Good walking distance to many stops on the Houston City Pass. The hotel was very nice, but a bit too sophisticated for my 11 and 12 year-olds. I would stay again without my children.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Convenient to Fine Arts Museum of Houston"
I found the decor a bit unusual, the lobby dark and uninviting. Lots of snacks and wine and other pricey items in the room to buy...would have prefered some morning coffee which was unavailable in the room, lobby or anywhere else in the hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"First Time In Houston"
I spent 2 days / 1night in Houston to attend Tristan and Isolde at the Opera House and visit museums and galleries. I have a really good experience at Zaza Hotel. The location is absolutely perfect, close to all the main museums and the metro. The check in was fast and efficient. The check is at 4pm but they gave me a room at 2pm, very nice. My bedroom […] [king + balcony] was absolutely perfect, spacious, clean with a wonderful view. Room service is very efficient and fast [dinner and breakfast]. A few negative points: because the hotel is "fancy" and host "fancy guests" reception desk staff has a kind of attitude, with a forced smile or simply very cold. Same with the valet staff: if you don't have a car they don't expect a tip from you, so they clearly won't help you. I was waiting for the hotel shuttle for almost 15mn - which never came - and no one was ready to assist me. Also there is a very nice swimming pool. I went there on sunday morning [10am] but i had to leave soon after: a small group of "fancy guests" arrived, [after party or pre-brunch party] drinking, smoking and speaking loud. In addition there is speakers all around the pool, with a kind of techno house dance music. The level is not very loud but definitely not a quiet sunday morning ambiance. Zaza offers good services but definitely should think more about relationship with costumers. The fancy attitude is not a sign of luxury. Simplicity is luxury. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

I absolutely loved the Hotel ZaZa! It is very classy with a touch of funky '40s style. The room was so clean and neat with a homey feel. "Great Hotel in the Heart of the Museum District"
Excellent stay as usual. Only minor complaint is the front desk staff checking you in. I understand there is an attitude that manifests among staff of being 'snooty' at higher end establishments, but the two (fake) blonde women checking guest in act as if you should be honored for them to be interacting with you and rather not be. They create a distasteful […] impression at the start of your stay, despite the patron paying $300+ per night at a non-NYC hotel. Other then that great stay and amenities, with the only other thing being that all items served on the ZaZa property should be available via room service. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Well Located Avoid "Petite" Rooms"
The hotel is beautiful and well located in downtown Houston. If you are an art lover it is directly across the street from the Houston Museum of Fine Arts - a fantastic facility with everything from its permanent collections and special exhibits to art movies. And, if you enjoy walking you can easily hop onto the metro rail to see other great spots […] in the city. My concern is that I booked the Petite King room. While I am accustomed to small European rooms the problem was not the size but the layout and attempt to fill it with overstuffed chairs. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Definitely not a family hotel."
The best thing about this hotel is the staff. Very friendly and helpful. It needs some upkeep in regards to the carpeting etc and it's way to dark inside. I'm sure that's part of the "ambiance" they're going for, but it's a little over the top for me. Walls are paper thin. You can hear conversations in the next room. I enjoyed the spa. I got in for […] a last minute massage with a lovely young lady named Jamie. She was excellent. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Not for the cost."
