Lovely stay Paul & Brian were brillant as usual. Only thing we are coffee drinker and they could do with investing in a good coffee machine. The days of the stewed coffee are well gone.

"THE place to stay in Clifden"
We stayed here over 10 years ago and were wary that the hotel may not have been maintained well. We were wrong. The entire experience was excellent, from the service, to the room, to the complimentary tea/scones each afternoon, the complimentary champagne each night - we totally recommend this hotel for a break in west Galway.

"Amazing!!!"
Staying at this Castle Hotel was one of the highlights of our trip to Ireland. I recommend it highly to anyone traveling the west coast of Ireland. It is a bit out of the way but the scenery on the drive make it more than worthwhile.

"A Welcoming Environment"
This hotel has terrific character. The room was excellent with a superb view. Entry was welcoming with a turf fire in the entry foyer and a complimentary afternoon tea. A champagne reception was provided later with a history of the castle provided. The restaurant was absolutely wonderful and service for hotel guests was personalized. Breakfast was top end.

"Great Hotel - Would Recommend It"
We had a very nice large room with a great view. We stayed 5 nights and enjoyed the "extras" such as free tea and scones at 4pm and free champagne at 6.30pm. The food is plentiful both at breakfast and dinner, perhaps a greater variation of the dinner menu wouldn't have gone amiss as it seemed to be a bit samey over the 5 nights but that is me really being a bit picky. Brian and his father are great hosts and put a lot of effort into interacting and pleasing their guests. The hotel is a great base from which to explore the area. Stanley the parrot in reception is a class act!

"Would do it agian!"
Arrived just as the restaurant was closing but they called up and we had our meal. Brian greeted us and remembered our names for the rest of the stay. Went to have a drink in the pub at 9:30pm and ended up staying until 2am singinging and listening to jokes with a group of Dubliners. Great advice on where to go and what to do in the area from the locals. Made our trip! Don't miss it!

"The Wow Factor"
This was just an overnight break, but boy, with a difference. Friendliness, complimentary Coffee & Scones on arrival, comfort, great service, great staff, hands on Owner, excellent food for our meal, they even sang Happy Birthday to me after with a lovely meringue nest c/w sparklers. Now what more could a body ask for. Well yes, of course not to forget the talking Parrot in the Lobby. Also Very Friendly :-))) What a Fab place this is to Stay. We Will Be BACK. Many Thanks to you all in Abbeyglen.

"Finest of dining!!!!"

Food glorious food!!! Words will not describe the scrumptious feast that awaits the diner entering this haven perched upon the hillside! All I can say is do not eat for the day prior to coming here! You are in for a culinary delight, tasty starters followed by sumptuous mains but the creme de la creme is the dessert table perched at the entrance as you walk in! Laden with tarts, pies, ice creams, crepes, banoffi, cheesecake... It's like a genie made your wishes come true and said forget the calories........enjoy!!!!!

"Outstanding hospitality and welcome at the Abbeyglen!"
08/25/15 OrlsB Ireland
We recently stayed in a family group at the Abbeyglen and had a "wow" time from arrival to departure almost a week later. Wonderful atmosphere and welcome, enormous attention towards creating a really special experience for all guests and truly delicious, fresh amazing food and service. Mouth watering oysters, Connemara lamb and simply the tastiest crab claws in the west of Ireland all deserve special mention. Service at dinner and breakfast unbelievably attentive. The fab Yonka Spa managed by Michelle is a complete oasis of calm and delight.Delicious facials, pedi/mani treatments and much more. Simply delightful! Enormous thanks to Brian, Michelle and the entire Abbeyglen team for taking care of the clan! We had a ball in Connemara, our visit to Inisturk stands out among many highlights. Great music, songs, crack and laughter defined our visit and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Amazing! Thank you! Congratulations!!

"Charming break with personal touches "
08/22/15 Rob J Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom
On arrival at Abbeyglen I felt a little apprehensive at the lack of the mod-cons we have come to expect through various hotel stays. My doubts were smashed by the generosity and friendliness of the staff team within the hotel. On arrival we were sat down for complimentary afternoon tea which was a treat after a long journey. That same evening we were also invited to a complimentary champagne reception with a talk on the local area. This hotel offers an unusual experience and would benefit from some refurbishments in the not too distant future.

