"Great place to stay."
Suites are amazing. They were large, clean and comfortable. Staff was wonderful. Food was just ok, nothing exceptional but nothing to complain about either. Beach was great, room was right off the beach. Pools were clean. Our entire group had a wonderful time.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Will never go to Sunscape Sabor again."
This hotel/resort was not as advertised. I understand that I was there during the off season, however, most of the facilities were closed all the time. The website advertised three restaurants (one with a buffet) and a snack bar available. Only two restaurants were open while I was there and that was on alternate nights. It also advertised three bars […] with one being a swim up bar. Only one bar was open at a time and the swim up bar was never open the entire time there. Outrageously pushy time-share sales from the staff the entire time I was there. The staff promised discounts on excursions if you attended the presentation, but the prices they offered were greatly over inflated. I was able to rent a jeep for 24 hours for well below half what they stated was available after their discount. Their staff will lie at all cost to make a sale. I will not be returning to Sunscape Sabor again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The stay was good, and I thoroughly enjoyed the staff! So friendly and welcoming. And the hotel had beautiful views, while in the pool you could look at the scenic blue waters of the sea and the sunsetting. Great staff, especially one server named German in the hotels' café. I definitely wanted to give him accolades for his quality job in making sure […] that he customer was satisfied. He was wonderful. But, overall the hotel was nice and the food in certain cafes was nice too. I recommend the café that offers all three meals throughout the day. I don't remember the name of it, but it is right by the main pool. Of course you do not go to Mexico for pizza, so I do not recommend eating at their pizza spot inside the hotel. It is a no brainer that the pizza place would not be that spot on if you know what I mean. Eat more cultural food if anything, you are not in Italy. But unlimited food and beverages was fantastic. The bars were nice and yes!, unlimited delicious alcoholic beverages, They even have one really nice pool bar. I enjoyed myself, you will too! But if you are going to Cozumel..explore!!! do not stay at the hotel all day. Yes, I was guilty of that. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel, I hope the food is better in season."
I have stayed at this hotel twice before. The food was MUCH better the first two times. There was only one bar (if that) and one restaurant open at a time. August is slow in Cozumel and apparently very slow at this hotel. The rate I paid didn't reflect the reduced offerings.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not what I expected"
The hotel property was clean though in need of an overall upgrade. The rooms are not up to a 3 1/2 star standard. Amenities are lacking. No room service and the food options were very limited. The restaurant quality of food was not good. Service quality was not up to standard and can improve. The location amazingly peaceful and indeed an escape though […] amenities were lacking tremendously and can be upgraded to include more variety and increased availability. Disappointed. "Could not have asked for more!"
We has a fantastic time at this resort! We got the exact room we booked and it was better then we could have asked for- it was the Ocean Front on the ground floor. The beach was directly outside our patio door! The beach was gorgeous, sand was a little rough due to shells and rocks but we bought water shoes and that "issue" was resolved. The hotel […] can't tell the ocean to not bring in the rocks and shells so for some people to blame the resort for that is pretty ridiculous. The snorkeling was also great! The food was better this time then the last time were there in 2010 when it was a Wyndham, so that was a pleasant surprise. It was a very slow week, so the buffet area ended up closing down and only the restaurants were open. No big deal. We just figured out which one and went there. We tipped a dollar a drink and a few dollars for the buffet service. We left $10 when they took our order for each course. The service was phenomenal. They were friendly and we never needed a thing. My guess is you weren't tipping if you are complaining about the staff. We never missed a tip, and never had a bad experience. Cozumel is beautiful, and I recommend renting a scooter and leaving the resort, going to the right. All the way down to Punta Sur there is a Jamaican bar. It's perfection! Ask for the peanut butter tequila! Before the Jamaican bar is Playa Palancar. Great food and drinks and the beach is to die for. All in all, I got what I paid for and more. Loved every minute! "Hotel OK, beach not so nice!"
