Topaz hotel is quaint, quiet and quirky. It has that contemporary design edge that makes a good boutique hotel. It is small and lacks some amenities like an on-site gym, pool, etc., but the staff are very effective and make you feel at home.

I've been to the hotels bar a few times but never stayed. When I initially reserved the hotel I didn't have too many expectations and just assumed it was going to be another DC hotel (too expensive and little to go back to) but to my surprise it was every spacious, clean, and very "old style" hotel. I must say this is the best hotel I have ever stayed at and I will repeat "EVER". From the moment you walk in, the front desk greets you warmly and helps you whatever you may need. I also work in a service industry and we are "scripted" so I can spot phoney service very easily. They have complimentary beverages in the morning, afternoon and evening. […] They lent us a "free wheelchair" for one of our guest to take around DC for the entire stay. Raining in the summer -no problem - we got complimentary free umbrellas to use. I fell and skinned both knees while walking - the front desk noticed it right away and gave me 4 bandaids right away, Room key got demangnetized - re-keyed my room without fuss. Our hotel room was smaller than our kids so they graciously found us a room of equal size. The hotel room was very spacious and we had a separate sitting area and dressing area....impressive for a DC hotel. The hotel even printed our boarding passes for us and slipped them under our door within 30 minutes of our request. They called taxis for us, they gave us restaurants recommendations., they did it ALL and more. The hotel staff response was always "NO PROBLEM" "MY PLEASURE" - music to my ears. I especially want to recognize "CANDANCE" at the front desk. She always went above and beyond in performing her job!!! Everyone on the staff was super; very friendly and hepful. The room was very comfortable. The bathroom was a little small though. It was in a great location for us since we took the Metro everywhere. It was on a quiet street which was nice. I would definitely stay here again.

My girlfriends and I were in D.C. after a wedding, and wanted a cool but affordable place to stay. The Topaz hotel was very stylish and fun, in a great location in Dupont Circle, and by the metro, bars, and restaurants. We enjoyed brunch at Circa (a 10 min walk from the hotel). We had a good-sized room for three of us, and they brought up a day bed. […] One complaint was that they didn't make the day bed, but just gave us sheets to make it. My other complaint would be that they didn't put enough towels in the room for three people, and when we asked them to bring a couple more towel sets up, they didn't bring up washcloths, so we had to call down again. But they brought both up very promptly! The staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. They told us about free parking across the street- we were there on a Sunday and a holiday, so that was nice. They also grabbed a cab for us when we called down, and checked our bags while we were out for the day after checking out. I've stayed at two different Kimpton properties and and really liked the decor and service at both. This was not ideal for a family get-away (we have a little one), but it was manageable with a a kid. We wanted a hotel that was not typical corporate but quiet, near restaurants and entertainment, and convenient for sight seeing. This definitely fit the […] bill. We stayed with 2 teenage kids in a 2 queen sized bedroom.The room was very spacious, very clean, great beds with very soft sheets, quiet and contemporay. Great location, very helpful staff.Just one problem, we thought that if the do not disturb sign was on the nob, well that would mean no one is to enter at any time.Not so, the person who checks the inventory of the in room snack bar, just came on in while my room mate was deep asleep!!Really scared her bad!! The front desk was notified.

very well located hotel close to the Washington Mall, restaurants and bars of Georgetown. very clean hotel. but, VERY, VERY EXPENSIVE PARKING- $41/ NIGHT ($48 WITH TAXES). Colonial parking is available in this area but, it is closed in the week end...

Very friendly and competent staff. Really nice large king suite room was very comfortable, good bed. One elevator was out of service our entire stay (3 days), but the other one worked well. Topax is well located, only about a block below Dupont Circle. Plenty of restaurants on Connecticut Ave, and this is clearly the night life of D.C. also. But hotel […] is a half block off, and was plenty quiet. We followed the lead of a previous reviewer and parked at the garage on M Street for $20/day, instead of using valet.
