Found the Hilton Caledonian hotel very good - although a little on the pricey side, especially price of breakfast - decided to treat ourselves to in-room dining for a change to celebrate my 40th birthday and although very nice, it was expensive (£20 a head plus service charge)! Very central for shops and bars of Edinburgh. Would highly recommend.

our stay at the caledonian was very enjoyable, although we only stayed one night. The room was very comfortable, although not the best we have stayed in. Breakfast was everything one could wish for. The only downside to our stay was the building works being carried out as part of the HILTON'S 22 million pounds improvement scheme. This will not put us off staying here on our next visit wich we hope to do later in the year.

This is an expensive hotel but our room was tiny with a chipped small oldfashioned wardrobe which could not take a woman's dress. The shower was cool and the pressure low. The restuarant food was overpriced and poor value. On the plus side, the service was excellent; the location was excellent; the pool a little small but very pleasant; the public areas were very attractive but I do not think it was worth the money

This beautifully designed hotel sits at a great position to access the shopping streets of Edinburgh. Accessibility around the hotel was convenient and the long hallways were filled with wonderful pictures of Scotland. The room was extremely clean. Wake up call was on time. However, the staff seem disinterested in anything other than what they were working on at the moment. I ate at teh restaurant and had a waiter that barely spoke any english and the food was only sub-par at best which was a bit much considering the price.

The hotel was lovely and everything was what I would expect from a 5 star hotel, although we didn't have time to check out the spa/pool etc. My only comment would be one member of the night staff was a bit stuck up when we asked where we could have a cigarette. He responded out the front even though they have a garden of such in the middle of the hotel. This cheeky whelp kind of put a damper on the evening but other than that grand.

We stayed at 'The Caley' when we recently went to Edinburgh for our first ever visit to the city. We were lucky enough to be given a room in the refurbished part of the hotel and the room was fantastic. Very spacious with beautiful decor, large bathroom, and all the mod cons you would expect from a five star accomodation. The staff were incredibly helpful from the moment we arrived - from the valet parking service (£9.50 per day) to concierge. We had also booked treatments in the Ocean Rooms Spa which were really enjoyable, we also used the pool (smaller than it looks on the pics though so a little disappointing), jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. We were B&B and the breakfast had lots of choice in a really nice setting. The hotel is very central to the main shopping area and the castle which is just across the road, the only down side to our visit was the huge roadworks throughout the city centre - they are laying tram lines and this has caused massive disruption, so much so that it took us 45mins to finally be able to pull up outside the hotel as our sat nav kept sending us down roads that were blocked off so we spent a great deal of time driving in circles trying to find another way in. However, we eventually called the hotel concierge and they stayed on the phone whilst they directed us every step of the way - another example of the excellent customer service. All in all, we loved Edinburgh and are definately planning to go back.

Hotel is located at one end of Princes Street which is ideal for a stay in Edinburgh. Taxi rank right outside the fron door, Airport shuttle bus stops no more than 100 metres from the hotel and a 10 minute walk (uphill) to the Castle. Our room (417) was a decent size for a City Centre Hotel, the staff were very friendly and check in and out were very quick. A couple of minor irritants, the water was very hot in the shower and the thermostat didn't seem to work, the jacuzzi was not hot at all and £10 for a pint and a Southern Comfort with mixer is not cheap. Overall though I would recommend this hotel as it met our needs. I would say that in my unprofessional opinion I would liken his hotel to some 4 star hotels I have stayed in. We would return if the price was right, and if Hearts were playing at home that weekend!!

The hotel is ideally situated for all Edinburgh's main attractions. We couldn't fault the room with a very comfortable bed and excellent bathroom. The only thing that lets it down is the breakfast, we went down just before 10am (breakfast is served until 11) to find that most things had run out and there were long queue's waiting for them to be replenished so by the time you sat down at your table most things on your plate were cold. I thought that a hotel of this standard would be better organised than this.
