"Great lodge on a great lake…"
I highly recommend Moraine Lake Lodge for its accommodations and proximity to the lake. My wife and I went here for our honeymoon and thoroughly enjoyed the lodge and its surroundings. Of the two lakes (Louise & Moraine), we were grateful we stayed at Moraine Lake Lodge as its lake and surrounding mountains and its hiking trails were more appealing and less touristy.

"Ideal alternative to Lake Louise accommodations"
My wife and I can't speak highly enough about the Moraine Lake Lodge. The view of Moraine Lake from our cabin was outstanding. Services including meals, guided hikes, and evening speakers also distinguished this lodge. The road leading up to the lodge did become quite crowded with tourists visiting Moraine Lake or using the hiking trails that start at the lodge. That should be expected given the beauty of the area. And compared to Fairmount Lake Louise, the crowds were lighter. I would recommend the Moraine Lake Lodge for those visiting the Lake Louise area.

"Most beautiful lake setting in all of Banff"
For a special anniversary, my husband and I stayed for 3 nights in a Deluxe King Cabin overlooking the breathtaking turquoise lake. While there are hikers along the lake trail most of the day, from 9 in the morning until 7 pm at night, it was mostly a quiet, serene setting. Our cabin was on the end, closest to the hiking trailhead entrance, away from the canoe dock, which can be noisy between the operating hours of 10 am- 5 pm. We ate all of our breakfasts and dinners in the Lodge dining room and the food and attentive service was excellent. We hiked each day with a guide (free for guests) and I highly recommend the experience. The hikes were not too difficult, and the information shared by the guide really added to the experience. My favorite photo from our 12 days in Banff, Jasper, and Lake Louise is from the upper perch above Moraine Lake, which is easily hiked up to from the parking lot.

"perfect"
We went to Moraine Lake Lodge on the strong recommendation of a friend and we are so glad that we did. It was absolutely perfect for us. It felt incredibly special and private (so different from the big hotels at Lake Louise and Banff) and the service was wonderful. We enjoyed breakfast and went canoeing - we were the only ones on the lake! This does not feel like stuffy or super glamorous luxury, but a privilege to stay in such a an incredible location.

"Romantic Gem - Almost"
We chose this hotel abpve the Fair, not as wanted a smaller and quieter out of the way romantic destination but it came with a few disappointing surprises. Location idyllic when the weather is kind to you. We were in a romantic cabin with real wood fire but the romance was decreased by us not realising that we had a public footpath outside the lodge as this is a major tourist destination with anything up to 10 coaches in car park by the morning. This lack of privacy, including sharing breakfast with crop ins from tours really lessened the enjoyment for us. In addition the food in the restaurant was significantly overpriced for the lack of quality delivered. We chose to change to eating at the Fairmont for 2 nights despite the hours return trip there. We had also hoped to try canoes on the lake and a guided walking tour but discovered that canoes so not get used in the rain and the tours do not happen in the week! This was by far the most expensive hotel in our holiday and did not deliver value for money and the weather which was truly horrific did not enhance the experience.

"Great stay!"
The staff at the hotel were great. Very friendly & helpful with any request. We were even given a walking tour of the hotel & the facilities at check-in. Breakfast, rental of the canoes & firewood for the fireplaces were all included at no extra charge. Of course the view is just spectacular especially after the day crowds have headed home. We had a great time & would highly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in the area especially if you are planning to do any of the hikes in the area.

"Stunning location"
The best part of this hotel is its situation overlooking the stunning Moraine Lake. Any niggles are mostly outweighed by this. It is not a cheap hotel and we did find the rooms small. The log burner was lovely but there was only one armchair in the room (not enough space for two). And despite their website saying that they cannot accommodate children under 8 years this is not the case and for both nights of our stay there was a 12/18 month old baby who did not provide us with a peaceful dinner and we left having eaten only a quick main course and went back to our room wine with us. I did check with a receptionist on check out and she quite abruptly informed me that they cannot recommend it to children under 8 years. So their website in this matter is incorrect. The restaurant was of a fine dining price range and probably overpriced. As I say you go for the lake but be careful what time of year you choose to visit as when we went (early June) quite a few trails were still shut, and our complimentary canoes were not in use yet, so if you're heavily into lots of hiking you might need to wait.

