The Gresham Metropole - Cork

Getting there and figuring out parking was a little tricky but not too bad. We pulled up in front, went inside and got a stamped ticket for a parking garage about half a block away, you have to drive around the block to the entrance but can walk out the back door which is just half a block to hotel entrance. Our room keys wouldn't work the last morning, had to have front desk re-program them to get suitcases to check out, minor annoyance. Breakfast was good but rather overpriced. Didn't use the pool, gym, or other amenities. Neighborhood didn't seem like the best part of town but it wasn't bad and very close to city center, easy to walk everywhere. Read more

Nothing told us there was no air conditioning. Room was extremely hot when we checked in. Had to leave windows open all night and the noise from the street was terrible. Either be hot and not sleep or have noise from outside and not sleep. Either way, didn't sleep well at all.

The Gresham Metropole is a very nice, moderately priced "city" hotel. The rooms are a little small by American standards but clean and well-maintained. Up to date room in a very nice hotel. I had a view of the river and bridges. There was construction making it difficult to get to the hotel's car park, but the staff was wonderful in explaining where it was-- two people showed me with maps and looking at the road outside. Our first room smelled a lot like cig smoke so they moved us to another room immediately. It's a grand old hotel on a street with lots of small food places, coffee shop that's delicious and 3 great pubs. It's 2 blocks from more high ends shopping and about 6 blocks from the English market.

We went to Cork for a brief trip. The City Link bus dropped us off across the street from the hotel. The hotel is located about a 5-10 minute walk down the street from the railroad station, so the location of the hotel on our way in and way out was very convenient. The room and bathroom were small, but we were sightseeing, so a good location with a […] clean, quiet room was all we wanted and that is exactly what we got. The Everyman Theater is less than a block down the street. One of the actors in the play that was playing there rode the lift with us to the lobby and toldu us about his play. We decided to go to the play and were out all day. We did not have time to eat dinner and most places were going to be closed by the time the play finished. The clerk at the reception desk took an order for us before we left for the play and dinner was served shortly after we returned to the hotel. A nice touch and the food was very good. The room was small, but so was the bill. We would stay here again and hope to return to Corcaigh some day. Read more

I was so excited to stay here as the pictures and the reviews online looked so great. Not so. While the front desk staff was very nice and helpful, this hotel is more like a glorified Super 8 (for those of you that live out of the US, it's a clean, predictable, low budget, no frills motel chain) than a nice hotel. The room I had had very outdated furnishings […] and an old TV. Come on, really? The pillows were hard as rock. Really horrible. The breakfast was like industrial food, there was no energy or even beauty in the front lobby, the walls were super thin and when people walked own the hall, the room shook. When I told the "duty manager" my frustrations, in a nice way, he listened, but seemed inexperienced at handling such issues and didn't offer any thing to me. Infact, they still asked me to pay my minimal parking fee. Unbelievable. I wasn't looking for any kind of discount or re-imbursement, but the offer of one sure would have been nice. Read more

The iron, tea kettle and toilet seat weren't functioning properly. The hotel is older but well maintained. I told them of the problems I had and they were very apologetic. We ate at the met bar and it wasn't good. We aren't picky people but there was just a few things that needed to be improved.

I was in Cork for work, my first time visiting. This hotel was fabulous. Of course everything in Ireland is smaller than the states - so the room was a tad bit compact... however, being a solo traveler, it was perfect. the service was great, the complimentary breakfast was fantastic and the location was perfect!!! Best restaurant I've ever been to right […] across the street - Greene - absolutely amazing. And the friendliest pub just 3 doors down. This hotel is very clean and we were welcomed although it was a business like welcome. My biggest problem was that my toilet did not flush well. I reported this to the desk and they said that they sent someone from maintenance. However, when I returned, it was not fixed. I left a note to this effect in the room. I used the main floor guest bathroom […] because I could not use mine. My daughter used the pool and liked it although she did need to borrow a hotel bathing cap. It clearly was an atheletic pool, not one in which to lounge. . The car park is down the street. It is not a problem but we did have to plan for our trips in and out and watch the closing time of the garage. The heart of the city seems to be across the bridge so, is a 15 minute walk. However, the room rates seem to reflect the location. The hotel does have a nice bar/lounge. The breakfast is buffet and standard for the area. We also found a convenience mart with coffee and baked goods across the street. Read more

I recently stayed at the Gresham for one night with my boyfriend. The location was handy as it was close to the city centre but because it was close to the city centre it was quite noisy and I was woken at 7am by traffic. The breakfast was lovely and our room was clean.

Room clean and spacious but had to pay for overnight parking and at €12 each this was expensive. Also when paying the balance of the bill we had been overcharged, Breakfast was included in our deal and they tried to charge again for it. Scramled egg cold on buffet table but otherwise everything was good.

I booked the Metropole mainly for it's central location admittedly, and having stayed at it's sister hotel in Dublin previously I wasn't particularly concerned about the standard of accommodation. However the first room I was given was miniscule, boiling hot and lacking the requested refrigerator - I was upgraded for free to a 'deluxe' room by the very […] helpful receptionist, but even this was still very small. The hot water did not work properly the entire three days I was there, and the TV stations available were extremely limited, although the bed was very comfortable. Really enjoyed night in cork. Unfortunately room was not ready when we arrived at 2.55. Told it would be ready in ten minutes but wasn't so we were asked to take a seat in the lobby. While we were waiting we overheard an irate Dublin couple and their two teenage daughters complaining about some issue they had regarding their booking. The room was clean and the cleaning staff were helpful and pleasant. The hotel was extremely noisy even given that one night was the end of the Jazz weekend. I was woken three times by drunk guests trying to open the door having misread the room number. The pictures of the hotel on the website are extremely old since both the hotel and the leisure centre have dated/ aged poorly since these were taken.
