"Nightmare on Elm street defines my experience"
After checking in was told to wait in their lounge and they would send a person to take me to my room after an hour nothing.....I had checked in post 3 PM so there is no excuse whatsoever for not having availability. As I was being escorted to my room I was told my room had been upgraded thinking they may have sensed I was irritable about the wait […] time. As we neared the room there was the sound of incessant hammering and a plastic drop cloth placed over the door of the so called "upgraded room". I was told oh don't worry they will stop at 5 PM given this was nearly two hours from that point and I had spent a day of travel I was none to pleased. Upon opening the door to the "upgrade room" it was a reflection of my overall experience it was small, a total dump, but at that point I had already prepaid via Expedia and felt I just got bent over and they drove. Would have been better of in one of the local short time hotels that usually facilitates commercial transactions between the opposite sexes, AVOID, AVOID!!!! Did I mention AVOID this place? The staff was excellent, typical of customer service in the Philippines and the all-you-can eat breakfast was great but the location of the hotel left something to be desired. The staff at Best Western La Corona was very professional and courteous above and beyond the call of duty. The Hotel itself was well maintained along with the rooms. "Not worth the cost"
Very negative stay. Hotel is way over priced for the area with much better hotels at much better prices, at half the cost. Prices are elevated for foreign visitors. Room air conditioner was old and very noisey could not get good sound sleep. Hotel lobby flooded during rain storm but street in front did not flood. Very poor building design. "Good Location, Friendly and courteous staff."
Taxis had some problems finding the hotel. Breakfast Buffet was very good. The rest of the meals on the menu were kind of expensive compared to the many other options available within walking distance, but they were tasty and portions were more than adequate. My room was on the 5th floor. Room was very quiet and nicely decorated. Bed was firm but comfortable […] innerspring mattress. The mini fridge comes fully stocked with drinks (water, beers, sodas) and snacks (chips, cookies, chocolate bars), but room comes with DAILY complementary bottled water. Bathroom was kind of snug and its a wet room, so I suggest bringing flip-flops. They supply disposable slippers for the room, electric kettle and the hairdryer was in the desk area. Windows in the bathroom and room do open. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Overall the hotel is very nice. The staff are attentive and polite bringing service with a smile. The hotel is one street down from the main road right next to the water. Consequently, this street is less desirable to walk along, especially by oneself.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

very clean - staff great - breakfast was good - location is fine for me as I go to Manila since 1983 - but family at first were not happy to go out (wife is form Philippines) I took them out and showed them the ropes - but need to be careful - air cons are too small for the size of the room - but that is typical in PI where electricity is the most expensive […] in the world - as long as you get good discount good place to stay Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"courteous, very polite service"
very convenient location, polite service, truly responsive management. Need more lights in the room, however, and these should be better located according to the needs of the occupant. For instance, there's no reading light when one is in bed. "20 day stay..."
The hotel is nice. Rooms are big, especially by Asian standards, but beds are not western style. My king sized bed was more of a box spring than a mattress. I bought a mattress enhancer to use after just the first night so the bed would fell softer than a rock. My room was on the front of the hotel and although on the third floor the street noise was […] quite bad. The staff was extremely polite and tried their best to handle all requests as soon as possible. The restauant was convienent but that is about it. The free breakfast buffet left a lot to be desired. The powered eggs put on the line every morning were extremely underdone. You could order eggs any style but they took a while to get. The overall cost of the food was high enough to put a serious dent in any budget. I tried several dishes even at the higher prices and was disappointed by all but two meals. The Beef Tapa and the Ice Cream Sundea were the only good dishes. The area around the hotel is mostly alleys and not always the safest between 12am and sunrise. As a foreigner if i tired to walk anywhere I was followed and hounded by beggars of all ages and sizes. For the most part they ignored locals but I was more than fair game. As harsh as this sounds DO NOT GIVE ANY MONEY TO ANY BEGGAR. It doesn't matter how much they pull on your heart strings giving money to one only puts an even bigger target on your back. "Be careful when deal with this hotel staff"
First is the price and they are higher than others. Assistance wise they are quite reasonable. Cleanliness is there as they do not clean the room everyday. Toilet choked every time being used and that goes to friends who also stayed there. The is just like bed and breakfast. Do not cater guest needs such as muskin tape, strings simple pen to write. […] The concierge works well with the taxis and charge extras the moment you enter the taxi and normally double the actual fare. Telling guest the amount which about the same what the taxi would charge when boarded. In actual the fare is half or less. Another going the a longer way to get more when on meter. A simple example is hotel to airport 500 peso, 250 peso tax and 50 to 100 peso tips. Total sum 800 to 850 peso. If by taxi on meter is ONLY 142 pesos So tell you the whole story. From airport to hotel I paid 194 peso with a bid of heavy traffic. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"First time in Manila"
The hotel seems to have been renovated recently. It had a Spanish colonial air to it. The newly installed elevator was not working the day we arrived, so we had to "hoof it" up four flights of stairs. The hotel staff, particularly at the front desk, were most helpful and spoke very good English. The breakfast was OK, but I thought the hotel restaurant […] was better for drinks than for food. One good thing the hotel had was cars with driver waiting outside. "Great Value for the Money (no doubt)"
Reading the review caused me to stay here... so hopefully this will help you. I stayed in 5 different places in the Philippines and this was the best. Again, no elevator but the walk up the stairs not bad. The hotel staff would help move baggage with no problem. They did not have hand out for tip either. A "3" in the Philippines is not the same as […] a "3" here in USA. The room was very nice and comfortable. The bathroom was very nice. I loved the shower. Oh, don't use anything in the room unless prepared to pay for it (bathroom stuff, refrigerator, etc.). I learned hard way. After you check out, they send staff up there to add up what you used; it is then taken out of the deposit. I almost felt that the purpose of the deposit is to get you to spend more. The room was very nice. The beds are different but okay. The room cooled off quickly. There was a table or desk against the wall which was nice for internet use. I-net was free. Another place was 100 pesos. The breakfast (included) was outstanding. In fact, I almost went back to the hotel for this reason. It is so nice starting off the morning with a great breakfast. Location to several currency exchanges was good. The area is a little "seedy". I walked out of the exchange and there was a little boy (3-5) being bathed there. He was brushing his teeth and spit on my shoe. It made me sad to see so many things like that. The room was great. Hotel staff .. great. If I went back to Manila tomorrow.. I'd stay here again. The hotel has been going through a renovation for a while now and is almost complete. I loved it before and it is even nicer now. "Manila is fun city!!"