Don't like the layout of the lodge, difficult and tight passageways from floors where rooms are located to dining area. Dining room has great potential. Needs attention...tablecloths, better furniture, however the staff were tremendous. Grounds around building are tatty and need some attention.

"It's all about the location, not the accommodation."
02/04/16 DizzyBlondeSydney Sydney
Staying at Moraine Lake Lodge is all about access to the lake at the quieter times of day and being able to participate in walks through the amazing scenery. We stayed in the Wenkchemna Wing in a room which had views over the lake from a small balcony. For the price of the room, (CA$550+ per night) the room was small and a bit tired looking. Once you put your suitcases in the room there is hardly any room to move around. It had a nice log fire, but was missing key items which I would have expected from accommodation labelled as luxury such as comfy chairs to sit in front of the fire and a mini-bar/fridge. Breakfast at the lodge is plentiful and there were different options each day. We ate in the restaurant one evening and the food was good, but overpriced. Service was attentive. The lodge also serves afternoon tea in the library in the afternoon, but this is quite disappointing as it is leftover pastries from breakfast. I am giving the lodge a rating of Very Good - the lake is very good, the accommodation is average.

Our lodge looked over lake moraine the view was breath taking. The room had a log fire a nice touch and a balcony. Dinner in the restaurant was first class. Canoeing on the lake was just serile. The only downside was it was such a popular place we had to queue to get back to our hotel after a day out to lake louise. As it was so popular for visitors to come to for the day and the hotel was not on a through road. But not a problem really. I would definetly go again. Absolutely my favourite place.

Need to book for dinner each night in the restaurant. The meas were very nice and the service brilliant. Breakfast had a good variety of food, hot and cold. Canoeing and other activities are included in the price of accommodation. The canoeing is highly recommended on the lake. Walking tracks offer great views. A very popular location for day visitors and tourist buses. Good information nights in the lodge lounge.

"Paying for the location"
11/23/15 zoltrix56 Edmonton, Canada
Stayed here in a deluxe twin cabin. The cabin is on the smaller side and I would have expected a larger one for the price. But what you're paying for really is the location and lots of people are willing to pay for that as rooms are booked up several months in advance. It was quite chilly and rainy when we were there and the cabin had a fireplace with plenty of wood but very little kindling available to help start the fire. There was no WiFi available which should certainly be standard at this price point in 2015. Yes, I'm aware that the idea is to explore outdoors but when it is cold and rainy like it was when I was there, having WiFi would have been nice especially since there was no TV. There was a complimentary bottle of wine to make due however. Service was adequate but not overly attentive. There is a designated parking lot for hotel guests but several people rather inconsiderately took up 2 spaces for 1 vehicle which made parking scarce. Hotel staff should think about registering license plates of the guests and making sure that they park properly or assign a spot. Compared to the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise I would choose that over Moraine Lake Lodge in a heartbeat for more luxurious accommodations in an equally spectacular setting.

Stayed 4 nights in the main building at the end of September. Really rustic and comfortable. Open fires in all the public rooms. Restaurant excellent. The naturalist guide is excellent. Great knowledge. We saw a grisly bear right by the hotel and a porcupine out at Lake Agnes and many others. The walk in the larches is beautiful. All the staff were very enthusiastic and helpful. It's true that it's a bit expensive but as the hotel is only open for a few months each year due to the weather conditions we felt it was reasonably priced to cover all the running costs.

"Lovely Spot, Terrific Restaurant"
10/22/15 hoyasaxa3233 Silver Spring, Maryland
We had a lake-view cabin, which wasn't large (twin beds) but did have a nice sunken sitting area with a couch, chair, full window, and a porch. Negative was that this row of cabins overlooks the boat dock and a path that gets very crowded and noisy with day bus visitors. The positives outweighed this, however. Being right on Moraine Lake was an exceptional treat, it stayed blue even in the rain! The walking paths offered gorgeous views, and the restaurant was first rate. That's important, because going out for dinner would have been difficult given the remoteness of the Lodge. Note, though, that the cafe fare was 7-ll pre-made, wish the restaurant kitchen had also been in charge there! Still, if going to Moraine Lake or Lake Louise, this is the one, we're super glad to have been there.

