"Charming Berkeley Spot"
We had a very pleasant stay at the Rose Garden Inn on a wet, blustery Berkeley weekend. The hotel was clean, quiet, and we felt like we got a great deal for the area. It's not fancy, by any stretch, but clean. Wifi was great. Breakfast was fine.Genuine Expedia guest review
"One of the best hotel experiences...."
We couldn't stop saying "This place is just sooooo cute!" over and over again! Can't ask for anything more from a hotel really... Super friendly and helpful staff, comfortable and well maintained rooms, personal/family feeling of atmosphere, great free breakfast, close to the happenings on Telegraph but far enough away to be able to escape, quiet, beautiful […] grounds. It's not the newest hotel, but the personal touches and shabby chic-ness make it even BETTER than staying at the Ritz! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Rose Garden is "still the one""
I love quirky little independent hotels and B&B's, however the Rose Garden Inn is truly special. This is my third stay in as many years. It is very centrally located for anything anyone would want to do in Berkeley. It has all the amenities you'll need---free wireless, great breakfast comfy, quirky rooms. What makes this place shine is the staff. I'm […] not sure if it's just Berkeley but every, single person I've interacted with is simply delightful---appropriately friendly, genuinely helpful. Love this place. Only downside is some accessibility challenges is you are off the ground floor, typical for massive, old Victorian houses. What gives it charm makes it a bit less convenient for all comers. Well worth the quirkiness. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Charming B & B close to campus"
I was very comfortable there. It's the perfect place for a solo visit to UC Berkeley.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"close to cal"
The hotel was run down, maintenance was poor. Rooms were last updated in the 80's, peeling paint, old carpets that did not fit, The gardens were nice and the food was fine. Needs some TLC and updating. Refrigerators need to work.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Cute, comfortable hotel."
A very cute hotel that is close to UC Berkeley. Telegraph Rd. is a quirky part of town with a variety of shops and restaurants. The breakfast was good and there was plenty of variety. Parking was tight, but free.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice B&B in the heart of Berkeley"
Very nice bed and breakfast in the heart of Berkeley, but secluded from traffic and hustle/bustle. Great breakfast each morning. Nice garden seating area. Room with some character - fireplace nice touch.Genuine Expedia guest review

"You will not stop to smell the roses"
The Rose Garden Inn is a disaster and it pains me to say so since it's a local business in my town. I tried to spend the night there to get a full night's sleep since I live with a night-owl toddler. The woman at check-in was nice and moved me to an upstairs room since the Men's Chorus was practicing in the dining room. The trouble is that these buildings […] used to be old Victorians. The room was clean but worn out and while some work had been done to update the bathroom, the quality of the workmanship was lacking. The bigger issue, in any old house, is the thickness of the walls. You can hear EVERYTHING happening in the surrounding rooms. I walked home at 3 a.m. because the people across the hall were cramming for finals and speaking in full volume and I could hear every word. What really put me over the edge about this place, though, was the night clerk. He couldn't have cared less that there was a guest leaving in the middle of the night, not a "sorry, that's terrible" let alone a "let me go up and talk to them or see if we can move you to another room". Maybe he was just stoned or sleepy but he couldn't have cared less about my experience and now it's hard for me to care less about their continued success. I would certainly never let an out-of-town guest of mine stay there. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Love it and will be back for sure!"
I have been staying at this hotel a few times a year for many years. It may not be the most "up to date" hotel, but the warmth of the staff, the unique layout and history, and the great location make it my first choice in the area. The breakfast is great and the coffee is always on. Really, what more could you want?Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"B and B in Berkeley."
Stayed here before and found it a pleasant change from a hotel. More relaxed and friendly. I would like to have had more home-made style options in the breakfast rather than those stock commercial pastries- I liked the fresh cookies and available tea or coffee later in the day.Genuine Expedia guest review

Quaint and clean; decent breakfast included. It's in an older set of houses on a single property.Genuine Expedia guest review
I made my payment when I booked this inn via hotels.com. But the staff of this inn charged me agian when I checked in. I noticed this mistake few hours later and told the staff.
Genuine Hotels.com guest review
安全快適といった点では課題がいっぱいありますが、ビジネスホテル然とした都会のホテルにはない落ち着きがあります。それにしても家財道具、内装は私のDYＩの腕より劣る。これを味わいと見るかどうかは個人の感性と思います。Genuine Expedia guest review

"Småt men godt"
Vi boede 2 gange 2 nætter på hotellet. I start og slut af vores rejse. Begge gange i hovedbygningen. Nuttet hotel men meget små værelser.

The hotel itself is gorgeous, especially with the courtyard. The complimentary breakfast was delicious. However, what really made our stay was the impeccable service! I will absolutely stay here every time I am in the area!
"An Old Gem"

