"great deal for your money"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 2, 2012
Fantastic deal for your money. The confirmation from hotels.com said that our room had ocean, pool and garden view.... it didn't. The view was just trees. We had booked a king size bed but got 2 queens instead so that was disappointing but over all a great place. Men need to bring long pants if you're planning on eating in the a'la cart restaurants. The buffets are great, a'la cart is ok.

Still small enough to explore on foot, Playa del Carmen has a relaxed, yet cosmopolitan feel, with a variety of hotels, shops, and restaurants ranging from causal to upscale. European-style sunbathing is common on beaches. Playa is a popular jumping-off point for day trips to Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Tulum, and other peninsula attractions, and a passenger ferry makes frequent runs to Cozumel.

This was my first all-inclusive stay and was happy with the hotel. The buffet was average but the dinner was very good in the nicer resturaunts. The service was excellent. They were very nice and spoke multiple languages. If you like moderately priced all-inclusive hotels I would recommend the hotel. It was a 5-7 minute cab ride to 5th street where […] a lot of the stores, restruants, and night life are located. If you are interested in good mexican food ask the cab driver to take you 2-3 blocks from 5th street. You will find inexpensive authentic food. Read more
"All inclusive NOT WORTH IT!!"
The hotel and rooms looks nice and are well maintained, but it is on a small sliver of beach so no one has a view of the ocean from their room. More importantly, the "all inclusive" is a rip off...don't get it! The food is not that great and there is no service anywhere...if you want to eat you have to go to a buffet or a fast food-like joint. No will […] bring food to your beach chair, poolside or even to your room....there is no room service! Also, if you get the all inclusive for the drinks, they make you chase around a constantly rotating and changing bar locations. One opens and closes in three hours and then the one in th lobby opens and then that is closed so now you have to figure out where to go next. We ate out. Read more
"TERRIBLE FOOD AND A CROWDED CITY"
We stayed here the week of Thanksgiving and booked a 9 nite stay and checked out early 5 nites early.... Although the grounds are nice, well maintained (Mexican's are very hard workers) our stay was terrible! The room was so-so, no view, very dark and it had some water damage in the bathroom. The hotel itself had a very small parking lot which sucked […] if you had a rental car because there is no place to park it when the lot is full. The atmosphere was so-so, the pools were freezing, the bars were always out of bottled water. PS. some one should get a water tank and use plastic cups to refill (just us alone probably went through over 50 plastic water bottles, just to stay hydrated!) There was no place to get water even in the dining room and it was hard to get a glass of water, which sucks when you are in extreme heat and don't want to drink booze all day. Overall, the food was terrible! NOTHING HAD ANY FLAVOR! Breakfast was the only thing that was good. (We had french toast and sometimes they had hash browns/potatos and fresh fruit) Thank god for this, so were able to get one decent meal a day...Lunch was usually a variety of some mexican, italian and odd ball selections. The food was taste-less and lack luster, even the desserts!! They had a pasta bar and the tomato sauce was so-so, but the alfredo sauce had no flavor. It was like white blah liquid on your pasta! The mexican choices sucked, which is bad since its MEXICO!! They were usually pre-made food sitting under heat lamps... sides were like broccoli and cauliflower in a mystery "cheese" sauce, again disgusting! The chicken and beef selections in marinated "sauces" were so-so...The salad bar sucked- all the dressing were weird. For example, the Ranch dressing was like sour vinagrette and the Thousand Island was equally bad. The desserts were the same- flavorless. The Cheese Cake looked like Cheesecake, but had no flavor. The snack bar offered school cafeteria pizza and nachos...the pizza was so bad the cheese w Read more
"Playacar Reef :("
We chose this hotel because of it's location, size (not a MEGA resort) and at the recommendation of someone who had stayed there repeatedly, albeit years ago. Our main criteria was that it was close to PDC and that it had a tennis court. We were very disappointed. The property has potential, but it is really looking run down and in some cases, in disrepair. […] SOME of our issues: Upon arrival to room, AC unit sounded like a jet engine with something stuck in it. Seriously, we couldn't have a conversation in the room. Called the desk and repairman came with arsenal of tools and tape, eventually rendering it "acceptable". No hair dryer in room--called front desk and told one would be delivered--after twice being assured, went to the desk and waited until we had one in our hand. Tennis court was out of order--in some phase of being redone. Buffet restaurant food --mediocre, specialty restaurant, Italian was by far better. Staff seemed less than thrilled to fulfill requests and some were downright surly. The gym was well equipped and while it's unique to have trees growing through the roof, when it rained --surprise, surprise...flooring was soaked. Can you say MOLD? We stayed 3 nights and it was 2 too many. Read more

Excelente relación precio calidad Read more

"Reef playacar: bien ubicado, habitaciones pequeñas"
excelente playa, muy malos los horarios de servicio para comida, por varias horas solo hay "snacks" de mala calidad, el servicio es malo. No hay meseros ni en albercas, ni playa. Algunos "bartenders" piensan que te hacen un favor atendiendote. Dos veces fallo el Aire Acondicionado de la habitacion y fue reparado con prontitud.
"EXCELENTE HOTEL, EXCELENTE SERVICIO, SUPER AMABLES"
HE ESTADO EN VARIOS HOTELES DE PLAYACAR Y ESTE ES PARA MI EL MEJOR, NO HAY LUJOS PERO EL PERSONAL ES MUY AMABLE TRATAN A LOS MEXICANOS MUY BIEN, COSA QUE NO VES EN OTROS HOTELES, QUE SIEMPRE HACEN DIFERENCIAS POR LA GENTE RUBIA DE OJOS AZULES, LO RECOMIENDO AMPLIAMENTE Y SOBRE TODO QUE NO ES COMO ESOS HOTEAZOS DE SUPER LUJO, QUE TIENES CASI QUE TOMAR […] UN CAMION PARA LLEGAR A LA PLAYA, RESTAURANT U OTRO LUGAR DENTRO DEL MISMO HOTEL, LA VERDAD ES EXCELENTE. LO UNICO QUE ALOMEJOR SE PODRIA MEJORAR ES PONER ALGUN TIPO DE DESHUMIDIFICADOR EN LAS HABITACIONES, PERO ESTO YO LO SOLUCIONE CON UN POCO DE AROMATIZANTE Y LISTO !!! TAMPOCO ME HA GUSTADO SER UN HUESPED EXIGENTE. Y LO REPITO, LO RECOMIENDO AMPLIAMENTE. Read more

"Hotell Reef Playacar"
Reef Playacar var en fin upplevelse. Ingen överdådig lyx men allt man vill ha och behöver. God mat och god service.
"Above average hotel and service"
If you pass the reception desk which is attended to by confused and unhelpful employees then you will have a good time.
"The Reef. Vegetación Exhuberante"
Excelente ubicación, la vegetación está increíble, las habitaciones cómodas, pero el servicio regular
"Excelente ubicación y servicio"
Las instalaciones, ubicación del hotel, comidas y especialmente la calidez y vocación de servicio del personal fueron inmejorables. Como decimos los costarricenses, la pasamos "PURA VIDA"
