Gorgeous, small property in northern Patagonia. We flew into Bariloches from Buenos Aires and drove for about 45-60 minutes to the hotel. The town of Villa La Angostura is small but has a few shops and restaurants. Las Balsas is secluded and quiet. The rooms are small and comfortable. Front desk, spa and food first class. The hotel is situated lake-front and the view across the lake towards the mountains is classic.

A Little Bit of Heaven in Patagonia. Serene hidden vintage interior design to die for and perfect linen. Perfectly located. It invites to relax and enjoy life, so "relais &chateaux" The panorama pool in the patagonian style architected spa with its view on Nahuel Huapi framed by the Andes is priceless. What rounds it all up is the staff. So calm, unpretentious, warm and welcoming, skilled and professional. They give a soul to this house and make you feel comfortable from the moment you step in the door till your departure. I left this hotel craving for more.
"Great escape! B&B feel with a gourmet chef."

This property is just beautiful. The accommodations comfortable. The staff incredibly friendly and accommodating. I do believe that out of a week in Bariloche, this place served three of our best meals and topped the Llao Llao gourmet resto. Also after staying at both places, I'm sure the next visit will be entirely in the more natural and quaint and personable Las Balsas. Only a couple of recommendations for the hotel and travelers. The floors are wood and quite squeaky. We had no problems in the end room (a suite) except getting up in the middle of the night. For the hotel, please remove the chemical air freshners from the spa and bathrooms. They cause sensitivities in many people and are so strong that you smell them throughout your site. Where your air is so clean and beautiful, why not use fresh natural deodorizers in harmony with this? Especially in the spa. Prices especially for the amazing food were very palatable. The whole staff speaks English and at least one speaks French. A must stay if going into this area of Patagonia. We took our kids 4-6 and they were graciously received and in heaven exploring over the course of our three day stay.

The setting for this hotel is outstanding. The rooms are nice and clean but slightly rustic .The amenities were not replaced after you used them so over our 3 nights there we had to reuse the shower cap and we ran out of tissue paper. The food was boring and we had the same menu throughout our stay. Its supposed to be a gourmet restaurant!!!!

Las Balsas was a wonderful place to stay in Villa la Angostura--slightly difficult to find but just keep an eye out for signs when driving down the main road into town. We couldn't have asked for a better staff--they were willing to help you with anything you needed whether it be to come up with itineraries, book restaurant reservations, confirm flights, etc. The food and wine at the restaurant in the hotel was delicious--one of the nights we were able to participate in a wine tasting and pairing done by Rutini which was quite fun. The hotel has a small beach right outside with stunning views of Nahuel Huapi Lake--the beach is public so there were a decent number of families that would show up in the afternoon though. We enjoyed the spa area as well--the pool is heated and there is a sauna. We did get massages but probably wouldn't get one from here again. Just seemed rushed and the masseuse only did one type of massage and not everything the spa menu listed. Overall, we did love this hotel and would definitely stay here again!!
"Beautiful place to stay in Patagonia!"

We have just returned from a 2 week trip to Argentina. Our last stop was 4 nights in Las Balsas in Villa la Angostura. We felt like we were guests in someone's very lovely & comfortable lake home. This hotel has only 10 or so rooms so very intimate setting. The indoor/outdoor pool was heated & was very welcome after a day of outside activities. We were there in January which is summer vacation for Argentines so many families there - also the Hotel's beach is public so a number of families with dogs & children come to share the beach. We went fly fishing on the Limay River & rode horses on Estancia El Margullo. One day we went into Bariloche & had lunch at Llao Llao Hotel. We were glad that we chose Las Balsas to stay instead of Llao Llao - too big & busy for our taste. Bariloche was a disappointment. The initial alpine architecture of the town has been lost in a sea of nondescript modern high-rises. In January Bariloche is overrun with huge numbers of teenagers on graduation trips. Much traffic & loud teenagers. The weather was very nice during our stay. We had 2 rooms with lake view- one with king bed & one with 2 twin beds which were very nice - no air conditioning but none was needed during our stay. The spa looked very nice but we did not use the spa. We loved staying at Las Balsas. It is a 45 minute walk into the small town of Villa la Angusturo but taxis are available. We ate most of our meals at the hotel & the food was very good. We would recommend this hotel to people who can appreciate a more personal & relaxed environment - we loved it!
"3 days of fun and great lodging in Las Balsas"
We love Las Balsas. This is my 3rd stay there and I always leave feeling I should have stayed an extra day. The service is super professional yet friendly / family like, which is difficult to achieve. The food is a superb mix of local dishes with a modern high end cuisine twist. The wine list is very fairly priced (drunk a Yacochuya 2001 and a Mendel 07 which were both fantastic and reasonably priced). The kids adore the hotel informality, the pier where they can jump into the lake and the beautiful swimming pool, last but not least the friendly dog!!!!... My only issue with it is that regular rooms are a bit noisy, but the spacious suites with their linen duvets more than make up for it!!!!!>...

Recommended by our travel agents. Rather hard to find but well worth it in the end. We hadn't booked but they gave us a lovely table outside beside the lake. The service was superb, top notch and the food absolutely excellent. Not surprised it is a Relais. Would definitely recommend.
"Don´t miss the chance to stay there!"

One of the best hotel that I´ve stayed in my life. It is well located, the view to Nahuel Huapi lake and to the Andes is simply perfect. The employees of the hotel treat you like a king all the time, giving tips on what to do, how to do, what to eat, and they are always asking you what they can do for you. Ignacio, Augustine, Paolo and others, you live in my heart now! =) The hotel is small, only 13 rooms, and they are all simple but elegant. L´occitane amenities, water bottles (free), chocolates and someone preparing the bed for you to sleep are kind of details that make Las Balsas perfect. Take your time to have a cup of homemade tea at the end of the day as well as for the breakfast. The waitress will bring you anything you want, fresh and delicious! Well, I love that place and will come back soon!

My family and I are Relais & Chateau enthusiasts, and we try to eat and stay at their properties everywhere we go. In fact, we just spent five wonderful days at Las Balsas, in Villa La Angostura. The place is gorgeous, the service impeccable, the food delicious. What a magical place in the south of Argentina. Nothing compares to this. However, I have to mention something that made our stay a bit unpleasant. On our second day, my daughters (aged 9 and 6) asked me about an ugly smell. They were right, something smelled, and it was cigar smoke. I asked the person at the front desk, and we found out that, indeed, someone was smoking a cigar. But not just someone. It was the owner of the hotel, who was here on a visit. Apparently he doesn't seem to listen to the complaints, and he smoked his cigar often. We counted four times. There were other, smaller kids at the hotel as well. It was not only rude and unhealthy for our children, it is also illegal to smoke indoors. There was no way of stopping him, as there is no way to stop me from writing this review. Next time we come here, we'll have to make sure no owner is around. Make sure you do, too. The place is so gorgeous and worthy of a visit, its a shame this guy spoils it for everyone.
