I highly recommend Moraine Lake Lodge for its accommodations and proximity to the lake. My wife and I went here for our honeymoon and thoroughly enjoyed the lodge and its surroundings. Of the two lakes (Louise & Moraine), we were grateful we stayed at Moraine Lake Lodge as its lake and surrounding mountains and its hiking trails were more appealing and less touristy.

My wife and I can't speak highly enough about the Moraine Lake Lodge. The view of Moraine Lake from our cabin was outstanding. Services including meals, guided hikes, and evening speakers also distinguished this lodge. The road leading up to the lodge did become quite crowded with tourists visiting Moraine Lake or using the hiking trails that start at the lodge. That should be expected given the beauty of the area. And compared to Fairmount Lake Louise, the crowds were lighter. I would recommend the Moraine Lake Lodge for those visiting the Lake Louise area.

For a special anniversary, my husband and I stayed for 3 nights in a Deluxe King Cabin overlooking the breathtaking turquoise lake. While there are hikers along the lake trail most of the day, from 9 in the morning until 7 pm at night, it was mostly a quiet, serene setting. Our cabin was on the end, closest to the hiking trailhead entrance, away from the canoe dock, which can be noisy between the operating hours of 10 am- 5 pm. We ate all of our breakfasts and dinners in the Lodge dining room and the food and attentive service was excellent. We hiked each day with a guide (free for guests) and I highly recommend the experience. The hikes were not too difficult, and the information shared by the guide really added to the experience. My favorite photo from our 12 days in Banff, Jasper, and Lake Louise is from the upper perch above Moraine Lake, which is easily hiked up to from the parking lot.

We went to Moraine Lake Lodge on the strong recommendation of a friend and we are so glad that we did. It was absolutely perfect for us. It felt incredibly special and private (so different from the big hotels at Lake Louise and Banff) and the service was wonderful. We enjoyed breakfast and went canoeing - we were the only ones on the lake! This does not feel like stuffy or super glamorous luxury, but a privilege to stay in such a an incredible location.

Stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon and immediately, we were impressed as we got a personal tour of the lodge and facilities. We truly felt like privileged guests. There were a lot of great perks to staying at the Moraine Lake Lodge - a great breakfast in the morning, free access to the canoes, coffee/tea in the afternoon, discounts in the shop/cafe, and the amazing scenery. It was very, very expensive though and despite how much I loved it, it really makes me second-guess if I would go back. If you can afford it, book it.

We just stayed at the Moraine Lake Lodge with another couple. What a beautiful location and wonderful stay. The closest town is Lake Louise - but it was worth the drive when we wanted to go to town. Our cabins were beautiful with wonderful views of the lake. There is no cell service nor TV"s so if that's not to your liking - this hotel won't be. But we loved every minute even with our busy lives. There were three grizzly bears (mom and her two cubs) who "visited the property - but we never were at risk and it was a sight to behold. We got some great pictures! The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We never were bothered by the "crowds" since Lake Louise and the Chateau are much more traffic ridden. Our hike to consolation lake was terrific. The beds were very comfortable - the cabins are small but we have to say - it was our favorite hotel in our l0 days of travel through the Canadian Rockies.

We chose this hotel abpve the Fair, not as wanted a smaller and quieter out of the way romantic destination but it came with a few disappointing surprises. Location idyllic when the weather is kind to you. We were in a romantic cabin with real wood fire but the romance was decreased by us not realising that we had a public footpath outside the lodge as this is a major tourist destination with anything up to 10 coaches in car park by the morning. This lack of privacy, including sharing breakfast with crop ins from tours really lessened the enjoyment for us. In addition the food in the restaurant was significantly overpriced for the lack of quality delivered. We chose to change to eating at the Fairmont for 2 nights despite the hours return trip there. We had also hoped to try canoes on the lake and a guided walking tour but discovered that canoes so not get used in the rain and the tours do not happen in the week! This was by far the most expensive hotel in our holiday and did not deliver value for money and the weather which was truly horrific did not enhance the experience.

