I wasn't pleased that I needed to pay extra in order to have visitors. I could not understand that policy. There is a $20 charge if someone goes up to your room to visit and he/she is not a hotel guest.

I was quite disappointed with the hotel, particularly with the service. My friends and I were not sure if the poor service was reserved simply for us, because of the discounted price we payed for the rooms via hotels.com, or if this was a general issue. Our entire floor (2nd) had a terrible smell. Smelled exactly as if there had been a flood some time […] ago, but that it had not yet dried, thus making the rooms feel very humid and smell moldy. Rooms were never cleaned by the time we arrived back in the late afternoon, and it seems there was only one housekeeper responsible for a floor with MANY rooms. There was always something missing, either soap or not enough towels, and when we asked, it would never arrive, having to asking again and waiting at the front desk instead, so that they would get annoyed enough with us to provide us with what we asked. In the restaurant it was no better, we ordered a drink, and patiently waited 30 minutes. When we asked about the drinks, no apologies were given, (the waiter forgot to give the bar our order) and the drinks were given in 3 minutes. Finally, when we checked-out, we were given bills for the room minibars and restaurant that were not even ours. They were for other rooms, but with our names on the receipt. That's when I lost it. Nice hotel in good location to see dominican republic history. Be sure to reserve through internet as the rate at the counter will be 3 times the internet rate. Room was small but clean , WIFI acceptable and free. Excellent breakfast buffet for decent price. Found staff to be helpful and nice.

The hotel was suppose to have Wifi. It is a must especially in a pro-business hotel. But there was none working in any of the rooms upstairs and one had to go to the lobby to get a signal. The neighborhood was very noisy even after 2am and the geniuses in the tight streets pumped their car horns even after 3am like they were auditioning for a Murrumba […] band. The Hotel did not have little amenities like tooth brushes to buy to buy. So you had to find sparse pickings in the side streets, which was mostly selling tourist swag. It is a ice hotel in a very convenient location and for a good price. The breakfast is good, staff are helpful too. The only problem is that rooms are humid and toilets need some renovation, but overall all is lean, so definitely I would stay there again.

Smelly bed with mold and hair on the sheets! Walking into the room was like walking into an old wet shoe. It took over an hour to get clean sheets. When they did come, they were for a single bed not a double. Then another 45 minutes. What more is there to say? Yes, there is more, no soap.

The hotel is right in the historic Zona Colonial. The restaurant is good although the service can be a bit slow. Currency exchange is not a bargain but there is a van with a "Cambio" sign, across the street from the hotel and the owner gives the same rate as banks and can be trusted. The hotel was quiet, safe and well monitored. The WIFI worked well […] and the room safes are large enough to hold a laptop. If you plan to extend your stay do not do it at the desk - the rates are much higher that way. I went up to my room and made a new reservation through Hotels.com and saved a lot on my extension. The hotel is located in the middle of the Zona Colonial and therefore ideal for sightseeing. The staff are generally friendly and helpful, the breakfast buffet is very good. On the minus side, it usually gets very noisy at night because the hotel is next to several nightclubs. Moreover, the rooms are relatively humid, so there is a persistent smell […] of mildew. I had no problems with the internet, but I spoke to several other customers who did. Be prepared to pay a 25 $ deposit per night when checking in, which I had no problems getting back when checking out. We were two in the small room. Very comfy bed, though sheet was attached to light comforter so kept A/C at 20C for that upper-midwest bundled-up sensation. The shower was hazardous as its shiny-and-slippery ceramic floor was, oddly, elevated a foot above the rest of the bathroom's floor, making entrance and egress an adventure. Skip their breakfast […] "deal", you'll find cheaper fare on Calle El Conde right outside the door. We dined at the hotel's restaurant once, on Christmas Eve. Though tasty, my mixed grill was missing a promised ingredient (sausage). No mention of the missing salchicha before serving and then nothing done (how about a free dessert?) to make up for faulty (and pricey) main dish. Otherwise, Mercures' location is superb, in the heart of Zona Colonial. Staff very helpful and friendly. Hotel is very well located close to everything, rooms are surprisingly nice for the price. The per night is very reasonable considering the others around.