Hotel room was clean and the grounds were very well kept. Food was good but became very repetative after six days of the same thing! The staff is very nice and accomodating. Just beware of the time share push the minute you walk off the plane, it starts with the rental cars and continues to the hotel where they offer discounts on excursions if you will […] just "listen" to a 90 min presentation...very annoying!! My only real complaint about this hotel is that beach was rocky and the water was not pretty. There was a lot of seaweed and we had to swim about 120 feet out before the water was crystal clear and blue. There were not any hurricanes or turbulance, so the water is like that all the time. I was extremely disappointed because I had picked this hotel specifically because of prior reviews that said beautiful beach and water!! The resort was not overly crowded and it was never hard to get a beach or pool chair for all 6 of us that traveled together. The kids club was wonderful for our 7 yr old, he loved it! Never had to wait to sit for dinner, even at the speciality restaurants. I just wish they could fix the beach!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The resort reflects the price. It is a budget resort in a great location. The furniture in our room was tired and worn out. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint. The tiling was of poor craftmenship. On the positive side, the bedding was comfortable, good thread count, crisp & clean. The location of our room was fantastic, a mere 30 yards from the […] ocean. Food was ok. The buffet was repetitive , it was "pork month", everything had pork in it. I dont like pork. The pizza was good, the mexican restaurant was good. Italian restaurant no so good. The mixed drinks were very sweet, not fresh, store bought mixers that were more like syrups. Great snorkeling right off the beach. Long beach to take walks. Bring water shoes the beach is rocky. "Family oriented all inclusive resort on the beach"
My boyfriend and I vacationed here with 2 other couples at the end of July. It's my understanding that the resort was recently acquired by Sunscape and is slowly being updated. We all stayed in the same villa, but our friend's room was one of the renovated rooms (new remodeled bathroom) where ours had not yet received its transformation (old scratched […] up bathtub). However, our room was very clean and housekeeping did a great job spiffing it up on a daily basis. The staff was extremely friendly and was highly attentive. We loved Franklin, the pool bartender. He hooked us up and would already have another drink coming before we finished our current ones. I wish we had brought more $1 singles with us to tip the staff that really went out of their way to please us. The food was pretty good for an all inclusive. There were two fancier restaurants that did not require reservations – El Patio (Mexican) and Portofino (Italian). There was a constant rotation of only one being open for dinner so check the schedule before heading to the restaurants. The majority of the time we ate at Market Cafe's buffet. It had a large selection and was quick and easy. Occasionally we'd grab a snack from Seaside Grill which is full of greasy junk food (french fries, nachos, hot dogs, burgers). The nacho cheese was a processed yellow liquid, but sometimes it seemed like a good idea after hours on the beach. Overall, we had a blast. Would've liked the activity board to remain more up-to-date. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Our second visit in 16 months"
This was our second visit to the Sabor in 16 months. We really liked the hotel and staff on the first visit and chose to stay there again. The hotel has changed ownership and is now "family friendly". We liked it better as adult only! We arrived on July 20 and departed on the 28th. We were told that it was their "slow season" but were not given the […] room type we reserved. When we asked for a change, we were told the hotel was full and then later told that it would cost us significantly more to upgrade, we only wanted the room type we originally booked. Many "locals" and other "mainland" families were booked at the hotel during this time period and their were given exceptional treatment and special accommodations made for them. The food was average in quality and taste. The Portofina meals were better than the others but only open certain days. Dive Palancar is no longer at the Sabor. They were displaced the week prior to our arrival. The Dive House company that replaced them is overpriced and underwhelming. Although they claim to not be in the timeshare business, they will ask you to tour and buy the "vacation packages" that they offer next door. Also, the hotel will be undergoing "major renovations" over the next few months/years, per several staff members so be prepared for construction noise and mess. It saddens me terribly that the condition and atmosphere has changed so much, in such a short time. We will be staying elsewhere when we return to Cozumel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great beach area & good for families!"