I stayed in the wrap-around King Suite for 2 nights when I recently had surgery in Oakland. I booked online - be sure to do that, as you will save yourself a lot of money! Online the price was $159 for the first night, and $189 for the second (a Friday) - the lady at the front desk quoted me $225/night when I called ): Not sure why the discrepancy. Anyway, the suite itself was quite lovely - big bay window w/window seat and lots of cushions, gas fireplace to take the chill off in the morning, and a very pretty stained glass window above the twin bed. My king-size bed was very luxurious and comfy. In this room, the sink is outside the bathroom which I don't really like. The room is on the second floor, and overlooks a busy street - could hear traffic noise at times, but not to the point that it bothered me. Garden is very pretty - I'd love to go back and see it in the spring/summer. Huge Datura trees, camellias, roses, etc., and pretty fountains, and wrought iron furniture all add to the charm. Breakfast is a bonus - same every morning, but good if you're just staying a couple of days like I was - sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs, "freezer" waffles, bagels, toast, fresh pineapple, dry cereals, and the usual assortment of jams, etc. Service is very good at the Rose Garden Inn. Some people might not care for the "musty" smell of the old buildings, but you get used to it after awhile. Mostly just noticed it in the foyer, or hallways - not in the suite itself. Windows open, so you can get all the fresh air you like. Just a matter of blocks from a lovely Whole Foods Market, which has lots of take-out options. Close to both surgeons I saw, and in a direct line to the Surgery Centre in Oakland - not far at all, and very convenient. A great place to recuperate after surgery. I would definitely stay there again, and would recommend it to others.

Very expensive for what you get. The room was a little weird. There was little to no natural light. There was a second bed which was at a different level to the main bed. It was just taking up space really and the room would have been nicer without it. The surfaces had a bit of a shabby finish. Overall the room was ok. The bathroom was big but the window looked out over the garden and the blind didn't go down the full way. I wasn't bothered too much but I guess some people would be. The price was ~700 dollars for 3 nights. Not worth the price unless you are looking for a somewhat B&B style thing, I was not. On that note the breakfast was ok if a little lukewarm. They did offer homemade complimentary cookies which were nice.

"B&B in Berkeley"
10/25/14 Jeff R Sacramento, California
We stayed here for one night to attend a Jimmy Buffet concert at the Greek Theater in October. The Rose Garden Inn is on a good sized piece of Berkeley property in a complex of quaint buildings with several room choices. The web site is well organized and provides valuable information in that regard. There is limited parking on site. We arrived at check in time and found a spot. Then, afterwards we realized there was a second lot on the other side of the property that was mostly empty. Check in was a breeze, the friendly staff showed us to our rooms and answered our questions. Wi-Fi worked well and our queen fireplace room was very comfortable. As with most B&Bs there are always little issues of ongoing maintenance, but nothing serious. Our porch light didn't work. No real problem. The grounds were well maintained and the place had a cozy airy belonging feeling about it. The property sign said "Welcome Home" and it felt like it. Grounds were accessible to guests only via key card. A nice security feature. Fresh homemade cookies in the afternoon and an incredible full buffet in the morning with plenty of pretty much anything you could want for breakfast; bacon, sausage, eggs, toast, waffles, biscuits, bagels, cereals, toast, muffins, sweet breads, fruit, juice and coffee. Yum. We stayed in room 408 and asked if it might get a little noisy in the morning with a day care facility next door. Not to worry - the understanding day care folks keep the little ones inside until 10:00 a.m. Never heard them. All and all, this is a wonderful place to stay in Berkeley and we'll likely stay here again.
"Nice and quiet!"
10/25/14 Kinalina Luleå, Sverige
A lovely building with many different houses and a beautiful garden with flowering trees and fragrant roses. This is located on Telegraph Avenue near the center of downtown. We chose a cozy room with a fireplace and it was so romantic. The breakfast was ok with eggs, bacon and good coffee. I would love to stay here again.
"No Air Conditioning"
10/04/14 BarbaraKNJ Washington Crossing, NJ
I stayed in a top floor with with a sliver of a view.mthere is no air conditioning. The sparse staff was nice. The breakfast was fine. The Victorian decor was no my taste. But the main problem was the hot room.
"Quaint, charming hotel near Berkley campus, Bart stations and Tilden Park."
10/01/14 Stacy F Virginia City, Nevada
We stayed here for my cousin's wedding which took place at the Brazil Room in Tilden Park. The rates seem to be average for the area, but are much higher than we are used to. This I a very unique hotel with rooms in different buildings/ houses. We managed to park in one of the small lots both nights of our stay, but be prepared to find on street parking. The breakfast was wonderful and there are indoor and outdoor dining areas. The best part was we were upgraded to a very large room, no charge. I think this maybe have been due to my request for a quiet room. There is no air conditioning, lucky for us it was not too hot during our visit.
"Not special for us"
07/28/14 deenaclaire westchester
I think all inns and b&bs are quirky. I don't really mind have a clothes closet in the bathroom, but some people might object. Our room was very small - couldn't even fit a comfy chair- but the mattress was certainly adequate. Decoration was not particularly noticable. The bathroom tub could use some renovation - or even a new tub. Not enough outlets for charging cellphones, laptops, etc. As I said, quirky. Breakfast was more than adequate, but a week's stay didn't show any changes whatsoever in the offerings, so it got a bit monotonous. Service in the inn was generally good. They were very willing to call taxis for us, but curiously unwilling to extend the check-out time by an hour.Beautiful gardens. If I were going to write The Great American Novel I might like to sit in the garden with a laptop and go at it. We did not find the location convenient for our visit. Not close to shops, and restaurants were sparse within a two-block walk.
"The Garden Inn does not have A/C"
07/15/14 Sconcez Austin, Texas
The Rose Garden Inn is a pretty old, badly maintained facility. The people who run it are nice and kind, but the location (hotel buildings between car parks and car shop), the excess of stair, no A/C, make it a really bad choice, mainly for the summer! It is not "a bohemian style", it is a mess, simply not comfortable, impossible to stay during the summer months! The web site did not mention the missing A/C.
