Worst place we've stayed in 40 years of travel in England. Small, dark, dirty room in older part with frequent noise from trains right behind hotel. Bedspread and blanket old and stained. Sheet had old blood stain. Bed wasold and uncomfortable. Had to get spare pillows from cupboard to lie on to try and pad the springs. Bathroom, small with mold around […] bath etc. Tiny semicircular sink. Couldn't even brush teeth properly! Long walk to station, restaurants and attractions. The hotel was clean and the room was spacious for a single room. The duvets however, were only as wide as the bed, the light shone through the door in the evenings and the hotel was quite noisy.Other than tha, it was fine for the budget I paid.

The staff are very polite and welcoming. However the hotel has issues with its hot water system. On my first stay I had a weeks stay nights stay in a single room and it's was ok until the Monday night when I was using the sauna and went to have a refreshing shower and was told that the hotel had no heating or hot water. Refreshing shower it was, the […] water was ice cold. The following morning another cold shower. I thought I would give them the chance to fix the issues as it was hotel wide. Wednesday morning again cold shower. I decided that I had to complain and get it fixed. The lady on reception struggled to understand what was wrong and even denied that hey had hot water issues the past few nights. To save on time I asked her to get maintenance to check whilst I was out for work. After arriving at the hotel on Wednesday night I asked the reception staff if They had fixed the water issues in my room. I quickly realised that the lady that mornings had not done anything as she had not recorded any request. The staff decided that I did have an issue and kindly moved me for the next two nights in to a double room which was great until the second weeks stay when the water went off again. This time I made sure they recorded the fault and it was fixed quicker. After speaking to members of staff it appears to be a common problem. Over all the staff are very good and the rooms are ok. On arrival hotel staff were welcoming and attentive. Room was adequate, but small, and given the price in need of some refurbishment. The room was comfortable and clean but the floor was creaky which must have affected the people in the room below, the staff were very efficient and kind. Our room was facing the main road which was qite noisy during the night. The breakfast was one of the best I have had at any hotel.

Room was adequate for our needs with the tea-making facilities tucked away in a cupboard. We had a quick dip in the pool before breakfast and the staff there were friendly when we asked about the best place to park in the town for the shops and a coffee stop etc. Excellent breakfast with helpful staff going to extra trouble to get the condiments we […] needed. Barely trained staff thought that "well I have to get home too" was a reasonable response to my complaint that "I've been waiting at reception for 10 minutes and there's been none to serve me and I'm late for meeting someone". I ended up waiting at reception for 15 minutes for a non apologetic receptionist to return from somewhere else in the hotel […] to come and check me in. When I arrived to see the reception desk unmanned I went and found someone only to be told bluntly that "it wasn't their job" and that I would have to work for the receptionist to return - the only person in the hotel qualified to use a keyboard, apparently. This hotel lived up to its name - and we enjoyed our stay; the included breakfast was very good, the lounge and bar areas had a quiet and calm atmosphere, although there was plenty of room for party celebration bookings too. Used Hotel for anniversary. Did not use leisure facilities but was given disabled room without requiring it. Rather garish paint and linen. Clean and comfortable but have had better at same price. Ok location but nothing nearby until you get to town.

It is true this hotel is looking a bit dated and shabby in places. However our room was comfortable and we experienced little noise given the proximity of the road and railway line and that there were two Christmas parties taking place on consecutive nights. The staff at this hotel make up for any concerns about decor - they are all kind, helpful and […] considerate - every one we encountered smiled and greeted us. The gym is small but has everything you need - there was no-one else there when I used it. It was a bit disappointing that there were many local children having swimming lessons in the pool - but I guess unfortunate timing on my part. Lovely staff, food was good value and well presented. Shower wall needed a clean and the hose leading to the shower head was a bit leaky. Overall though good value- I didn't realise breakfast was included in the room rate so that was a pleasent suprise. I had a cold at the time of visit so didn't get to explore the pool/gym. Easy to park car. Bit concerned […] the windows were a bit flimsy, and as a female staying alone was suprised to be at the front on the ground floor.
