"Ideal alternative to Lake Louise accommodations"
My wife and I can't speak highly enough about the Moraine Lake Lodge. The view of Moraine Lake from our cabin was outstanding. Services including meals, guided hikes, and evening speakers also distinguished this lodge. The road leading up to the lodge did become quite crowded with tourists visiting Moraine Lake or using the hiking trails that start […] at the lodge. That should be expected given the beauty of the area. And compared to Fairmount Lake Louise, the crowds were lighter. I would recommend the Moraine Lake Lodge for those visiting the Lake Louise area. "Most beautiful lake setting in all of Banff"
For a special anniversary, my husband and I stayed for 3 nights in a Deluxe King Cabin overlooking the breathtaking turquoise lake. While there are hikers along the lake trail most of the day, from 9 in the morning until 7 pm at night, it was mostly a quiet, serene setting. Our cabin was on the end, closest to the hiking trailhead entrance, away from […] the canoe dock, which can be noisy between the operating hours of 10 am- 5 pm. We ate all of our breakfasts and dinners in the Lodge dining room and the food and attentive service was excellent. We hiked each day with a guide (free for guests) and I highly recommend the experience. The hikes were not too difficult, and the information shared by the guide really added to the experience. My favorite photo from our 12 days in Banff, Jasper, and Lake Louise is from the upper perch above Moraine Lake, which is easily hiked up to from the parking lot. Super friendly staff, great to have activities included as well as breakfast! Room was a little small with, very little storage for bags, etc. Overall a very pleasant stay!Genuine Expedia guest review
We went to Moraine Lake Lodge on the strong recommendation of a friend and we are so glad that we did. It was absolutely perfect for us. It felt incredibly special and private (so different from the big hotels at Lake Louise and Banff) and the service was wonderful. We enjoyed breakfast and went canoeing - we were the only ones on the lake! This does […] not feel like stuffy or super glamorous luxury, but a privilege to stay in such a an incredible location. Stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon and immediately, we were impressed as we got a personal tour of the lodge and facilities. We truly felt like privileged guests. There were a lot of great perks to staying at the Moraine Lake Lodge - a great breakfast in the morning, free access to the canoes, coffee/tea in the afternoon, discounts in the shop/cafe, […] and the amazing scenery. It was very, very expensive though and despite how much I loved it, it really makes me second-guess if I would go back. If you can afford it, book it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We just stayed at the Moraine Lake Lodge with another couple. What a beautiful location and wonderful stay. The closest town is Lake Louise - but it was worth the drive when we wanted to go to town. Our cabins were beautiful with wonderful views of the lake. There is no cell service nor TV"s so if that's not to your liking - this hotel won't be. But […] we loved every minute even with our busy lives. There were three grizzly bears (mom and her two cubs) who "visited the property - but we never were at risk and it was a sight to behold. We got some great pictures! The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We never were bothered by the "crowds" since Lake Louise and the Chateau are much more traffic ridden. Our hike to consolation lake was terrific. The beds were very comfortable - the cabins are small but we have to say - it was our favorite hotel in our l0 days of travel through the Canadian Rockies. "Romantic Gem - Almost"
We chose this hotel abpve the Fair, not as wanted a smaller and quieter out of the way romantic destination but it came with a few disappointing surprises. Location idyllic when the weather is kind to you. We were in a romantic cabin with real wood fire but the romance was decreased by us not realising that we had a public footpath outside the lodge […] as this is a major tourist destination with anything up to 10 coaches in car park by the morning. This lack of privacy, including sharing breakfast with crop ins from tours really lessened the enjoyment for us. In addition the food in the restaurant was significantly overpriced for the lack of quality delivered. We chose to change to eating at the Fairmont for 2 nights despite the hours return trip there. We had also hoped to try canoes on the lake and a guided walking tour but discovered that canoes so not get used in the rain and the tours do not happen in the week! This was by far the most expensive hotel in our holiday and did not deliver value for money and the weather which was truly horrific did not enhance the experience. The best part of this hotel is its situation overlooking the stunning Moraine Lake. Any niggles are mostly outweighed by this. It is not a cheap hotel and we did find the rooms small. The log burner was lovely but there was only one armchair in the room (not enough space for two). And despite their website saying that they cannot accommodate children […] under 8 years this is not the case and for both nights of our stay there was a 12/18 month old baby who did not provide us with a peaceful dinner and we left having eaten only a quick main course and went back to our room wine with us. I did check with a receptionist on check out and she quite abruptly informed me that they cannot recommend it to children under 8 years. So their website in this matter is incorrect. The restaurant was of a fine dining price range and probably overpriced. As I say you go for the lake but be careful what time of year you choose to visit as when we went (early June) quite a few trails were still shut, and our complimentary canoes were not in use yet, so if you're heavily into lots of hiking you might need to wait. Don't like the layout of the lodge, difficult and tight passageways from floors where rooms are located to dining area. Dining room has great potential.

