"Great lodge on a great lake…"
I highly recommend Moraine Lake Lodge for its accommodations and proximity to the lake. My wife and I went here for our honeymoon and thoroughly enjoyed the lodge and its surroundings. Of the two lakes (Louise & Moraine), we were grateful we stayed at Moraine Lake Lodge as its lake and surrounding mountains and its hiking trails were more appealing and less touristy.

"Ideal alternative to Lake Louise accommodations"
My wife and I can't speak highly enough about the Moraine Lake Lodge. The view of Moraine Lake from our cabin was outstanding. Services including meals, guided hikes, and evening speakers also distinguished this lodge. The road leading up to the lodge did become quite crowded with tourists visiting Moraine Lake or using the hiking trails that start at the lodge. That should be expected given the beauty of the area. And compared to Fairmount Lake Louise, the crowds were lighter. I would recommend the Moraine Lake Lodge for those visiting the Lake Louise area.

"Most beautiful lake setting in all of Banff"
For a special anniversary, my husband and I stayed for 3 nights in a Deluxe King Cabin overlooking the breathtaking turquoise lake. While there are hikers along the lake trail most of the day, from 9 in the morning until 7 pm at night, it was mostly a quiet, serene setting. Our cabin was on the end, closest to the hiking trailhead entrance, away from the canoe dock, which can be noisy between the operating hours of 10 am- 5 pm. We ate all of our breakfasts and dinners in the Lodge dining room and the food and attentive service was excellent. We hiked each day with a guide (free for guests) and I highly recommend the experience. The hikes were not too difficult, and the information shared by the guide really added to the experience. My favorite photo from our 12 days in Banff, Jasper, and Lake Louise is from the upper perch above Moraine Lake, which is easily hiked up to from the parking lot.

"perfect"
We went to Moraine Lake Lodge on the strong recommendation of a friend and we are so glad that we did. It was absolutely perfect for us. It felt incredibly special and private (so different from the big hotels at Lake Louise and Banff) and the service was wonderful. We enjoyed breakfast and went canoeing - we were the only ones on the lake! This does not feel like stuffy or super glamorous luxury, but a privilege to stay in such a an incredible location.

"Romantic Gem - Almost"
We chose this hotel abpve the Fair, not as wanted a smaller and quieter out of the way romantic destination but it came with a few disappointing surprises. Location idyllic when the weather is kind to you. We were in a romantic cabin with real wood fire but the romance was decreased by us not realising that we had a public footpath outside the lodge as this is a major tourist destination with anything up to 10 coaches in car park by the morning. This lack of privacy, including sharing breakfast with crop ins from tours really lessened the enjoyment for us. In addition the food in the restaurant was significantly overpriced for the lack of quality delivered. We chose to change to eating at the Fairmont for 2 nights despite the hours return trip there. We had also hoped to try canoes on the lake and a guided walking tour but discovered that canoes so not get used in the rain and the tours do not happen in the week! This was by far the most expensive hotel in our holiday and did not deliver value for money and the weather which was truly horrific did not enhance the experience.

"Great stay!"
The staff at the hotel were great. Very friendly & helpful with any request. We were even given a walking tour of the hotel & the facilities at check-in. Breakfast, rental of the canoes & firewood for the fireplaces were all included at no extra charge. Of course the view is just spectacular especially after the day crowds have headed home. We had a great time & would highly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in the area especially if you are planning to do any of the hikes in the area.

"Stunning location"
The best part of this hotel is its situation overlooking the stunning Moraine Lake. Any niggles are mostly outweighed by this. It is not a cheap hotel and we did find the rooms small. The log burner was lovely but there was only one armchair in the room (not enough space for two). And despite their website saying that they cannot accommodate children under 8 years this is not the case and for both nights of our stay there was a 12/18 month old baby who did not provide us with a peaceful dinner and we left having eaten only a quick main course and went back to our room wine with us. I did check with a receptionist on check out and she quite abruptly informed me that they cannot recommend it to children under 8 years. So their website in this matter is incorrect. The restaurant was of a fine dining price range and probably overpriced. As I say you go for the lake but be careful what time of year you choose to visit as when we went (early June) quite a few trails were still shut, and our complimentary canoes were not in use yet, so if you're heavily into lots of hiking you might need to wait.

