"a party hotel"
Our hotel room was clean, modern and the beds very comfortable. Perhaps we chose a bad weekend to come: heavy snow, families with young kids trapped indoors, at least one hen party. It was a busy, bustling environment - not the restful spa experience we expected. Restaurant food is adequate, but overpriced.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
First class mid week overnight stay. I stayed in one of the upper floor rooms. It was spacious and well furnished. One of the most comfortable hotel beds I have slept in. The room facilities were excellent, although it helped that am a coffee snob and dread finding only one sachet of Maxwell House next to the kettle normally (here you get Starbucks […] coffee and hot chocolate sachets!). The TV was a bit tricky to work and the advertising banner across the full Sky menu of channels was a bit irritating but the Freeview worked fine. The staff were great, breakfast was top notch and if I'd overcome feeble excuses not to go to the gym I'm sure the pool and gym would have been as good. I'll definitely return on a Manchester - North Wales overnighter next time. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"value and comfort"
With this hotel you know what you are going to get: great value, comfortable clean room and a quiet night's sleep. Breakfast is a good standard with friendly attentive waiting staff. Bar is completely missable unless you like flashing lights and no atmosphere.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Fantastic Christmas Treat"
Faced with sleeping on the floor at my Mum and sister's over Christmas, my girlfriend and I booked into here. What a lovely surprise! Clean and comfy rooms, not too busy, except at major meals: lunch and dinner. Then the hotel was bustling ... with people out to enjoy themselves. There was also the spa ... rather a surprise because we weren't looking […] for one. The gym equipment was fantastic ... and we even used it during the 4 hour opening period on Christmas Day. Best of all: it wasn't too expensive for our 3 night stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not worth the money"
Window was open in room when arrived, in November, struggled all night to heat room up, shower only luke warm despite being on full heat, bathrooms are tired and need a make over, not worth the moneyGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Had a good stay at the de vere village. Some very good points and some basics you don't expect from a 4 star hotel. Good points :- Gym is 1st class Staff are friendly and helpful Breakfast excellent Free wifi Good evening amenities & nice pub across the road Bad points Mold around the bath. No plug in bath Rooms close to dual carriageway desperately […] need proper glazing Arranged wake up call never materialized. No problem though as traffic kept us awake . They have upgraded rooms which may well give a better experience , but for us apart from the gym, the hotel was a disapointment. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
It is sixteen years since we used to regularly use the St Davids Hotel and we are sorry to say that we were disappointed. We felt that the hotel had deteriorated in a number of ways. The general decor of the place was dark and the way the dining room was furnished and the general service at meal times was nowhere near what we expected based on our previous […] experiences. Sorry to be so negative but I'm sure you want a true report. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very Nice Hotel with good facilities."
We only stayed at this hotel for one night however, We used the majority of facilities. We didn't check in to the hotel until early evening and we were directed to our room upon arrival. However, we were directed through the middle of a function that was taking place and this was a little bit annoying as we would rather have not weaved through the other […] guests to get to our room. We used both the Restaurant and bar facilities and found that the restaurant - although a little bit more expensive than usual - was fair in price. The bar was not as reasonably priced, but did provide entertainment. We used the nearby pub across the road for a little while that evening which was also worth a visit and was much more reasonably priced. The hotel was a good base as it was a good 8-10 miles out of Chester where we wanted to visit and was a little more quiet. Considering we visited the nearby Outlet Village too during our trip, it proved a useful location. We had booked a spa treatment a good while after our checkout and the hotel staff were still welcoming upon returning from nearby Chester that day. The Spa pricing was extremely reasonable compared to other places and was enjoyable. All in all I would recommend this hotel, the only disappointment was the function which we were directed through/not made aware of. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Never book this hotel"
I was promised that sofa bed and a safe will be provided. But hotel denied that all rooms with the facilities that I have paid are booked by other guests. I am not very happy, that hotel hasn't provided me with the facilities that I have paid for.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"very central hotel"
very nice hotel and facilities. Only downside was a joining door between our room and the next. Due to this we found it very noisy.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Alright but not good enough to recommend"
Hotel and staff were satisfactory with good 24hr check in. Rooms and room facilities on 3rd floor were disappointing.Genuine Expedia guest review
Only stayed 1 night to visit friends. Room was clean and modern and good mattress on bed, and although there was a wedding in the hotel there was no noise and our room looked out on the courtyard. Only slept in hotel so cannot comment on other services . Unfortunately there was a power cut in the morning so breakfast wasn't good, not very warm and no […] choice. Would stay again if in the area. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Serves a purpose!"
