The only thing that was wrong with the room was that I requested an ocean view balcony....in my opinion a balcony is something that you can walk out on to not a window that over looks the ocean ACROSS the street and the window opens approximately 2 inches. Other than the room not actually having an "ocean veiw balcony" our stay was great!!

Nice short walk to the beach from the hotel. Sad part is we ended up staying there on a rainy night. Hotel was great and very pleasing! I enjoyed the complimentary fruit near the breakfast area that was available throughout the day. I used their fitness center and a lot of the equipment seemed to be out-dated but was in good working condition. Rooms […] were very nice and spacious. Wife called down for extra pillows in the evening, but the desk was short staffed so no one was able to bring the pillows up. Minor detail. Everything was great ALL in ALL. The front desk clerk was the best! After a long drive and getting there at almost 1am, the front desk clerk was so kind and attentive. The next morning we got up at 4 a.m. to go fishing and she had fresh coffee brewing for us and she also had little breakfast bags for us to take on the boat. Our room was clean and comfy. I liked the layout-- spacious, with separate areas for kitchen, "office", and sectional sofa-- even though I'm not a fan of the green-on-green color scheme. There were a few indications of age and wear. For example, chunks of foam were missing from the desk chair, tub fixtures had discolored sealant or glue smears, and […] the beds creaked loudly with the slightest movement. The lumpy duvets are a mystery at every Hampton Inn I've visited. Loved the buffet breakfast, loved the popcorn machine in the lobby, loved the proximity to the beach and aquarium, but had trouble trying to credit this stay to my blue HH travel points account. The hotel staff and the room were great. Our party included 3 and the suite was comfortable for eveyone. The free breakfast was very good with choices for everyone. We also took advantage of the free snacks and coffee offered all weekend. Had an oceanview room and just a few minutes walk across the street to the beach. My stay was fantastic, the hotel is not right on the beach, but very close to it, a short walk across the dunes boardwalk. First, the entire hotel smelled clean and pleasant This is always what I use as a first indicator. Second, I got a two double beds room. I am a very big person and the bed was quite big enough for me. Clean and comfortable, and […] the room was quite large. Two beds, a couch, a business desk, LCD flat screen, a fridge that was already cold (BIG GOLD STAR) a microwave and even a small kitchen sink. Oh, and cabinets where you could store dishes. The included breakfast was nice. Another guest called it a buffet and while this is one of the best breakfast spreads I have seen in a hotel without a cafe, it is not on the level of real buffet resuraunts. You do get a nice variety, hot they had turkey link sausage, scrambled egg, oatmeal and belgian waffles, cold they had yogurt, cereals 4 kinds of juices, and the usual bagels, donuts etc. All in all, the room, the breakfast, even the free USA Today all added up to a very very nice place to stay and it will get my repeat business. The cons: The drain was slow in the tub, I suspect getting clogged from sand, and I would have really liked to see a lower price. Overall, I give this place a top rating Read more

We stayed one night on August 1. The hotel staff were very nice and helpful. We were on the 3rd floor and could see the ocean from our room. The only thing bad about the room is the sink being out in the open with no privacy. The bathroom was very very small. Nice little kitchenette and sitting room but would have been better if the TV was located in […] another spot and further back. It was located on top of a dresser which stuck out and close to the 1st bed in the room. Location was the beach that was across the road and behind other condos with no restrooms or place to wash the sand off. I was driving back home and decided to stay in the outer banks for one night before continuing with my long drive back to NJ. Wanted a hotel by the beach and this one was the only reasonable priced in comparison to others. I drove right by it since its not very visible from the road but once there I was disappointed. The description of the hotel led […] me to believe that it was a beach front but it turns out that it sits on the opposite side of the Salter Path Rd. The road doesn't have proper pedestrian crossing or crosswalk designated points that would make it safer in my opinion. After crossing the road you need to find these public access walkways which if its late has no lights and if you are on your own it may make you feel uncomfortable. After, I asked if the hotel had a bar or a restaurant and was again disappointed by the response; no bar or restaurant. After returning from a drive to a nearby restaurant, I went to the pool but since its family orientated hotel it was somewhat busy with little people which I didn't mind but something to keep in mind if you are a type that wants a big people pool. Overall if you have a family with kids or retired I would think this hotel is fine. Accommodations was fine, the room was clean and met my expectations. As I was leaving the next day I saw that there is a golf course near the hotel, not sure if it has public access but something you may keep in mind if you are looking for it. Read more

Just stayed for a few nights. Clean, staff was really friendly, and there weren't any jerks staying while we were there. Room (king) was really nice all things considered , but the AC really kind of roars. Not bad location either, just cross a (high speed but not terribly trafficked) road and you're on the beach.

The Hampton Inn & Suites-Atlantic Beach is a terrific hotel. Close to the beach, reasonably priced, large rooms, what's not to like? We found only one small problem with it. They serve free popcorn in the lobby during the afternoon. It's a great treat, but too many people abuse the privilege. Even the next morning, there were trails of popcorn kernels […] around the lobby, and even in the elevator. People should pick up after their messes. In the absence of clean-minded guests, however, the hotel is going to have to do a better job of cleaning up after their slovenly guests. Read more
