"Very nice place"
We love it and will definitely stay there again. Staff is excellent and the comp breakfast is also great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was 4 blocks from what the check in clerk told me was called Restaurant Row and we were able to walk there and find great restaurants both nights. We also were able to walk to the Old Salem restoration in about 10 minutes. There were places with no crosswalks but there isn't much traffic so it wasn't a problem. The location was important and […] I was completely happy with it. The hotel was comfortable and the pool was clean and there were plenty of towels. Older hotel but nice room. Convenient to local restaurants. Breakfast was adequate but very crowded location.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was great; it would have been nice if there were more blankets in the room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Enjoyed our stay!"
We enjoyed our stay! The staff was very friendly, breakfast was lovely and the location was very convenient to some fun restaurants and Wake Forest Campus. I would recommend this hotel as a nice break from big chain hotels.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Family friendly hotel"
We only planned a one night stay in June 2012. Check-in was easy breezy. The front desk staff were very friendly. The hotel was very clean and there was always someone there when had a question. Since we were familiar with the Winston-Salem area we ate our meals outside of the hotel although the night we stayed they did offer a reasonbly priced crab […] cake diner for 13.99 appetizers and dessert included. We did however enjoyed the continental breakfast which included eggs, sausages or bacon along with make it yourself waffles, great coffee and a variety of fresh donuts and pastries. We checked out the next day but unexpectedly had to remain another day so we went right back and were greeted with the same friendly smiles. Luckily we were able to get a room without having reservations & the service again was great. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Home Away from Home"
My husband and I took my our daughter to Winston-Salem for Orientation at Winston-Salem State University and stayed at the Hawthrone Inn. The hotel is located in an older part of town , but very clean and well kept. The staff was very helpful and professional. I ask for additional pillows and they immediately gave them to me. I really like not having […] to pay for parking. The hotel was right off the interstate highway and it only took ten minutes to get to the college the next morning. We really like the complimentary breakfast and the dinner in the hotel restaurant was price very reasonable. It was kind of like home away from home. I left my jacket in the restaurant, and waitress ran all the way outside to catch up with me to return my jacket. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Noisy Choir Practice"
Noise in the hall by the ice machines and vending and we were moved to another room. There were many people in the room next door with loud talking, laughing, etc. until well after Midnight; then at 7:30 AM this group started singing 'choir practice' in this same room. Must have been 10+ persons in this room-we watched them go out the back stairs. Did […] not sleep much and bed was not at all comfortable. "close to universities"
Great hotel in a good location close the WSSU and Wake Forest U where my daughter graduated. Extremely helpful desk staff: I had booked two rooms: one a king and a second two double room. We ended up with to king rooms and staff went out of their way to exchange and make sure we were satisfied. Only drawback was the lady attendant at the free breakfast […] buffet: she seemed not to want to be there> Good overall value! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is in need of serious renovations to keep up with the times. Double beds need to be changed to queens, handicap parking is very confusing, had to help 2 seniors with instructions on how to park. Rooms are located in the back of the hotel. Both nights we had to request wash clothes, one night we have to go without a wash cloth. Other than that […] the customer service was excellent, hotel is very clean, located where it's easy to get on and off the freeway and the food was very good. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Looking forward to staying here again!"
I've never been to a cleaner hotel! Staff was very friendly and kind. All spoke and greeted you like you were a special guest. When i travel in the fall back to Winston-Salem, I know where I'll stay! Also, the Senior Prom was going on in the Convention Center and we did not hear any noise at all! Fantastic place!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Noisy, but good location"
This hotel was very convenient to the Old Salem area. Apparently it is used extensively by the local hospital when families are in from out of town. My 3 star rating was primarily because of the noise at night. May have just been the night we were there, but we had a rough night's sleep.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is an older hotel but is well maintained and was a good value.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was lovely. The gentleman checking me in was a delight. I had some special needs at the last moment and they bent over back wards to accomodate us. This is a lovely hotel, great staff and impecably kept.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Hawthorne Hotel Winston Salem, NC"
I was here for a conference downtown. It accommodated all I needed. The breakfast was yummy! The staff there was incredibly courteous, helpful and welcoming. Thank you!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not much sleep"
We booked two queen beds as my husband and I were traveeling with our daughter who had an audition and we wanted to be there the night before. We did not get queen beds but double beds which were extremely uncomfortable. The pillows were flat and all 3 of us complained about the pillows and did not sleep well. The heat was extremely loud and noisy. […] So, combination of beds not being what we booked and too small, flat pillows and loud heater, not much sleep which defeated the purpose of going to Winston Salem the night before. We would have been better rested to get up early and drive the 2 1/2 hours to Winston Salem. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"A pleasant surprise"
I was traveling to Winston-Salem for business and was looking for a centrally located hotel. For the price, the hotel was wonderful: clean, comfortable, all amenities (fridge, microwave, hairdryer, lot of towels, soaps, shampoos, etc). Internet was fast and without much of the rigmarole that other hotels seem to want. Also, the complimentary breakfast […] had a pretty expansive selection and was open a long time. Friendly and efficient staff. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The outside of the hotel made me doubt the quality of the hotel, but the inside is very nice. The hotel rooms are typical, the bathroom was very nice. The best thing about this hotel was the friendliness of the staff. They stored my baggage and called a taxi for me and made my stay very stress freeGenuine Expedia guest review

"Tricked by ratings"
