"Wonderful anniversary date night"
My wife and I were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. We had a very nice dinner at one of the hotel's restaurants, Eau Bistro, and then caught a movie at the hotel cinema. The room was very large and immaculate. The king size bed was the most comfortable bed in which I've slept in a long time. The staff members with whom we dealt were incredibly […] nice and efficient. The only drawback to our evening was with my room service order. I ordered champagne with chocolate covered strawberries a couple days in advance. Unfortunately, when they were delivered, I was informed they were out of strawberries. They graciously offered to substitute another dessert and ended up bringing us three cookies. We had to laugh. We stayed at Chase Park plaza during our recent visit to St. Louis. It was cold out, so we loved having the 3 restuarants in the hotel. The food was excellent ( a little bit on the expensive side). Perhaps a decade ago in-room internet might reasonably have been an extra. That's now unforgivable. And in 2013 responsible businesses recycle bottles and cans. The hotel was really very nice. Staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel itself was surprising big. Traffic can be a problem since it is on a very busy street so try and plan accordingly. Parking wasn't terrible, it's off street in a parking garage. However, getting back on the street from the garage is a little tricky because of the bad sight lines. "A little disappointed"
The hotel was packed to the gills the weekend I went, and they handled the chaos quite well. However, I had made my reservation months in advance because I wanted to have a special hotel experience there, having heard about the place for years. When I checked in, I was given a room with a view of...an air compressor for the hotel. Since I was staying […] several nights, I asked to change rooms, and was accommodated. I stayed the first night in a room with a comfortable bed. However, it was freezing cold. So again I moved the next day. My new room was much smaller, but did have a nice view. However, the bed was rock hard and the pillows were old and not fluffy. The bed was so hard that I woke up every half an hour because my body parts were falling asleep. I got up for two mornings totally unrefreshed and sore from the night. I did not complain after the first night, because I felt I had already worn out my welcome. I realize not everyone can have the "perfect" room, and sometimes when I'm traveling for business I don't care about my room at all. However, when someone is asking nicely to be accommodated for a special trip, it would have been nice to have a room that was both presentable and in good working order. "I have wanted to stay here since I was a kid."
Great hotel! I was raised in St Louis and this was the premiere hotel. All my expectations were met except one! Due to airline screw-ups, it took me 30 hours to get from the West coast to St Louis. I slept in the next morning and dearly wanted a cup of coffee on arising. Although there was a four cup coffee maker in the room, there was only one ONE […] CUP regular coffee pod and one ONE CUP Decaf coffee pod in the room. I put them together into the maker to get enough coffee to nearly fill the nice coffee mug the hotel supplied. The next morning I noted that the maid did not replace either pod. There was NO coffee! I ordered a bottle of champagne to be waiting in my room for my anniversary and had to call THREE TIMES to get it delivered, no apology offered or comp for my troubles. When in St. Louis this is our Hotel of choice; fabulous pool, cinema on the grounds, great dinning options in house as well as withing walking distance. The staff is most helpful and patient. Last visit it was rainy and we needed to borrow umbrellas. No problem; which was wonderful because we stay here to also enjoy the fabulous park across the street. "Beautiful facility but dirty rooms"
The hotel, its amenities, and its staff were fabulous. We arrived so late on Friday night, but they were so welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed Cafe Eau, and the staff here were also wonderful - courteous and attentive. The two main complaints that we had were the cleanliness of our room and the staff at Eau Bistro. The shelves in the bathroom were dusty […] and there was residue from the previous patrons in the shower. The glasses were filthy! We had used some of the mini bar items Friday night and they were never replaced, nor was the coffee. Then at Eau Bistro, when we told the waiter that we would like the Sunday brunch, he never came back. Not once! He was there taking care of his other tables, though. "Great location - beautiful neighborhood"
The hotel was perfect. One complaint - the self parking garage elevators will not take you to your room. You are required go to the lobby and across the hotel to a different set of elevators, which is fine, no big deal except we were not informed of this at check in. It was rather confusing because the parking elevators will take you to all of the floors, […] i.e. our room was on the 5th fl. We went to the 5th floor only to find that our room # did not exist. We thought we had lost our minds; walking up & down hallways looking for our room # - it was late, we were tired & hungry and not in the mood to schlep our luggage all over the the wrong side of the hotel. Thankfully I had the hotel # & a cell phone & was able to call to for help. There was no signage. The hotel has a movie theater; the staff at the theater were very nice. Seating was okay; not extremely comfy but ok for a 1-1/2 hr movie. We had breakfast at Cafe Eau - the food was okay but the service was terrible. We had James who was not friendly nor in a good mood. We had to wait about 20 min for our check & another 5 for our change. There were only 5 tables in use so it was not busy. The mgr was there but did not come over to check on us. He asked the table behind us how everything was. We were clearly waiting around, our plates were empty & at the edge of the table and we were looking around for help yet he did not acknowledge us until we stood up and started to leave.
