I highly recommend Moraine Lake Lodge for its accommodations and proximity to the lake. My wife and I went here for our honeymoon and thoroughly enjoyed the lodge and its surroundings. Of the two lakes (Louise & Moraine), we were grateful we stayed at Moraine Lake Lodge as its lake and surrounding mountains and its hiking trails were more appealing and less touristy.

My wife and I can't speak highly enough about the Moraine Lake Lodge. The view of Moraine Lake from our cabin was outstanding. Services including meals, guided hikes, and evening speakers also distinguished this lodge. The road leading up to the lodge did become quite crowded with tourists visiting Moraine Lake or using the hiking trails that start at the lodge. That should be expected given the beauty of the area. And compared to Fairmount Lake Louise, the crowds were lighter. I would recommend the Moraine Lake Lodge for those visiting the Lake Louise area.

For a special anniversary, my husband and I stayed for 3 nights in a Deluxe King Cabin overlooking the breathtaking turquoise lake. While there are hikers along the lake trail most of the day, from 9 in the morning until 7 pm at night, it was mostly a quiet, serene setting. Our cabin was on the end, closest to the hiking trailhead entrance, away from the canoe dock, which can be noisy between the operating hours of 10 am- 5 pm. We ate all of our breakfasts and dinners in the Lodge dining room and the food and attentive service was excellent. We hiked each day with a guide (free for guests) and I highly recommend the experience. The hikes were not too difficult, and the information shared by the guide really added to the experience. My favorite photo from our 12 days in Banff, Jasper, and Lake Louise is from the upper perch above Moraine Lake, which is easily hiked up to from the parking lot.

We went to Moraine Lake Lodge on the strong recommendation of a friend and we are so glad that we did. It was absolutely perfect for us. It felt incredibly special and private (so different from the big hotels at Lake Louise and Banff) and the service was wonderful. We enjoyed breakfast and went canoeing - we were the only ones on the lake! This does not feel like stuffy or super glamorous luxury, but a privilege to stay in such a an incredible location.

Stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon and immediately, we were impressed as we got a personal tour of the lodge and facilities. We truly felt like privileged guests. There were a lot of great perks to staying at the Moraine Lake Lodge - a great breakfast in the morning, free access to the canoes, coffee/tea in the afternoon, discounts in the shop/cafe, and the amazing scenery. It was very, very expensive though and despite how much I loved it, it really makes me second-guess if I would go back. If you can afford it, book it.

We just stayed at the Moraine Lake Lodge with another couple. What a beautiful location and wonderful stay. The closest town is Lake Louise - but it was worth the drive when we wanted to go to town. Our cabins were beautiful with wonderful views of the lake. There is no cell service nor TV"s so if that's not to your liking - this hotel won't be. But we loved every minute even with our busy lives. There were three grizzly bears (mom and her two cubs) who "visited the property - but we never were at risk and it was a sight to behold. We got some great pictures! The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We never were bothered by the "crowds" since Lake Louise and the Chateau are much more traffic ridden. Our hike to consolation lake was terrific. The beds were very comfortable - the cabins are small but we have to say - it was our favorite hotel in our l0 days of travel through the Canadian Rockies.

We chose this hotel abpve the Fair, not as wanted a smaller and quieter out of the way romantic destination but it came with a few disappointing surprises. Location idyllic when the weather is kind to you. We were in a romantic cabin with real wood fire but the romance was decreased by us not realising that we had a public footpath outside the lodge as this is a major tourist destination with anything up to 10 coaches in car park by the morning. This lack of privacy, including sharing breakfast with crop ins from tours really lessened the enjoyment for us. In addition the food in the restaurant was significantly overpriced for the lack of quality delivered. We chose to change to eating at the Fairmont for 2 nights despite the hours return trip there. We had also hoped to try canoes on the lake and a guided walking tour but discovered that canoes so not get used in the rain and the tours do not happen in the week! This was by far the most expensive hotel in our holiday and did not deliver value for money and the weather which was truly horrific did not enhance the experience.

The staff at the hotel were great. Very friendly & helpful with any request. We were even given a walking tour of the hotel & the facilities at check-in. Breakfast, rental of the canoes & firewood for the fireplaces were all included at no extra charge. Of course the view is just spectacular especially after the day crowds have headed home. We had a great time & would highly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in the area especially if you are planning to do any of the hikes in the area.

The best part of this hotel is its situation overlooking the stunning Moraine Lake. Any niggles are mostly outweighed by this. It is not a cheap hotel and we did find the rooms small. The log burner was lovely but there was only one armchair in the room (not enough space for two). And despite their website saying that they cannot accommodate children under 8 years this is not the case and for both nights of our stay there was a 12/18 month old baby who did not provide us with a peaceful dinner and we left having eaten only a quick main course and went back to our room wine with us. I did check with a receptionist on check out and she quite abruptly informed me that they cannot recommend it to children under 8 years. So their website in this matter is incorrect. The restaurant was of a fine dining price range and probably overpriced. As I say you go for the lake but be careful what time of year you choose to visit as when we went (early June) quite a few trails were still shut, and our complimentary canoes were not in use yet, so if you're heavily into lots of hiking you might need to wait.

