GEORGES WENGER - Le Noirmont

This is a very nice hotel within a ten minute walk to the center of Neuchatel, a really pretty Swiss town with a beautiful waterfront. The hotel is very artsy-fartsy but in a good way. Like almost all small Swiss hotels, there was no AC but they provide a large floor fan which was adequate as long as the windows were open. Quiet, posh neighborhood. Breakfast was OK - nothing special - but some of the best butter croissants we had on this trip. We were given a top floor room which was really nice.

The overall stay was good, no issues. I had booked two rooms with lake site view; we could see the lake but the hotel was not exactly at the lake... A little misleading.

Hotel de l'Ecluse is quite nice when visiting Neuchatel for either business or pleasure. I travel to Neuchatel about twice a year for business and always stay there, although I would not hesitate to stay on vacation. The rooms are very simple and efficient. A characteristically European bed and bathroom await (not overly large, but not cramped). The free wifi is really nice in a continent where everything is quite expensive. The staff is very friendly and speak English, although a minimal amount of French goes a long way. The breakfast is pleasant and I usually get it. The city attractions are a very short walk and there are a few very nice restaurants very close by. The area is not dodgy at all, just use common sense and you will be fine. The bus line is quite handy and the Ecluse stop is 1/2 block away. Do not let the proximity of the train tracks on a satellite view scare you, they are about 60 feet up in elevations and Swiss trains are ultra-quiet. I had a room facing the tracks and had to *try* to detect when a train would pass.
