Upon checking in....the gentleman at the front desk informed me there was a $100 a day hold that needed to be placed on my credit card for incidentials. I gave him my credit card and he "announced" that my card was declined and he then stated, "You should have contacted your bank prior to coming to Puerto Rico.", very rude. Then come to find out, he […] swiped my card incorrectly. Wow! All that and he was the one wrong. He never apologized. Then after our first night there, the next day our room wasn't serviced. I arrived back to my room at 6:30pm to find out my room was never cleaned. I still had the same towels I had from the day before. I called the front desk and they informed me I didn't schedule it to be cleaned. They offered to bring fresh towels, a guy came up dropped off the towels and didn't take the old towels that were used. Lastly, my room was called around 7:10am to inform me I needed to come to the front desk to swipe my card again. I called and spoke to someone else around 10am and they indicated I didn't need to come, they did the authorization from over the phone. In addition to week-end getaways, we travel two-three times a year to different countries and hard to believe it's the fact that this is the first time we are in a room that does not have a fridge or a microwave. The hotel was a bit further from the airpoint than I expected. I requested a resort or garden view and they initially gave me a view of the roof. Literally. I felt like I needed to write this after the way we were treated, and the lack of care of this hotel’s customers and facilities. Our “Ocean View” room was 99% pool view. Poor management of front desk. Manager unsympathetic to my complaint of being locked out of my room for 45 minutes. Shower pressure low and changed temperatures drastically. Shower […] pipes shook like a jackhammer. You could hear other rooms around you when they were in the shower from same noisy pipes. Room was muggy with damp sheets and pillows. Patio door remained closed and A/C kept at 68, but that didn’t help. Service at pool bar was crazy bad. He would take your order, go to other side of bar, and help 3 more customers, and come back to take your order again. We met someone on our scuba dive who was also staying at this hotel. He said, “OMG, it takes forever to get a drink at the bar.” Beach shower.. Only 1 of 4 foot rinses worked. Pool bathroom.. toilet didn’t flush. Only 1 of 3 sinks worked. Concierge.. Kept trying to send us to the same 2 restaurants. We had our own car to go anywhere. I didn’t eat at hotel. My in-laws where there 2 days before us and wanted to get away from the resort as much as possible citing poor service and expensive drinks and food. If you don’t have a car, you are stuck there. There is nothing within walking distance. I would never go back to this hotel. Spend your money somewhere else. Read more

Just returned from a stay at the Wyndham Rio Mar.... not the fanciest place I've stayed, but it was a nice property with easy beach access and clean rooms and pools. There are two pools, one "quiet pool" for adults only, and a second pool with activities going on during the day. There are more than enough loungers and umbrellas on the beach, and the […] guys are happy to set them up for you at no charge (though we did tip them every day). There are many restaurants to choose from on the property for both lunch and dinner, and all were pretty good. We did go into San Juan for dinner on two occasions. It's between 35 and 45 minutes if you have a car. There are also some great local restaurants near the Wyndham. We were booked into an "oceanfront" room, which really turned out to be an "oceanview" room- none of there rooms are really "oceanfront" as in right on the beach, so it's probably not worth the extra expense for that. The property could probably use a bit of an update, but if you are looking for a nice place at a reasonable rate and not fancy, this is a great place to stay. The only negative really was that they will never give you a towel without a towel card, and it is always just one per person. So if you like to use two beach towels, bring one with with you. Beautiful grounds, beach and pools but the rooms are in desperate need of renovations. Hallway carpets as well as the drapes and upholstered furniture in the room were filthy. We had two oceanfront rooms with great views but both smelled musty. Public internet in lobby was often not working - very frustrating for those that did not want to pay for internet in the room or bring their tablet to the lobby. Beautiful resort with spacious rooms. Beach is absolutely perfect with white sand and no rocks or coral. Servers and Bartenders were extremely friendly and accomodating. If you go, make sure to ask John for a drink, best bartender around!!

We loved where the resort is! We had a rental car and it was easy to visit San Juan or the rain forest. The grounds were beautiful. We were on the top floor ocean front. The furniture is a little dated but our room was clean! The only con was no wi-fi ! Only in the lobby which seemed a little odd. All in all we wold go back!

I had to request that my room be cleaned 4/5 days. The air conditioning causes moist air and there is a musty smell when it comes on with residual must in the room. My husband woke with a cough and sore throat each morning. The staff were hot and cold. Some very pleasant and accommodating but many were dissappointing. The restaurants were not open several […] nights pushing guests to only the few that were. This caused delays in getting meals. Some of the service was excellent, but there seemed to be a need for coordination of staff by management. That being said, I would return.The grounds are immaculate and view is breathtaking.The adult pool was shaded with all the cabanas and not particularly clean. I understand a capital investment in the hotel is underway so hopefully the airconditioning flaw will be repaired. There is gambling, golf, swimming and dance show options. As far as service goes, perhaps a new manager could work on team building for coordination of inspired service. This could be a 5 star hotel. It rates only 3.5 from me. Read more

Rent a car! Enterprise rental car including tolls/gas/car price was $162 + $15/night to park. Pick up/drop you off from the airport, the hotel charges 75 dollars round trip for 3 people that alone costs $225. The rainforest with the hotel it is $59pp where it is free if you just drive. If you go to the visitors center, they just charge $4pp. If you […] want to go ziplining the hotel charges $150pp, where if you go individually it's only $99pp, if you go to the bioluminecent bay the hotel charges $99pp and if you drive yourself it is only $45. Local food is amazing & if you don't have a car you are stuck eating hotel food that is expensive. Also, don't do reservations with the front desk. We getting directions to the excursions and they were helpful but the tour desk lady insisted on reserving our kayaking trip and she made a phone call reservation. One phone call for 3 people finding out our kayaking trip was now upcharged to $59 dollars pp from 45 even though we drove. She made $42 on that call. We argued this charge, talked to the manager, told her I questioned the charges and the lady simply said this was the charge, without reporting the 14 dollar service charge pp. We asked if we could be shuttled instead of driving since we were deceived and she said that would be $99, no remorse. Don't let them book for you. The excursions were amazing, for food go to the kioskos so good! All in all, great trip and I highly recommend this location since it's close to all the excursions.
