This resort is a great value. The staff was amazing and the location was the best. You can not get any closer to the beach. Rooms are clean and the beds are great. My only suggestion would be better access to wifi. All inclusive should include wifi. There is service for additional but for only one device. Arrived at the hotel at one, but check in isn't until 3. Instead of offering a hospitality room, we are inundated with sales people trying to get us to go to their time share. Finally get a room about 3:15, but unfortunately it wasn't cleaned, sheets still a mess, water bottles all over and I am not certain if the previous guests were actually still […] checked in. "Can't get any closer to the beach"
First off, we enjoyed our stay. My husband is a diver, and the diving through the hotel - Dive House - was exceptional. They are close to all the reefs, so it takes no time on the boat to get almost everywhere. From that perspective, the hotel couldn't be better situated. The rooms are ordinary, but clean and comfortable. We were only steps to the water. The […] people at the hotel are friendly and helpful, but there's definitely an element of manana working - maid service was sketchy (never knew what would be in the room and what would be forgotten - spent some time chasing maid carts around in search of soap and towels). The waiters in the restaurants were sometimes overwhelmed - they eventually got everything you asked for, but patience was in order. The food was all fresh and well prepared, nothing fancy, especially at the frequent buffets (the restaurants are closed down about every third night, and there is a buffet around the main pool). The food at El Patio restaurant was very good, and on nights they had a menu at the Seaside Grill, also very good. One other problem - not enough shade around the pools and not enough lounge chairs at the beach. If you didn't claim a corner of shade and a couple of lounge chairs by 9 AM, you were probably out of luck until late in the afternoon. "Nice and not overly crowded"
The room was very comfortable. Love that they now have small refrigerators and drinks in the room. This was our third trip to Sunscape. We have always loved the snorkeling there and the small crowds on the beach. The food is still pretty good as well. We did notice a decline in the facilities (need of paint mostly) of the resort and an occasional sewage […] smell when walking outside, but we would go again. I had packed several of my favorite earrings and necklaces in my checked luggage that was stolen on the trip back. I'm not sure if it was stolen in Cozumel or Dallas though. We were warned at DFW that camera's get stolen often if left in checked luggage and that we should carry it on the plane. Wish we'd have done the same with my jewelry. In regards to Expedia - we were not informed that the "All Inclusive" price did not include a shuttle to the resort. Right when we arrived, we were greeted by friendly staff with a cold towel and a glass of wine. Check in was at 3 and we arrived shortly after 1. When we checked in the lady at the desk was rude and impatient with us. She mentioned that she would give us a pass phrase for the Wi-fi and then didn't. Later we asked a different person at the front desk for the pass phrase for the "Free Wi-Fi" that was listed in their info. "Change is not always good."
We have been staying here for about 5 years and there have been a lot of changes.I really dislike the timeshare people bugging us when we are walking around the resort. I hate trying to dodge them as it kind of ruins a good time. We stayed here in December 2013 , March and June 2014. Part of the motel which had a huge breakfast area (that we loved) […] that now is now part of Secrets. Then in March they had breakfast in 2 places( portofino and the seaside) , now only 1 place the Portofino. Which was super crowded at night, we just gave up got up and left and went to Albertos. We went to the pizza place at noon and it took about 45 minutes for a pizza and we had to go in and order it and then ordered a salad with it that never came. The employees that are working there are really good and doing a good job but they need more room in the resturant and more employees. The food is edible. The management may want to consider doing ths same thing that they do at some other resturants which was making a place for the left over food to feed the birds away from the resturant but where they can be seen by guests. "Not the resort you saw advertised"
As we drove in it looked like it was the back entrance to the resort, work cars and maintenance buildings is the first thing you see besides the gate with a security person. They were nice enough to listen to our request for a room away from the main pool and restaurant. But the room we received was anything but three star. The air conditioner worked […] for part of the time, the room was so damp it had spots of mold here and there, the couch/bed was broke and couldn't be sat on, the ventilation in the bathroom didn't work, when we took a shower the water would run out of the bathroom into the hall. The water pressure was great, but the shower head they had on it, caused the water to feel like you were being hit with small rocks, several light bulbs were out in the bathroom and sleeping area, I can over look the sloppy tile repair work on the shower, but standing water all day was terrible. They advertise three restaurants but not really, they rotate which ones will be open in the evening and they serve the exact same menu every night, so you had better like what they have, The advertisement for the Sabor Sunscape said had free Wi-Fi, but we had to pay for internet. "Sunscape Sabor Cozumel Resort"
When we checked in the hotel staff was pleasant and accommodating. We then found out that the resort had split into two resorts. One was the Sunscape Sabor and the other half was a Secrets Resort. This was our third time at the resort and it had completely changed when it split into two resorts. We were not allowed to go into the Secrets Resort to dine […] or walk around. They were remodeling the Secrets Resort side and putting all their time and money on that resort. The Sunscape Sabor Resort side had little if any remodeling or upkeep from last year. Since they split the resort all the best restaurants were on the Secrets side. The Sunscape Sabor side only had two restaurants and a seaside grill. The food was not that good and there was no variety. The same food served every day. It was not what we were expecting and we would not recommend this resort for a vacation. "Needed plenty of work."