The staff at the hotel were great. Very friendly & helpful with any request. We were even given a walking tour of the hotel & the facilities at check-in. Breakfast, rental of the canoes & firewood for the fireplaces were all included at no extra charge. Of course the view is just spectacular especially after the day crowds have headed home. We had a great time & would highly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in the area especially if you are planning to do any of the hikes in the area.

The best part of this hotel is its situation overlooking the stunning Moraine Lake. Any niggles are mostly outweighed by this. It is not a cheap hotel and we did find the rooms small. The log burner was lovely but there was only one armchair in the room (not enough space for two). And despite their website saying that they cannot accommodate children under 8 years this is not the case and for both nights of our stay there was a 12/18 month old baby who did not provide us with a peaceful dinner and we left having eaten only a quick main course and went back to our room wine with us. I did check with a receptionist on check out and she quite abruptly informed me that they cannot recommend it to children under 8 years. So their website in this matter is incorrect. The restaurant was of a fine dining price range and probably overpriced. As I say you go for the lake but be careful what time of year you choose to visit as when we went (early June) quite a few trails were still shut, and our complimentary canoes were not in use yet, so if you're heavily into lots of hiking you might need to wait.

Don't like the layout of the lodge, difficult and tight passageways from floors where rooms are located to dining area. Dining room has great potential. Needs attention...tablecloths, better furniture, however the staff were tremendous. Grounds around building are tatty and need some attention.

The hotel is in a great location, the staff were friendly and efficient. Our room was well presented with great character and the fireplace laid to be lit. This resort is the best experience in Canada. It is situated 9 Kms ouyside Lake Louise and located on Lake Moraine. The cabuns are roomy, warm and have views to die for. The restaurant is fine dining with very reasonable prices. No TV means a quiet wander along the lake side and relaxation. This place is worth a drive out of your way to get to it.

This is a real gem in Canada. Little lodges with a real fire by the lake. A safe retreat from the wildlife and Grizzleys (yes we saw one close up and survived!). We stayed at the end of the season. The lodge is truly memorable - great food, wine, superb shop and also a cafe if you dont fancy a gourmet meal at lunchtime. Worth every penny for a special treat. The hotel Canoes are a must and the walk around the lake spectacular.

Moraine Lake Lodge is an outstanding hotel with a gorgeous view. Staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms are beautifully decorated - comfortable. The kayaking was memorable and breathtaking. The restaurant had fantastic fine dining and delicious breakfast. I definetely plan to return one day - as it is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

My family has stayed at Moraine Lake Lodge twice and each time it has been a rustic delight. the first time we stayed there, we had two adjoining lodge rooms, directly next to the cozy lounge. The second time we stayed, we had a deluxe cabin near the lake. The view from each was incredibly beautiful! We also enjoyed the great food, both in the formal dining room and in the sandwich shop. Hiking is terrific! I'd love to go again.

"Gorgeous Ultra-Romantic Hotel"

Of the places my wife and I stayed at in the Canadian Rockies, including the Fairmont Banff and the Fairmont Lake Louise, this place was definitely our favorite. We stayed in one of the cabins right on the lake - pretty room with a fireplace and a little balcony to look out over the beautiful Moraine Lake. This was for my wife's 50th birthday and it was perfect. (We were originally going to stay longer at the Fairmont Lake Louise but found this place even more appealing, and less expensive, though still pricey). Nice dining room with very good food. Only drawback in the cabins is the day-hikers walking by maybe 30 feet from the balcony - but the place is so perfect that you get used to that, and walk around the Lake itself is also gorgeous. Can't recommend this place highly enough, especially for a romantic stay.