"Mixed feelings, needs some refurbishment"
08/21/15 Binsfeld N Luxembourg City, Luxembourg
a nice castle hotel with large rooms that are overall a bit outdated. thus the shower in our room for example did not work, the battery of the safe seemed to have some problems as well, We had a superior ie a very large room with some seating area and a large comfortable bed. We also ate at the restaurant which was just about ok but towards the higher pricing range. Having said that the staff was friendly and helpful and they have two comfortable bar that offer a well priced range of wines, beers and cocktails.

"Old castle...good and bad"
08/20/15 CTtraveler6665 Monmouth, Illinois
So if you get the concept that you are staying in an old castle it's pretty cool - the peat fire and cozy bar, comfy seating for the lobby and lounge to play card games or use wifi. There is not wifi in the rooms (it's a castle!) and the rooms are not modern (and do need a cobweb cleaning which I did while there) but it's an experience.

"Great stay"
08/18/15 Ben N Oak Park, United States
Our group of three stayed two nights. While not the best hotel there is, we really liked it. The host was very friendly and the food was a bit better than average. It was a bit expensive but we only had one dinner there. The breakfast was very good. We would stay there again. However, I am still curious as to why they have two helipads.

From beginning to end, our trip to Abbeyglen was amazing! We were treated like a prince and princess the moment we stepped inside the castle. We thoroughlt enjoyed the informative stories, prosecco and nibbles - complimentary - before dinner. Staff were so attentive and assisted us in every way they could. The food was melt in the mouth at both dinner and breakfast and the touches like your country flag on yhe table were just class. We also go engaged in the piano bar and the cava and good wishes were flowing. They even gave us a dated photo card of the best night o our lives. Thank you Abbeyglen! We will be back again very soon!

"One of the highlights of our trip"
08/17/15 bjilek Tampa, Florida
We had a wonderful experience staying at the Abbeyglen Castle Hotel. The staff went out of their way to make our experience outstanding. Having great bartenders (Lavinic and Roger) with spectacular entertainment (Brian, Dermot, and Mark) made it a memorable experience. Food was very good and reasonable, but the after dinner entertainment is worth the trip alone.

"Beautiful Setting But Hotel Is Dirty and Rundown"
08/15/15 CaliPalosVerdes Rolling Hills Estates, California
The whole concept of staying in a castle hotel is very romantic, but the reality of our visit was disheartening. As a family of four, we occupied two rooms. The first thing we noticed was the base of the toilet was leaking all over the floor of one of the rooms. The next problem was the constant and noisy running of the toilets after we flushed. The third difficulty was the lousy internet service, very weak in one room and nonexistent in the other. The fourth thing that bothered us was the dust and dirt everywhere, including cobwebs hanging on furniture and in corners. The hotel's dining area was charming, but, once again, we noticed that the menu jackets were very worn and needed replacement. Overall, our impression was that the hotel has seen better days, needs updating, and definitely needs a new director of housekeeping. On the positive side, Froda, the parrot mascot, is charming, and most of the hotel staff is quite cordial.

"Gross.. Never Again"
08/15/15 g1ng3r_girl
I get that it's a castle on the OUTSIDE.. but it is no where near castle-level-cool on the inside. More of a drab, dirty, and outdated hotel riding on the coattails of of having once been a castle. I doubt any remodeling of any kind has been done in the last 50 years at least. You can hear everything through the walls, including the VERY squeaky floors above, outside and next to the rooms. My room had dirty walls, curtains, and carpet. There were spiders and mosquitos as well as water stains on everything. Cobwebs on top of the super gaudy bed canopy. The bath water is brown, which they explain is normal for the area. My door wouldn't close all the way, but it might as well have been fabric because you can hear everything in the hall. We thought the restaurant pricing was really high for what we got, and the desserts were just a buffet of sugary concoctions that were nothing special at all. The wait staff are plentiful and friendly, and they do wait on your table hand and foot. The owner/manager was described to us as "cooky, maybe a little mad even", and it is just so. The most charming thing is that they put little flags representing your nationality on all the dinner tables and it is interesting to see where everyone is from. That was a nice touch. I most certainly will not be staying here again and I would recommend against it, castle or no castle.
