I had a great time! I traveled by myself to celebrate my birthday, and encountered a friendly, helpful staff who maintained clean and comfortable surroundings.The staff at the PADI dive center (on site) were very welcoming, and arranged for me to go out others on the sailboat--they also took me out again by myself since I can't sail. The hotel concierge […] arranged for extra pillows and a mattress pad for my king size bed, and beach staff retrieved towels for me when the attendant had not yet opened the towel stand on Saturday morning. Bartenders served strong drinks at my request (doubles all around--it was my birthday, after all!), and the waiters in the Topaz Restaurant brought ample servings of their delicious coffee at breakfast and dinner to keep me moving in the meantime. My only complaints are that the food was lackluster, and the booze was not 100% up to my usual standards. However, even with this in mind, you cannot beat this price for an all-inclusive resort! I strongly recommend taking a half-day snorkeling trip on the glass-bottomed boats as well, as seeing the fish up close and personal was a magical experience. Also, I went to Alberto's down the beach one evening and had a great time eating fresh mahi-mahi prepared in the traditional tikin-xik manner (steamed with vegetables and achiote spices), which made up for the fact that I'd been subsisting on eggs, plantains, and salsa otherwise. Beds were extremely hard. A note in your room asked you to not put toilet paper in toilet drop it in your wastebasket. Everyday there was sewage odor. Understaffed and not enough restaurant choices. About 4 AM everyday there were so many birds in trees out front you couldn't sleep.

Allegro is a beautiful hotel; I was there in early December. Warm but not hot weather with daily showers. The staff is their best recommendation. However, there are things that need work. The beds are hard as concrete and need a topper. The sheets are scratchy, and pillows are flat. Cleanliness is good. Based on their recommendation, I bought a ring for $3500 pesos that I was told was a Brazilian emerald. When I got home and appraised it I was told it was CZ and worth very little. We went in March 2012, had a wonderful time, returned in Nov. with my daughter and friend, not so good. Apparently it's their "off" season. Beach bar not open, Lunch / snack bar didn't open until 11 or 12 somedays. Much less food selections at dinner also, but didn't notice any less in price? This is my second stay at this hotel, What we were looking for was a place to stay close to good dive sites. It has improved since my last stay with a great kids area pool area. Excellent location - close to all diving sites. Dive operator (ProDive) are excellent. If you are an advanced diver, they'll let you use all your air (I did a 90 ft dive with 52 minutes down time!) This hotel has a beautiful beach and nice pools. Family friendly atmosphere, too. The food is not very good, but it's convenient to have food on site. The drinks are so-so, the alcohol is OK (not super cheap grade) but the mixers are not so good- sugary and low quality. There is only Corona on tap for beer. We liked the room. Hotel was very clean, great staff. The resort advertised having 3 restaurants, (1 buffet, 2 ala carte), but we could never get onto the ala carte restaurants for dinner. Only one would be open each night, (never both),and you were only allowed to reserve the morning of, (no earlier than 9:00am), for dinner that evening. We would usually be out on a […] tour, via the hotel (snorkle,fishing, etc), so would'nt get back until later. By then the restaurant would be booked up...very frustrating! The beds are way too firm...I'm sure they hear this alot, but very uncomfortable. The boxsprings are actually concrete pads, and the matresses are rock hard. Your rental car rate is bogus - I used Thrifty. Mexico requires that you purchase 3rd party insurance, ($18.00/day). This was not calculated in my daily rate when I booked through Expedia. By far the WORST all-inclusive I have EVER been to, and I have been to 6 others, 2 others on Cozumel, all of which were great. 1.Pools and "jacuzzi" - dirty, cloudy water, paint peeling, jacuzzi had a brown scum of filth floating on it that I cleaned up. Lunch was a joke - vats of heated up frozen burgers and hot dogs - worse than middle school cafeteria.What I thought was spaghetti in white sauce was actually jalapeno sauce that was hotter than Thai food.No warning. Always had to wait for tables, 2 nights had to wait for 20 minutes (just ate salad bar after the "spaghetti en fuego" incident). 