Probably not the best time to visit as it was the bank holiday weekend so it was very busy plus a wedding was being held at the venue. This meant queueing for evening meal and breakfasts. Lots of families there - so screaming children during meal times - not great. Food was good. Attention to detail was not sharp - in the room - had to mend the plug […] in sink as was jammed, batteries flat in remote for TV, lift was out of order. No ice and lemon in gin & tonic, no steak knife to eat steak with. There was no quiet area to sit away from loud sports screens as this area was taken over by the wedding. Staff were polite. "Not a family hotel"
Pool/changing room was COLD. No shampoo etc in bathroom. Breakfast was rubbish for 4-star hotel, coffee is from sachets! Hotel in middle of industrial estate. Room was for 4 but only 2 towels in bathroom? Booked last minute and now I know why the still had rooms available. Never again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable hotel in a convenient location."
Great location. Upper deck room spacious and comfortable. Older staff very friendly and courteous, younger staff disinterested. Corridors quiet and walls reasonably thick. Breakfast good, although can be very busy later in the morning. Not air conditioned so rooms quite hot in good weather. Restaurant fine, pub across the road better value.Genuine Expedia guest review
"5 night stay"
good access to the motorway system . however, nothing close to the hotel except a very good pub/restaurant named the Running Hare. Couldn't fault the room cleanliness. Decor of rooms a little dark. Could also have done with better lighting in the room. Only had dinner in the hotel restaurant once.It was the carvarey which was ok.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not baby friendly!"
This was our first break away with our 11 week old baby and we chose this hotel as we had stayed there about 4 yrs ago and we really liked it then plus it had a pool and our baby loves to be in water......however on the first visit to the pool around 6pm we were told that children aren't allowed into the pool after 5pm and no exception could made, despite […] there being no advertisement of this ruling on the website or at the hotel. The following day we made sure that we got back by 4pm so we could go swimming, however this time the pool was freezing!!! We told a staff member and he assured us that it was at 29C, but it felt like cold water with ice so we couldn't risk it with our baby. Later he returned to say that he would test it with a thermometer as there had been a few complaints of the last few days (simply dipping his toe in the water would have confirmed that it was definitely not 29C!!) We were also located in possibly the furthest away room and direct to a lift but still had to climb 7 stairs with a pram to get to our room. The hotel just wasn't as nice as previously and our room looked quite dated although clean and tidy and the baby changing facilities in the disabled toilet (which is a tight fit with a pram) near the bar stinks so I would never advise using those! Overall, good location for visiting Chester, Cheshire Oaks, Chester Zoo, Blue Planet Aquarium, Trafford Centre etc but the we won't be visiting this hotel ever again. "Avoid eating on Sunday"
The de Vere Hotel was - as a place to stay - ideal for a short break. However, we were there on a Sunday when the dining room was only operating as a 'Carvery' until 7.30pm so the choice for Sunday Evening Dinner was limited. The problem was most of the items had been on display long before we arrived. The Salad Bar had a few acceptable items, but most […] plates wee empty and had been so for a long time judging by the congealed state of the residue and they had not bben cleared when empty. A for the 'Carvery' A nice Ham, a well done (overcooked) tough Beef and a reconsituted lump puporting to be Turkey - not looking like a Bird of any kind but just a rolled lump. Seated promptly and then forgot about for any drinks order until we went to the bar to ask (about 10 minutes later). The sweet table was split between the cold area of the Carvery and a small (manned) table in the main dining area, but was, by now, again well passed its best. With 2 glasses of wine and the Carbery a bill of £42 was unbelieveable compared with normal Carvery prices, but our fault for chosing to eat in the Hotel. We saw otheres using the Bar Service with far better resujlts so p[erhaps there is a viable alternative, but if this is a normal Sunday practice, then you know the choice available to you. The rate for the room was brilliant and worth every penny so overall not a bad weekend. The included breakfast was as good as most Travelodges but well below any Hotel catering we have had, Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Will not be returning in a hurry!!"