I know that its fairly new to Secrets Resorts but they still have a lot of work to do. Switched rooms but that was on me for my comfort, but the new room was missing most of the amenities. We had to request a hair dryer 3 times and a stopper for the bath tub all week which was never brought. Both building were too close to the sewer plant and stunk […] the whole time. The staff was nice but when you take the offer to see their presentation, they give you coupons and supposedly free things that are all but free. You still had to pay for anything you wanted to do and pretty much what you paid would have covered the event at full price. I have been to Cozumel a dozen or so times over the past 30 years and by far this was the most disappointing of all. Our experience at Sunscape Sabor was fantastic! The people were great, the facilities were nice...not great or fancy but very nice! It's about 10-15 minutes from airport is in a great location. The hotel is fully fenced in and a gate attendent must let you in and out of the facility while confirming who you are by your room number so it's very safe! […] You can snorkel right on the beach and the pool bar is right there for your convenience. The room was great and we were upgraded to a studio when we arrived so we had a 3rd floor poolside room. The room looked over the pool and the ocean at the same time. The food at the hotel was good but not great. A lot of the same stuff is served day to day but they do it well. That would be the only thing I suggest as something that could be improved a bit. However, the reviews that describe this place as an awful moldy dungeon and say you shouldn't stay here are completey ludicrous. Like I said, this place is nice but not great. A perfect stay for non-high maintenance people. You'll be satisfied with this place but if you're looking for a bit of a nicer stay "Secrets" is the resort right next door that has the same owner. "Major changes since last visit and very disappoint"

This year we stayed at the new Sunscapes Sabor and were very disappointed to see they had sold off half of the resort to make Secrets. Along with half the rooms they also took all of the good restaurants. THE FOOD WAS HORRIBLE. We ate the same thing again and again and […] again. Also there was no wifi. My husband and I stayed at Sabor last year (2013) and while it was probably an average resort, the staff was great and the place fun. We decided to go back again this year. What a disappointment! The staff has been cut back quite a bit, the waiters seemed overworked, for sure not enough staff. The guy at the reception desk that checked us in was down […] right rude. We thought that as a returning guest, we should get at least the same quality room as we had last year. Not only were we not upgraded, we were put in the "garden view" which was the room furthest back; our view was the warehouse/parking lot. It was noisy, dirty, ladders laying by the sidewalk chained to a fence. One restaurant that we enjoyed going to last year was closed off to Sabor guests and given to the resort next door. One of the only bright spots at this resort was a bartender at a tiki bar, Wilbert, who went above and beyond making guests feel special. Wilbert is a great asset to Sabor. Except for the reception desk guy, the staff tried to be as helpful as possible but was unstaffed. Sometimes our rooms were cleaned, sometimes, no towels, no kleenex, we never knew what to expect. Last year we recommended this resort but not this year. We never feel like we need elegant surroundings, etc but we feel this resort was a major disappointment and should NOT be rated a 3.5 but rather a 2. Over all it was a great experience. Staff is nice and aims to please. Location is beautiful and we had a blast snorkeling right off the beach. I read a lot of the reviews before we left and we were prepared for the worst and was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. I think that if you are the type of person who's negative, picky and hard to please […] you should go elsewhere or just not vacation for that matter. Those seem to be the type of people writing the bad reviews. My husband and I and the couple we came with were all easy going and made the most of it. All we needed was a beach, clean and comfortable room and all the booze we could drink and we got all of that. The bartenders are so hard working and sadly I saw that not many people tip them. If more tourists got out and about around the island past the tourist spots you'd see how much poverty there is there and might actually tip a buck every now and then. Yet even though they don't get paid much they are hopping and smiling and do an excellent job! Only complaint I have is the food but from what I hear that's fairly common with all inclusive. A suggestion for the resort......improve the food and also the dress code at restaurants for dinner is silly. I totally understand the no bathing suits but seriously no tank tops for the guys? My husband and I stood in line for 30 min to be seated then told my husband could not enter because he was in a tank top yet you looked around and saw 4 women wearing tanks. It's silly! "Check your facts before booking!"
