Located right in front of the Cathedral. Very impressive views. Great location for all the sites. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We took the tuk tuk tour and it was GREAT.

Ample rooms located in the historic centre of Avila. The comparison quality/price exceeded our expectations.

"Superior residence"

When we arrived at this hotel having had an amusing experience with the Taxi driver in Salamanca (caused by a misunderstanding in language) I thought we had got it wrong again. This could not be the hotel we had booked far too upmarket I thought. I was only sure as we walked in the front door by the fact that it was right next to the cathedral. The receptionist was very apologetic that our room was not yet available (we didn't expect it to be) and having confirmed it was a double bedded room we required he carried out the necessary paperwork and asked for thirty minutes to prepare the room for us and took our luggage for safe keeping whilst we explored. On our return we were given the key to our room and passing two beautiful salons on a stained glass window corridor we ascended to the second floor and our room. Slightly smaller room and bed than in our previous hotel in Salamanca. Not hard as that was huge but more than sufficient for our need. Comfortable bed and no problem with temperature of the room. The room overlooked the cathedral door and there was no problem with noise. Could watch the nesting storks from the window. Good central position for amenities. Beautiful town where we walked the walls, a must do. Ate some lovely meals and generally relaxed in our room and the plush salons of this lovely hotel. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss with replenishments and clearing of tables taking a little time. All in all though a lovely hotel with pleasant and helpful staff.

"Disappointed!"

We are a family of 6; arrived in Avila without any hotel reservations on Saturday afternoon. We took 2 rooms in this hotel with 3 beds each. The rooms were well decorated, clean and spacious enough. The beds were pretty typical of Spain; firm with basic linens, not plush. Disappointed that the air conditioners in both rooms didn't cool. This meant opening the window to the inner space to try to cool the room over night (both rooms!) The wi-fi crapped out as well. Now, after reading some reviews, these are recurring issues. Great location but below average comfort and amenities drags down the ratings.

"Palacio Valderrabanos"

A very pleasant room in the hotel which was situated next to the Cathedral. It took us several attempts at driving to the hotel before we gave up, parked outside the walls and walked to the hotel. Parking was a problem - to stay in the car park recommended by the hotel would have cost 30 euros whereas to park outside the walls cost just 1 euro for 24 hours. The only drawback to this was that you then had to haul your luggage up to the hotel. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable but the air conditioning was not very effective and the room became rather warm. Check out was somewhat annoying as the only obvious member of staff on duty left the desk to attend to some workmen and we were left standing for several minutes despite a female member of staff working behind the scenes.

"A Palace in Avila"

Beautiful Hotel in excellent location right in the middle of the wonderful town of Avila. Huge bedroom with large comfortable bed and big bathroom. Ideally situated for sightseeing and diningout. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice. Not easy to find as it is within the city walls and access is via one of the city gates which if you are in a big car can be a little daunting as the gates are very narrow. Having said that the hotel is well worth a visit.

"Great hotel but some disappointing details"
01/27/15 JoaoBasso Joinville, SC
The hotel is of unquestionable high standard, and that´s why some issues are hard to overlook. I stayed there for 3 nights with my fiancée in a travel with a bigger group. Our room didn´t have double bed, it was two single beds put together. This is fairly common, but even the bedshirts were singles. I went to the reception and asked them to change for double bedshirts on the next day, or change our room, and was informed the hotel didn´t have enough rooms with double beds, not even enough double bedshirts for every guests. Thinking the recepcionist could have a wrong information, I also tried to send the request to the hotel´s email, and never had any reply. The wifi also didn´t work well in my room, and other friends commented the same too. When it connects, it is very slow as if it has low capacity for many guests at the same time. So, if you choose this hotel for its great location, good aesthetic or any other reason, I would just recommend to previously communicate with them and let them know in detail all your particular requests, and make sure they will be commited to meet them.

"A Palace Hotel next door to the Cathral"

A very impressive entrance, and a beautiful room overlooking the Cathedral square. Everything was very clean and well presented. We used the hotel car park, and have to disagree with the reviewer who said only a small car car reach it. We drove a Range Rover, right to the front door, and then ...carefully!! ... around a narrow road to their private car park. Just 9.90 Euros per day. Very safe. We had the buffet breakfast, which had everything you could want, including HOT scrambled eggs, and bacon. The coffee was from a machine,...ok but not the best. The bed was very comfortable, and even though we were right on the front, opposite the cathedral, we had a great nights sleep. The whole ground floor was having a complete redecoration while we were there, so everything was covered with plastic. But this did not detract from our enjoyment of the hotel. We would go again.

"Great location uncomfortable and noisy. Not a 4 stars hotel!"

We spent just a night but it was enough. The Hotel is right in front of the Cathedral, which is a great location, the entrance and main hall are big and nice, but that's all. The furniture is not old, it's broken, the carpets are dirty, the elevators are old. The resting areas are uncomfortable and lacking of seats. The room's corridor smells funny and the doors need paint. Our room was a disaster, the air conditioning didn't work and the window lead to a dirty noisy patio. No amenities in the bathroom, not enough toilet paper, not basing counter-top, even not toilet brush!! When we took a shower we found the previous guest's empty shampoo bottles inside the shower and the water came out into the bedroom... the beds were uncomfortable, and at 7 a.m the chambermaids started speaking and making noise outside our room!! Just not worth the money, I doubt this hotel deserves a 4 stars rating, Spanish Hotels are much better than this.

"Perfect location"

The hotel is right by the cathedral and within walking distance around the old town and local attractions. Yet it is sheltered by the church that it is quiet and peaceful hotel. We had group dinner there and the food and wine are both good. It is a hotel with character with reasonable price. Only small car can reach the hotel; otherwise you need to stop by the information centre below by the wall and walk up.

"Charming Hotel, great value"

What better location than the very heart of Avila right opposite the Cathedral. Beautifully located behind the City Walls this charming Hotel has a great feel of renaissance about it, as previous comments had made, a little "worn" but charming nonetheless. We had a great view of the Cathedral Plaza with a double bed and good sized bathroom with overhead shower and the other party with us had a triple room that was a great size, both clean and serviceable. Breakfast consisted of the basic buffet continental great croissants, fresh juice, cereals, yogurts, cold meats & cheese, breads, toast etc. It was an okay brekkie but as it was included in the price, good value for what you got. The morning coffee was from machine rather than freshly poured, I suppose that was buffet type convenience..but a real shame when the Spanish do coffee so well. Also, Please note as with most Spanish Hotels no tea making facilities in the room so take you travel kettle if its convenient. Overall, I would most certainly recommend this Hotel for its value for money and location, we only paid 127Euros for five (4Adults+1Child) and this inc breakfast! But.. If like us you have a car then park it just outside the walls, rather than paying daily Hotel charges and its free!

The Palacio Valderrabanos is located inside the old walled town of Avila in the province of Castilla y Leon it was an old Ducal palace it is in the cathedral plaza which is very romantic location, the décor, fittings and fixtures have that ancient 'worn look', the room that we stayed in was large for a double and the beds were comfortable the bathroom was fully equipped and everything was clean and tidy, the staff were unobtrusive in fact I only saw one. Within the hotel there is a basement restaurant called El Fogon de Santa Teresa where we had a forgettable evening meal.