Genuine Expedia guest review

"Truly memorable & spectacular"
10/17/14 Suzanne B Sudbury, Canada
Stayed only 1 night @ Moraine Lake Lodge on July 1st. Back in January, I had spoken to General Manager Michael Clark & reserved a lodge queen balcony room. During our phone conversation, he was most pleasant & helpful, providing much info about hotel, local area, on-site guided nature hikes with naturalist, etc. Upon arrival, we were greeted & checked in by Front Office Manager Audriana, a super pleasant and genuinely friendly young lady. When she learned that it was our 1st trip to Western Canada and that we were celebrating my 60th birthday and a special wedding anniversary, she offered to (complimentary) upgrade us to a deluxe KING cabin with balcony. She gave us a tour of the main lodge building and lounge/coffee/common area and showed us the queen lodge room which was very inviting, and then the cabin … which was even more charming, quaint & luxurious! We retrieved our luggage from car & were escorted back to the deluxe cabin, by golf cart, by our delightful hostess Audriana. Our cabin had a very cozy sunken living room area with huge window & wood-burning fireplace ready to be lit (lots of extra firewood & kindling piled right outside our door). Patio door led to a private balcony with chairs & table, so relaxing, especially enjoyed morning coffee (in real cups, not disposable!) while breathing in the fresh mountain air ! Washroom also very luxurious, deep soaking tub – the entire cabin was immaculately clean! Other special touches included elegant wine glasses, coffeee & tea selections, excellent reading material & high quality roller blinds on all the fabulously large windows in the cabin. The king bed was super comfortable, with luxurious linens & awesome pillows! We also had a superb dinner in the dining room overlooking the lake. Our server Michael was most personable, very attentive (but not overly) and made excellent suggestions regarding menu, local beer & wine selections. Buffet breakfast provided in dining room overlooking the lake was delicious, many hot/cold selections of cereals, fresh breads, muffins, very fresh fruit salad, juices, cheese & fruit, eggs & breakfast meats, etc. We especially enjoyed an early morning walk to the end of the lake, so scenic & peaceful … before the non-guest tourists arrived to visit Moraine Lake! We were amazed by the # of tour buses which kept arriving during the day, but do NOT be discouraged by the masses of day tripping tourists or traffic congestion in the public parking lot – the Lodge has its own private parking behind the office & the tourists are mostly gone by 6 p.m. As avid amateur photographers, we spent much time up on the “Rock Pile” nearby, the very best vantage point overlooking the lake. It is my own personal opinion, having also been/stayed at Chateau Lake Louise on this trip, that Moraine Lake is THE most scenic & stunningly beautiful with its Valley of the Ten Peaks & distinct blue glacially fed water! Unfortunately did not have time to take in a guided nature hike. The staff, service & accommodations at Moraine Lake Lodge were all excellent and made our stay an incredibly memorable experience! This was definitely a very special place to spend our Canada Day, and we will definitely return (and stay longer) on our next trip to Western Canada!
"Great Lodge on a beautiful Lake"
10/09/14 KLN73 Arlington, Virginia
I stayed in the lodge for three nights at the end of September, 2014 (the last weekend before they closed). The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. I took an organized hike up to the Larch Valley led by one of the staff and he answered all our questions and was sure to keep the group together. The breakfast buffet every morning was outstanding having a full selection of things to eat and an unbelievable view. The lodge is located right on the lake making it easy to see the lake and get to the trails in the mountains around it. It's also just a short 11 km drive to Lake Louise. While I wouldn't say it is cheap to stay here, I believe it is comparable to the casino sized resort at Lake Louise, but has more character as it is smaller and more 'lodgey'. I would recommend this location to anyone I know heading to Moraine Lake or Banff, and plan on staying here again when I return.
"Highlight of our Canadian holiday"
10/08/14 cynnz2014 Auckland, New Zealand
When I booked at Moraine Lake Lodge I emailed and phoned to ensure we got one of the Deluxe Cabins on the water with good views. We were hugely disappointed on arrival to find that we were in one of the Deluxe cabins in the row behind the water front ones with limited lake views between the front units. They could not change our room so we decided to put this significant disappointment behind us and enjoy our stay. And we did enjoy our stay. We had a fabulous time here and it was a definite highlight of our three week holiday. We spent a lot of time researching on Trip Advisor before our holiday and the information we read was correct. Moraine Lake is definitely the better place to stay if you are choosing between Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. It is quieter with less tourists and Moraine Lake is stunningly beautiful. We had a rental car so drove the short distance to Lake Louise and did the hike to Lake Agnes tea house. The staff at Moriane Lake Lodge are very friendly, the rooms are gorgeous and the restaurant serves a top quality meal. We loved our waitress Nikki too. Super friendly and very efficient. Had some great guided hikes with Devin as well. We will definitely come back here but we will be much more careful about ensuring we get the room we want!