Don't like the layout of the lodge, difficult and tight passageways from floors where rooms are located to dining area. Dining room has great potential. Needs attention...tablecloths, better furniture, however the staff were tremendous. Grounds around building are tatty and need some attention.

The hotel is in a great location, the staff were friendly and efficient. Our room was well presented with great character and the fireplace laid to be lit. The restaurant had great views and even nicer meals (I had a tasting plate of smoked meats - delicious). The hotel had an after dinner presentation which was informative and friendly. This resort is the best experience in Canada. It is situated 9 Kms ouyside Lake Louise and located on Lake Moraine. The cabuns are roomy, warm and have views to die for. The restaurant is fine dining with very reasonable prices. No TV means a quiet wander along the lake side and relaxation. This place is worth a drive out of your way to get to it.

"Well positioned hotel, with excellent resaturant"
07/01/15 BMW51K Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom
This is a delightful location, and so very popular for visitors. The hotel allows you to get away from the other tourists (well, we're all tourists aren't we?) as much as you like, and the rooms (in the main building) are well set up. The room furnishings are quaint and basic, but not uncomfortable. A good location for hiking - but as with many other areas, all hikes are "there and back" - none is circular. The restaurant is really good for evening meals, with good food choices, and excellent quality food and service - not cheap though! Self service breakfast is not too enticing - and the waiters expect a tip even though you get the food yourself! No kettle in the room - so no way to make a decent cup of tea.

"Nice lodging on a busy lake."
06/30/15 SantaMonicaMontana Seattle, Washington
There are two faces to the Moraine Lake Lodge—from 9:00am until 6:00pm—when all of the tourists are mulling around the lakeshore and grounds, and late evening and early morning, when they aren’t. I like the Moraine Lake Lodge when privacy and solitude are abundant when the tourists aren’t jamming the parking lots and trails. When they were, it wasn’t a peaceful and relaxing time. Sure, it’s less busy that going to Lake Louise by a long shot, but it’s still on page 1 of things for tourists to do. The rooms were nice. The food was good. The service was just starting to get on track (remember most of the employees are seasonal college students or graduates from Ontario). A nice place and a nice hike to the end of the lake and back. Would I go back…I’m not sure.

"Lovely lodge and Great Views!"
06/25/15 G Valley Bo Y Greater Manchester, United Kingdom
We're soooo glad that we booked a place to stay at Lake Moraine instead of the fairmont at Lake Louise. Lake Moraine in my opinion is a lot more scenic and slightly quieter. We had one really sunny day at the lake and the surroundings along with the beautiful colour of the lake is wonderful. The lodge is a little pricey however we decided on treating ourselves as part of our honeymoon. The queen room over looking the lake was small and cosy and we made the most of the view sitting out on the balcony both nights. Breakfasts were one word...superb, the best we had all holiday. The freebies taken were another big plus. Free kayaks, guided walk and wifi (when working). Anyone visiting lake Moraine ought to climb the rock pile, a 5 minute climb with awesome views making great photographs. We ate at the restaurant one evening and the food was 5 stars! Having booked a table for half 7 at the night time and after arriving on time but having been made to wait until 8 o clock however was a little disappointing however the meal more than made up for the delay. Great stay and very friendly, happy to help staff!!

"Location, location, location!"
06/25/15 construkshuns
The high price here is all about location. That said, service was excellent. Rooms were very nice (small for price if you don't consider that the location, again, is everything here). Restaurant was very good, make sure you make reservations. Also, it's nice that they do not nickel and dime you after paying such a high price to begin with- free wifi (only really works from the lodge, not much luck in the room), free breakfast, free use of bear spray for hikes, canoes, etc. Slightly cramped room was totally made up for by outstanding views from our window- who would want to stay inside anyway? Just a few steps from excellent hiking and views. Consolation lakes hike was my favorite part of the entire Canadian Rockies experience. Also, loved the naturalist talks, Joel was great fun.

