"Nice budget hotel, awesome breakfast"
This is a nice budget hotel with an amazing made to order hot breakfast. My only complaint is that I could hear people in the next room clear as day (through the adjoining room door).Genuine Expedia guest review
For the money this was a fantastic deal. The room was nice enough, as nice as rooms I've paid double or more for. The bed was a bit on the firm side. I enjoyed walking to town and the park down the street. Everyone was courteous.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed at the Kachina Lodge for two nights. It's on the north edge of town and it's a little walk to downtown, but we didn't mind. The room was adequate. Neighbors were loud the first night, but they were gone the second. Breakfast was awesome! Our waitress, who was the only one working in the cafe besides the cook, was hilarious. They have a menu […] of about 10 items that they cook for you. Yes, cook! None of this buffet-style, make your own waffle stuff. I'm talking delicious Spanish omelettes, fluffy scrambled eggs, or greasy sausage links. Yum. We barely missed out, but during the summer months, they have Native American dancers from the nearby Pueblo every night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Staff was great and friendly. Breakfast selection was great, food was good. Room was ok bathroom bath tub was worn and needs replaced. There Was no hot water in am for bath/shower. Price was good for area. Good hotel with some updates would be a great hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
Nice hotel for the price in a great town. Probably would stay there againGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good for the price"
We got a pretty good deal on the room rates so can't complain to much. It is within walking and/or driving distance of everything we wanted to do. KTAO solar radio station had a great concert Friday night which was a short drive, walked to shops on Saturday, drove to Chimayo on Sunday. Great trip. Breakfast made to order was included and they were very […] accommodating to our special needs. The carpet in the room was a little gross but bathroom was clean. No remote to the TV but we were not in the room for very long. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"All and all, a lovely place to stay!"
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Kachina Lodge! My room was cute and clean, the staff very friendly, breakfast was tasty and freshly cooked, and the location! Wow! It was walking distance from the historical part of town which was just beautiful. I stayed there with my two cats who seemed to enjoy the room as well. There was also a very nice enclosed […] hot tub. I will definitely be staying there again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The room was not worth the cost."
Room was extremely hot. The heat could not be controlled with the thermostat. Had to run the air-conditioner!!! Free breakfast was not what we expected. The waitress was nice though. The coffee house was cold during breakfast...so breakfast was cold. It was odd that a lower room rate was offered immediately after initial booking was complete.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Best Lodging Value in Taos, NM!"
After using all the affordable and many pricier lodgers since 1980, I pronounce this Taos' Best lodging value today. A great way to experience the indoor/outdoor museum/gallery/exercise/sports/scenery experience of Old (1600's) Taos without breaking the bank! Solidly built, courteously operated, it features traditional architecture with Native American […] themes. Lots of original art in spacious public gallery area. Completing renovation to recover from Taos' loss of natural gas several winters ago. I have stayed there for 30 years without any noise problems. No alcohol sales or noisy lounge inappropriate to children. Convenient moderate walk to historic Taos Plaza square, past microbrewery nextdoor, galleries & cafes, Michael's Kitchen (grade-A), and pricey but unique historic Taos Inn (eat at Doc Martin's Restaurant and enjoy nightly live music). Location north of Plaza avoids most stoplights and and 2-lane traffic congestion for a straight shot north to Taos Pueblo, Casino, Ski Valley, Rio Grande Gorge, and Colorado. Various choices of free hot breakfast till 10:30 in the unique round Kiva Coffee Shop with massive authentic Totem Pole in center. Outdoor pool with year-round hot tub. "Friendly hotel close to the plaza"
The hotel staff was friendly and accommodating they let us check in early and check out late due to our work schedule. The rooms were clean but they were antiquated and the TV worked poorly. The breakfast was decent and the service was good. I wood stay here again but I would not pay much more than $50.00 a night.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was very outdated but pretty quiet. The surroundings were beautiful and they offer free breakfast.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is an older hotel and the rooms could use an update. The staff was courteous and the free breakfast was good. The room was good for the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A well-run, bargain older property"
A cute place, well kept, very nice people, and the included breakfast is legit cafe food (not a lame buffet carb-fest). There were some noises at times from the neighboring rooms and parking area; this is a function of the low price and let's face it, this is an older property. Bring ear plugs if you're a light sleeper, and it's great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not too clean"
