The Flamboyant Hotel & Villas - Grenada

You can't beat the Flamboyant for fantastic views of the bay. It's on a wonderful swimming beach which you can literally walk out to from the restaurant. The property is older and though management is doing a fantastic job of upkeep, the signs are there. As lovely as it is, the Flamboyant isn't readily user friendly for people with any type of disability […] or even minor aches and pains as the only way to get around the compound is either up or down numerous and at times steep stairways and ramps. Further locking of direct access gates at 6:30 pm, without signs guiding you as to how to get to your room, can make for quite a trek up and down those steep stairways and ramps until you find your room. Did I mention that for the most part these are uncovered steep stairways and ramps...There is a club car (golf cart) or two transporting people around but these aren't always available. The rooms are adequate, with their own iron and ironing board, which I like as I hate having to make a special request for such necessary items. The balcony with the view to the bay is really nice. Our flight came in early, almost nine am and left late around 6.00pm. we were allowed to do early check in and late check out. That was really great. We rented a vehicle to tour the island and the staff provided us with a cooler with ice each day we needed it. They had suggestions on places to visit.

The rooms are up on a hill, and the restaurant, bar, pool and beach are many, many steps down on the opposite side of the road. Your cardiovascular system will get a workout with this hotel. It is not at all appropriate for anyone with difficulty in climbing steps. Aside from that, it is a great place.

All of the staff at the hotel were extremely friendly and efficient. We were allowed to check in very early as we arrived at the hotel at 8:00am. This was excellent Customer Service. We did not have to pay any additional charges. Most hotels charge extra if you are checking in earlier than planned. I was very pleased with how we were treated at the […] front desk. We checked out early as well and they kept our handbags in a safe for us and allowed us to shower and change in their courtesy room. The guys at the bar were very pleasant and warm as well. This hotel was good for a few nights while traveling on business. If I were going on vacation, this would not be my first choice. It is very close to Grand Anse beach, and the views are spectacular. The hotel is on a steep hill side. The rooms are above the access road and the facilities are below the road. Walking down to eat was OK but it was equivalent to a 10-12 story building back up to our room. The hotel provides a courtesy cart so we only walked back up once. We arrived at around 7am and had called previously that week to ask about early check-in and they said they would see what they could do. Upon arrival, we checked in and they gave us our room key with no questions asked which was great. We went up one flight of stairs to our room, which was the superior room. There was a small kitchen with cooking utensils, […] one couch and a table with 2 chairs. The room however had 2 full size beds together to make a king size.. we called the front desk about this and they said they would change the mattress. We left the hotel and when we came back, thankfully they had changed the mattress to one king size. The maid service was excellent. Fresh towels everyday. We had to complain about a noise upstairs two times on separate occassions and that was resolved immediately. Only problem is the location of the hotel. It's quite a far walk to get anywhere besides the hotel dining. Tip: Walk along the beach. NY Bagels is great (closed on saturdays) and so is la boulangerie which are both about a 10 min walk along the beach. Read more

The hotel provides a beautiful view of Anse Beach/Bay. The staff were very friendly, yet they were very slow. Our one bedroom with a kitchenette was very old. The bathroom had some serious water damage that was not repaired by a professional. There was no remote for the TV; however, it was a large flatscreen. The flatscreen was in the bedroom with no […] TV in the common area. The neighbors next door were very noisy and a strange smell escaped from under the door which connected our rooms. We did not eat in the restaurant, as the restaurants were very expensive. The food did not look all that great anyway. Our teenagers had a regular room with two queen beds which was newer than our room. Their room was also much quieter than ours. They were higher on the hill, which meant they had more stairs to climb, but their view was beautiful. For the price, compared to other resorts we would probably stay here again. This hotel is not good for those who have trouble walking/climbing stairs. We loved the exercise! Good for the budget. Read more

We recently returned from the Flamboyant hotel. The staff was very friendly and the food was also good. Compared to the more expensive hotels, this was the best view of the beach and city. But be ready to do some walking, the hotel is situated on the hill, you have to walk down to the restaurant and beach. Not far about a 5min walk but hilly.

The hotel is really basic, is badly in need of a facelift. The rooms are VERY dated - circa 1982 and have a grungy feel (despite the efforts of the housekeeping staff). The staff is a mixed bag: some staff members were lovely but others were not. The security guard on the beach was useless. A beggar became verbally abusive to our group when we told […] him we had no cash. The security guard watched the entire episode from a few feet away but didn't lift a finger to help until I called him over to complain. He muttered a few words to the beggar and took off to the other end of the beach. The beggar stayed exactly where he was and continued insulting us. Another guest recounted a similar experience to us (same hostile beggar, same inaction on the part of the guard). Some of the front desk staff were clueless and unhelpful. One lady became defensive when I asked for towels in our room (the housekeeper did not leave any after cleaning our room). Another practically grunted into the phone instead of greeting us when we called. The restaurant staff were the friendliest. The front office manager was also helpful. All in all, it was an 'ok' experience. I would definitely try somewhere else next time. Read more

Nice hotel. Nice location. This hotel is high quality, and I would easily recommend it for anyone going to Grenada. It overlooks the beach, and every room have spectacular views. The facilities are also very high quality, with a good resturant and bar. The beach (which is one of the best beaches I have ever been to) is also just a few minutes walk. […] They also got a nice pool, though it was poorly maintained when I was visiting (off season). The only problem was the way they treated me when I asked for an extension of my stay. I was delayed by two days, and tried to reschedule my booking, but it was too late based on their cancellation policy and was charged for one night. I asked them when I arrived if I could get one extra day. After all, I had paid for three days, and would only stay for two. Strangly enough, the manager refused this request and gave me the explanation that "they had held the room just for me so they could not rent it to anyone else". This was during the off season, and there were not many guests at the hotel at the time I was staying there, so I have my doubts about the truth in that explanation. I would probably stayed a few more nights if they had been a bit flexible, but chose to take my business elsewhere after my two days at the Flamboyant. Read more

In Anbetracht der allgemein sehr hohen Preisstruktur der Insel hat das Hotel ein sehr gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Küchenzeile mit Kaffeemaschine und Kühlschrank sind sehr viel wert wenn man nicht täglich das Frühstück im Hotel zu sich nehmen möchte oder im Restaurant essen will. Leider wecken alleinreisende hellhäutige blonde Frauen automatisch […] den Verdacht "Mann gesucht". Man kann es den "Locals" nicht verdenken, da viele amerikanische resp. britische Frauen mit gutaussehenden Insulanern das allgemeine Straßenbild beherrschen. Erst mehrtägiges konsequentes Ablehnen der Annäherungsversuche führt dazu dass man seinen Urlaub in Ruhe geniessen kann. Unangenehmerweise wird man auch von einigen männlichen Hotelangestellten belagert, auch vom Securitypersonal, welches dann doch ein etwas mulmiges Gefühl erzeugt. Nach einigen Tagen und mit zunehmendem Bräunungsgrad der Haut scheint es sich jedoch rumzusprechen dass man einfach nur einen sportlichen, gemütlichen Urlaub verbringen möchte und auf männliche Begleitung keinen Wert legt. Die Lage des Hotels ist leider etwas abseits - der lokale Bus ist nur mit ca. 10 - 15 Minuten Fussmarsch (schlecht beleuchtet) zu erreichen (Bus EC Dollar 2,50 zur Innenstadt, Taxi EC Dollar 40), das gleiche gilt für Restaurants oder Supermarkt. Somit ist abends nur Hotel angesagt oder das teure Taxi. Read more