Overall good experience. We came with kids (12 & 8). Room was small but we don't spend that much time there. Bathroom was very small and toilet leaked but they did fix on 2nd day. We had to request more towels daily and never got wash clothes until 3rd day. AC was cold so that was a plus! Plenty to do as well. Breakfast was good and other food was decent […] but got old by the end. Great bar and bartenders. I think it was great for kids and affordable. Definitely middle of the road as far as ratings. "Excellent staff and Views"
We had a wonderful time. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We took advantage of snorkeling, kayaking, sailing, bike tour to some Mayan ruins, Spanish classes, swimming pool, water aerobics, and, oh yeah, all the alcohol and food you care to eat and drink. The other guests were very friendly also. We would go out in the morning and sit in chairs […] on the beach and talk to each other while watching the spectacular views. Pelicans were flying over and would dive into the water. We would watch the boats drive float by and there were people on jet skis and parasailing. You are on Mexican time. The market cafe was terrible. The staff allows birds to fly around while people are eating. "Wonderful resort with great amenities."
Sunscape Sabor Cozumel was a wonderful experience for my husband and my 5 year anniversary. It is a wonderful location not too close to the city, and is actually much larger and more established than I expected. Everything is very clean, our room was comfortable, great water activities, fun evening activities, and there was a great selection for food. […] Two restaurants were very nice with the same menu each night: Portofino and El Patio. The Seaside Grill was open almost all day with the usual nachos, quesadillas, burgers, etc. Da Marios was a good change of pace with traditional Italian pizza and a casual atmosphere. However, we always preferred the Market Cafe. This is the buffet open for all meals and it changes with good variety every day. Oh, and the margaritas at this resort are AMAZING! South side resort. A little ways to downtown, beach is not the best, under staffed, 20.-25 minute wait for dinner, not a very good selection of food choices, food would run out, entertainment staff could do a better job at getting the word out on the nightly entertainment that could use help as well, fridge was never stocked, unless we called. "Lovely place, lovely time"
Sunscape offers well landscaped and maintained grounds, an attractive and colorful setting right on the beach. Facilities are somewhat dated, but adequate and comfortable. Three pools offer guests different relaxation options--quiet, splashy and social and highly lubricated. Dining options are good, though over two weeks of our stay became a little […] stagnant. But breakfast was outstanding, especially omelet station. Seaside Grill on nights it was open offered our favorite dinner meals. Italian and Mexican restaurants were fine, though portions small. Pizza place was a jewel. Alcohol was free flowing; my wife and I don't drink alcohol so we can't judge but heard no complaints. Staff were outstanding. Luis and April with entertainment crew were our faves, always cheerful and energized. Ismael was my personal favorite as a morning waiter, but all of them were ever present with their coffee containers and upbeat attitude. The dinner wait staff was also pleasant and efficient. Front desk staff were helpful, immediately responsive. When our a/c broke, we were moved to a new room within a couple hours. I enjoy snorkeling, one of the main reason we chose Cozumel, and it didn't disappoint. My wife and I went SCUBA diving for first time and are hooked now. I went deep sea fishing for second time in my life and caught a 40 pound wahoo, which Chef Abraham prepared for us in a garlic sauce for dinner that evening. What a memorable day and night--and vacation. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not the best facility for the money"
I have been many places in cozumel and I will not go back here. The kids club and dive shop were great! I was pretty much disappointed in the rest. There was no room service which made it annoying to walk all the way accross the resort for every meal with kids. Our room air conditioner (swamp cooler) leaked and made the room damp the whole time. I was […] constantly having to call to get more drinks in the fridge. They would put a water and a few cokes for a family. I had to check with the lobby everyday to see what restaurants would be open and what activites were going on. Again annoying with children in tow. Just not pleased for the money I spent. "Staff great, hotel disappointing."
