The Royal Eagle is in a perfect location - close to Paddington station and a short walk to the lovely Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park. The rooms were small, quaint and did not have much in terms of extras, but the sleeping area was adequate. The bathroom was incredibly small, but we didn't need too much for just a 2 night stay. There was also light construction going on in the hotel and every hammer could be heard, but not at an unreasonable hour. First off, this isn't as horrifying as some other reviewers make it out to be. The rooms are VERY small. The bathroom is slightly larger than the wash room that they have in a standard airline flight in the economy section. The towels were very rough to the skin. I highly recommend bringing a better quality towel. They also don't give enough shampoo […] (no conditioner), bath gel, or soap. They also don't have a socket next to the bed, so you may want to request for an extension cord. The window will most likely be broken (you'll want to call maintenance for that, which will give you a small nail to toggle the broken flap - it's a two-man feat to work the window while toggling the broken lock). Also, if the staff is friendly enough, ask for a fan. They actually provide that but won't go out of their way to recommend one. The beds are also clean, but pretty lumpy. Also, I hope you bring an alarm clock with you - they don't have a clock available in the room. So I had to always have my phone charged next to the bed to act as a watch / alarm clock to wake us up every morning. On a good note - this place is walking distance from the Paddington Station (the underground) - it's a pretty good location. Read more

One of the smallest/narrowest rooms i have ever stayed. (although i paid extra for a bigger room) You cannot even wash your face without splitting all the water to the floor because of the tiny basin. This is the first time i have seen a restroom (WC) without a toilet brush.

The location on this hotel is great, it is very close to Paddington Station. The neighborhood is decent and seemed very safe. The room I stayed in was extremely small ( too small). The bathroom was tiny, you could wash your face cause the sink was so small. I could hear everything that was going on the hall and the other rooms.

I wanted a reasonably priced hotel near Hyde Park. This was just a stroll away from both Paddington station & Hyde Park. The room was tiny (expected per previous English stays) and overall clean. However, our bathroom had absolutely no ventilation as this hotel is an older building, steamed up immediately (and stayed that way until we opened the window) […] and smelled moldy. I saw little bits of it towards the top of the shower. Staff was very friendly the first day, but I was foolish enough to pay the 30 pound weekly fee for their wireless internet which only worked 3 of the 5 days I tried to use it. Upon checkout, they still charged me 25 pounds (it's typically 10/day) which I thought was outrageous when you consider just $30, let alone pounds, is a month's worth of internet in the states. Aside from that, I have no qualms with the place really. There's a great Italian restaurant just a block away & the tube stop's maybe 2-3 blocks straight up the road. Not bad at all. Read more

Room and bathroom was exceptionally small and staff were not helpful at all when we asked them to fix a faulty toilet that would not flush properly during our stay. We stayed at the Royal Eagle for 2 nights in May at the beginning of our trip, then again for 1 night at the end. We were flying between JFK and London Heathrow. The hotel is in a great location, we walked to restaurants, Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens - took a train from Heathrow to Paddington and walked 2 blocks to hotel. We used the underground to […] get to St. Pancras for a train to Paris. We hopped on a bus and went to Buckingham Palace - a short distance. The rooms are small but updated, staff was friendly. Best price in the area that I could find for a clean and comfortable room. Hotel has a lift, worst thing is that they do not have a place to hold luggage for you - so plan accordingly. On our orginal arrival - we were at the hotel by 9am, by 10:30 - they had a room available and allowed us to check in early. They charge 10pounds a day for internet - but with the room price - it doesn't make any difference. We were surprised that any hotel would charge for internet - but evidently not unusual in London. This was badly overpriced. I was 'upgraded' to a room with three twin beds and a double, but the double was up a spiral staircase from the entrance and bathroom. The twin bed I slept on instead sagged badly. There is no luggage room, so you can't leave bags there on arrival or check-out. The very narrow hallways are badly scuffed and a bit shabby. […] There are stairs between the elevators/lifts and many rooms. We also took the train to Disneyland-Paris as well as the airport. We were suppose to have been able to fly out the next morning but found out the flight was […] cancelled and we asked if we could use the hotel pc to try and get a new flight since the airlines was not answering phones. NO WAY!!!!!! we had to walk down to McDonalds to try and take care of everything. I totally understand during normal times that the hotel would not want everyone on their PC's. Very clean and everything in the room worked fine. Very small room. We had a three bed triple and there is very little floor space other than that used by three beds and 1 desk. Location less than two blocks from Paddington Station. Worked great for us because all we wanted to do was sleep and shower there. Location was great for us.
