Staff was very attentive to the needs of guests. When we booked on Expedia, we did not a choice of smoking/non-smoking rooms. Just beware that some floors are smoking floors.

My third time in Cancun so I'm not exactly "seasoned" but I've been around the block a bit. Sun Palace is mostly excellent and some so-so bits. Rooms - amazing decor. Beds are extremely comfortable. I'm an extremely picky sleeper and have an expensive mattress at home, was very happy. Resort 1500$ credit - awesome! You can get a free room upgrade […] for a whole week plus cigars and beach dinners and good wine at the restaurants and you pay nothing for it. VERY IMPORTANT - You can visit ANY of the Palace brand hotels for free and use the facilities. Beach Palace, Isla Mujeres Palace, Cozumel Palace. Don't bother with Moon Palace, that place is a complete disaster. Grounds - Probably one of the best beaches in Cancun. Staff are very attentive. With it being on the south side of the hotel zone you do have to move around a bit over the course of the day to stay in the sun. Restaurants: Stay away from the asian restaurant! All asian food is bad in Mexico don't even bother. The buffet for breakfast and lunch is quite good. There aren't many restaurants in this resort so if you're a complete foodie and not having a whole bunch of amazing a la carte restaurants will anger you, you won't like this place. It's a boutique hotel (as boutique as it gets in Cancun's hotel zone) and there's only about 200 rooms. Me and my lady usually want to wander off the beaten path and eat what locals eat so we went into town three times to find little hole in the wall places with amazing food. Read more

Rooms in this hotel are great and staffs are so kind. It is located at the end of hotel zone and I felt somewhat remote from everything. If you want to enjoy restaurants out of resort or night clubs, you need to take a bus about 10mins. Also beach is clean but small.

This was our third trip to Cancun, and we definetly enjoyed our stay at the Sun Palace. The only reason we gave the quality of the staff a 3 is because out of our 5 day staff they only came to service our room 3 of those days. While not a bad stay, My wife and I had some issues with this hotel. First off, the beach is not that great in this spot. It is very short with little distance between the hotel and water and get's crowded. Worse, there are fairly large rocks in parts of the beach and LOTS of shells. This made for what felt to me like some pretty dangerous swimming […] and it certainly did not feel good on your feet. I've never experienced this before in Cancun. The hotel is all tile inside including the rooms. It's pretty. It's also very loud. If someone walks in front of your room at midnite, joking and laughing it will feel like they are in bed with you because there is nothing to absorb the sound. The air conditioner never got below about 70 degrees either and for me this is warmer than I'm used to it being when I sleep. The room service food for breakfast was just plain bad. Eggs that frankly looked odd, to orange, like maybe they weren't chicken eggs and didn't taste good. Watered down juice, burnt bacon. Just not good. The buffet food was better. The Italian and Oriental restaurant were good The Mexican restaurant was not good. Finally, the person entitle the "concierge" is not a concierge. They are a sales person, who will try to talk you into going to the Moon Palace and trying to buy into something they swear is not a timeshare. They brought this up every time we tried to get help from them. I found it annoying and deceptive since they weren't truly concierges. Read more

They have too many planners. So my hubby and I went there as honeymooners. After booking one activity, the planner we initially had to send us to Alma who is designated for honeymooners. Alma booked a romantic dinner for us and had to send us to another planner for concierge level activities. Waste of time. I didn't go on a vacation to PLAN it but did […] go to enjoy it. I tried hard to make the activity/spa/special dinner reservations in advance, but the hotel would not release any info nor would help you with making plans in advance. WHen you ask her a question, she will just tell you whatever will make her least work. The weather was perfect (18-22 Dec). It was our "end of the world trip" and we planned on having a pina colada in a fun place if the Mayans were right ;P The water was nice, big waves, crystal clear, no jellyfish or seaweed, no sharks! I LOVE that you can walk down to the beach and the lifeguard pulls your beach lounge chairs and digs a hole and measures the sun so you get shade. Either the liquor was watered down or the high-end brands were filled with some off-brand. We never really got a buzz... but then again maybe it was all the yummy shrimp tacos we were making poolside... Also, no coronas on the property:( When it comes to food this place definitely lives by "Quantity vs. Quality". They make foods and desserts very fancy looking and the flavor is totally lost in the process. The quality of meat/seafood is poor and you can tell because they have it sitting out so you can take raw pieces to the grill to be cooked. We had $750 "credits" but you find out when you get there that you have to pay 11% in taxs/fees. So the free $300 beach dinner ends up costing you over $30 out of pocket and you're getting the same food. Don't get tricked. Recommend 8th floor. Do not get road side. I heard it was loud. Also, lower level would be loud and some didn't have much privacy. Read more

Fabulous! Highly recommend Sun Palace for couples. Great food! grounds, staff! It was windy when we were there over Thanksgiving so take a windbreaker for at night. Also, be mindful of the rocks in the ocean. The water is amazing and no undertow. The buffet hotel lunch at the Alamo had a wide selection of proteins that we could select from to be cooked, which was an option we really appreciated. Calamari and salmon were often available along with tuna and beef. The cappuccino and gelato were also some of our favorites.

