"Not a castle"
Dinner was good and great evening reception. However, did not meet the image of a castle which was presented online. Area of hotel was quite boring.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Would do it agian!"
Arrived just as the restaurant was closing but they called up and we had our meal. Brian greeted us and remembered our names for the rest of the stay. Went to have a drink in the pub at 9:30pm and ended up staying until 2am singinging and listening to jokes with a group of Dubliners. Great advice on where to go and what to do in the area from the locals. […] Made our trip! Don't miss it! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"The Wow Factor"
This was just an overnight break, but boy, with a difference. Friendliness, complimentary Coffee & Scones on arrival, comfort, great service, great staff, hands on Owner, excellent food for our meal, they even sang Happy Birthday to me after with a lovely meringue nest c/w sparklers. Now what more could a body ask for. Well yes, of course not to forget […] the talking Parrot in the Lobby. Also Very Friendly :-))) What a Fab place this is to Stay. We Will Be BACK. The hotel owner and staff was extremely friendly. The interior of the hotel is not 4star standard to our opinion and a little worn out. Overall we had a pleasant stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We were offered dessert and tea/coffee, but when leaving we were charged.not very clear on charges. Maybe could be clearer, but otherwise excellent.

I have visited the Abbeyglen on a few occasions now and a warm welcome always awaits. Great food and great fun is part of any visit to Abbeyglen. The dessert table is a particular favourite. I always look forward to going back again.
"Great country castle. ."

This was a quaint country castle. Great service, friendly and it has so much to give. The food, the staff, the owner were all so wonderful! We celebrated my daughter's birthday and they made it so memorable. The whole area has a lot of fun to offer. It is a must see if you go to Ireland.

We decided on the Abbeyglen castle hotel as the venue for my sister's hen party. The hotel exceeded all expectations!! Nothing was too much to ask and the owner & staff went above and beyond to accommodate us! The hotel is such fun with a great sing song in the bar every night! The meal was very tasty and service was great. It is definitely the staff that make the Abbeyglen! They are helpful, friendly and so accommodating! Whether it's a romantic night away or a group of friends for a weekend away just book it- you won't be disappointed!! Thank you Paul (x2) Roger etc for making our weekend such a memorable one! We will be back again soon.

The staff at this hotel were SO helpful, kind, and courteous. The hotel is well kept and clean. The rooms are huge! My only complaint is the shower door only covers half the shower and no matter what I did, the bathroom floor got very wet.
"A very enjoyable return to the Castle on Sea Road!"

We had a return visit to this unique recently and were not disappointed. From a wonderful welcome at reception on our arrival to occupying a lovely room on the first floor, we were really pleased. The smell of the turf fires in the relaxing areas of the hotel are wonderful, as is the atmosphere in the adjoining lounge bar. Afternoon tea and pre-dinner Prosecco are served in the bar which has wonderful music every evening. Dinner and breakfast are served in the first floor dining room, both of a very high standard. The staff throughout the hotel are excellent and most caring to your every need. This hotel is a credit to the owners - The Hughes family.

This is the best castle hotel to stay in the west of Ireland. If you want to experience what a true irish hospitality is like. Then you have to stay here. Rooms / service / staff/ 100% Stayed here a few times and absolutley love this place. Only drawback is no wi fi in the rooms or aound hotel. To me Wi fi is a must no matter where you stay. I hope the abbeyglen take this on board.
"Everyone should stay in a castle!"
03/13/15 psych4trvl Fort Worth, Texas
I stayed one night here to surprise my Dad (his first trip to Ireland and everyone should stay in a castle in their lifetime). I thought it was an OK experience. You stay here because it's a castle; however, it doesn't have that castle feel. I don't know how to describe that feeling, but I had it in another castle I stayed at on a previous trip. I'm dropping stars for the following: Wifi - it was poor. No wifi in the rooms (OK, I get it, it's a castle with thick walls). But the wifi in the lobby was awful. My Facetime calls kept dropping (and I'm getting Facetime at every other B&B/hotel in this country) and even iMessages weren't going through. Finally got a signal outside! Of all places! Shower - OK, this may be partly my fault. European hotels seem to love the useless half glass shower door. However, many do not have the rubber seal on the bottom. So guess what happens? Yup, water slides down the door and then through the crack. Water all over the floor!! The solution is to pull the door closer to you, but then you have no room. Also, the manager at breakfast was asking people to rate the hotel on Tripadvisor. I HATE when hotels do this. It just has a sleazy feel to it. Otherwise, we slept well, front desk staff were pleasant, and breakfast was nice. It's about a 10 minute walk from the town. Hotel is right on the sky road loop, so it makes it easy to start that drive in the morning. Would I return? Probably not. You are paying a premium for a castle experience and the rest of the amenities are not there. Either pony up for Ashford prices or do one of the more authentic (i.e., rustic) castles.
"The friendly castle"
03/11/15 dallymc Millet, Alberta, Canada
We spent one night here on our honeymoon. The room was large and beautifully appointed though the in-room glasses were dirty. The dining room was delicious and elegant for breakfast and dinner with friendly and staff very knowledgable and willing share about the area. The other patrons were super friendly - I can't remember another dinner when we were approached so often for conversations. It was a lovely place our main concern was cleanliness, if the glasses weren't changed what else wasn't changed?

My wife and I have just returned from a most enjoyable sojourn at the Abbeyglen. Brian and Paul Hughes [ owners ] are true hoteliers. They exhibit how a 4 star should be managed, from the welcome we received from the Concierge to the magnificent cuisine. Only the finest linens are in use. It is refreshing to sit at a table adorned with white crisp tablecloths. Freshly pressed orange juice sat on an impressive breakfast buffet. The hot breakfast reflected the best of local produce. Dinner was faultless, from the choice on the menu to the presentation of the food. What was important was the flavours of the ingredients which shone. But equally important, both the food and the plate it was served on was very hot. Brian has compiled a most eclectic wine list. One of the finest I have witnessed. An Italian red we enjoyed was the proof. Housekeeping was perfect. A beautiful room looking towards the sunrise and the 12 Bens. But then we booked direct with the hotel! This hotel is one of the finest 4 star hotels in Ireland. Actually it sets the standard for others to aspire to. The Abbeyglen is hospitaility personified. Extremely highly recommended.