If you've been to really great all inclusive resorts (ie in riviera maya or playa del Carmen) then I would honestly recommend not booking this one. It was not horrible but it was pretty much disappointing. The staff was great (except at the restaurants we had to wait at least 2 hours to get our food). The buffet selection was extremely minimal! The […] drinks were okay but served in 8oz cups, they looked very tacky and you could finish a drink in a couple minutes. We booked a regular tropical view room and had to upgrade to a suite bc the rooms were so tiny and not at all updated. The suite was actually like a regular room at nicer all inclusives. The room was kept very clean throughout the week but we made sure to tip the housekeeping everyday. The water did smell a bit like some of the previous reviews stated. There were basically no nightly shows (prob due to it being off season) but that was very disappointing because there wasn't much to do after dinner. We went into town one night and took a ferry over to playa, which made the trip much better. The currency exchange was not open at all during our stay and the staff didnt have enough to break our money into small bills to tip so I would recommend doing that before if you stay here. The beach was not at all what I expected, very rocky and the sand is not soft at all. Compared to playa this beach was nothing. I would personally not stay here again, instead pay a bit more and get a much better resort in a better location. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The new management has improved the property. Definitely nicer than on our three previous stays. Face it, this is not five star, but good value for money if you are on a budget. "An old property that is suitable for budget minded"
Overall, this is not a bad place if you keep it in the right context. It is old property. It is a bit tired and run down, but acceptable. The location on the island is nice and it makes a perfectly fine base to eat drink and be merry. We stayed a week and I'm glad I had a car to go out and do some other "stuff" as the food got a bit monotonous. It's […] not that the food was bad, some was and some wasn't. We were there in the low season and it was not crowded, which was good, but the restaurant schedule was a bit erratic. The buffet was always available, but the better restaurants were often not operated, which was irritating. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
My family and I (husband and 2 grown daughters) stayed at this resort the week of June 1-9. As we arrived, so did a tropical storm. The staff worked tirelessly to keep the walkways dry and the guests satisfied. When the storm ended, the resort staff wasted no time getting back to their normally scheduled activities. When I booked this resort, I took […] a gamble. The reviews from February and March were not great. I am pleased to say that the resort was clean, well-kept, the staff was more than amazing. Our room was clean. Yes, the bathroom could use updating, but what was there worked fine - good water pressure, plenty of hot water. The food was excellent. "Wouldn't go back"
First of, i read the previous bad reviews and figured the people were being overdramtic. But no, you def get what you pay for. The rooms were tiny and the housekeeping was slow. It was impossible to eat because the restaurants were always closed! We ate quesidillas from the snack bar the whole time. It was POURING rain and they did not even have umbrellas. […] The employees(except the bartenders) seemed annoyed anytime you asked for anything. We used pool towels to cover ourselves since there were no umbrellas and the pool towel guy acted like I was completely wasting his time asking for a dry towel. The food taste was okay overall. The snorkeling was wonderful, but other than that it is understaffed and not enough to do to keep anyone entertained. Wouldn't be back Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Keep it a vacation. Avoid timeshare hard sell."
They were really pushy about selling timeshare. They called room every morning to "remind" us to attend. When i told them no after the site walk, I was verbally abused. "Great beach, ok food, stiff pillows/bed, bad music"
The beaches were clean and had beautiful warm, calm, clear blue water, great for relaxing and snorkeling and right in front of the hotel. The music was awful (constant techno pop) and too loud. The buffet wasn't very good but the italian and mexican restaurants and cafe were, as well as the service staff. The entertainment lacked, except for the accustic […] guitarist, he was really good, as were the fire dancers! The mattresses were really stiff as were the pillows. They don't have king size mattresses like offered on line, but pushed two double beds together to make a king. "This is not what we thought we signed up for"
This is not what we thought we signed up for. This is NOT the resort that is advertised. Amenities listed on Expedia are at the sister resort next door. It is advertised to be an Adult only resort and it was NOT. We have been vacationing in Mexico for 30 years in all areas. This is the first time that I was truly embarrassed to state where I was staying. […] The food, or lack thereof, was substandard and cold. At many meals we waited for food to be prepared so that we could have something to eat, as long as 20 minutes. Construction was everywhere on the campus, you had to literally step over paint buckets to get to the pool and beach. Noise started at 0630 every morning and there were workers just outside almost every guest's room. The distance to bathrooms was extreme, and when you finally got there the urinals were out of service, (for 5 days!!). We blame the resort marketing group for the misleading and outright mistruths in advertising but also believe that Expedia should have check it out before placing the information on their website.