"The best choice in the Rockies"
11/22/14 270Loch Loch, Australia
We stayed 3 nights at Moraine Lake Lodge in a deluxe cabin #9. This was a splurge but for location and experience it was well worth it. Our cabin was on the upper level in a block of 2 cabins furthest from the main lodge. We had a view between 2 cabins & over the lower row of cabins to the lake. As a bed & breakfast proprietor I expected this standard of accommodation to provide a small bar fridge and fresh milk for tea & coffee, not coffee whitener. Also for a 3 night stay I expected regular replenishing and adequate supplies of tea & coffee. The location is superb. There are walks for all levels of ability. The lakeshore walk is a gentle stroll, the Rockpile for the CAD$20 bill view of the 10 peaks is easily achieved by most people. The longer walks to Consolation Lakes, Larch Valley etc are sometimes ranger led. When we were there we had a day of rain so only had time for one longer walk and chose an unaccompanied walk to Consolation Lakes. To take this walk groups of 4 people are recommended for protection against bears. It was simple to wait at the trailhead and soon meet other walkers. It was an easy walk after crossing a boulder field, which really just required care, and mostly through lovely forest carpeted with soft fir needles. We were rewarded by beautiful views of lakes, mountains and hanging glaciers. The walk took 2 hours with 30-40 minutes at the lakes. As we had a 2 night package with an extra night added so we had complimentary canoeing on Moraine Lake. As complete novices we had a wonderful hour or so on the lake. We paddled to the furthest end to the source of the lake at the Wenkchemna River and into a secluded little bay. The clarity and colour of the water was amazing, crystal clear and turquoise blue, we could almost count the pebbles on the bottom. One evening we attended a very entertaining and interesting talk in the library on bird brains from a Great Divide presenter. We would highly recommend attending any of the talks but do make sure to ask we were not informed about them during our orientation and almost missed attending. "Afternoon tea" is served in the library. Don't expect much, leftover pastries from breakfast for early birds and then when these are gone packet biscuits!! Really Moraine Lake Lodge you can do better than this. Dining was a convoluted affair with greeters and waiters. The food was delivered far too quickly for enjoyable dining. We can highly recommend their scallop appetiser & beef tenderloin but the chef needs to restrain his hand with vegetables and cook meat to guests' liking. Elk tendeloin ordered rare was served barely warm and medium rare served blue. The vegetables on the plate did not compliment the meat. Braised red cabbage, asparagus, baby carrots and potatoes with red wine reduction were perfect but why add yellow bell pepper and a tomato, this did not show understanding of culinary balance. Desserts were generally poorly made and oversweet. Despite some minor criticism we would still recommend staying here over any other venue in Banff National Park.

"Luxury in the Mountains."

We first stayed in a room in the lodge, which was delightful. When we decided to stay an extra night, they only had a cabin overlooking the lake available. That room was absolutely amazing! We could lie in bed and see only trees and lake - it was like being in a tree house in the most beautiful natural setting. The meals in the restaurant were excellent. We went on one of their naturalist guided hikes to Larch Valley, which I would highly recommend, and also attended a nature talk, held in the library, by Joel Hagen which was informative and extremely entertaining. Make sure you make time to experience these events. The only thing that could be improved was that the bathrobes were a bit skimpy for my over 6' husband.

"A lake and mountain to yourself. Absolutely Beautiful"

This has to be one of the best in the Rockies and was our favourite. A beautiful hotel in a stunning location overlooking Lake Moraine. Not overdone or exploited like Lake Louise or busy like Banff & Jasper. This is much more subtle. There are tourists in the day but they are not there in the morning or evening and its like having a lake and mountain to yourself. Early morning walk is just wonderful and silent. You get a lodge of your own with a fire and a sitting area looking over the lake. Yes, it is quite expensive but its a special place to stay. The restaurant is fabulous, the staff are lovely.

"THE BEST lake in the Rockies"

