"LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
This little hotel has location, location, location! It is less than 5-10 minutes walking distance to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, & Tempolo Adriano. It is about 15-20 minutes from the Coliseum, the Forum, and Vittoria Emmanuelle, around 25-30 minutes from Piazza del Popolo, and a half hour from the Vatican. Seconds away from the main artery Via Del Corso, you can’t get a better location for a more reasonable price. The front desk staff is wonderful and Tomosso in particular will not hesitate to recommend the best restaurants and tell you how to get to all the sites within Rome. He recommended fabulous restaurants and mapped out a walkable itinerary of sites daily for us. If you don’t care to walk, the hop on hop off bus is two minutes away. What really sets this hotel apart is the 5th floor outside deck with a panoramic view which is used for breakfast in the morning and a possible night cap at night. What a way to start and end a day. It was beyond gorgeous and really a delightful highlight to a memorable stay in Rome. The rooms are big enough to accommodate two easily and are clean and neat. The only difficulty I encountered was that I was unable to connect to Wi-Fi but instead used the downstairs computer. Some of the rooms on the upper floors are only accessible by a short stairway which is difficult with heavy luggage. Other than that, our stay was perfect and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Excellent, convenience to airport was essential.

We did not get information that payment by card was not accepted. The breakfast was poor, bread from yesterday, cerials too sweet. The juice was more like lemonade than fruit-juice.
"Would stay there again"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Had a great experience. Our triple room was clean and bed very comfortable, including pillows. 40 inch hd tv with all the sky channels with the options to switch to English language. Filled a form with time and choices for breakfast . Arrived on time and plenty of food. ( Italian style breakfast) . Front desk nice and helpful. Near American embassy, hard rock cafe' , villa borghese park( very nice!) . Would stay there again and reccomand it to friends and family

Room was so small that we could barely walk around the bed and there were no drawers in which to put clothes. The buffet breakfast, however, was outstanding and the location very convenient. Front desk staff could be friendlier. The room was much smaller than the photo for that level of accommodation

The heart of Ancient Rome, all roads led to the Forum. Visitors flock here to walk the streets where Julius Caesar once trod when this was the centre of commercial, political and judicial life. Nearby, the Colosseum, described by Lord Byron as ‘the gladiators’ bloody circus’, is the world’s most famous amphitheatre and the most impressive of all Rome’s buildings and ruins.