The hotel needs a good cleaning and general improvement in it's upkeep. The size of the room was generous, and the furniture was nice, however there were stains on the walls and comforter that took away from that. Their room service also needs improvement - I ordered a glass of wine to have while getting ready, and 40 minutes later it had still not […] arrived. Thankfully when I called to check on it, they let me cancel my order since I was about to leave. I also ordered an omelet for breakfast through room service, and when it arrived the cheese had congealed and it was swimming in butter. Definitely not appetizing. For $350/night, I just expect to have a nicer experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The wonderful service started even before we arrived with excellent communication with Zida, the concierge. Service throughout our whole stay was wonderful. The pool and amenities were great too. "Hipster cool, though with much left to be desired"
TINY room. And I mean TINY. I barely had enough room to turn around - I felt like I was in a Henny Youngman joke. I was there midweek for a conference downtown (which was sold out, otherwise I would not have stayed at ZaZa). The hotel itself is swanky and hip - cool art on the walls - very sexist, which I don't mind at all, but not for everyone. Even […] my bed's headboard - a silkscreen photo of a naked woman. Bath is chrome and glass. Restaurant is okay - slow service, but attentive; actually, all of the people working there except for the guy who checked me in were very, very service-oriented. The restaurant's menu is short, and given there's not much around there, have to settle. Every night there seemed to be another media event-type party, with overdressed hipsters and Houston teenagers. Overall okay, but overpriced for what you get. Would not stay again. "Obviously great for lavish, well-dressed parties."
The Zaza certainly isn't plain. The high-glamour decor is grand and ostentatious and generally resembles a Hollywood hotel in the 1950s. It's apparently a great place for big high-end parties, as these seem to be happening every evening. If you come in dressed for jogging in the park you will feel very out of place. Room service was consistently slow, […] and the 15-minute "grab and go" room service option gives you cheap microwaved dishes that are cold in the middle. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great hotel to people watch"
This is our second stay at Zaza and we love it! We love that it's not too big and yet still has all the amenities of a large hotel. Didn't have time to enjoy the pool or the spa but did check them out and both looked inviting. The restaurant is fantastic and we recommend the chicken and waffles for breakfast!Genuine Expedia guest review

"Splended stay at the Splendito Suites!"
I stayed at the ZaZa for an "in town" vacation this weekend. Hotel was 5 star as always. Splendito Suite was terrific, furnishings very elegant, lots of space and amenities (robes, bathroom items). Food and drink at the Monarch for both meals was excellent. The only drawback was breakfast Sunday morning, the service was very slow and the kitchen seemed […] backed up. "Excellent place to stay"
Everything about this hotel is outstanding. A very unique design with excellent accommodations. The only negative is the parking situation. The valet system was totally overrun by high demand and caused late arrivals and late departures. The hotel restaurant was a tad pricey for dinner; probably double what the true value was for the meal.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I love staying at Zaza........thanks!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Positives- The view of downtown Houston from the 10th floor was very nice through the 4 large picture windows in my suite. The area around the hotel is beautiful with a park, a zoo, and museums of art, history and more within blocks. Light rail to downtown was within 1/2 block and was very convenient and fast but bring appropriate bills or coins as […] you will be approached more than once while waiting to board or upon reaching your destination. Negatives- The Hotels.com description stated the suite had a refrigerator. Well it mostly did not. The description also stated the room had a minibar. The minibar in this case was a micro sized refrigerator (apprx 20"x20") and was the only refrigerator in the room. The goodies inside were not electronically monitored however and could be removed to make room for (most of) my stuff. Be aware if you arrive in a car that you will pay an additional $29 per night for valet service as there is no self parking at Zaza, which -is- mentioned in the hotel 'charges' section of Hotels.com description but which I neglected to read. The Monarch Restaurant had a nice atmosphere but the staff seemed put off by my request to sit down and have a beer while waiting for take out which I would have understood had they been busy but the place was nearly empty. The atmosphere and seafood at Dantons (a 5 block walk down Montrose Blvd) were much more to my liking and less expensive to boot! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Best hotel in Houston"
We love to stay at ZaZa when we visit Houston. It is located in our favorite part of the city close to the museums, zoo, parks, and beautiful residential neighborhoods. The staff is wonderful. Great hotel for family, couples and business.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room 701 should never be rented again. I have stayed at the ZaZa before and it was ok, but this room was horrible. The shower head had to be turned towards the wall or the water would run out of the shower door. The sink was so small you could not even wash your hands before you had to turn the water off to keep it from running over the sides. The iron […] board cover was SO big that they might as well not even bothered putting an iron board in the room. Light bulbs burned out. No coffee maker in the room - HUGE dislike. Room was so small that in order for the room service guy to get in He had to hold the door himself since there could not be two people in the hall and a tray in the tiny, tiny hallway. Picture in the bathroom of coal mining guy is terrible depressing. However, head concierge and guys helping outside were very nice. Food was good. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good location for hospitals."