I will never be able to say enough about this hotel and I think this is probably the 4th time I've reviewed it. We've been going there every year since 2007, I think, and it never gets old for us. The hotel, though a bit older now, is impeccably maintained. All rooms have an ocean view and are very nice, my husband and I prefer to upgrade to the Junior […] Suite. Gives you a little bit of extra room, but we have stayed in a standard room and that was just a tad less roomy. All rooms have stocked minibars (included) and a jacuzzi hottub/bath which is romantic and incredibly relaxing. It's a small hotel with only about 240 rooms and it's couples only, so no screaming kids or roving singletons. Most people we've encountered on our trip there were there for the same thing we were, couple-time away from the family and a little romance. The food is excellent and there are four restaurants on-site, plus the option to eat at the other Palace resorts nearby: Beach Palace and Moon Palace. We did that once, but since then we've kept to the peaceful serenity of the Sun Palace. Tipping isn't really encouraged, but we take $100 in 1's for the various staff members. Golfing is very good at the Moon Palace and Riviera Golf Resort. The Spa is also wonderful and the service there is first-rate. Palace resorts currently has a $1500 resort credit so it's a great time to go as most tours, spa, golfing and even room upgrades are covered by the resort credit. Read more

We went for our honeymoon-everything was wonderful. There are activities each night if you want to stay out, or you can just relax all day if you want. The only thing I didn't love was the firmness of the bed and that the rooms had too much echo…we could hear everything in the hallways. Lots of great food options!

Would have gotten a better rating , but we had purchased a room with a balcony and view of the beach. Instead we got a room on the second story overlooking the 4 lane highway. So we heard the traffic all night long and worse during the day. We had to ask twice for a different room, but the best they could do was give us a portable fan to help drown […] out the highway noise at night, so we could at least sleep. And me and the wife got sick maybe from the food. The staff were great and attentive.Most of the food was very good. The drinks were also very good. The beach is beautiful as is the water. We did a few excursions , swim with the dolphins , jungle cruise, and was to sick to go on the Tulum ruins. So relaxed on the beach instead. We also used all of our $1500 in credit. But be warned you will be asked to go to the Moon Palace to sit through a time share speech. They try to get you to check out the moon palaces restaurants ,shops and bars. They provide a free ride there at 9:30 am , but they wont bring back tell 4:30pm. And if you want to leave before then its a 20 min ride in a taxi , and that will cost you $60. So before you go, try to verify your room. Beware of the palace moon resort, unless your shopping for a time share. But enjoy the beach, and their great staff. And do the excursions using your $1500 credit. And last thing , stay clear of room #234. Unless you like the view of the highway. Read more

We booked a room on the concierge level in advance because the reviews were so good for the concierge floors. We arrived at about 5:30pm on Saturday, February 25th. A bellboy called for someone to check us in. Nobody answered his call. He led us up to the fifth floor where there was a group of four at the concierge desk and another couple waiting in […] line. Someone arrived a few minutes later and assisted the couple waiting in line. Nobody came to check us in. We waited 45 MINUTES for the concierge desk to become available to us. This is INEXCUSABLE! We woke up at 4:30am to start our journey which included shuttle rides and two flights to get to the hotel in Cancun. We were tired, hungry, thirsty hostages at the Sun Palace. Sun Palace resort says it is for "couples only". This sounded great to us. However, we are a gay, unmarried couple. We did not feel comfortable at the resort. Sun Palace should say they are a resort for "married, straight couples". Our reservation card for our concierge-level dinner on the beach was pre-printed with "Mr. and Mrs." on it. This does not work for same-sex couples or unmarried straight couples. The $350 "romantic dinner" includes a photographer taking pictures of couples embracing, kissing, and in a variety of other poses. We were the only same-sex couple we saw at the resort. We didn't feel entirely comfortable. Finally, Sun Palace is more like a Marriott - which is good but not five stars. Read more

The beds were so hard and uncomfortable we honestly had trouble sleeping. We even had them put on two mattress covers. Nothing worked. New mattresses would be nice. The rooms were simple but kept incredibly clean. Our girl, Lucrezia, was a dream. So sweet and worked so hard. All of the wait staff, including the front desk girls at the "Alamo" were incredible and so pleasant each and every day! We made sure everyone had received something for their extra work they provided. Their smiling faces will be missed every day! Even the chefs were smiling. We thought about some ideas that would imporove the hotel. It is missing an area of relaxation (nice comfy couches, chairs, a Big screen TV, a pool table) since the rooms did not provide this.