We spent nearly 4 weeks on our Canadian holiday staying in some wonderful places, and Moraine Lake Lodge was one of the very best. The view from our room and balcony in the Lodge was stupendous. The snow that had fallen on the peaks a few days before added to the wonder. The Lodge, and particularly our room was comfortable and the staff attentive. It gave us great access to the trails, and the advice and help from the staff regarding routes and bears ensured our safety. The breakfasts and dinners in the lodge were enjoyable, and the service very welcoming. We enjoyed the talk on High Tech Bears. We shall return.
"What a pleasure it was to stay here"
From the moment we checked in I knew we were in a special place. We were tired, cranky, hungry and the young woman at the front desk couldn't have been nicer. At our request (and at the last minute) she cheerfully cancelled our dinner reservation, found us beers and sandwiches and brought them to our room within 10 minutes!. The sandwiches (from the on site café that closed prior to our arrival, were really good. The room was great! The décor was cabin chic and very new. The bathroom was amazing. Loved having the fireplace with endless supplies of wood and kindling. When we made the reservation, we said it was a special anniversary trip, so they had a complimentary bottle of champagne chilled and waiting for us. My husband enjoyed the daily guided hike. I enjoyed quiet time in the huge soaking tub. I can't say enough about the place. We were treated very well...like you want to be treated when you spend a lot for a room; yet it was a small, intimate lodge, not some huge slick corporate chain. Oh..and yes the views are amazing.

We stayed in the luxury cabin overlooking the lake in September for 2 beautiful blissful awesome nights. It began snowing as we had arrived which added to our excitement and wonderment at this magnificent location. The landscape changed with the snow, clouds, rain and sun, providing us with the most magical time. I took photos like a crazy woman, constantly in disbelief at the beauty of this place. Cabin, restaurant, staff - just perfect. If I die today, I die absolutely and blissfully content. Pure magic.

My husband and I recently stayed here for a whole week for our honeymoon. First time to Canada and I have to say we were not disappointed! Moraine Lake and the surrounding Valley of the Ten Peaks are just stunning, no words really give this place justice. The Lodge is beautifully crafted and sits perfectly on the lake shore. We stayed in cabin no 17, one word. Wow! The bed is HUUUUUUGE! You can both starfish and still not touch!! There was a log fire in the sunken sitting area, which we eventually got the hang of lighting (after a little help from the fire king, Doug!) and the bath is amazing, really deep, which was lovely to sink into after a long day hiking. Each room is given a complimentary bottle of wine, tea and coffee making facilities (including a coffee percolator!), log, paper and tinder refills throughout the day and a daily housekeeping service, which is impeccable! There is no tv or phone service, purposely done to give you the full experience of the tranquillity of the place. The whole place was clean and tidy, the staff were fantastic, friendly and welcoming and the service is outstanding. I was unwell one day and they couldn't do enough for us, even letting my husband take his evening meal back to our cabin so he could be with me. The gift shop is lovely, always tidy and, at this time of year, cheap! They had a 50% off sale on all items with Moraine Lake on them, which was great. The food is of a very high standard, always fresh and cooked to perfection, my husband's favourite dish being the elk, which he had twice. All-in-all, yes it is expensive, but you get what you pay for, and we certainly feel that we got the best at this lodge.
"Gorgeous place... Staffing needs work."