We visited Emerald Lake, Lake Louise and Moraine Lake and believe we chose the best one to stay at. Moraine Lake is absolutely stunning and doesn't have the crowds of Lake Louise. The cabins are also more accessible to the water than those at Emerald Lake. Once the day trippers have gone for the day Moraine Lake is quiet and peaceful and you get way better photos once the glare has gone from the day. My best photos were taken about 10pm and 8am. Our deluxe king cabin was beautifully fitted out (a fridge and tea/coffee facilities would be a welcome addition though) and had a view of the lake. There is parking available for house guests and they provide a golf buggy to transfer you and your luggage to your cabin. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and found both to be excellent - expensive, but we've paid more for worse food before. The service in the restaurant and reception were all very good. There's a gift shop which has nice gift lines which were more reasonably priced than other places we'd seen so I was pleasantly surprised. I would recommend staying more than one night as we arrived too late in the day to enjoy the afternoon tea in the library and had to leave before the guided hikes the next morning. We walked up the rockpile to get stunning photos over the lake in the afternoon and evening and then walked the shoreline trail along the edge of the lake the next morning when it was so peaceful and quiet and the reflections on the water were beautiful. Some of the trails were either closed or could only be accessed by larger groups due to the presence of bears. If you can only afford to splurge on one special stop in the Rockies then stay here - you won't regret it. You'll forget the cost, but remember the beauty, tranquility and excellent facilities.

"Wonderful Anniversary Stay"

We stayed in one of the cabins during their last week being open for the season. The cabins are modern, very clean and nicely appointed. With the beautiful windows looking out to the lake, the fireplace on cool days or the deck on sunny day, it was a wonderful stay. The staff are very attentive and always ready to assist. There was a chilled bottle of champagne waiting for us upon our arrival. The guided hikes were fun and informative. We are looking forward to a return trip.

"Truly memorable & spectacular"

Stayed only 1 night @ Moraine Lake Lodge on July 1st. Back in January, I had spoken to General Manager Michael Clark & reserved a lodge queen balcony room. During our phone conversation, he was most pleasant & helpful, providing much info about hotel, local area, on-site guided nature hikes with naturalist, etc. Upon arrival, we were greeted & checked in by Front Office Manager Audriana, a super pleasant and genuinely friendly young lady. When she learned that it was our 1st trip to Western Canada and that we were celebrating my 60th birthday and a special wedding anniversary, she offered to (complimentary) upgrade us to a deluxe KING cabin with balcony. She gave us a tour of the main lodge building and lounge/coffee/common area and showed us the queen lodge room which was very inviting, and then the cabin … which was even more charming, quaint & luxurious! We retrieved our luggage from car & were escorted back to the deluxe cabin, by golf cart, by our delightful hostess Audriana. Our cabin had a very cozy sunken living room area with huge window & wood-burning fireplace ready to be lit (lots of extra firewood & kindling piled right outside our door). Patio door led to a private balcony with chairs & table, so relaxing, especially enjoyed morning coffee (in real cups, not disposable!) while breathing in the fresh mountain air ! Washroom also very luxurious, deep soaking tub – the entire cabin was immaculately clean! Other special touches included elegant wine glasses, coffeee & tea selections, excellent reading material & high quality roller blinds on all the fabulously large windows in the cabin. The king bed was super comfortable, with luxurious linens & awesome pillows! We also had a superb dinner in the dining room overlooking the lake. Our server Michael was most personable, very attentive (but not overly) and made excellent suggestions regarding menu, local beer & wine selections. Buffet breakfast provided in dining room overlooking the lake was delicious, many hot/cold selections of cereals, fresh breads, muffins, very fresh fruit salad, juices, cheese & fruit, eggs & breakfast meats, etc. We especially enjoyed an early morning walk to the end of the lake, so scenic & peaceful … before the non-guest tourists arrived to visit Moraine Lake! We were amazed by the # of tour buses which kept arriving during the day, but do NOT be discouraged by the masses of day tripping tourists or traffic congestion in the public parking lot – the Lodge has its own private parking behind the office & the tourists are mostly gone by 6 p.m. As avid amateur photographers, we spent much time up on the “Rock Pile” nearby, the very best vantage point overlooking the lake. It is my own personal opinion, having also been/stayed at Chateau Lake Louise on this trip, that Moraine Lake is THE most scenic & stunningly beautiful with its Valley of the Ten Peaks & distinct blue glacially fed water! Unfortunately did not have time to take in a guided nature hike. The staff, service & accommodations at Moraine Lake Lodge were all excellent and made our stay an incredibly memorable experience! This was definitely a very special place to spend our Canada Day, and we will definitely return (and stay longer) on our next trip to Western Canada!