"Overpriced accommodations "
10/20/15 tdunmir
A bit overpriced. Had just spent two nights in the fairmont banff springs, no comparison on bang for buck the fairmont wins easily. They're def exploiting the unique situation. But having said that, my wife and I still enjoyed our stay very much. We were in the honeymoon suite with a minimal view of the lake, and a wonderful view of the hoards of people that gathered right below our balcony. A lovely sound of non stop noise from 0800 till 5pm. And a wonderful smell of cigarette smoke as the people gathering there were usually smokers. Being we stayed in the honeymoon suite "their premium suite" we didn't feel very romantic. And since it rained the three nights we were there we did spend some time in our room during the day. Very unpleasant experience. And for some strange reason there was a constant noise of people moving furniture from about 9pm till past 11pm. Again, not what you expect at 700$cad+ a night. The staff were very kind and helpful and prompt. My est price was lower than what I was charged at checkout, that's a first for me. They said it was due to census of guests blah blah blah. Again strike against money aspect. We're unable to use canoes as it rained all three nights we were there. Room was very nice, fireplace very nice, bed comfortable. Bathroom clean. And the parking was a wonderful advantage as we stayed in sept and the crowds were still very much present and parking a premium for non hotel guests. Aside from the cost and ridiculousness of price fluctuation it was a great stay. My wife and I were in banff and jasper 11 days and the dinner at the rest and the breakfast every morning were the best we had. Five stars for everything except price, two stars for that. Would recommend hotel. Would not return to hotel. Would recommend dinner. Would return for dinner.

"So Amazing!!"

We were here for our ten year wedding anniversary and it was so wonderful! The Lodge was so cozy and welcoming, we arrived on a cool windy day and there was a fire going in the lobby as you walk in and the staff was so nice and considerate. When we arrived at our room there was a bottle of champagne waiting for us and a lovely note congratulating us on our anniversary. The room was comfortable and clean with warm comforters and a wonderful balcony we could sit and see the lake from. They serve tea in the afternoon, it's complimentary to the guests, we could enjoy it in the library or we ended up taking it back to our room to enjoy each others company on the balcony. We enjoyed a lovely dinner in the dining room that evening, the food was wonderful along with the staff. We could have taken a complimentary boat ride had the weather been better. Breakfast the next morning was included in our stay, it was a really nice spread that the hotel put out. We were only staying one night and it was worth it. I would go back if I could in a heartbeat!

"Exclusive experience and access to Moraine Lake"
10/12/15 Singap0reTraveller Singapore
We had a wonderful 2 night stay at the Moraine Lake Lodge. We booked a cabin (Cabin 2) which came with a nice fireplace. The cabin was really cosy and comfortable, but the toilet was a bit small. The breakfast was nice and we had dinner at the same restaurant for both nights. Service was excellent and food was good, although pricey. We participated in a complimentary hike to Larch Valley with a guide, Lindsey, and she was excellent! Full of energy and enthusiasm! The best thing about the lodge is of course the location. Access to the Moraine Lake in the early morning and evening when it is much less crowded is a luxury, which does come with a price. Wifi is patchy at best, which can be a nice experience.

"View was great"
10/06/15 Jennifer H Winnipeg, Canada
Staying at this lodge in one of the cabins was on our bucket list. This summer we were able to stay here for a night. It was wonderful to be able to drive in and be able to have a place to park. This never happens when you just come to visit Moraine Lake! The hostess was very informative and she drove us in a golf cart to our cabin. It was a cute cabin. There was wine and champagne waiting for us. It would have been nice but we don't drink. I wish there was an alternative. Our view of the turquoise lake was wonderful. It was great to curl up in a blanket, by the fire place and stare out the window. No tv here. Loved the bathroom amenities. I will say that the room was incredibly over priced. This is the most we have spent for a room, ever. There were dead flies and moths on the floor. The caulking in the tub was very mouldy. If we had of stayed in this hotel anywhere other than at Moraine Lake, no one would have paid that kind of price. We did it. It is off our bucket list. We will save our money and try somewhere else next time.