The hallway smelled like smoke. At the bottom of the stairs, there was a bunch of trash and a bike in a pile. Only one person was working and she couldn't leave the front desk to get some towels for another guest. It too quite a while to check in because she was on the phone with another guest. "Conveniently located hotel is priced right"
The hotel is well located, within walking distance of the plaza, with plenty of parking. It also included a hot breakfast in the very reasonable room rate. The bed was comfortable and the bathrooms clean. That's the good news. The bad news: the rooms are incredibly dated, in major need of upgrades such as carpet and paint and better TVs. Our room was […] small, dark and even had a musty smell when we first entered. The staff was friendly, especially the waitress in the coffee shop. The reception area of the hotel was much nicer than the individual rooms, much more bright and attractively decorated. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was large, comfortable and quiet. The hot breakfast was in a connected full scale, public restaurant with a wide variety of selections. We were impressed with the art gallery connecting the lobby with the restaurant as well as the original large Remington statue outside the front entrance!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great deal for the money!"
Loved it, rooms are ok, great breakfast, great location, good service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Staff seem nice enough, but patrons who are "troubled" were allowed to openly discuss their personal issues in the breakfast area and making other guests uncomfortable. The waitress Rose made no to little attempt to curb the conversation; in fact she was an active participant. Oh well, I guess that's what you get for choosing the cheapest option on […] the list. I felt bad for the woman whose face was beat up. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Had a great stay......except......"
The Kachina is an older hotel; however, it is kept up pretty good. We did enjoy our stay with one exception. Our last night, we had next door neighbors....young girls that laughed and screamed and I had to pound on the wall to quiet them down. So walls are not very sound proofGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I have been going to the Kachina Lodge since the Seventies. It is a family tradition. One of the highlights of our family trip every year was breakfast and the Kachina Lodge Café. We would have sausage and hashbrowns covered in green chili. In fact we ate enough to allow us to skip lunch and ski all day. Currently there is one poor overwhelmed cook […] who probably just never cooked in his life. The waitress was panicked when facing eight customers. And her drama with everyone's drama. She shared the fact that the cook was brand-new with everyone at least twice. The burden of telling everyone of her suffering with a brand new cook prohibited her from refilling coffee. I ordered two pieces of sausage. It took 35 minutes. It seemed that a good bit of the hotel was vacant. That didn't stop them from putting a folksinger directly above my room. I heard every chord changes he struggled to play his guitar. Obviously this is no longer a best Western property. The lack of supervision is evident. I am sorry to see a family tradition die because of incompetent management. . Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Room smelled and was dirty. No hot water in shower. Sheets were clean but mattress and pillow will lumpy. Could not afford to book another room somewhere else. Internet needs a TON of upgrading, the room runs at dial-up speeds, went to the lobby and it wasn't much better. Don't plan on getting ANY work done if you need the internet. Breakfast is OK food-wise, but took just under an hour, very slow, so get there right when it opens if you need to get somewhere. Location is OK and shuttle for the ski area is […] convenient. "Cute Old Style Roadside America"
From the first moments, I knew I was in for a treat. Very charming place, looks right out of the 1960s golden age of travel and yet was up-to-date with what we expect from today's hotels. Breakfast was full and either in the Hopi Dining room or the cafe, decorated with super-kitsch native statues and plenty of vintage fixtures. I recommend this to anyone […] who does not want their time in Taos taken up by cookie-cutter hotels and boring chains but wants to see something special. As with any historic structures, there may be signs of age here and there. Again, if you want a plastic boring hotel with everything new but from Home Depot, stay somewhere else. If you want to chat with interesting people, have friendly staff, and take the bottomless coffee looking at Kachina paintings, stay here. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Wouldnt stay there again.receptionist was the best thing about our stay. She was bright, and friendly and very welcoming. rooms were decent size, and adequately clean, but smelled of cleanser and are dark and dreary. I stayed there with my two sons, and for us tv was important at night because we wanted to watch the Olympics, but the tv which had maybe […] 5 viable stations and was made circa 1990 had no sound on NBC which of course was airing the Olympics. "Nice but old hotel"
This is a nice hotel with old world character, it is well located near plaza, walking distance in good weather. The hotel is getting long in the tooth and could use major remodel. "NEVER stop here"
This was the dirtiest hotel we have ever encountered! Was checking in an hour past check in time , had to wait while they found a room that was "ready" and then the room was filthy , smelled horrible and a cat ran thru the door as we entered. OMG!! we turned right around and went back to the desk clerk and demanded a full refund .Genuine Expedia guest review

"Kachina Inn is way over the hill."