This is no longer adults only, as stated in the Expedia listing. The property has been divided and now "Secrets" is the adult place. The food was mediocre and, aside from dinner some nights at one restaurant, is served buffet-style (but you could get hamburgers, frozen pizza, hot dogs, and nachos with "squirt cheese" any time). WIFI WAS VIRTUALLY NON-EXISTANT, […] spotty availability in the lobby area only. Drinks are weak and only cheaper knock-off brand liqueur is available. Room was not ready as promised. Rarely were pool or beach chairs available. Guests will get up early and throw a towel across several chairs which are now "theirs". They might not use them for hours, but you never know. In the meantime, there are no clean beach/pool towels to be had! I did consider changing to Secrets, but they had no ocean-front rooms available and, from talking with other guests, food and WIFI were issues there as well, and the atmosphere was party-intensive. Even with the kids there, by 3 or 4 PM, there were a lot of drunks on the beach! If you are a single woman traveling alone or with other women, beware. This "demographic" is currently being targeted for time-share/vacation club. I came alone, but was joined a few days later by a friend who was African American. Clean resort with friendly staff and good snorkeling off the beach. The food was good but lacked variety. Enjoyed the fresh fruit every day though! Check-in and check-out was quick and w/o any issues. Pools were warm but towels were sometimes hard to find as they were always running out. Rooms were adequate and stocked with plenty of towels and beverages. […] The Wi-Fi was terrible but not a huge deal as we survived the week without it. Overall our experience was good. "I don't know what was more disappointing."
Upon arrival to Sunscape Sabor I was very excited. The staff was very nice and excited to greet us. This was a great first impression. Then we learned that our room was not yet ready, although it was 2 hours after check in time. So, we decided to get something to eat at the restaurant. When we learned the lunch options were stale chips covered in cheese […] sauce or a burger that sits out in the heat ALL DAY we were very disappointed. Once we finally reached our room it was no where near the beach, smelt like a sewer and had 2 double beds instead of the King listed on my reservation. When I asked for a different room the hotel staff said that rooms were given out upon availability at the time of your arrival and all the rooms with king size beds were all booked for guests coming in in a couple of days. Is it just me or does that comment completely contradict it's self? There was a severe lack of entertainment and the food was just ok. When I booked my trip the resort advertised a swim up bar and a formal restaurant. These amenities were sold off to the resort next door after my trip was booked and before I arrived. We were not permitted to use the amenities next door, although they brought guests from that resort to Sunscape Sabor AND let them in resort restaurants ahead of resort guests The only thing I liked about the resort (besides the weather) were the bartenders and waiters. "Sunscape Sabor needs some TLC."
My first impression of the hotel was terrible. We had to wait until 4:30 to be checked into our room. The room had two double beds instead of a king, no toilet paper, no shampoo and no tissues. Complained to the front desk staff and eventually got toilet paper and shampoo. Told they didn't have tissues and they couldn't give us a king bed. Upgrade to […] a junior suite the next day which had tissues. Beautiful room which needed some repairs. The safe didn't work on the first day and the air conditioner didn't work on second day. Both complaints were dealt with immediately. The furniture was ripped and the tables were stained. We were told that the new owners were fixing the sister hotel ( Secrets) first and then would fix Sunscape. The food was adequate but plentiful. We didn't go hungry:-) The wait staff and housekeeping staff were friendly and hard working so I continued to wonder why it took so long to get things done ( Mexican time seems to be different than American time). I believe the hotel was understaffed and ill managed. I also believe that these two areas can easily be addressed and can make a considerable difference to the hotel's visitors.