Before my wife and I have chosen Best Western Hotel La Corona Manila, we went back and forth reading reviews from others who have stayed there. We arrived Feb 17th, at 12:30 AM, and the elevator was still out of commission due to renovation. However, we did not meet any problem at all because, the hotel provided porters to carry our luggage into our […] room. We were satisfied from the very beginning. Morning breakfast is great, the food attendants were very courteous, even their trainees were good. Despite of some negative comments from the previous customers, we didn't find the hotel negligent of our needs. They are always attentive to our needs. Questions pertaining to the surroundings were answered diligently and was very helpful in giving us tips about travel to other locations. Daily newspaper is available, need a taxi, they will get one for you. Need breakfast deliver to your room, you will get. Need additional towel, they will provide. Of course, the hotel location is not like Waldorf Astoria like New York. The poverty and seedy environment didn't bother us at all. We walked around and familiarize ourselves and found the place with friendly people. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We stayed here our last night in Manila. The room was clean, internet was fast and location was OK. "Excellent Customer Service and Comfortable rooms."
The only thing that I didn't quite like about the hotel is the lack of elevator. Otherwise, cleanliness, comfort and customer service is EXCELLENT. Very well mannered, and very helpful staff. They allowed us to leave our baggage earlier than the check in time, since we arrived in Manila early in the morning. They might not have the elevator, but it […] was compensated by staff who assisted us with bringing our baggage to our room on the 4th floor. Breakfast was good, and waiters during our meals were very good. Left a small amount of tip on our table during our first day, but cleaning people didn't get it until the second day when we left a note that the money was meant to be a tip. I would recommend this hotel to anybody, if elevators are not an issue (esp. for differently abled people, where ambulation is an issue); and I would go back to this hotel should I be going around this area of Manila. "Good hotel in a not so good area"
I stayed here twice in the past year, both times to catch the nearby SiKat bus to the ferry for the dive resorts of Puerto Galera. The hotel itself is clean and tastefully decorated. The free breakfast was quite good and the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The elevator is currently under renovation until February and disabled guests will […] have a hard time getting to the upper floors. If you have a guest visit you they must check out at the desk when you leave. The desk will then call you to make sure that everything is okay. The problem with the hotel is that it is in Ermita, a seedy area. I felt very safe in the hotel, but I did not feel comfortable going out at night in the area around the place. That being said, if you have business in Ermita this would be the place to stay - it's a great value. "Renovation not yet complete... Problematic!"
The hotel was shut down for a large part of 2011 for renovation and is now open again... perhaps prematurely. We were assigned a room on the fifth floor, and then told we had to use the stairs because the elevator would not be back in service until sometime in 2012. I am certainly in need of all the exercise I can get, so I didn't balk, although I am […] sure the desk clerk could see the surprise on my face. During our 4-day stay, the fire alarm went off twice, once very early in the morning which really ruined a peaceful night's rest. On a different night, my wife and I woke up to some overpowering lacquer fumes. It turns out they were doing some finish work in the hallways. We had to open our window and turn the AC on high to get the air breathable enough to get back to sleep. We also had to endure the vibration and sound of heavy concrete drilling on a couple of occasions during the daylight hours. Otherwise, the staff was professional, friendly and helpful. The neighborhood is going downhill since our previous stay in February 2011. Lots of street people, beggars, and hoodlum teens that gang up on tourists and then empty their pockets. We were able to fend off one attempted attack on the BayWalk, but the tourists several meters in front of us were victimized in front of our very eyes. We were able to flag down a passing police car during the robbery, and the hoodlums dispersed and fled. It is not likely we will stay at the BestWestern LaCorona in the near future.