Obviously, Moraine Lake is BEAUTIFUL. It is well worth the trip. Moraine Lake lodge takes advantage of their prime location and gives just "okay" service. It's like they're not really trying to offer an exclusive experience because they know people will stay here no matter the hotel experience. It is quite expensive for what you get, but if you want to beat the the crowds to Moraine Lake, then you have to actually stay here. Our room was very cute and rustic which definitely matched the surroundings. No TV, but we did not mind. I liked the wood fireplace. I did not care for the very flimsy separation between rooms on the balcony, and our neighbors could easily see in if they wanted to. Checking in was a tad frustrating because they only had one person to do it, and I had to wait for 20 minutes to check in. Yes, there are worse problems in the world, but hey, if I'm spending that much money, I'd just like my key, please. The very nice young lady who checked us in made reservations for us at the lodge's dinner for 8:30 (the last available time slot), and when we showed up at 8:30, we were told it would just be a minute. 25 minutes later, we were still sitting there waiting. It would have been just fine if we had been offered one of the empty tables and had some pre-dinner drinks, but that was lost on the staff. It is clear they were very unprepared for the holiday (it was Labour Day) rush. Overall, I would stay here again to try it one more time. We had no issues with our room, noise, or otherwise. We really liked that they allowed us to use the canoes in the morning prior to the rental office "technically" opened. That was nice of them.

Absolutely fantastic scenery, lovely place to stay. We had an upstairs room in main lodge, with the most amazing view over the lake. We sat on the balcony and read our books. No tv or fridge, but that didn't bother us at all, we were there to relax and that was easy to do with such a gorgeous view. Room was lovely, exactly the rustic style we were expecting and loved. Little bit dusty (I'm a professional cleaner!), but in fact it didn't bother me. Exotic complementary teas (and coffee) in the room. Lovely library, where coffee and tea were served between 3 and 5pm, but we found the coffee only lukewarm by 4.30, and the biscuits were rubbish! Still, breakfasts were lovely, and served till 10.30, so we didn't need lunch. We stayed 3 nts and ate at the restauraunt for 2 nts; not cheap (and wine also expensive), but we found food and drink expensive everywhere in Canada. But the food was great. Free canoeing on the lake was good. We would definitely recommend the place to people who want fantastic scenery and a relaxing stay; all we did was a couple of short hikes and read books the rest of the time. Didn't bother with Lake Louise, we had a better view from our balcony. Car park very busy with day trippers, but didn't really impact on us, we had guest parking.
"An excellent room with a breathtaking view"
09/29/14 WalterCooke Port Severn, Canada
This is an expensive resort, but well worth a stay, just for the stunning view from your room. We stayed for three nights in one of the 'ordinary' lodge rooms, but still had a breathtaking view of the lake and surrounding mountains. The room was warm, quiet, and had a large balcony with chairs and a table for sitting with a hot tea and watching the clouds swirl around the mountain tops. The food (breakfast and dinner) was excellent every day. The staff are attentive and happy to take the time to assist you in making your stay enjoyable. We even asked if they would organize a list of people interested in hiking along one of the many trails so that we could get a group together; they were happy to oblige. Hiking the longer, more challenging trails requires a bit of logistics; you need to have a group of four or more to hike together in grizzly bear territory these days (it's the law). You can stand at the trail head near the lodge and wait for others to come along, but we found that to be very unreliable way to meet other hikers going our way, so it's better to plan ahead! There are also canoes for guests to take for a trip around the sapphire blue Moraine Lake (weather permitting). Do it earlier in the day, as there is often a breeze on the lake in the afternoons. All and all, a very enjoyable stay, and a lot fewer people than back in the Lake Louise area which is always crowded.