3. Mattresses are on CONCRETE SLABS! No box spring, just terrible mattress on concrete slabs built into the room. Worst nights of sleep of my life;me and my sister (fairly spry 33 and 25 year olds) woke up every morning barely able to move. 4. Thatched roofs have NO BARRIER to the room! When birds land on the roof, DIRT FALLS ON YOUR FACE IN BED! Bird poop on the shower curtain thanks to a little opening in the thatching that a bird hit just right. 5. Traveled with 2 young children (2 and 1). The splash pool was amazing the kids loved. Appropriate for kids up to around age 10. Rooms were a little small. A pack n play was available. We were on the second floor and could hear lots of outside noises. In the bathroom, you could hear the room next to you. We have been stayed at the Allego many times over the last 15 years but this is the first time since the remodelling required from the damage caused by Hurricane Wilma in 2005. What a transformation, The Theatre was relocated to a new area and is now covered and larger stage. New super sized kids pool with slides, waterfalls and loungers for parents. […] New kids playground area. I was told by staff they added 32 new rooms in the same 4 to a building thatched roof style. We upgraded to the premium room to be close to beach and stayed in 6624, upstairs with a large covered balcony, valuted celings, flat screen Satellite TV (CNN and some other english language channels), refrigerator (stocked with free beer/soda/water), coffee pot, tub/showers with hand held nozzle, walk in closet area, wall safe, ironing board, terry cloth robes to use. We were very room satisfied, they aren't huge rooms but perfect for changing/sleeping. Food was a ok, nothing superior but no one in our group every had any 'montezuma revenge' issues over our 8 days. Staff were all pleasnt and helpful, The beach is the best, white sand, no surf, good snorkeling, not many fish but large roped area to hunt for them. Scuba provider on site with boats at dock for easy in and out for divers. Located just off Columbia reef so short boat rides. Its a very family friendly resort, not for the adult only crowd looking for night action as town is a $180 peso ($15US) taxi ride each way. Great Beach time resort. Read more

If you have children over the age of 8 or are adults looking for a peaceful calm beautiful beach vacation....DO NOT BOOK HERE! Family Friendly translates to toddlers running around the dining rooms, parents having naked babies "go potty" on the beach (yes #2!) and hearing MOMMY screamed about ever minute from some little youngerster. The rooms are huts […] so sound travels and screaming babies could be heard throughout the night and as dawn breaks. Our "family" consisted of our 13 year old daughter, my husband and I and my parents in their early 70's, this was not a pleasing environment for us to enjoy. We could not have a conversation at meals as the screams and tantrums from the babies and small kids at the many tables made it impossible. The property is on a beautiful beach. We had electrical outages that lasted between 2 hours and 1/2 a day, plumbing problems where the smell of sulfar was pungent and even the water in the shower smelled bad. They worked on the sewer system every day but never got the smell out of the air. Worse vacation trip ever!!!! If you have a baby or toddler and want to go on vacation, this seems to be the resort to stay at. If you are interested in a calm and peaceful vacation to enjoy, this is not the place to be. The bar could not make the same drink twice, they were always different, I mean order a Mai Tai and each time it was different. Loved the Allegro, I'm not a big fan of huge high rise hotels and this offerred exactly what I was looking for. Quaint bungalows and a thatched roof to boot. We stayed in room 4724, which was the 2nd floor so had the thatched roof, and was right by the beach n restuarant. The staff and people were absolutely amazing. The ONLY downfall to this hotel is the little kids, we were on an 'adult only' vaca and I didn't like all the kids running around. However, I would take my 13 and 15 year olds back to this place. LOVED LOVED the beach, was amazing, waters blue as blue could be, no seaweed, and lots of shells. There's a few small rocks that had lobsters and nice tropical fish a short ways outside the buoys as well. We did not dive thru the PADI center but rather with an independent boat, which I highly recommend. Why spend 1000's of dollars to dive with the PADI shop when the locals guides are BETTER. They offer smaller boats and less crowding. The max number of people we had on dives was 5. The PADI boats were stuffed full- looked like 16 people on most days. No thank you! Big shout out to our maid, she decorated bed so nicely every day. Also- the beds are comfortable- keep seeing reviews about hard beds but this was not the case.
