It sees a lot of passing traffic in terms of canal boats and visitors en route to San Marco, but is otherwise quieter and less touristy than central Venice. We only had one night's stay here but it was very comfortable and convenient, being within easy walking distance of the train station and the bus station at Piazzala Roma. The room was comfortable, not large but adequate, and with an excellent TV. The bathroom was clean with full facilities (hair dryer, tissues, etc), but the bathtub was designed for sitting in making it a little awkward for us to shower in. There was air conditioning in the room but, as it was November, it wasn't on. We enjoyed fresh air from the open window, the downside of which is having to put up with the noise of people in the street below and the noise of boat engines until very late at night, as well as receiving a wake-up call from the church bells at 7:00 am. The decor is a bit old and in need of freshening up in places. The breakfast was excellent - a good selection from which to choose - and the restaurant was a good size, very clean and well presented.

out of value="10""Great hotel with an even better location"
Reviewed by Zul V of New York on Aug 31, 2009
I must say I loved this hotel, firstly because of its excellent location. It was conveniently located about 3 minutes walking distance from the St Lucia train station and that was excellent because we had two very large and heavy bags that we got rid of quickly at the hotel, therefore there is no need to use expensive water taxis, vaporetto or walk through Venetian streets trying to get to another hotel with huge bags. It was very easy to find the hotel since it was literally on the same street as the train station. Some people might think that areas around train stations are not necessarily the best but in Venice, wherever you are is beautiful. The street outside the hotel and the surrounding neighborhood is very lively, so much so that when we'd get back from sightseeing we'd eat a crepe or a gelato on the street infront of the hotel and walk around late into the night, the street is bustling. There is also a vaporetto stop a few steps away. Now the hotel itself is nice too, we got a great price and the breakfast was included (our room did not have a canal view), but it was still quite comfortable despite the size (it was relatively small) but it was sufficient for us and for Venetian standards I'm sure our room was average. The breakfast was good, the staff speak every language imaginable and they're very friendly too. The hotel is well kept and room was very clean. I'd definitely reccomend this hotel to anybody going to Venice.

We have been visiting Venice for va number vof years and have stayed at the Principe on most occasions. It is away from the centre so may not suit call, but is ideal for us.Rooms are variable, some excellent some satisfactory.Food and service are usually very good. The decor, particularly carpets,is looking a little "tired" and some investment is needed.

While there are many positives about this hotel, the biggest is location. It is on the same side of the canal as the train station. Having never been to Venice I had no idea how high the main bridges across the canal were, or how many steps they had, or even how much harder it is to pull luggage across cobblestones. The hotel is also located on the Grand Canal so, even though our room was not, it gave us somewhat the experience without the price. The only negative is that each floor has more than one level, but the elevator only stops once at each floor. So, while we could take the elevator to the second floor, we still had to take a decent flight of stairs to our room. They offered plenty of help with our luggage but people who have problems with stairs should make a request before arriving. But all said, if I make it back to Venice this would be the hotel I would choose.
