The rooms were gorgeous and the staff was awesome. The dinner at Farenheit was great (early bird special so it was cheaper) and the Knights bar was very freindly. It was a quick bus ride from Dublin, but you do have to switch buses when coming from the airport, but pretty easy to catch. Would totally go back here.

I will stay here again. 10 minute walk in a residential neighborhood to the bus stop and a 15 minute bus ride to the center of Dublin. We stayed one night in the center of Dublin and i much prefer to stay away from all of the hustle and bustle.

This hotel is a real find. Myself and my partner went for a weekend from England after not having been to Ireland at all before and found it very welcoming. we got there at about half nine at night and there was a wedding reception in full swing. i'm not surprised it is popular with newlyweds as the building is amazing. we checked in and the receptionist made sure we had a room away from the reception. we didn't even have to ask for them to do this. the hotel was decorated to a very high standard and the room was lovely. The hotel is situated about a 20 min bus ride away from Dublin centre and a ticket cost us only 1 euro 60 each. Great value we thought and the bus system is easy to understand. I had heard a lot of things about Ireland, but the one thing that stood out is that everyone is just so nice and that is very true. overall we thought this hotel was outstanding and a real treat for a weekend away, i would definately go back!

We (middle aged adult couple) picked this hotel for our last night in Ireland as it was reasonably close to the airport (15 minutes during rush hour - the hotel provided good written directions including the amusing "turn right just after the Bingo parlor"). Some reviews found it lacking in terms of value & location so we approached cautiously, but were pleased in every way. Had a beverage in the elegant bar during the national hurling finals, then a reasonably priced early-bird dinner in the dining room, where the food and service were great. Our room had every convenience, very modern. The public areas are charming. Earlier in the trip we stayed right in city center for convenience but for a first or last night, Clontarf was perfect and we'll definitely recommend it to others.

I didn't know what to expect from Clontarf, since some of the reviews at Hotels.com were not as favorable as others. But this hotel is a gem -- especially for the price. The location is about as good as it gets: about ten minutes by car to both St. Patrick's Cathedral and the airport. The hotel itself is much more than I hoped for at this price -- old world charm on the outside and all modern conveniences in the rooms -- considering I paid much more for tiny B&B rooms in Galway and Westport. Good room service (best Irish stew I've ever had) and comfortable pub. I'll definitely make Clontarf Castle hotel the first stop on my next trip to Ireland. It's just a short drive to Trim (one of the best castle excursions I've ever made) and many other top historical sites, which makes it an ideal home base for me.

When we showed up, we were informed that instead of having a queen/king/double bed, we'd get two twins - and since it was the only room left, the only consolation they could offer was a free breakfast buffet for two. They tried to charge us for it the next day, but when I explained the situation to them, they didn't press the issue. Other than that, service was great. Wake-up call was right on time, they called a cab for me like I requested. Buffet was excellent. Hotel exterior and interior was GORGEOUS and the rooms were spacious, clean and comfy.

We decided to spend out last night at the castle for a special night, and I just didn't think it was worth it. Clontarf's staff was fabulous, and the hotel was very nice. This hotel was picked as we wanted a more peaceful stay. Didn't fancy a stay in town. Hotel website and room info claim Dubin is a 10 minute bus ride - they obviously haven't used it. Don't be fooled it's 30 minutes off peak and 45 minutes peak however the bus stop is just outside the hotel and went every 10 minutes which was good. The hotel itself was very well furnished, unfortunatly while we were their builders were working on the tower, they didnt start work till after 9am but no good if you wanted a lie in. Also we managed to get the room next to the lift so from 6.30 am we were kept awake with the lift going up and down. The bar was very nice and busy (good atmosphere) closed early though which was a shame. Didn't sample the food as my wife is vegatarian and minimal options on menu as such went to Dublin for food. Would I recommend the hotel? yes - we would go again - I would request a differant room next time though.. Overall a great stay and Dublin is a fantastic city.

This was a very nice hotel, but we planned this for our last 2 nights in Ireland since it is out of the way for any sightseeing or shopping. We had already done all our touring and shopping and were ready for a good nights rest before heading back to the US on our long flight home. This was perfect and if you want to go to town, you can take a convient bus. However, we did experience a couple of issues. We paid for 24 hrs. internet access on our TV and it was down for several hours, but they allowed us to go to the concierges and use their computer. The other problem we had was dinner in the upscale restaurant was very expensive...150 Euro for 2 and the sirloin steak I had was very tough, not what you expect with a $35 steak. But you can eat in the nice bar for much less. We would stay again and recommend this hotel if you want to be away from the busy city noise.

Once we got to the restaurant we were told it wasn't included, although they did give us a reduced price for our meal it felt like a lure to get you to eat at the hotel. The other thing was we were charged 9 euros for them to put 2 postcards in the mailbox that already had postage on them. The location is in a residential area there is a bus stop, but a little confusing to figure out which one to take. We mainly used cabs a little pricey and much easier.

This hotel was an outstanding choice for the last night of our Irish driving vacation. When we pulled in, we were tired and grubby, so it was delightful to arrive to a great shower and a huge, plush bed. Built around a former castle, the hotel has a lot of character, and management provides a comprehensive history of the site. Today it's a stylish, modern hotel, popular for weddings, with three distinct bars/restaurants that serve very good food. As others have said, you probably wouldn't want to stay here if going to Dublin city center every day was your goal. But if you've already done the Dublin thing and want to experience a lovely seaside neighborhood, this is the place. Thanks to all at the Clontarf for an excellent night!

If you've read my previous reviews, you'll know that my wife and I went for a quick weekend getaway in Dublin. I booked rooms at three different hotels to get a different picture of the city. This was our last stop and the hotel was chosen to get out of the city. It was the perfect place to end our vacation. The hotel is away from all the action (15-20 Euros from City Center) so don't plan on making this your headquarters if you are going to be in Dublin. At the same time if you want to disappear from the pubs and shops, this is a great place. The room was comfortable; not huge, but certainly not small. We stayed there on a Sunday night when the rate was roughly half the weekend rate; so it was a great value. Unless you have a car or want to take buses and taxis, once you get to the hotel you are there for good. There is not a lot to do right around the hotel. At the same time, the hotel is north of the city which means it is closer to the airport for an early departure. The castle portion was amazing. The rooms are actually in a building that is attached to the castle; so no, you are not actually staying inside a castle. We had a few drinks in one of the lounges and the prices were comparable to that of the pubs downtown. We also had dinner at the restaurant. It was a rather upscale place, but they did not seem to mind our casual/business-casual attire. The food was excellent, but you may want to plan on sharing.
