South Shore Inn - Sandusky

The visit to Ceder Point would not have been a good one without this hotel. The only things that need to be changed would be that we didn't have a microwave in our room and you had to go outside to get to a vending area and an ice machine. The staff were very nice especially the younger of the two gentleman on Friday September 14th.

We were pleased with most everything about the hotel. It was economical and clean. I especially enjoyed the fresh strawberry syrup that was served with the waffles at breakfast. Sadly, we stayed in a room next to a couple of loud folks who arrived in the middle of the night. It sounded at first like they were rearranging the furntiture, and then one […] of them wound up being locked out and banged loudly on the door while yelling for his friend to open up. Except for their rudeness and thoughtlessness (which could have happened at any hotel) it was a comfortable night. Thankfully, the loud folks next door settled down within an hour. I'm sure we could have called the front desk to take care of those folks... but you know how it is in the wee hours of the morning... you just keep hoping loud folks will shut up at any moment. An improvement would be the complimentary breakfast that was served. It was very limited. They had waffles, only two types of cereal and bread ( the next shipment on bread wasn't suppose to come in until two days after our departure and the only thing they had to put on it was butter.

The people at the hotel were friendly. However, the pool was closed two of the days we were there. Also, the continental breakfast was limited to toast and waffles. There was no fruit, yogurt, eggs or protein. I am not sure that it can actually be called breakfast.

The hotel website advertises a restaurant & bar in the hotel lobby. This information is how I based the decision on where we would stay. This information is also very FALSE. The restaurant & bar closed over a year ago. This was a non-refundable reservation, so we couldn't even change our minds & go to another hotel. Would never stay there again.

To sum it up in one word "PATHETIC". If that was a 3.7, your rating scale was way off. Our first trip after check in was to drug store for disifectent and sanitizer. It was a disappointing stay for what we paid. The room itself was adequate, although our room seemed small to me. The pool was a nice feature, but the advertised game room doesn't exist, nor does the bar/lounge or restaurant, which were reasons why we selected this particular hotel. And the continental breakfast was absolutely awful, one ridiculously […] slow waffle maker for a line of 25 people and everything is crammed down in a corner so it's impossible to get to anything without being in someone else's way. We didn't spend much time at the hotel, but it was very clean and comfortable while we were there. Only complaint is the lack of choices at breakfast. Your only two choices are either a waffle or toast. Other than that, it was a great stay!

The pictures available online must have been taken several years ago. The lobby was nice, but the room was run down and poorly cleaned. The dead bolt lock had no guts so we could not lock the outside door, and the door jam was cracked like the room had been broken into in the past. The amenities were poorly maintained - iron did not work, hair dryer […] shorted out during use, no shampoo in the dispenser, washer and dryer were out of order. And, the water slides...please! Those are playground slides that just happen to drop into the pool. They are tiny and there's no water running in them. This place was just perfect for our recent visits to Cedar Point. They are just down the street from all the CP hotels but less than half the cost. They have an outdoor pool with slides that was open until midnight. Which was great for the kids to unwind after a long drive to Sandusky, then after a long hot day at Cedar point. The breakfast is sparse […] but adequate for the kids to carb up before hitting the park (waffles, toast, cereal some fruit). The rooms were large enough, tiny bathroom but huge closet which was strange. Flat Screen TV's, although we had issues with our remote that could not be resolved (not a biggie since the kids were too tired anyhow, Some of the rooms had a mini fridge, but not all of them. Not quite what they had advertised. The restaurant and lounge are non-existent.The hot tub does not work at all and the breakfast left a little to be desired.However the proximity to CEDAR POINT and the helpfulness of the staff are enough to make it worth your while if you are on a budget.

I found this hotel to be very disappointing. We paid far to much for what we got. Our hotel room was very clean and comfortable. This is the most important detail. We were very pleased and will definitely go back. The pool area needed some upkeep. There were lots of spider webs under the water slides. It appeared as though the patio had never been swept. The pool had a lot of debris in it (leaves from trees, cigarette buds from […] the late night dwellers, etc.). The water was clear and very comfortable. A sweep through every morning would go a long way. The only other issue is the breakfast. The line for the waffles was 20+ minutes. The line was long and it was difficult to manuever in and around the cereal and toaster.