The bathroom ceilings have mildew on them. The bathroom window is broken and falls out if you try to crack it open a little. There is no bathroom fan. Breakfast is not a do it yourself like every other B&B. It is more like a restaurant and you are dependent on a single waitress. The food is fine if you want a chef to cook it for you. I eat oatmeal […] for breakfast and would prefer to make it my self like I do at every other B&B There is a hot tub but the jets do not work because the motor is burned out (they informed me), so it is equivalent to using the bathtub in your room. They apparently do not intend to fix the motor. The TV is an ancient analog TV, there were only a few channels, and the picture was very dark as in a tube ready to burn out. I was told that the hotel is for sale, the owner is in his mid 80s, an entire row of rooms is out of service because the heating system is not working., and the owner doesn't want to spend anymore money on it. The office, restaurant, meeting rooms, etc. are beautiful, however the guest room we were in is less than satisfactory. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A couple of good nites."
My wife and I stayed the weekend while doing some skiing. I remember when the Kachina was the premiere place to stay in Taos. It is showing its age and lack of amenities being no bar and no full time restaurant, but it's close enough to the plaza to take care of those. The room was big and clean, but needs updating. The base board heating was to hot […] even all the way down so we ran the ac on low to bring temp down. The bed was very comfortable and it was quiet so once I got the temp regulated we slept well. We didn't eat the free breakfast as we opted for Michaels kitchen just down the street. Overall, it was a good stay and the cost of the room was very reasonable. We will stay there again next ski weekend. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"24 hour getaway"
It was a ok for a quick trip for the price. Beds were comfortable, hot tub and room was nice, but walkways and stairs filthy and full of dead moths and flies. They were low on toilet paper, which was shocker took an hour to finda us a couple rolls. The worst part is no coffee pot in the room. Breakfast was good, although they were out of tortillas, […] bacon and green chili. Not sure if this is hotel is having financial issues but it sure felt like it. Probably won't go back. "Great place to stay for the price"
Got a room here last minute at a really great price. The room was outdated but very clean and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom door would jam up a bit but not a deal breaker.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I should have requested my money back after the 1st night. When checking in clerk told us room we were checked into had an odor.. So we go check it out and it smelled like moth balls, which wasn’t to horrible, but after being in the room for the night it got worse and was mixed with another weird smell I couldn’t identify, also the towels smelled like […] dirt. So in the morning I requested another room. A different clerk gave me keys to another room. I went to move our stuff and that room was worse than the 1st one. Beds were a mess, beer bottles overflowing in the trash cans and the smell of smoke. Went back to front desk and clerk said it was weird cause no one was checked into that room, but apparenlty they have break-ins is what she said. So here we go to a 3rd room.. was better than the 1st two, but rooms are very outdated, furnature is worn out with holes, carpet old and dirty, walls are paper thin. Would not stay here again! With the price they charge they should update their rooms. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
