Very outdated but clean. The proximity to the Gondola make it almost a ski in/out. Good value.

This was a great place too stay!! It was close to great hiking trails, stores, and restaurants! The guest service was excellent and knowledgeable! I will definitely stay here again and would suggest this place to my friends and family!

After we arrived I found out that pets are allowed. That made me wonder about the stains on the carpet in our room. Generally the rooms were well maintained but our dated. The staff was extremely friendly. However, I will not be returning to this inn.

We knew from the other reviews that this hotel was dated...so we were totally ok with that. The staff members were awesome! They were very helpful and genuine. Our room was nice size and clean. the hotel is in a terrific location. i was travelling alone (female) so being able to safely walk to the ski time square and torian plum shops for dinner was very helpful. the rooms were clean and in good shape, just dated decor as others mentioned. main drawback was horrible internet connection. i'm glad i wasn't dependent on their connection for anything […] because it was just about useless. (they had wireless and network cable connections in the room, both equally bad.) it may be kind of a nitpick but i left a couple of things by the pool one evening and went to the desk the next morning to see if they'd been turned in. they had, so that was great. however, there was a handwritten note stuck to my things that said "t.j. wants these if dan doesn't." whaaaaa? they were claiming dibs on my stuff in less than 24 hours! to be fair, things are probably constantly being turned in and never claimed so it's just a habit. but, it was kind of disconcerting to see that someone had gone through my stuff and picked out what they'd like to have. all in all, it's a good place to stay and i would definitely recommend it. One of the earliest inns -- the Ptarmigan is surrounded by newer buildings but it has a 'retro' charm and is a quick walk to the gondola. Since it is about 10 minutes to the historic district it doesn't have any road noise from the main highway in. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

The hotel location is awesome across the snow from the gondala. It is "ski in -ski out". There is a good ski rental in the basement. Parking is great. We checked into room 220 and it smelled sour like there is a water leak that is being covered up by hotel freshner spray. I was concerned the stinch would not come out of my clothes. I went to the front […] desk, and they swapped out the room. Someone else was later that day was going to get that room! We were then moved to a room down the hall and it was great. No smell. If you're going for luxury at the base of the mountain, then look somewhere else. If you're going for a 50 yard walk to the gondola and ski in/ski out locale, then the ptarmigan is for you. The Ptarmigan is a good choice if you plan to spend most of your time on the ski slopes or in the Village. The hotel is truly ski-in and ski-out. The ski storage worked efficiently. This is an excellent ski-in, ski-out hotel right at the gondola base at Steamboat. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the restaurant is ok, has a nice bar, maid service is good. The only criticism I have is the lack of assistance with your bags and skis when checking in and out of the hotel. They have no valet, and the desk does not offer any help. […] A small thing if you are young, or if you don't have many bags. We were lucky to get a 4th floor room which is on the same level as the desk. If you are on the first, second, or third floors, you have to climb and descend stairs, as there is no guest elevator. Hotel is kind of hidden in a little nook amongst mostly upscale condos and other high-end developments built up around it. Convenient to Mt. Werner Circle (you can watch the gondola heading up Mt. Werner from the outside stairs (or from the breakfast area). Hotel staff went above and beyond if needed, to provide a pleasant experience. Computer access […] is available in the rooms (wired and wireless) as well as a public computer in the lobby (they even printed out a document I needed). Parking lot is the only "weak" point -- when the hotel is at or near capacity, it can be pretty difficult to get all vehicles in (and access is very narrow at one point) -- no room for really large vehicles or trailers, etc. We were there more or less in the "off season" (between summer and winter peaks), so can't comment on closed restaurant or other features. And it is an older building, so don't expect absolute state-of-the-art perfection; but with the trees and mountain view and surroundings, it was relaxing and pleasant. Read more

The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast fine. There was no hot food. You could tell the place was a bit worn, but it was clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It's close to skiing but not to downtown shopping but there is free bus service within walking distance.

The front desk was very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and very clean. Pool and Hot tub were pleasant. Breakfast is extremely limited, but Steamboat has plenty of restaurants to visit. Great views from the balcony. Very quiet bldg and location.

We stayed at this hotel for a few nights at the end of the summer. The staff was friendly and helpful at all times. The property is older but has been well maintained. Spent 7 nights at the Ptarmigan Inn and recommend it for its friendliness and ski-in ski-out convenience. Hotel has adequate free parking. All reception desk staff were very cheerful and helpful. Agree with other reviewers that the decor is begining to look a little tired, but the whole hotel was very clean and tidy. Buffet breakfast at 9.99 is good […] value. Really enjoyed the lovely warm outdoor swimming pool and the scorchingly hot jacuzzi. There is a ski rental shop in the hotel, a slight premium on the price of rental elsewhere, but very convenient. Only downside of being in a slopeside hotel is the piste bashers trundling up and down outsie at 0500 in the morning. The TV system is a bit old and basic, but it works. The room, indeed the whole hotel, was lovely and warm. No hesitation recommending this hotel, and we will certainly stay there again! Read more