We researched Winston-Salem hotels for a recent trip and I have to say that I was tricked by the high customer ratings for the Hawthorne Inn. This hotel is VERY outdated. The rooms have very uncomfortable old beds, outdated carpet that should have been replaced a long time ago, and amenities that resemble an old Days Inn. I absolutely would not recommend […] staying here again. The staff was incredibly nice, but this hotel needs a makeover before anyone stays here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hawthorne Inn and Conference Center-Winston Salem"
We were on our way to Asheville and stopped here one night so we could have an early start on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The price was right and the accommodations were comfortable. The hotel does have a complicated arrival setup. You check in at the front of the hotel and park and unload luggage at the back. Luggage has to be carried up a set of stairs […] unless you use the inconvenient handicap area. Too bad that there is no ramp. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"tries, but disappoints"
This is an older hotel. They have tried to make physical upgrades, but miss the mark on some points. Hotel (not lobby) access is via step stairs. You had to enter around back, not visible to registration desk, which was kinda creepy since I got in at midnight. Room fixtures had upgrades but: -shower pressure varied with each toilet flush on the floor -I […] think that tissues were supposed to be artfully "poofed" out of the box, but it could also be that the previous occupant pulled out too many and tried to shove them back. -no outlets near the bed for iPod or phone charging. No outlets on desk for same, not even on the light fixtures, which is common in most hotels. -Didn't get the wake-up call I requested as the volume was off on the phone (my bad). Good thing I was awakened by the dumpster being emptied. Hotel lobby, hallways and room were clean. Price was cheeper that that of chain hotels. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hawthorne in Winston-Salem"
Convenient location and excellent hotel for price paid. Room had a great setup with a desk, king size bed and small table in front of window. Would stay again and recommend to others. There was a continental breakfast available but I didn't eat there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice for business"
Nice, friendly staff. Hotel is clean. This is the 2nd time I have stayed at this place. It's a little far away from WFU, though. I may try to stay some place a little closer next time.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great affordable find!"
Just needed a spot for the night to take someone to an early train in Greensboro having come down for the mountains. The Hawthorne was perfect for our afternoon/evening in Winston-Salem. The hotel and room were clean (my biggest requirement!), bathroom was nice, easy free parking. It would have been nice had the bed had a newer blanket or comforter […] as I was a bit cold but other than that, no complaints. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Outdated and uncomfortable - Freindly service though"
The lobby was nice and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The room on the other hand was bad. Bed felt like it was 20 years old and belonged in a pay by the hour motel. The tv was an old magnavox and the picture was fuzzy the whole time. The whole room from furniture to carpeting was outdated and old. Not sure if they actually have up to date […] renovated rooms and we just got this one because it was a last second deal or not. the stairwell smelled like mold. "Great Location; Great Staff; Great Price"
Convenient to all things in Downtown, Winston-Salem. The room was clean and comfortable, however the pictures given an illusion that the beds are pillow top quality. They are comfortable enough, but are not pillow top. There is a wonderful restaurant inside of the hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A nice older hotel"
This hotel is exactly as others described. Very convenient location. It is a bit dated. The remote did not work well and it was an older hotel. Otherwise the stay was fine. A great location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"outstanding for the price"
The conference center portion was very beautiful and modern. You could tell the hotel portion was older but it had recently been updated. Rooms were very roomy, and had fridge, microwave and free wifi. One downfall was the lack of outlets. Also there was a free warm and cold breakfast buffet that was just right and ended up saving me $20 on breakfast […] for the family. There was also a restaurant in the hotel which had decent food but Very convenient so we did not have to pack the kid up to out somewhere else for dinner. "Good last minute hotel."
The hotel service was great. The condition of the hotel's exterior needs improvement but don't judge a book by its cover. The restaurant was great for room service and was moderately priced. "Convenient to Downtown Winston-Salem, Wake Forest University and BBT Stadium"
Hawthorne Inn is within walking distance to downtown Winston-Salem. Leave your car at the hotel parking lot and take a leisurely stroll to the cafes, restaurants, bar & grill located about three to four blocks away. They even had a group of jazz musicians play by the sidewalk next to the cafes on a Thursday afternoon (4pm-5pm). The hotel is very clean […] and quiet. Our king-size bed was comfortable and cozy. They kept the temperature at a comfortable zone. Our only minor complaint is the fogging of the mirrors because the bathroom in our room do not have the fan exhaust to vent the steam from the hot shower. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and offered a variety of choices like hot waffle (make it yourself), fresh fruits, cereal, coffee, fruit juices, milk, omelet, etc. Wake Forest University and the BB&T Stadium is a few minutes away. A restaurant grille on the Deacon Tower of the stadium serves an excellent selection of entrees for lunch. This place is called the Deacon Tower Grille. Their Carolina Crabcake was excellent either on a bun or with vegetables on the side. The view from this tower was panoramic and you can eat outdoors on the balcony. We will stay a Hawthorne Inn again on our next trip to Winston-Salem. My wife and I visited the Wake Forest University Reynolda Campus and I attended a class held by the Northwest AHEC located also on the Deacon Tower. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Very nice room"
Hotel room was large, very clean and well maintained, and the staff was extremely helpful. The hot continental breakfast was very good. "Good service but not for those with mobility issues"
The Hawthorne Inn was great for those with family members who are patients at the Wake Forest Medical Center. The shuttle to and from the hospital was convenient and reliable. The breakfast was great. The staff was cordial and helpful. Unfortunately, for those who have mobility problems there are issues. For example, there is a starway to access the […] guest elevators unless you use the garage entrance. The stairway has a wheelchair lift that you can ask to use, but if you use a cane or have a foot problem you have to navigate the stairway. The hand rail is less than great. There were no grab bars in the shower/bath. That was not ideal for those with minor mobility issues. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
