We stayed one night but our room was really big with a chimney, couch, big table and a nice view. We wanted to stay in a luxury hotel and we go one.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The atmosphere on this hotel is charming, warm, cosy and friendly. It is a bit quirky, and that was what we were looking for. Great food in the evenings, good breakfastbuffé with lot off staff filling up your coffe. Very silent corridors. Our 2-yearold enjoyed the fontain, the large lawn and the playground just outside the property. It is a nice walk, just 3 min to Clifden. A few shops were closed for the season, but there were enough for us. We went for the suggested walk with provided map. It was beautiful! But dont beleive them when they say it takes 45 minutes ;), it might do that when your powerwalking. We walked with our 2-yearold, sometimes carrying her, sometimes she walked herself. That took 1,5 hours and we did not walk down to the Clifden castle. A healthy couple in their 70-s said they walked it in an hour. Worth the time, though! When we arrived we had been upgraded (complimentary) to a suite, our 2-yearold could sleep in the livingroom, very, very nice. The view from the room was really great. The feeling in the room was luxury. A bit old and worn, we had a little hole in the worn bedspreads, a handle in a drawer was broken, but overall really nice. Our 17-yearold had an own room. It was nice, big bed. No view, it was to the back, just a lawn and bushes, not ugly in any way. Our beds was nice, a bit too hard. Two negative things is that it was very warm inside the castle, and the shower was fixed.
"Great place to stay"

Abbeyglen is a wonderful place to start an Irish vacation. The room was nice, quaint and clean. The castle seems to be well maintained with a very friendly helpful staff. The food was good and there was lots of it. The bar/reception was a great experience to hear some local music and meet some wonderful fellow guests from Wales, also on vacation. The location provides a great view of the town of Clifton.

We spent the last two nights of our two week trip at this beautiful hotel. We ate dinner here both nights and our meals were excellent. The happy hour history chat is fun and informative. The location is perfect for enjoying the beautiful drives around Connemara. We would have loved to have spent more time in this location.

We stayed one night in September. Had a beautiful room on the main floor. Moira checked us in and was lovely. Breakfast was served in a sunny dining room and the buffet was delicious and had something for everyone. Even had some smoked salmon and croissant along with the regular Irish breakfast. We would highly recommend this hotel. Sadly, we only stayed one night but wish it had been longer. Walking distance to Clifden, a gorgeous little town. Be sure to visit Lowry's for a pint of Guinness.

We spent one night at Abbeyglen, and wished we could've actually stayed longer. The rooms and building are old but sound, and it adds to the atmosphere of staying in a castle. You feel part of the family, as there is welcome champagne and snacks in the early evening and a small history lesson about the hotel and the area. In the dining room, each table has a small flag representing the nationality of the diners at the table. The owner came around a took a picture of us at the beginning of the evening meal, and we were each given a printed copy in a commemorative folder by the end of the meal. The food was fantastic, especially the breakfast. Could go back to Ireland just to stay there.
"Not as good as it used to be"

We have been coming for three to five nights for years. Last year we thought things had slipped -cheaper meat cuts etc - but sadly things haven't improved this year. Hotel still lovely, rooms excellent, service almost as good as always, but the food is really a disappiintment. Menu changes little from day to day. If you love fish and pork belly you'll be fine. If not, you may find enough to eat on day 1 and day 2, but you might find the food very boring after that. Very disappointing. The lovely breakfasts to order are no more. All now served from hot plates. The Abbeyglen experience was so much more than a good room, it was a package that made each customer feel special. Now come and enjoy the room, but think carefully before booking the all inclusive option
"Home away from home "
We spent two nights at Abbeyglen on our vacation and did not want to leave. The staff is so wonderful. Roger, the barkeep is incredibly funny and charming. Brian the owner makes you feel like family from the moment you walk in. We ended up back at the hotel instead of hitting the town on our second night because listening to the nightly music and chatting with other guests was so much fun. The rooms are elegant and clean. Super comfy beds, and breakfast was delicious. It is an easy walk to downtown Clifden and close to a number of must-see locations in Connemara. I would recommend this stay to anyone.

Cannot express just how much fun we had. Gracious service from all the staff. Quirky hotel but in the best way...... The evenings in the bar with Brian playing piano, Roger quipping and Niles smiles... superb! The spa was a fantastic experience and I highly recommend. Fellow guests were quick to engage and the whole experience was simply a pleasure. If we had known this was in store we would have skipped the two prior hotels we stayed at on our journey and went straight to the Abbeyglen! The village of Clifden was a joy too.

A beautiful location just outside the charming and great shopping town of Clifden in gorgeous Connemara. The gem of the hotel is the lovely staff who are warm, welcoming, attentive and charming. We arrived in the rain after a lovely hike in Connemara National Park to be greeted with complimentary tea and scones in the lounge area. All the little extras like champagne cocktails and the superb piano player made the stay so much more enjoyable. This was our second stay and we hope to be back again!

9 Jul Our favorite overnight stay of our trip! Three words: hospitality, service and grace. The staff at Abbyglen Castle Hotel treats you like royalty -- or better yet, family. Simply put, this is an amazing, must-visit place. Located on a hill overlooking the town, Abbyglen has everything you need in one hillside retreat. Fabulous food, a champagne and hors d'oeuvre reception (an unexpected treat on our visit), and a parrot named Gilbert who wolf-whistles at the ladies. We ate a most delicious and memorable dinner in their delightful restaurant. I have fond memories of their Clew Bay mussels. Breakfast was amazing as well, so many offerings to choose from. Our room was enchanting, with a four-poster bed, fireplace, coupled with a gorgeous view. The amazing ensuite bath boasted a claw-foot tub, a thoroughly modern shower and a delightful pull-chain commode (being American I found it delightful, our history only extends a few hundred years so the quaint charm of antiquity often beguiles me). Old world elegance steeped in Irish charm and welcome. If you hadn't planned on stopping in Clifden - do yourself a favor and take a quick little detour - you won't be disappointed. Say hello to Gilbert and the fine staff at Abbyglen Castle Hotel for me.