The hotel has antique look lobby on the first floor, offers excellent breakfast and is located close to historical monuments. The rooms, however, are average but clean.
"Intimate friendly staff with convenient location"
My husband and I stayed at the Napoleon our first night in Rome and they were kind enough to store our large bags for 5 days while we traveled to Florence. The service is so personal you get to know everyone on a first name basis immediately. The front desk managers were always ready to drop what they were doing to help us plan our days - sharing tips […] about buses, the Metro, walking routes, and they even set up a tour of the Vatican museum where the guides picked us up at the hotel and delivered us home afterwards. The marble bathrooms were upgraded recently but the rooms' furnishings could use upgrading as well. Nevertheless, the rooms were clean, the beds comfy and the linens spectacular. The hotel's intimate restaurant is very good, the Wi-Fi is reliable, and the breakfast cappuccinos molto bene. There is a laundromat a few blocks away - a 5 minute walk, and several excellent trattorias in the neighborhood. The hip Osteria Angeleno (pasta to die for) is literally around the corner. We highly recommend the Napoleon! Read more
"Metro at the front door to hotel"
Good value for money. Very close to Metro, easy access to all signseeing. Hotel staff excellent, helpful and coutrious. The Breakfast was great, the Bar and Resturant were very reasonable and open every day but Wednesday. Room was very clean but on the smaller side. A great place to stay and a good value for the money.
Upon our arrival, the manager was very rude to us. The hotel was probably very grand in it's day but it is old and run down now and the neighborhood is not the best. It is close to the Coluseum but not very close to anything else. The rest of the staff was very nice. The shower is plastic enclosure that had a lot of mold on it so if you are allergic […] to mold you might want to skip it. The breakfast which was included was good. We would not stay here again. "Napolean Hotel in Rome"
Very nice, clean and friendly hotel in Rome. Central location within walking distance of Termini Station. Excellent free breakfast was included. Nice selection and fresh. If you need something, just ask them. The staff really enjoyed making our stay memorable. We will stay there again next time.
"Awesome"
Hotel Napoleon served as a great home base for a 2-day stay in Rome - mostly thanks to Roberto, that is! Before we headed out to explore the city, he mapped out a route that let us see 15 Roman "must-see's," complete with a gelato & lunch break! We were so glad we followed his advice. His tour suggestions seriously made our trip. The entire hotel staff […] was friendly, and was convenient to plenty of restaurants/shops/things to do. I highly recommend it! Read more
"Friendly staff, close to Metro"
The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very clean, and comfortable. There are elevators and the windows could be opened, so we could have some fresh air. The hotel was very accessible to the Metro, so we could get anywhere in Rome that we wanted to go. The walls are a little thin, the beds a little hard - like most of the […] rooms we had in Europe. There were two computers for the use of guests. Breakfast was very nice - a good selection of breads, meats, cheeses, cereals, drinks. The breakfast room is a little stuffy - it could have used an open window - as the temperature outside was crisp. My only complaint was the meal we ate in the hotel restaurant - service was very slow, it was very stuffy, it took about 45 minutes between courses and the food wasn't that good. Read more
"Hotel Napolian in Rome Italy"
The hotel arranged for a private car to meet us at the airport. This was better than a taxi as he helped us with our bags from the airport to his car. All the staff was very courteous from check-in to check-out. When asking for directions, they would walk you out to the street and visually point you in the right direction. Because of the fact that the […] rooms faced a center courtyard, the rooms were very quite - a plus in Rome. The full breakfast each morning was great. It is close to the coleseum and pick-up point for the hop-on-hop off bus. The Metro stop is just outside the front door. I would stay there again Read more
"Enjoyed the stay"
We enjoyed the stay at the Napoleon. Nice sized rooms, the bathroom was clean and large enough, loved the towels. Breakfast was super, a full spread and very tasty. The front desk assisted in making dinner reservations and arranging a van for the airport. I hope we are able to travel again to Rome and this would be where I would stay again.
Friendly and helpful desk saff who spoke english...and were most cordial and pleasant....
"Nice stay"
We stayed for 2 nights. Excellent hotel staff. The room was comfortable and clean with a large bath. Breakfast was of high quality and had a broad selection. The hotel is within 100 feet of the Rome Rome A Line Vittorio Emanuele stop and approximately a 15 minute walk to the Colisseum. We would definitely stay again.
"A Real Find"
I cannot say enough kind words of praise for this hotel. All of the staff were extremely welcoming and helpful; the concierge service is great and they go out of their way for the guests. Everyone spoke great English. The hotel is comfortable and provides a lovely buffet breakfast with gluten free items! There is a choice of fresh fruits, cold cuts, […] cheeses, cereals, eggs, etc. The location is convenient; metro stop just steps away from the lobby; walking distance to the theatre district and the Coloseum. I HIGHLY recommend this hotel and will stay here again. Read more
"Near the Termini and other sights"
Great hotel. Subway entrance right outside the front door makes it easy and quick to get to many locations. Within walking distance of Colosseum and Forum. The wine tasting on Friday night is really nice. You get to meet the staff and other guests. The concierge is wonderful. He takes time to give you great suggestions and directions to anything you […] want to see and do. Just have to remember that hotel rooms/baths in Europe are smaller than USA. I highly recommend this hotel. Read more
"Helpful, friendly staff and cozy, nice hotel"
Seems to be a very old building, but nicely maintained. Everything was clean and tidy. The staff members (especially at the reception) were all very helpful and friendly. Only drawback I can think of is the small elevators and the steps you need to take to get to the elevators if you have big luggages, which I did not have and so myself did not have […] any problem. Even with luggages, the concierge person is very willing to help you with them and with your room. The air-conditioning unit in my room did not work at first, but the concierge person fixed it quickly. Free Wi-Fi in the room was really nice and the included breakfast was pretty good. Being right next to a park, at night, there were some (possibly drunken) people hanging around in the surrounding area of the hotel, but I did not feel anything dangerous. The train station is right in front of the hotel and only two stops to the main Termini. The hotel is quite close to the city center also. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay. Read more
"Good location in Rome"
We had a nice 4 night stay at this hotel as it is definitely well situated just 1 Metro stop from Termini train station and near several restaurants, conveniences stores, discount clothing stores, and a park. The staff was very friendly and there is a nice restaurant and bar and fancy meeting open area with comfy chairs and tables on the floor above […] ground floor. But the room itself and particularly the bathroom was small for a 4-star hotel. The shower didn't even have a soap tray or shelf to hold soap and shampoo, and there was no counter space by the sink. We stayed at a 3-star hotel when we got back to Rome after our cruise and this had more bathroom space and was easier walk to Termini station. Read more

