Comfortable and clean and quiet.
"Very convenient to convention center"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Friendly, competent staff, beautiful public spaces, great location if you're attending a conference at the Washington Convention Center. Room was a bit dated, had no safe or fridge, merely adequate bathroom.

Downtown DC is awash with culture. The Smithsonian Institution museum complex flanks the National Mall. The Washington Monument bisects the Mall, just south of the White House. Federal agency headquarters house bureaucrats of varying stripes. Moneyed and powerful lobbyists help create (and quash) laws from K Street. Chinatown and the Washington Convention Center lie east of downtown.
see all hotels in Washington"Epically close to the White House"
For a family of frequent DC travelers I have to say this hotel is a must-stay! Literally across the park from the White House, you can't get much closer to the action. The hotel staff were very friendly. However the concseirge desk wasnt as helpful as I would have liked when it came to specific knowledge about capitol access. The restaurant was picture […] perfect and the food was superb (at city rates of course), and there are plenty of other restaurants within walking distance. Read more
"was within walking distance of almost all the site"
very comfortable room, we wanted to participate in not having our towels washed everyday but even tho we hung them up as noted we should, we received new towels daily.

"Loved it!"
My husband and I have stayed here on 2 seperate occasions now and had a fantastic experience on both occasions. The staff was very friendly and always offered to help. They gave us directions and maps. They even offered to let us borrow umbrellas on one of the rainy days. The location is great too. It is within walking distance to all of the attractions. […] Although, I would recommend taking a short cab ride there & walking back. Read more
"Location makes it worth it"
The location of this hotel is fantastic, otherwise it's extremely expensive for the lack of amenities available. No pool, rooms are rather old and musty, broken switch in bathroom. TV faces a blank spot on the wall rather than the coach or beds. No refrigerator (just an outlandishly expensive minibar), no microwave. All that being said, if your going […] to DC to see the sites and don't plan on spending much time at your hotel, it's passable due to the convenient location. Read more

"Outstanding Accommodations"
Everything was to our liking; staff was polite, helpful and unobtrusive, just the way we like it. Location was fabulous as we were tourists in search of the cherry blossoms.

"Nice hotel but..."
My family and I enjoyed our stay at the Sofitel in DC this past weekend. The hotel was clean and comfortable and the staff was very nice. When we returned to our room the first evening, there were cookies and milk waiting for my two young daughters. That was a personal and sweet touch. But other than that, I found the hotel to be like all other decent […] hotels. There were a couple of things that irritated us thought. For starters, they charge for wi-fi. I found that to be absolutely ridiculous and all I could think was how antiquated and out-of-touch compared with their competition. Cheap road-side motels that offer "hourly" rates offer FREE wi-fi, but not this exclusive DC hotel?? Penny-wise, pound foolish! And my second complaint...their onsite restaurants were outrageously priced for mediocre food. One evening we chose to dine in their LeBar. Although the bar was beautiful and cozy, the prices for drinks and food were stratospheric. It was no surprise that the bar and restaurant (despite their claims for being a DC hotspot) were DEAD on a Saturday night when DC was booming with the cherry blossoms. Read more
"SOFITEL NYC"
A few "fixes" were needed. Door locks easily jammed and we had to have an escort to show us how to get into our room. Do not know if that's a universal problem, but when the desk clerk did it he dropped a comment that suggested many clients have the same experience. If universal -- it should be fixed. Liked the location for walking convenience to our […] art tour destinations. Art Tour Guest Read more
"Very Nice But Short of Perfect"
Hard to beat the location, pleasant demeanor of the staff, bed comfort and on-site food and beverage. Pet-friendly as well. However, the rooms are somewhat small, the bathroom is immediately next to the bed, the hotel is somewhat skimpy on towels and toiletries and slow to respond to requests for more. It would also benefit from a gift shop and reasonably […] priced cafe or restaurant. However, 24-hour room service is available. A very pleasant place to stay overall and worthy of consideration. "Beautiful and comfortable"
We found this hotel to be very nice. Its was decorated nicely. Parisian inspired but modern. The room was very nice and had all the amenities that we were looking for. The bed was very soft and the curtians made the room extra dark which we also love! I would stay there again. Bonus: it's walking distance to the white house!

"Worth the price!"
I usually stay in Holiday Inn type hotels, but decided to splurge for my family's trip to DC. It was definitely worth the price! The hotel staff was THE FRIENDLIEST I have ever encountered. From valet at arrival to loading our luggage at departure, everyone always had a smile and something nice to say. The bell hop offered a mini-fridge at no charge […] to hold our son's milk since the mini-bar fridge automatically charges you if you remove anything. They brought a crib for my son complete with baby bath soap/shampoo, slippers, and a baby robe. These little details make all the difference. Location to White House and National Mall is excellent. Also a Metro a block away. The $40/night valet is about standard for DC. While there isn't any kind of complimentary breakfast items, the bar has excellent coffee and tea in the morning. The restaurant has breakfast, but a bit pricey for breakfast if you ask me. A few bakeries within 3 blocks are good alternatives. The bar seemed to be a pretty happening place for evening drinks. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend the hotel if you can get a good price like we did (3 nights for price of 2). Read more

"Hotel Sofitel Washington D.C."
I was expecting more elegance out of the room and view. It was nice however. The service was great, they were helpful with getting around D.C. But again I was expecting a little more "pizaz" from a "4-star" hotel.
"Walking distance from White House."
Very conveniently located with a friendly staff.