We had to call the front desk to ask what was loud noise we heard. They came to check and said it was the service elevator that was broken and it was next to us. They asked if we wanted to change rooms but thankfully we were going to be there only one more day. The rooms need a little upkeep.Genuine Expedia guest review
They need to do a better job of cleaning the rooms. Mine was a bit dirty. I have stayed at the Za Za in Dallas and it was no comparison.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Perfect girls getaway weekend!"
The Hotel ZaZa is a very high-end boutique hotel with beautiful decor. The pool area and spa are incredible! We were very pleased with the food and drink poolside service. However, the front desk staff were not very friendly and several requests were needed to get maintenance up to our room upon checkin to repair the mini fridge. After going all the […] way to the hotel manager, we were given another room and several gift vouchers, so we ended up being very pleased. Overall, this was a great location for rodeo and a relaxing girls getaway weekend. The spa treatments were heavenly also! I just think attention to small details and more friendly and prompt customer service can make the ZaZa an even better place to stay. People are paying a lot of money to stay here and they need to be treated like 5-star clients in every way. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Quirky and Pretentious"
We stayed here on March 12th and the swimming pool was not heated. We were told they heat it in the winter but isn't it still winter? The only room I found that could accomodate a family was the balcony double. It cost $286.98 plus $ 38 in tax and $27 for valet parking. You can bring your dog for $50.00 a night and they will even sell you doggie water […] and doggie biscuits! There are tons of snacks in your room. How about a $45.00 bottle of Coppola Merlot or a $6.00 bottle of water. You can also buy small bottles of shaving lotion on display in the bathroom for $16.00 a pop. There is a restaurant on site, "The Monarch." The menu lists "Kobe Texas steak." Really? Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice decor, no privacy"
The hotel decor was great, a nice change from a standard hotel and the room had a balcony and was very plush. They even came in after we left for dinner and lit a candle by the bed and put junior mints on the pillow. The thing about this hotel that will probably cause us to stay somewhere else in the future was the paper thin walls. This hotel is too […] expensive to have to whisper in your room and hear every conversation in both rooms next to you. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Convenient hotel for Museum district."
The hotel was chosen by our group leader. It was convenient to the museums where our meetings were held. The staff was very helpful and my room, booked through Expedia, was better than the rooms booked by the group at a group rate (which was more than Expedia's rate). The decor is dark and tawdry and seems to be selected for male businessmen. The restuarant […] was dark and noisy and the food was not worth what we paid for it. Again, aimed toward pleasing the boisterous male crowd. Given that, I would say I would stay there again for the convenience to the museums and the fact that there were not many other hotels in the area. The parks in the area were restful. The pool was sunny and a relief from sitting in the dark lobby. If you want a clean, friendly hotel you will be happy. But don't expect it to cheer you up. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"I was hopeful"
that our stay would be as wonderful as we were excited to get away. I was disappointed in that the hotel is very dated, average and truly over priced for what it offered, so much so the thermostat in the room was the old lever/dial versus more up to date digital. It has no onsite parking so you either valet - $29+ overnight in addition to the cost of […] the room. I love great hotels and I don't mind paying for service and quality, but honestly, I wouldn't stay her again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
A disappointing stay at this "luxury" hotel. Bellman didn't carry bags to room; just dumped them in lobby and left. Bathroom was extremely small and tight quarters. it took a full 5 minutes to get hot water to the sink or shower every time. On Saturday morning at 8 AM, three maid staff stood outside door and chatted loudly about their family, Friday […] night events, etc. Had to open door and ask them to be quiet. Overall a disappointing hotel; only redeeming quality for property is it has a good location for museum/medical district. Would recommend the Four Seasons or St Regis instead.