"Napoleon Hotel"
The hotel is in a good location being a 10 minute walk to Termini station and a 15 minute walk to the Colosseum. We were impressed with the size of the room, it was very spacious. The concierge was very friendly and helpful in finding us a nice restaurant to go to in the evening to fit our needs. The air conditioning worked great which was a huge bonus […] in 37 degree weather in August! Only fault would be that the decor is a tad dated. I would stay there again if I didn't want to be more central, however the metro system works well too. Read more

"Nappoleion Hotel in Rome - center of the old city"
This is our second time staying at this hotel. It is very convient to the Colisum and the sites around there as well as on the metro. The staff is the most helpful of just about any hotel we have ever stayed at. When we go to Rome again, we will stay here.
"Absolutely would stay there again"
The outstanding: The staff: without exception, all the staff went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible. They gave us great info on how to go places, and were always willing to help. The very good: The location is right in the center of Rome, walking distance to the Colosseum, and the Vitorriano monument (though that's a longer […] walk). The metro is easy to use, and is right outside the door. There is a park across the street, that while I wouldn't hang out there late at night, was nice during the day. Also a very good breakfast buffet that goes from 0700 to 1000. The good: Adequate internet access, although upload was a bit slow. There are two computers in the lobby for guest use if you don't bring your own laptops, but they're usually in use, especially by kids. The fair: Room size was pretty small, but I knew that going in, so I don't mark down for that. Also, the shower temperature seemed to fluctuate quite a bit, without my touching anything. The bad: nothing. I came with my wife and daughter, and we all loved the hotel. We had heard from other reviews about pickpocketers, but we never had any issue with that, altough we of course exercised due diligence. It doesn't feel like a tourist trap. When you walk out the door, you almost feel local. Another plus is the existence of a nearby laundrymat (Ondablue is the name). This is helpful if either you're on a long trip, or don't want to pack so many clothes. 5 minute walk. To sum it up: Excellent hotel, wonderful staff, great location. Would definitely stay there again! Read more
"Napolean Hotel"
This hotel is located next to a subway stop which gives you easy access to most of not all of Rome's favorite places to vistt. The staff is extremely helpful and nice. If I go back to Rome, I will definitely stay at this hotel.

"Decent for the Money"
We spent 3 nights at this hotel in July 2011. The staff was courteous and helpful. Our room was small but clean. The shower was extremely small and would not be suitable for a larger person. The refrigerator in the room did not work. The breakfast was adequate. The neighborhood was a little shady but the convenience to the Metro can't be beat and we […] found several good restaurants within 2-3 blocks of this hotel. Overall, we got a simple room at a reasonable price. Read more
"Nice place - free wifi - not limited like others"
Very nice, very friendly staff. Very accommodating of my issues with my power transformer. Don't think this is size of most US hotels. This is typical European hotel, small showers etc. Also, they have good A/C in each room. Very nice as I like it very cold.
"the wonderful Napolean Hotel"
Although the neighborhood surrounding this hotel appears to have become shabby, the hotel itself is fabulous. The staff was eager to explain the attractions of Rome even before I asked anything. This hotel is a ten minute walk from the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill and the Victor Emmanuel II Monument. Also, there are many nice restaurants […] within a five minute walk . Everyone at the hotel was unfailingly friendly and polite, and the hotel even hosted a party with Italian wines and traditional tidbits. Read more
"The Napoleon - wonderful stay!"
My husband and I spent 3 days at the Hotel Napoleon and then returned for 1 more night at the end of a 12 day Italy trip. The staff at the Hotel was extremely courteous and made us feel very welcomed. Breakfast provided in the morning was well laid out and enough to keep us going through a day of sightseeing in Rome. All requests for assistance were […] met with a smile and immediate response. The hotel is right beside the subway stop making it easy to get around Rome. And there are local markets, restaurants, department stores, and outside vendors all around the hotel area - able to meet any need! The Napoleon was a wonderful recommendation from hotels.com - we would definitely return on another visit to Rome. Read more