"Sofitel DC"
The staff was very helpful and pleasant. Everything else was good except the stuffiness of the room. Some people want to shut the heat off and open a window for some fresh air. You cannot open the windows in this hotel. Sleeping was not easy for us due to the stuffiness of the room.

"Always excellent"
The Sofitel always feels like an oasis in DC, in the middle of things but always a bit above the fray. Great service, food is excellent. It's my first choice when traveling on business or pleasure in this city.

"Sofitel DC"
Nice and comfortable hotel, close to major sites and Metro station. Wished there was more room in the mini fridge to store snacks and soda I brought.
"Super Beds"

"Needs better management"
Hotel room, although "luxury" was small. Closet had less than a foot of hanging space and part of that was taken by an iron. My towel had three large ripped holes in it. Appeared to have been shredded. WOudl be impossible to miss when folding. It is a convenient location but I would look elsewhere upon my next visit to DC. Very disappointing given the […] price paid. "Sofitel Washington Lafayette Square great location"
Very nice hotel and really great location. Presidential motorcade added to the interest!
"Service and Comfort"
I've stayed here on several occasions and have always had an excellent stay. The service is always above and beyond ( not as much in the restaurant) and you can't beat the location. i'll stay here whenever in DC. Worth the price especially on the weekends.

"Great location; Greate quality."
Really enjoyed our stay. Especially with the great deal we got on Hotels.com. Great location; staff; facilities; service... even small things like an umbrella for lend on a rainy day - every our wish was granted.
"Nice looking hotel - had a couple major issues"
This is a great looking and comfortable hotel in a great area in DC. I had 2 major issues, however, that shouldn't have happened in such a nice place. First, the hot water didn't work in my room. I told the front desk, they said they'd send someone up. The next day, still no hot water. Second, it took 45 minutes to get our car from the valet. We were […] late to our meeting. On top of that, there was a huge scratch above one of the doors. There are plenty of nice hotels in DC. I probably wouldn't stay here again. Read more
"Very nice"
Great bed, excellent location, hotel meals costly/delicious, no pool, nice European ambiance
"SOFITEL DC"
My only issue was the fact that I almost got charged for mini bar items never eaten. I had some leftovers, so I took out some non-perishables to put my leftovers in the little refridgerator and my room was charges. Upon checkout though, the desk host removed the charges after I explained the situation.
"Location & nice deal"
I had a junior suite which was nice for a great deal. Only thing that I did not like about the hotel is that everything is more overpriced than normally. Other than that the location was great to getting around and had a great time.
This hotel is located about two blocks from the white house.
"Sofitel Washington great location and hotel"
Located 2 blocks from white house. Staff was great! Very accommodating. Food was very good. Ordered room service. They seemed a bit confused. But all in all a great experience and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

"Great Hotel"
Great hotel in a great DC location. A little expensive but always enjoy the splurge.
"Excellent room"
Room was very comfortable & clean. Would definitely stay here again.
"Just perfect from top to bottom"
We were very satisfied with the service and accomodations. The place was clean, well maintained and the staff was very helpful. Located just a few blocks from the White House, se we walked there every evening. One day the staff prepared a picnic basket fo us to have lunch with the squirrels on the white house lawn. Try to be there for a Sunday morning […] as the hotel is next to the church President Obama attends, and you can catch a glimpse of his coming and goings. Breakfast was good in the hotel, but watch out for the room service fees. Across the street was a good steak house called Bobby Vans.Just down the street was the Old Ebbit Grill, recommended to us by the door man, my son and I had dessert there every night. Read more

"Sofitel Washington, D.C."
Disappointed with Hotel front desk staff. Understaffed on check-in. One staff, three guests. Check-out was problematic as well.
"Minutes from White House and all other attractions"
The location is the main advantage of the Sofitel in Washington DC. For 4 days there was no need for me and my family to use a car and we saw everything! The hotel has extremely nice staff and everyone is elegant and always ready to help. A small beg with a bath robe, rubber duckie and all needed supplies. It was sooo quite :) The room service meal […] we had was delicious - lamb and Cobb salad were just delicious. The only draw back is parking. The only available option is valet parking which comes at a very hefty rate. Over all extremely happy with our stay. Thank you Sofitel Read more