Don't like the layout of the lodge, difficult and tight passageways from floors where rooms are located to dining area. Dining room has great potential. Needs attention...tablecloths, better furniture, however the staff were tremendous. Grounds around building are tatty and need some attention.

"Great location and great service."
The hotel is in a great location, the staff were friendly and efficient. Our room was well presented with great character and the fireplace laid to be lit. The restaurant had great views and even nicer meals (I had a tasting plate of smoked meats - delicious). The hotel had an after dinner presentation which was informative and friendly. I regret we were only there one night.

This hotel (and locale) is one of those places where you just have to return. We've already told all our friends about it. It is only open about 3-4 months a year due to snowfall, but the location right at Lake Moraine is unsurpassed. Here is what we loved about this place: the balcony overlooking Moraine Lake; the tremendous breakfast (included); the canoes (no charge to hotel guests and you can use as long as you like; non-guests pay $55 CAD per hour); the guided nature walk; the evening naturalist presentation; the evening tea/snack time. Don't miss this one.

"A Perfect Weekend"
08/25/15 Bettysgirl2015 Calgary, Canada
We stayed in Cabin 13 at Moraine Lake Lodge to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary, the weekend of August 22-24, 2015. The multi-level cabin was cosy and comfortable with a fireplace all prepared to light, and with ample seating placed around it. We had a beautiful view of the lake and our balcony beckoned us to sit awhile and enjoy the scenery. The room had everything you could possibly need to assure a comfortable and relaxing stay- robes, slippers, a variety of glassware, corkscrew, coasters, reading material, very good quality bath items, hair dryer, a generous quantity of towels and extra wood for the fireplace at the door. The complimentary bottle of champagne for our anniversary was a lovely surprise in addition to the complimentary bottle of wine that was awaiting us in the bar/armoire. The bathroom was clean and well stocked daily. I have to say, too, that the shower had really good hot water with a strong spray to the shower head , and also, the tap water was especially refreshing to drink...clear and cold, really really good mountain well water! We even were given a ride to our cabin in a golf cart fitted with a luggage compartment which made our check-in so effortless and pleasant. The area is spectacular... we hiked and canoed and ate delicious meals in the restaurant. We found everyone to be pleasant and each staff member encountered took the time to chat with a smile. We never felt rushed or neglected in any way. Being guests at the lodge, we got priority at the dock for a canoe, and could be out on the lake as long as we wished. The staff, accommodation and beautiful scenery at Moraine Lake Lodge definitely made this a very special weekend for us. It was worth every penny!

A beautiful setting for a very special place to stay. The views are amazing! We had a lovely time here. The Lodge has a stylish decor, combining a clean modern feel with winter-themed antiques. Restaurant was smart with excellent food. Breakfast, afternoon tea and canoe rental are included in the price. Not cheap, but for a special experience it is worth it. There are good hikes in the area for all levels of fitness. The only drawback - the crowds! The coaches pile in and there are day trippers from dawn to dusk.

"One of the most beautiful places on earth"

We felt very lucky to spend one night here...still a splurge, and I'm already wishing we could return! Moraine Lake Lodge is unassuming and comfortable with a friendly staff, and offers little perks to its guests that make it worth every penny. You don't have to worry about finding parking at the lake, which can be a major hassle in the summer. (The road had been closed down due to too many visitors when we arrived, but since we were guests at the lodge, we were able to continue down the road and park in their separate parking area.) We stayed in one of the lowest-priced rooms in the lodge itself, but it still had a balcony and a great view of the lake. Not the biggest room in the world, but who really wants to stay in their room in this beautiful place? Along with worry-free parking for its guests, the lodge offers complimentary snacks in the late afternoon, a naturalist talk most nights (Joel was there for our evening talk -- he did a great job and it was interesting for adults and kids alike-- our 10-year-old son loved it), guided hikes each morning, and free canoe rentals. We were able to rent a canoe before the hordes of tourists came in the morning and for a while, we were the only ones out on the magnificent lake. It can seem crowded with all the buses and tourists mingling about, but the lodge itself felt very peaceful. Dinner at the restaurant was also wonderful. Many excellent hikes leave right from the lake parking lot, and it is so nice to get up early and be right there. Our experience at breakfast (also complimentary for guests) was okay -- not great -- but we were anxious to get outside and did not care to linger over a long meal. My husband originally thought it was too much money to spend for one night, but 15 minutes after we arrived, he was saying he wished we had booked for a week. We'd go back tomorrow if we could!