"Great Location"
The hotel was in a great location considering there was a metro stop directly outside of the front doors. There is a small park across the street and good restaurants within walking distances. "Hotel Napoleon before and after a cruise"
We stayed at the hotel two days before and one day after taking a cruise. It was walking close to Termini and subway entrance was right out the front door. It sits on a park/square and figuring out which side of the square to go to is a little tricky. All other guests were European. The neighborhood is really seedy looking, but we never felt unsafe. […] The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. TV had one English speaking business news station, so forget about TV news. Bring your own adapters for US plug-in appliance. Theirs didn't work. The staff was always helpful to help map directions, but Rome is a bramble bush getting around. The restaurant was nothing special. We ate there once but wouldn't bother again. Morning breakfast buffet had everything we wanted except a second cup of coffee. Price-wise - we felt we paid 5 star price, but hotel was more like a nice Motel 6. I guess that's all part of over-priced Rome experience. Read more
"One of the best to stay in Rome"
I cannot say enough positive about the Napoleon Hotel. It has the charm and elegance of the best of the pre-war hotels, and the ammenities of the 21st Century. Roberto, the manager, is fluent in multiple languages, can seemingly to anything, solve any problem, get whatever you need and have it when you need it. The metro is 50 meters from the front […] door and the Coloseum, Santa Maria Magieriori are both 15-20 minutes walk.. Five minutes walk will give you first class and reasonably price food, and all the shopping you want. We hated to leave. Read more
"Great place to stay in Rome"
We just came back from our trip in Italy. Rome was our first city and I was so happy to stay in Hotel Napoleon. Their driver picked us up at the airport and even though our flight was 1.5 hrs late, he was there the minute we walked out of the baggage claim. The cost was even better then Roma Cab. The hotel is clean, the room was spacious and right out […] side the door is the Metro station so even though one could walk to all the attractions, it was handy to have when after a day of walking with children we could just hop on the metro and be at the hotel. They also sell the Roma Pass at the hotel. The room (we had a quadruple) was clean and beds comfortable (not easy to find in Italy). Great Wi-Fi connection in the room and additional computers available in the seating area. Very happy with our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel. Read more
"convenient to train station"
we selected this hotel since we were going to be using the train from the airport and then onto Sorrento. It is a good location, but the surrounding neighborhood is not great. There are a couple of nice local restaurants that the hotel suggested. "Great service, great location"
Typical European hotel, in terms of the room. Small, but fine for 1, impeccably clean, nothing luxurious. But the staff really went out of their way to be helpful. Very convenient to the Termini, and walking distance to lots of restaurants, cafes, and some shopping. Again, nothing special, but I would definitely stay here again.
"Hotel Napolean nice but pricey"
Hotel Napolean is nicely remolded with large public area and one pc. Free wifi wasn't working one day. Room was reasonable size with nice bathroom. But bed was saggy. Overall nice, but high price. Within walking distance of main train station, Termini. Metro entrance right at hotel.
"Lovely Hotel"
This is a lovely hotel with a very nice feeling to it. Our special thanks to Roberto and Franco at the front desk who never hesitated to help us and went out of their way for us. They are an asset to our stay. The breakfast was very good, our room was fine, clean, but hated the pillows. They had a great wine tasting on a fri night which everyone was […] invited to that was really great. There is a Metro stop right outside the door that is very convenient but at night it is very quiet around the hotel. Overall it was a good stay, great atmosphere there. Read more

Good hotel and Clean
"Charming, gracious, and convenient"
We stayed at the Napolean twice during our trip to Italy. Both times we could not be more pleased. The concierge was extremely gracious and accomodating, the room was spotless, the bed was comfortable. We liked the heavy drapes and the quiet room. The breakfast offered a large selection of items from cold cuts to sweet rolls, eggs, and fruit, all served […] in a cheerful breakfast room. The hotel is literally only steps from the Vittoria Emanuele Metro stop, which is only one stop from Termini Station. We found several good restaurants nearby and the wonderful Fasso's gelateria. For a charming, old world experience--with modern bathrooms and great mattresses!-- I highly recommend the Napolean. Read more

"a decent choice"
A decent hotel, in slightly sketchy neighborhood. The metro is literally right outside the door, but so are some unsavory characters, depending on the time of day. Food choices within walking distance are very limited. Staff was very helpful. Wifi is free in your room. Free breakfast included bacon and eggs. Overall, the hotel is a good value, I believe. […] If the convenience of the metro is a huge selling point for you, I would definitely recommend this hotel. Personally, I prefer a neighborhood with more charm. If you're just going for business or something, maybe it's a better choice. I think the high rating of this hotel set my expectations too high. Read more

"Excellent choice; I would definitely go back."
The hotel was everything I would have wanted. The staff was extremely helpful, in particular Signor Roberto, the manager, who bent over backwards to make our experience pleasant. Breakfast was included and I found it pretty varied for what europeans usually have and the fact that it was included was a definite plus, compared to other 4 star hotels in […] Europe that charge and arm and a leg for all the extras. The location was excellent, right in front of the metro station and the hotel provided a computer with free internet service, which also costs an arm and a leg in other hotels.
