"Ideal alternative to Lake Louise accommodations"
My wife and I can't speak highly enough about the Moraine Lake Lodge. The view of Moraine Lake from our cabin was outstanding. Services including meals, guided hikes, and evening speakers also distinguished this lodge. The road leading up to the lodge did become quite crowded with tourists visiting Moraine Lake or using the hiking trails that start […] at the lodge. That should be expected given the beauty of the area. And compared to Fairmount Lake Louise, the crowds were lighter. I would recommend the Moraine Lake Lodge for those visiting the Lake Louise area. "Most beautiful lake setting in all of Banff"
For a special anniversary, my husband and I stayed for 3 nights in a Deluxe King Cabin overlooking the breathtaking turquoise lake. While there are hikers along the lake trail most of the day, from 9 in the morning until 7 pm at night, it was mostly a quiet, serene setting. Our cabin was on the end, closest to the hiking trailhead entrance, away from […] the canoe dock, which can be noisy between the operating hours of 10 am- 5 pm. We ate all of our breakfasts and dinners in the Lodge dining room and the food and attentive service was excellent. We hiked each day with a guide (free for guests) and I highly recommend the experience. The hikes were not too difficult, and the information shared by the guide really added to the experience. My favorite photo from our 12 days in Banff, Jasper, and Lake Louise is from the upper perch above Moraine Lake, which is easily hiked up to from the parking lot. "Excellent location small room"
Super friendly staff, great to have activities included as well as breakfast! Room was a little small with, very little storage for bags, etc. Overall a very pleasant stay!Genuine Expedia guest review
We went to Moraine Lake Lodge on the strong recommendation of a friend and we are so glad that we did. It was absolutely perfect for us. It felt incredibly special and private (so different from the big hotels at Lake Louise and Banff) and the service was wonderful. We enjoyed breakfast and went canoeing - we were the only ones on the lake! This does […] not feel like stuffy or super glamorous luxury, but a privilege to stay in such a an incredible location. Stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon and immediately, we were impressed as we got a personal tour of the lodge and facilities. We truly felt like privileged guests. There were a lot of great perks to staying at the Moraine Lake Lodge - a great breakfast in the morning, free access to the canoes, coffee/tea in the afternoon, discounts in the shop/cafe, […] and the amazing scenery. It was very, very expensive though and despite how much I loved it, it really makes me second-guess if I would go back. If you can afford it, book it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We just stayed at the Moraine Lake Lodge with another couple. What a beautiful location and wonderful stay. The closest town is Lake Louise - but it was worth the drive when we wanted to go to town. Our cabins were beautiful with wonderful views of the lake. There is no cell service nor TV"s so if that's not to your liking - this hotel won't be. But […] we loved every minute even with our busy lives. There were three grizzly bears (mom and her two cubs) who "visited the property - but we never were at risk and it was a sight to behold. We got some great pictures! The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We never were bothered by the "crowds" since Lake Louise and the Chateau are much more traffic ridden. Our hike to consolation lake was terrific. The beds were very comfortable - the cabins are small but we have to say - it was our favorite hotel in our l0 days of travel through the Canadian Rockies. "Romantic Gem - Almost"
We chose this hotel abpve the Fair, not as wanted a smaller and quieter out of the way romantic destination but it came with a few disappointing surprises. Location idyllic when the weather is kind to you. We were in a romantic cabin with real wood fire but the romance was decreased by us not realising that we had a public footpath outside the lodge […] as this is a major tourist destination with anything up to 10 coaches in car park by the morning. This lack of privacy, including sharing breakfast with crop ins from tours really lessened the enjoyment for us. In addition the food in the restaurant was significantly overpriced for the lack of quality delivered. We chose to change to eating at the Fairmont for 2 nights despite the hours return trip there. We had also hoped to try canoes on the lake and a guided walking tour but discovered that canoes so not get used in the rain and the tours do not happen in the week! This was by far the most expensive hotel in our holiday and did not deliver value for money and the weather which was truly horrific did not enhance the experience. The best part of this hotel is its situation overlooking the stunning Moraine Lake. Any niggles are mostly outweighed by this. It is not a cheap hotel and we did find the rooms small. The log burner was lovely but there was only one armchair in the room (not enough space for two). And despite their website saying that they cannot accommodate children […] under 8 years this is not the case and for both nights of our stay there was a 12/18 month old baby who did not provide us with a peaceful dinner and we left having eaten only a quick main course and went back to our room wine with us. I did check with a receptionist on check out and she quite abruptly informed me that they cannot recommend it to children under 8 years. So their website in this matter is incorrect. The restaurant was of a fine dining price range and probably overpriced. As I say you go for the lake but be careful what time of year you choose to visit as when we went (early June) quite a few trails were still shut, and our complimentary canoes were not in use yet, so if you're heavily into lots of hiking you might need to wait. Don't like the layout of the lodge, difficult and tight passageways from floors where rooms are located to dining area. Dining room has great potential. Needs attention...tablecloths, better furniture, however the staff were tremendous. Grounds around building are tatty and need some attention.Genuine Expedia guest review