"Great Lodge in an Amazing Location"
08/19/15 Tim A Iowa City, Iowa
My wife and I recently spent 2 nights at Moraine Lake Lodge. We have stayed a number of times before. The Lodge is wonderful. Our room was on the second floor of the Lodge. The view from our patio was incredible. The room itself was very comfortable and well furnished. The bathroom was excellent, with a very large bath tub. We enjoyed the restaurant both nights and the breakfast each morning. There are a number of hikes available nearby, from very easy to more challenging. By staying in the Lodge, we were able to spend a lot of time taking in the scenery, particularly how the lake changes at different times of the day. It was also nice to be there after the many daily visitors left and it felt like we had the lake to ourselves. To a person, the Lodge staff were excellent. All were very friendly and helpful. General Manager Michael Clark deserves a lot of credit for a top-notch operation.

"Family Visit in the gorgeous Canadian Rockies"
08/17/15 Carl N Farmington, Connecticut
On this, our family's first visit to the Canadian Rockies, we found exactly what we were looking for at Moraine Lake Lodge. This fully, self sufficient lodge allowed us to enjoy the lake, several surrounding hiking trails while also providing us access to the rest of the Lake Louise - Banff region. The staff was exceptional and the food some of the best we had in years. We would (and will) return in an instant. Thanks

"Disappointing"
08/14/15 hannyb83 London
We came to Moraine Lake Lodge with high expectations - at $500 (Canadian) per night, it was one of the the most expensive of the hotels we stayed in during our 2 week honeymoon. The view from our room was undoubtedly breathtaking and the accommodation was comfy with a lovely library area and pretty restaurant. The food in the restaurant was also good- though it should be at over $200 for a meal for 2. The service, however, severely let this place down- it was drastically different from our great experiences everywhere else we stayed and ate in Canada. Though certain individuals were polite and helpful (Matthew- our server at dinner was excellent) too many members of staff were off hand to the point of rudeness and seemed more interested in conversing with one another than serving guests- leaving us waiting 25 mins for a table we had pre-booked for dinner when several were available, chatting to one another and carrying out jobs best left to quieter periods while customers queued and waited to be served in the cafe at lunch and asking us to wait for our bread as the dishwasher was still running so there were no plates available! Service at breakfast was also lacklustre and staff stood chatting loudly while laying tables while we waited for milk and coffee etc. Toiletries were not replaced despite the fact we stayed 2 nights and had used up some items and boxes of cleaning equipment, empty garbage bags and spare linens were left lying in the hallways long after the rooms had been cleaned- the attached photo was taken at 2:30 pm. Finally, the staff at the Kayak rental shed were also brusque with customers which marred the experience of kayaking on the beautiful lake. All in all, Moraine Lake Lodge is a beautiful hotel in a spectacular location but some serious staff training is in order if service is to live up to the cost of this accommodation. We will come back to this area again but we'll stay somewhere else next time.

An excelent spot - near the lake. The lodges are nice, you feel at home. There is missing room for your suitcases, but you forget that, when you enjoying the view or enjoying the complementary bottle of red wine on the small balcony overlooking the lake. We also had an unfortunate experience in the restaurant, but the understaffed personal did their best to male up for it. The food is of high quallity. We dined twice in the restaurant. The second night all was perfect. To visit this place is to find your inner peace. Forget internet and mobile phones - just enjoy

"Paying a lot just for the view"
08/12/15 ErinEileen2015 Toronto, Canada
We stayed on our honeymoon at the end of a big trip thinking we would splurge just this once for two nights. It is very pricey compared to other locations and you really are paying just for the location. The room we had was okay, but very little in it. There was no fridge to keep food in, the wood stove was electric and we could not use our phones nor was there one In the rooms. They had wireless but it barely worked (not a necessity for everyone but you are paying out the nose for the rooms). If it wasn't for the view we would have been pretty upset. You can stay in Canmore in a full apartment for less than half the price of one small room there. It is a great place to enjoy the nature, the lake is spectacular and in my view better than Lake Louise, canoeing was great and hiking around. The staff are friendly and the restaurant was very nice. I'd do it again for a honeymoon... but perhaps just drive up for the day otherwise.
