Overall had a good experience. Few complaints. Price was good, but we were in the older part of the hotel. We just happened to be next door to some heavy smokers, common in china, so we got a good amount of smoke in our room. the breakfast was delicious with extensive choices. convenient location to the subway and wafujing street.

The hotel room was very comfortable and in a great location. The bathroom although spacious, had extremely arkward doors that were extremely annoying! We stayed on the Executive Floor as we had at many other locations around Asia but found this to be the worst we had ever experienced. The food selection, was below average and the service was terrible. […] My husband who travels extensively for work and always chooses the Executive floor for the extra amenities it provides was very unhappy with it. He arrived 5 minutes early and even though all the food was set up he was told he couldn't have any until the clock struck 12! Didn't make him very happy. They never had glasses, spoons or plates available and you constantly had to ask for things. This hotel is right in the heart of the city. It's only a 5-minute cab ride from the fast train to the airport. Note on cabs: Cabbies are waiting right outside the train exit to over-charge you for a ride. I bargained down (at 10:30 pm after a long day coming from Xi'an, I just wanted to get to the hote), but I still overpaid (80 RMB and it only cost […] 15 RMB when I returned), so bargain well or go out on the street to catch a cab. If you can't speak Chinese, it would be good to have the hotel name written in Chinese to show your driver! The hotel room was really stylish and well appointed, including a chaise lounge, desk and lots of lighting options. The view of the city was great from my room which was only on the 10th floor. The service was good throughout the hotel. The hotel is in a great central location just across the street from the Peninsula Hotel. The night market is just down the street which sells everything you can eat on a stick (including crickets). It's fun to go and see whether you buy food or not. The hotel has free WiFi in the restaurants and lobby bar. They also have 2 computers across from the check-in desk for free internet use, but there was usually a line up to use them and the internet was not always reliable, but at least it was an option. This hotel's most attractive quality is its location---just a couple of blocks to the Forbidden City and Tian'anmen. Wangfujing is a fun, albeit tourist=focused, shopping area. The hotel has quite comfortable beds. Pillows are okay...I'm a fan of feathers, so the "sponge" feel doesn't appeal to me that much. Room was very clean; bathroom was a bit […] worn. The sink wasn't dry (the style tends to allow a bit of water to pool in its bottom), and the ceiling panel was loose. Otherwise, it was okay. We thought the fixed price of breakfast was ridiculous, so walked up & across the street to Starbucks and had delicious café lattés and muffins. Complaints: When we checked in, a bellman took our luggage. We went to our room but the bellman never arrived, so I went to the lobby to check things out. Found our cases against the wall, but couldn't get the attention of the bellman, who was busying himself moving other pieces of luggage from one place to the next. After standing in front of him for five minutes, I gave up and simply took our luggage myself. The other major complaint was the woman who was overseeing the business center. Needed to use the center to re-confirm our flights. When I walked in, she was working with a young man...there was no one else there. I sat down at a computer and began to log on. She looked up and demanded, "WHAT are you doing!? We are really busy in here and you need to wait!" One person does not equal busy (in my book). A male employee soon entered and offered to assist me in getting set up. She never apologized for her boorish behavior, which was a real turn-off. She subsequently was equally rude to another person who walked into the room. Her behavior was inexcusable for someone involved in the hospitality industry. The hotel was excellent. As you arrive and enter you are made to feel valued and welcome. It is situated a short walk from the main shopping area and market. Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City are a 25 minute walk. The Metro is close by. The buffet breakfast has a good choice. In the evening a buffet is also available. Be aware that as you leave the Hotel you will be targetted. They will appear at your side from now where 'welcome to Beijing where are you from' just keep walking and ignore them it's a scam. We booked our room for a very reasonable price and were expecting to be placed in a room that was not refurbished, but we were upgraded upon check-in and were very pleasantly surprised by how great our room was! Good mid range hotel- similar service to other European Novotels that I have stayed in except the lobby area had more staff (concierge and bar staff). Great location. We paid extra at check in for a superior room after reading previous reviews about the dodgy standard rooms in the West Wing. Our superior room was on the 15th floor in the main building […] and the room itself was spacious and clean but unfortunately we were not given a queen/king room as requested but a twin room (2 single beds). The room looked as though it was renovated recently and generally well done, but some of the renovations appear to have been carried out in a hurry e.g. our door latch looked as though it came off before and was screwed back in on top of what looked like cardboard. The fittings and new design of the sink and bath/shower was just like those in other newly renovated Novotels but the drainage in the bath/shower was slow. The bathroom also had a stale damp smell at times possibly related to slow drainage. I was very pleased that the toilet was actually in the bathroom and not separate as in Novotels in France and Germany (not fond of the latter). I would definitely recommend to opt for a room rate with breakfast as the buffet breakfast was very good (a lot of variety- western and eastern cuisines) as you normally find with 4 star hotels in the Far East. European Novotels should take note of this and offer more than a continental breakfast with only a few hot sausages and bacon! Read more

The Novotel Peace Beijing was located close to Tiannanmen Square and the Forbidden City. All within walking Distance. The Military Museum and Zoo are also nearby. Lot's of taxi's in case you need one. Only problem is the bed was quite hard. These could use updating.

This hotel serves as a great base for exploring Beijing City. If you are keen for a flat level walk, you can reach Beijing's key attractions within a few blocks - Forbidden City, Behei Park and Tianamen Square. If you are game enough to cycle around Beijing, you can hire a bike from the hotel for 60RMB - which is much more than other places but the […] bikes are in much better condition. The hotel is also only a block away from the main shopping area with all its big brands and "Eat Street" - bbq'd skewers of all types of funky meat - starfish, scorpions and of course normal meats and seafood. Not wanting to be stuck on a group tour to the Great Wall which includes sneaky diversions to "jade factories", the hotel's tour desk was helpful and efficient in assisting us to book a personal English-speaking guide and driver to take us to the Great Wall the next day. Our hotel room was very clean, although the bed may seem a little hard for Western tastes. I love the waterwall showerhead, however the overall shower area needs some rethinking because it leaks heavily - not that it will stop me from staying here again but I nearly slipped a couple times. This hotel is in great location - walking distance from the main shopping area and only about 15yuan via taxi to most tourist areas. Hotel staff are nice and helpful. They also have great tours. The only downside to this hotel is the room. It needs renovation and room air freshener.

great stay. 5 mins walk to main shopping mall, the all popular food markets and a 2 min walk down a street to a Super MarKet. Yes that's right, a capital K. Water there is only 4.90 RMB for 1.5LTs, compared to the 60 RMB in the hotel room. get with it! The food and snacks there are all out of date though, so dont bother with anything else ;)