The hotel is in a great location, the staff were friendly and efficient. Our room was well presented with great character and the fireplace laid to be lit. This resort is the best experience in Canada. It is situated 9 Kms ouyside Lake Louise and located on Lake Moraine. The cabuns are roomy, warm and have views to die for. The restaurant is fine dining with very reasonable prices. No TV means a quiet wander along the lake side and relaxation.
Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Genuine Expedia guest review

"Wow what a place"

We decided to treat ourselves to 3 nights at Moraine Lake Lodge as part of our dream holiday to Canada and we are so glad we did. Yes it is expensive but did include breakfast, guided walks and canoe hire. The area is stunning and we had perfect weather when we were there so saw the lake at its best. All of the staff we encountered were very friendly and knowledgeable. No need for a TV when there is such great scenery around. We had log fires on every night and woke up to the beauty of the mountains and lake .

This lovely facility is directly on Moraine Lake. The rooms are meticulously styled in "lodge chic". Loved the real wood fireplace which was stocked with wood and ready to light with the matches provided. The bathrooms are adorable from the 3-dimensional wildlife tiles to the bear light sconces. The staff is wonderful and the restaurant was top quality. I would highly recommend this hotel.
"Majestic views and magical dining-"
09/13/14 ksimone852 Porter Corners, New York
We expected the size of the king cabin to match the internet picture but alas, it is much smaller.. we were surprised at how cramped we felt in the cabin. Beware internet pictures! However, the view is unsurpassed and if you dine at the lodge you are in for a treat. Some of the finest food- well prepared and so nicely presented that only after 1 glass of wine, my husband proclaimed his dinner the best he ever had! Well! It did not disappoint the nights we ate there and would recommend you eat here even if you don't sleep at the lodge or cabins. Expect hundreds of tourists and even waiting in a car line to access the lodge since tour buses and tourists flock to Lake Moraine for the trails and views. At times the roads are closed to allow for traffic flow and you may wait to get back to your room. The views are far more dramatic than Lake Louise and perhaps the best among most lodges in this area. If you have patience, and can zen through the gift shop and excited crowds taking to the trails and sights... stay here for at least a night or two. We encountered a snooty front desk young lady who did not offer to help me gain internet access since I did not have my wifi code with me... I was instructed to return to my room and get the code when she could have easily given me another piece of paper with the instructions but... I overlooked that and felt it was just due to youth... Nonetheless, I found that very uncaring and inappropriate. We moved on to the sister site Cathedral Mountain Lodge after 3 nights. Moraine Lake Lodge is a nice place to stay, an excellent place to have dinner (with wine), and the views are magnificent! Value does not match price unless you are paying for the view as the King Cabin is cramped. The front desk staff could be more personable and not so aloof. Will try Emerald Lodge next trip. By the way, our waitstaff for dinner, Jenny was absolutely wonderful. Her warmth and professionalism was appreciated! Do reserve here, take the kindling for your cabin fire from anywhere you can find it and read a great book! It is paradise .
"Magical Mountains and Rustic Charm"
09/12/14 Umer A Shreveport, Louisiana
Very rustic cabins with beautiful fireplace and view of lake. Loved the room. Very cozy, and nice for couples. The price was hefty, but the experience was definitely above average. Staff were friendly, mainly Canadian and Australian young people there for the summer. The library room is very cozy as well, and afternoon tea was a good experience. They do hikes Wednesday to Sundays. We were unable to join the day we were there because it was "full." When I asked to join one the following day after having checked out, I got a few askance glances from the staff, so I just dropped the idea. The hikes up in Moraine Lake are trickily because the meaningful ones require four or more people, which I found out the hard way was not so easy to find, as most of the touristy types just wanted to go on the top of the rock pile and walk around the lake (both of which are nice but not real hikes). The free breakfast in the morning is of high quality and exceeded expectations. Overall, this hotel lodge experience was our most enjoyable stay, and we would love to stay there again someday.
"Lovely View; Comfy; but lots of tourists at the Lake"
09/12/14 MikefromKentucky Kentucky
We stayed two nights here and two at Emerald Lake in nearby BC. We liked both places. Emerald had a king bed and a larger room; Moraine a Queen. Both had fireplaces in the room. We opened the window a bit at Moraine to let out some of the smoke odor from the fireplace. Odor wasn't bad but I'm sensitive to smoke and smokey odors. Emerald is more secluded and has a wonderful trail around the gorgeous lake (spruce forest on one side; rainforest on the other). Moraine's lake trail goes only along one side. It has steeper trails but you needed four people to hike them because of grizzlies. Moraine is right up the mountain from Lake Louise. It has a spectacular setting, but there are a lot of tourists and cars park along the mountain road for quite a distance. Moraine is only open June 1-Oct 1 since the road is snowbound in winter. Of the two lodges, Emerald was somewhat more comfortable and certainly more secluded. But we could hear the footsteps of the people above us at Emerald. And Moraine had better food. And we enjoyed the presentation on "bird brains" by a local (I think his name was Joel) who spoke at Moraine. Moraine also provides guided hikes. Both places are great. Also, see Bow Lake, just up the icefileds parkway, when you're up there. This area may be the most spectacular in North America. Best way to get there is to fly to Calgary (2.5 hrs away via good hwy.)
"Stunning location, basic lodge"
Stayed here in July 2014. Fantastic location. Amazingly beautiful scenery and the lake is absolutely beautiful. However the lodge rooms were very small and basic, but clean and comfortable. Restaurant offered little choice and was very expensive. No where else around to eat so I think they took full advantage of this by charging a lot of money for meals.

