I have never been so angry while staying at a hotel. Without informing us, they had a band performing in the lobby until 1:00 a.m. I could hear it clearly and I was on the fifth floor; others on my floor were complaining too. Not a family friendly hotel. Don't bring your kids here. The lobby has been converted into a dining area so there is no where on the main floor to wait for others or to simply read a newspaper. No gift shop or place to buy essentials or snacks. Nicely renovated...except for the ancient elevators. Wonderful setting in downtown Bethlehem. Probably great for couples on a romantic weekend.

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel in part due to the comfort and location of the hotel. I initially had a problem with the room because it was located on the 8th floor, which is a no-smoking floor. Some guest decided s/he didn't have to comply with this and promptly filled up the floor with cigarette smoke. Since I had asthma, this didn't bode well for me. I went to the front desk staff to see what could be done. They moved me to another floor. Personally, I thought they should find the culprits, since it was also so late at night and it was an inconvenience to me, but it worked out well in the end because the other floor was also much quieter. The room was a bit small, much like European hotels, but it was nicely appointed and the bed was very comfortable. A bit spendy for someone who only slept in it but a nice splurge for me. I would definitely stay there again.

The hotel is very pretty and the location is terrific. On Sunday morning, there was no hot water and the staff were unhelpful and unconcerned. Just told me that the hotel was full. For the price, I want to be able to take a shower in the morning, and if hot water is is not available for some reason, I'd like the staff to be concerned and apologetic - and they were not. Poor service for the price.

My most recent stay at the Bethlehem Hotel was pleasant and I always love staying right downtown in old Bethlehem. The location of this hotel can't be beat and I received an extra bonus of spring pricing, which made it quite affordable. The only drawback to this hotel is that, being one of the premier places in the area, there are always weddings and large groups using the hotel. The large groups are fine but the weddings can get very loud and go long into the night. My in room movie service was unfortunately not working this trip, which made for long nights with only the TV stations to watch. Regardless though, I always enjoy my stay at the hotel.

I usually ignore the really negative reviews that stand out among the positive ones, assuming that that guest's experience was an anomaly, or the traveler was inexperienced and had unrealistic expectations. However, I hope you will read this. We used to stay here in the 1990s, when it was still lovely and elegant, if slightly shabby. It's been refurbished and updated, but the new incarnation has totally abandoned the grandness. We stayed on a Saturday night, and a wedding held on the mezzanine (opening on to the lobby) blasted Abba music. Drunk middle-aged guests wandered around. Our room was tiny, and to see the view we had to stand in front of the miniscule window. The guys at the front desk were unfriendly. The lobby was freezing and stunk of cigarette smoke; the front desk guys off-handedly explained that the smoke drifted in from outside and there was nothing they could do about it. Plus, the Tap Room--which used to be cozy with dark wood and beautiful old murals--has been made into part of the lobby, a cold space with neon lights and a disinterested-looking hostess. So if you don't want to eat at the fancy restaurant, you're stuck with that generic space. Save your cash and get a big comfortable room at the Comfort Suites, where they actually want your business!

Most things were very good to excellent. I tried the restaurant this time and enjoyed it (I also love the bagels across the street). The neighborhood can't be beat and the service, cleanliness, character, and feel are all elegant and upscale without any stuffiness or pomposity. Last time my room was on a corner and spacious and lovely, this time it was a bit small. This was fine (and efficient & cozy) except for in the bathroom, where standing at the sink was cramped. I love that the window opens all the way (though the increased airflow brought stale smelling air in from the hallway until I put a towel at the bottom of the door). Main complaint is that the long distance phone service and voicemail was not turned on when I checked in (and this is the second stay this has happened to me).

Very nice hotel, though not stuffy or super high-end. The location is fabulous, right downtown in a town with a real main street with restaurants, cafes, spas, shops and a great art gallery for all interests. The room was elegant, very comfortable, and had windows that opened wide to the lovely air -- a rare and fabulous treat. The train whistles and church bells are not quiet with the windows open, but add to the charm. I'll definitely stay again on my next visit.

The linens were nice, but the furnishings were not. We were in a suite and the furniture was knicked up and the couch was quite dirty and stained. The bathroom was nice and clean except for the jacuzzi tub- Yuck. Some of the staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. The elevator was broken and they just let us stand there waiting for it- not telling us until we asked that it was broken. Did not offer the service elevator just told us we would have to wait for it to be fixed or climb the 6 flights.
