Clontarf Castle Hotel - Dublin

We loved it. The ambiance, the quality, the staff and amenities were all great. Loved the bar, and my first glass of Guinness in Ireland, a very fine pint indeed. Dont even consider staying anywhere else until you look over the amenities of this hotel.

It is essentially in a residential neighborhood so close by shops and restaurants don't exist. To stay at a castle that looks old on the outside and is super modern on the inside is a great choice. The staff is outstanding. The rooms were nice, clean snd quiet Knights Inn had very good food.lt is located in a upscale quiet neighborhood.The rate was a bargain. I hope to teturn someday.Bus stops outside the rate hotel

Isolated hotel with very nice friendly and efficient staf. Decor is sort of a cross between a castle and an up-scale mens club. Great place for a meeting since no one is going to wander away and the moat is hard to operate (just kidding about the moat). The hotel, the staff, the grounds were impecable. The only issues iI found, and certainly not deal breakers, were: 1. The plumbing I was unaccustomed to, the shower and toilet were challenges at first. 2. The rooms offered both 220 volt and 115 volt outlets. Both rooms we stayed in the 120 volt circuits had tripped prior to a our visit, the staff was […] not prepared to turn them back on. However, they quickly offered converters so we could charge out electronics. 3. The hotel is secluded and a fair distance from any convenience store and didn't have a on site shop for sundries one would like not convenient to bring on flight like toothpaste, hair products.... I mention these things only to make the hotel aware some might have issues and the staff is so attentive and mostly intuitive so noted only because there is always room for improvement in any business. Although an international group of guests stayed there, the hotel bar attracted local clientele that expanded the atmosphere. The food in the restaurant was outstanding, the breakfasts a real treat with delicious pastries baked on the premises. The concierge arranged our tours of Dublin and we were picked up at the door. Staff was more than helpfull, they went out of their way to help us with renting a car, getting taxis and offered advice on what to see and do. Hotel was beautiful! Rooms could be bigger, bathroom very tiny and the shower water would run all over the floor because of the design of the glass doors. Very charming hotel with friendly staff and comfortable room. Only complaint was that I wished pillows were a little softer - but the same as many other hotels we stayed at in Ireland. Really cool place to stay. You don't stay in the castle part as the hotel is built around the castle. Free parking is nice. There is a bus stop about a 10 minute walk away that costs €2 and gets you into the heart of Dublin. Staff is friendly and helpful.

The desk clerk told us he was giving us a nice room with a four poster bed but he didn't. We walked so far down a long hallway to find our room that we didn't have the energy to go back to the front desk to ask what had happened to our promised four poster bed, which we hadn't asked for in the first place but sounded just lovely. The carpet in our room […] was dirty and had big wrinkles in it and that was a disappointment. We are very tall, so I kept banging my head on the gabled ceiling in our fourth floor room. Our room was very small, but the bed was extremely comfortable and the air conditioning was top notch. Clontarf Castle was a great combination of the old and the new, a modern hotel with the history of an actual Irish castle. And not at all the commercial tourist trap I feared. We stayed two nights in Dublin -- our first and last nights in Ireland. We chose the more bed and breakfast-type Ariel House the first night, and wanted something completely […] different for our last night. Clontarf delivered beautifully! Nestled in a neighborhood outside downtown Dublin, the grounds were serene. Parking was ample (and free) with ready access to cabs or mass transit (a short walk, five minutes or so, we were told). The castle was beautiful -- and real! The hotel itself is quite modern. Our room was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was quite large and had one of the better showers were saw during our seven-day trip. The modern decor was in contrast to the castle, but it worked well and we liked it, especially the unexpected lights in the headboard (pink colored light blocks that looked quite chic). Overall a very satisfying experience. I wish we'd had more time to spend at the hotel exploring (we didn't get to visit the restaurant, bar or castle lounge, but all three looked comfortable and interesting). Read more

We intentionally booked this hotel, to avoid downtown Dublin. There is a city bus which takes you into Dublin, so it was convenient. We stayed 3 nights, and Sunday night was great. We only used the Castle to sleep as we have family nearby. Since we were staying for 6 nights they tried to give us a quiet room on the top floor. Problem is the large amount of wedding business and guests who run the halls early in the morning. My only complaint about the room is that the tv is impossible to view from the bed. The breakfast wait was disorganized with one person trying to seat us and another saying no so we left and did not use any restaurant facility.