Of course the main reason for staying at this hotel is because of its location on the lake. The setting is truly stunning. We enjoyed being able to see the lake with ease at various times and light. We stayed in a cabin which are grouped in sets of two attached to each other on a hillside overlooking the lake, and near the main lodge. The cabin was cozy with a rustic feel and look. We loved the sunken living area with a large window, built-in couch looking out to the lake, and of course a wood burning fireplace. The overall space, however, was a little tight including a smallish bathroom and balcony. In some ways that made it seem more special and romantic, but more space would have been appreciated. The only problem with the room was that even though the staff sets up the fireplace each day for you, we could only get a decent fire going one of three nights. A staff member told us that the current wood available to the hotel was too “hard” and probably required more paper to really get it going. We had breakfast each morning in the main dining room which is included in the room price. A good sampling of cold items was available, as well as two hot items each day. The décor was simple and nice with a large greenhouse window to bring in light and views. We also had one dinner which was very good. In the late afternoon complementary coffee and tea is served in a lounge room along with left over pastries from breakfast, although tasty, something new like a simple cookie would have been nice. We also took advantage of free use of the canoes one morning and enjoyed the lake by ourselves. As other have mentioned it can get pretty busy at the lake, and hotel guests have a half hour head start to use the canoes. Overall, the hotel is smartly designed to provide guests with space from the tourists that visit. We were also always able to get internet in our cabin, but if you have problems, there is also a computer in the lounge room for your use. The staff at the hotel is very young and friendly and kind of gave the hotel a unique vibe which we kind of liked. Although we were very pleased with our stay and would absolutely recommend this hotel, you might need to lower your expectations just a little. The views from the cabins are good, but the best views are only from the main lookout point, not from the hotel property. The hotel is nice, but for the money, it is a little rough around the edges. We thought Lake Moraine was more interesting and beautiful than Lake Louise which was even busier with the Chateau hotel there truly overrun by tourists. As a point of information, Lake Louise Village is about a fifteen minute drive from the hotel and provides a surprisingly very limited selection of shops and restaurants. Overall, a stay here is one that you will always remember as very special. PS - Water from the tap was some the coldest and freshest we have ever had.
"Worth every penney!"

This is a lovely lodge on a gorgeous lake. The rooms are upscale, but the lodge still has a "lodgey" feeling. From the huge timbers in the main building to the location on the lake, this was a unique experience. There were guided hikes and naturalist talks in the evenings. Breakfast is included and the food was delicious. Canoes are available for resort guests. The staff were amazing and many return every year. The scenery is beautiful and we had a beautiful mountain and lake view from our duplex-style building. We had breakfast with one woman who has come for two weeks for the last 20 years. We met Dave, the owner who was a very gracious host. They even provide the newspaper and kindling for your fireplace. We loved it and would happily return.
"Outstanding location, lovely hotel"
09/04/14 SubarStaffs Stafford, United Kingdom
As it is pretty much the only building on the lake it is unique and the hotel very much reflects that uniqueness with thoughtful design, use of wood and making the best of the views. This place is so much more thoughtfully done than the commercialised Lake Louise. The hotel rooms are nicely furnished with comfortable beds, log fired heating in each room and all the normal add ons, although there isn't the self catering equipment we found in a lot of hotels we used in our three week trip. The dining room is gorgeous both in its outlook and in its food and service. The Lake is just stunning from almost any aspect and there are lots of hiking trails around from 30 minutes to several days.
"Beautiful, friendly, comfortable place"

Of course the best thing about this lodge is it's location. Absolutely gorgeous ! But still, the lodge itself is beautiful, the stuff is very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is great. The view of amazing Moraine lake straight from our room bed is something to remember for life. A bit steep with the prices but it's worth it! Thank you Sharon & Amir.