"Best home on Best Lake"
06/24/15 Toni Z Sydney, Australia
Lake Moraine Lodge is the only place to stay if you are visiting lake Louise, because that way you see a lake that is much prettier and skirted by the twelve peaks. Lake moraine is much bluer, and more intimate that luise as the mountains are in close proximity. But one the best things about lake moraine is the moraine lodge. We had booked a cabin with a view of the lake at a significant cost of about $700 Austrlaian dollars a night. The checking in was not smooth and really gave us a poor impression of the establishment and also a poor start. We had arrived from Cathedral Lodge where we had spent the previous night and which is a sister establishment at Field. We arrived ready to begin some canoeing on the lake and wanted to know if we could check in early. We were told our room was not ready and check in was at 3 pm. Our friends who had booked the cheaper accomodation got in immediately. I need to change before going out on canoe so I waited and waited for a clearance on our room. By 3 pm we had had lunch and the room was barely ready. By 3.30 pm were had our luggage take to our cabin and on arrival we found that the cabin no 7 had very little view of the lake but more of the rooves of the other cabins. Moreover the room was totally over powering with the smell of burnt firewood. It was nearly inpossbile to breathe even with the windows open. I entered the bathroom which had a very strong smell of mildew. I knew that the strong firewood exhaust would prevent me from sleeping well so I went to see management to voice my complaint about the state of the cabin and the lack of view. the management were able to find me an alternative cabin no 16 which has a beautiful view across the lake and towards the canoe dispatch area. The cabin had no smell and I remarked to the staff that while I too had a fireplace it did not have an overpowering smell of burnt wood in the cabin itself. I was told this cabin had not been occupied overnight. I was not very impressed when I heard that because u we had arrived early to begin our activities on the lake and while this cabin had always been a viable and was unoccupied we were made to wait almost 3 hours for a different cabin apparently of the same price and cost. When I asked questions I was told it was because we booked with an agency on the net rather than book directly with th hotel. Needless to say this lack of courtesy cost us the best part of the day and prevented us from climbing the marine to see the lake from that vantage point. After the canoing we walked around the lake before the light drizzle settled in. Having had a shaky start the dinner at the lodge was good and our stay was cmpfortable and relaxing. I honestly think this is the best place to stay regardless of the setback. The cafeteria downstairs in the main lodge, which is open to the public does a wonderfull takeaway sandwich on marbled rye that is a little gourmet delight in itself. The staff are also very helpful. We would stay again but would book directly with the hotel and ask for cabin 16.

"Simply put ..... Amazing!"

We stayed in one of the log cabins and it was beautifully decked out with a massive king bed and private balcony and the best part as our own fire place. The wood was always stocked. The staff were helpful very polite and informative. Not only did we have amazing lake views and the lake at our doorstep there are some lovely walks most notably Larch Valley and Sentinel Pass. Highly recommended.

"A really rather disappointing two night stay"

We, like many I suspect, chose our Canadian vacation hotels from the photos on their websites. A word of warning this can be very disappointing!!! This hotel was to be a highlight of our Canadian honeymoon, being rather more expensive than the others on our trip (Fairmont at Jasper, Rimrock in Banff) - but what more could you wish for on a honeymoon trip than a lakeside log cabin lodge! Well, not a semi-detached pale green shed for a start. And the rooms are surprisingly small. The room space incorporates a bed area plus a sitting room area with log fire, which sounds nice, but sleeping in a wood smoke smell is rather unpleasant. Also space for our two suitcases would have been good! And you could hardly call the small cupboard provided a wardrobe. The other "wardrobe" housed the kettle, coffee maker, cups and tea/coffee sachet tray. The accommodation felt more of an upmarket "backpacker" hostel rather than exclusive getaway lodge. The bathroom was also on the small and cosy side. Granted the Moraine Lake views are stunning, but they are also very popular, as the overflowing public car park at the side of the Lodge proved. Although we stayed for 2 nights, after the first night's fiasco in the Restaurant - when we only received one of our requested meals; the second, a chicken choice, was surprisingly substituted by the waitress with a fish dish! When we advised her of her mistake she replied "do you want to chomp on this until the chicken is ready!"!!!. After the first night gastronomic disaster we opted for the Pub in Lake Louise village - fabulous pub grub, and a bonus, we got what we ordered!!! A Buffet Breakfast was included for both nights with a reasonable choice of breakfast food items, although on both mornings the refilling of these items was tardy. Would we recommend this hotel - absolutely Not! On our Canadian travels we stayed at 8 different hotels over 18 nights, and this was not only the most expensive per night, it was by far the worst both in facilities and service.

"Amazing Mountain Experience"

Unfortunately we only stayed at the Moraine Lake Lodge for one night but what an experience! To start with, we were abandoned at a shopping mall in Lake Louise by Brewsters and the promised transfer never arrived (or indeed was scheduled to arrive apparently - another story). We called the hotel to see what the best way to get there would be (it seems a $50 taxi drive was the only option) and without hesitation, a delightful staff member drove the 10 miles over in her own car to collect us and take us to the Lodge! Outstanding!! The Lodge itself is almost beyond comparison - to-die-for location, fabulous, easy walks by the lake, a cabin room with a wood fire for those colder nights or just a bit of extra atmosphere, the best steak we had on our trip and just the best staff possible, Thank you for an unforgettable experience. And also thanks for not giving us a TV - who needs it with views of the lake and mountains right from the balcony.

"A WOW view and a WOW GM!"

I am a mountain girl and this lodge did not disappoint. Greeted by warm, inviting people, into a warm and inviting environment. Michael, the GM, was amazing he runs a great establishment and no guest need is unattended. All you really need is the view from any balcony, and you are at the gateway to so many amazing hiking trails. You won't be disappointed, even if all you like to do is sit and admire the outdoors, there are so many places to do so here! We will be back, no doubt about it!
