The hotel is reasonably priced and is in a great location - near the harbor, the Midway, the Gaslamp District, and Little Italy. Our stay at the Best Western Bayside was great! Location is key - within walking distance from most big sightseeing spots in the Bay. We thought parking fees were high. The Hotel was o.k. It needs some updating it looks a little old. Also there are smoking rooms (I thought all California Hotels were nonsmoking), so make sure you ask. The location was good and it worked for a family vacation with young kids.

Excellent service and helpful staff! Convenient parking and an well kept pool for use. We got breakfast vouchers for each day of our stay which we're very nice to not have to find a place or pay extra for breakfast. The breakfast was very nice with a lot of options of hot or cold breakfast items. It was a nice perk!!

The hotel failed to make a scheduled wake up call, making us late for a doctor appointment. On the day we left, we signed up for the complimentary airport shuttle and were waiting in the lobby with our luggage, when the shuttle left without us. I booked this hotel through Expedia. I have never had any problems booking through Expedia before, all hotels received my requests for type of room/additional comments but not this one. Staff was very unfriendly and the lady who was at the check in that night mentioned a few times that I booked through a third party like it was something awfull. I trust Expedia with all my bookings so I didn't like this hotel's stuff attitude at all. Bedding had stains, carpet had stains, breakfast was not so great as I am used from other Best Western's hotels I stayed at. It smelled like pee around the hotel as there are many homeless people in the area. Staff don't even greet anybody when coming in and I did not see any smile on anybody's face at the lobby. Location is good but that is pretty much all this hotel has. This was our 3rd return trip to Bayside, For us it is at a great location to little Italy, light rail and just a short walk from the harbor area. No need for us to get a car. Nice location, very convenient to bus stations. And the surroundings have good italy restaurants. And the hotel has free shuttle to the airport, which is really nice. The shuttle comes every 30 minutes what you need to do is to check with the front desk when you are going to take the shuttle then they will take care of it.

This Best Western was quite reasonable, and I wasn't expecting anything *spectacular*. It was a good walking location for the primary the things I wanted to do, e.g., Balboa Park, Little Italy, Gaslamp District. And lots of public transport is nearby, too. The front staff was friendly and helpful on hotel matters, but don't expect restaurant referrals […] or anything from them. The hotel is near the San Diego train station, so Amtrak and other regional rail can be heard sometimes. Also, it's near the state courthouse and jail, so there are several bail bonds locations nearby. But I always felt safe walking places in the evening. Stayed here for 4 nights with my fiance - this was our first time to San Diego and we figured we'd spend less on the hotel and more on adventure/tourist stuff. The free airport shuttle service alone is enough to make me always want to come back here. The shuttle driver was a really nice guy too. Actually, everyone was really nice. The location is perfect and the room was decorated well and had a nice view. But... the bed springs squeaked a fair bit and the refrigerator made this slightly annoying ticking […] sound - I had to put a pillow in the freezer to dampen the noise. Also, the breakfast was bland and luke warm - could use some bagels and cream cheese. The shower temperature was hard to maintain. The Best Western Bayside hotel is well situated to a number of attractions in downtown San Diego. First off, the hotel was about a 5-10 minutes walk from the Santa Fe Depot train station (rode Amtrak from Fullerton, CA). Due to this, the train horns might bother some in the daytime but it was quiet at night.
