Room and facilities were very nice. Service needs some improvement. Back-up of cars for valet parking left us sitting in the street for 10 minutes being honked at before we could pull into driveway, then I had to look for someone to give keys to. No help was offered with our bags. Room service tray sat in hallway for 6 hours before being cleared. Most of the employees seemed dour and put out - which I don't expect in a 4 star hotel. Maybe because Philadephia is such a union town they have to accept that from employees.

The staff is really great at the Sofitel - helpful without being cloying. The place was clean and quiet and the room service was very good. The decor was modern and fresh looking, though the art was like an updated version of unoffensive lowest-common-denominator hotel art (in this case, pseudo-Zen). The bar area is nice -- hip, happening, warm. Generally a very nice place with excellent staff.

Everything was perfect. The rooms are very nice, elegant, clean and comfortable. The neighborhood is full of shopping and area around the hotel is clean and inviting and it feels safe. A city vacation at its best! The $36 valet parking is expensive, but not much more than the garages around, plus you can get your car in and out whenever you want with a 15 minute notice. Very convenient and nearby street parking is a nightmare.

Our two day hotel stay was wonderful. The Sofitel offered all the amenities you expect in a 4 star hotel. The room was very nicely decorated, had a beautiful marble bathroom and had one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in at a hotel. In addition, the staff was very pleasant and attentive. We would absolutely stay at this Sofitel again.

Overall my Sofitel experience was excellent with the exception of the day that I left the hotel for work at 8am and returned at 4pm and my room had not been cleaned. I was very upset given the expectation, branding and amount of money that I spent for the room. Other than this mishap, I really enjoyed my stay and I would return.

Many plus areas: excellent bed comfort; front desk, restaurant & lounge staff were super-accomodating; great location to walk to Convention Center or Rittenhouse Square; very safe. Only dissapointment was fragmented concierge service. Some that staffed the area were very helpful but one man scowled as I asked question and another (maybe it was a bellhop?) did not know answers to directions. But, if you got the right person, all was great.

This hotel was just a wonderful place to stay at. Central location, gorgeous room, best bed I have slept in for a long time, romantic yet functional without all the frou-frou. The concierge was wonderful and at the last minute we had to extend our stay by a day and the front desk agent got us another night in the same splendid room at an even lower price than we got via hotels.com. Even the bartender and staff were excellent and nice! Definitely would love to stay at Sofitel Philly in the future. Just a lovely, smoothe experience. My only gripe: You have to pay $7.95/24hrs. for wireless internet access which is rather silly in this day and age where it's virtually accessible almost everywhere (it's through T-Mobile so maybe if you already have an account with them you may not have to pay, but we don't use Tmobile so we had to pay).

The room service we ordered for breakfast arrived the minute we requested on the menu you hang on the door handle. Worth every penny and more! We look forward to staying there again.

Reviewed by Michael of Philadelphia on Aug 27, 2009
We've stayed at this hotel before and could not be more satisfied. This time however, we stayed in the same level room called a "superior King" but found out after a night of constant noise from a room nextdoor that it was infact a service room. After asking to be moved for the next night we found that all rooms that end in 25, (ex. 425, 525 etc..) are next to service rooms so the banging and door slamming we heard all night was hotel staff. The other piece was that all of the "25" type rooms are substantially smaller but they charge the same and call it a "Superior King" as well. The staff seemed to know what we were going to complain about before the words left our mouth but they graciously relocated us for the next night which was quiet, larger (normal size) and perfect. This hotel is top notch and I highly recommend it, just don't get a room ending in "25".

The service was sub-par for a four star hotel, the sound proofing in the rooms was terrible (we heard every slamming door and every conversation our neighbors were having), it was nice, but definitely not at the level I expected by any means. It felt more like a 2 or 3 star hotel. The only pros were the location and the gym. Would not stay here again.

Can't say enough good things about this hotel. Service was great, room was amazing and location was awesome. Wasn't a huge fan of the parking. It's valet only - $36 - and the hotel is located on a narrow street so there's just a small area directly in front of the hotel that the valet service is available. Given the small space, it's sometimes time consuming trying to exit the area depending on the number of cars being dropped off or picked up. Allow at least 15 minutes to have your car brought around to you.