The hotel room was not the same as discribed when it was booked, the bed was meant to be a double which actually was 2 singles pushed together with a sheet over them. There was a constent noise of running water coming from the bath room but could not find where it was coming from. The sink was very low to the ground, i think the room was designed for […] people who require wheel chairs. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Can stay with confidence."
What I've come to expect from Village. Good standard of decor, clean tidy with no fuss. Good pool and nice bar/restaurant. Grounds are nice and it's easy to find. Pub next door does cheaper food if you are on more of a budget (or just fancy something more straight forward - which we did!). Child friendly judging by the number of munchkins about not […] that they bothered during our stay. We were visiting Cheshire Oaks, admittedly it was some distance away but not long in the car along very good roads. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"OK for a short stay"
Rooms are basic with little storage. We stayed B@B. The service in the dining room was slow due to reduced staff since our last visit and the cleanliness, dirty plates, cracked cups needs addressing and food kept warm for too long resulted in drying out and not edible. Friendly and helpful staff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"LOVELY HOTEL, LIKED THE POOL FACILITIES."
Stayed at the hotel in April really enjoyed the pool and other facilities. Would have been helpful to know that the pool was closed to children after t time.Sharon.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Stayed at 3 hotels in the past week - Hilton in Northampton, Novotel in Heathrow and the de Verre Village in Chester St David's. The de Vere was certainly the poorest on a number of counts. Firstly the swimming pool was obviously geared for the non-residents Leisure Club, as hotel-resident children were not allowed into the pool after 5pm and had just […] a window in the morning of 9-11am. I even had to wait till the stroke of 9am before I was allowed in!! Also, the breakfast finishes at 10.00 sharp. Food was not replenished after 9.50. The coffe urn was removed at 10.00 and the buffet tables were unceremonially cleared at 10.01. I was left with the feeling that the hotel was being run to accommodate other people, not for the comfort of hotel guests. Food was limited and so we ended up going for a carvery meal in a nearby restaurant. The hotel promises much and looks the part from the inside (and happened to be the most expensive of the 3 hotels that we stayed at last week, but I certainly would not recommend it. This was the 2nd De Vere hotel we have stayed at in the last 6 months and it will probably be the last. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Chester Hotel - Not in Chester"
Seemed to be mostly family's on the Friday night we were there. Overrun bar and restaurant with screaming kids. Looks like wedding venue for following night, so expect it would be very busy! Given a room that was not cleaned properly, cups with tea bags still in them and looks like someone had been on the bed. Swooped to another room. Central courtyard […] fills with loud smokers/drinkers, so not much chance of a early night. Dated/worn fixtures. 7 miles from Chester, so don't expect to stroll into town. Breakfast ok. Overall, it's ok for a quick stop near Chester, but maybe not on a friday/saturday night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Stayed 2 nights on a girls weekend. Went to see Take That Tribute band on first night really good fun - the 3 course meal served was very disappointing. Leisure and gym facilities very good. Our stay at de Vere Villages was most satisfactory. Everything was perfect, even free WiFi. Lot's of nice spa facilities, too, but we didn't get a chance to worry about them. Had a 1 night stai in St David's. Room nice and clean, everything you could need in the room. Nice quiet location, no traffuic noise at night, close to Chester and all attractions.
