Hotel charged an extra $70USD for a fridge. Charged extra for a lock for the room safe. Charged $100USD when I lost the safe key. Will charge $25 if you lose card to get beach towels. Must carry a wrist band with all times to get into hotel, so that every criminal on the street knows which hotel you are staying at (and are currently not at). Curtains […] had black mold. A/C only ran if A/C was on 60 degrees. Shower door leaked all over the bathroom. Maids constantly keyed into the room when the "do not disturb" sign was on the door. We love the San Marino because of its great location. We don't rent a car and like being able to walk to everything... restaurants, shopping, the Malecon, etc. And the old pier has now been replaced and the new pier opened January 4, 2013. It is absolutely beautiful, especially at night when it is lit up! We like the San Marino!

I have stayed at many hotels & a condo in PV. I hadn't stayed at the San Marino in eight years. I returned to the San Marino this year because the hotel we normally stay was booked. I was reluctant as the hotel was run down eight years ago. What a difference. If you come to PV to stay in your hotel you're missing out. However, after a day at the beach or out & about town returning to your hotel should be a pleasant experience. This hotel is centrally located in town, nearby restaurants are vast, beach is right at your footsteps, massage & spa salon on site, convenience store across the street, newly renovated pier within view, and on and on. I will definitely return to the San Marino. And, upon arrival Pedro is not only adorable and helpful, but his personality we experienced daily coming & going was priceless. Great service over all at desk, upon arrival, and around the pool. We did not do an all inclusive because the food was eight years ago, terrible and from what we heard hasn't improved all that much. But, who cares because we like to eat out any way. I wish they would put in a few computer terminals in to check your email, but if you have a smart phone or laptop, the wi-fi from what I heard is strong and reliable in and around the pool area- which is great. I got the all inclusive 5 days, 5 nights..... Well, The hotel rooms were very run down. You can feel the springs on the mattress. The bathroom had broken tile and the sliding door was painted dark brown so you can't see when you are in the shower. I literally had to keep sliding door open so light could come in. The towels were rough and the toilet […] was a commercial toilet (tube coming out of the wall) and it was leaking from the lever. oh, and the desk in the room seemed to be coming off the wall it was facing south I couldn't place anything on it because it woudl roll down. The food was not good at all and it was pretty much the same thing every single day. I was not pleased.. I was happy to be in vallarta though so all that didn't phase me. It just sucks that I paid an all inclusive and I went out to eat every day.. The people at the desk could have been a little nicer. they don't say hi to you unless you say it to them first. All of the rooms face the pool and there is music blaring from 11:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. every day, rain or shine, not to mention all of the other noise from kids in the pool, etc. And, if you have a room on the side of the hotel, you also get street noise. Wonderful experience at The San Marino Hotel in Puerto Vallarta. This is my fifth time to PV but my first to this hotel. Arriving at the hotel, everyone greeted us, check in went smoothly, I was given a cerveza before I saw my room, we did the inclusive with the average room, we did the room up grade. Incredible view from the 6th floor facing the water. The buffet is better then most, good variety, could use a little more fruit variety. Maid service was good and prompt. After staying at the large hotels north of the town with limited events, and now staying at San Marino with everything you could ever imagine, dining, clubs and shopping just around the corner, I will be back to the San Marino in the "romantic zone". It has been ten years since I was in PV, the Malecon entertainment is much upgraded, sand sculplures, live evening entertainment, security was never a thought as the Malecon lighting and Policia were very good. The beach at San Marcos is very clean and entertaining. Interaction with the locals and San Marino guests while on the beach made the day very fun. Evening walks on the Malecon and a few blocks off the main streets were safe and secure. Not a single problem. Will I be going back to The San Marion, yes and before the year is out! The weather was great, 80's for a high and very pleasant at nite. The real suprise is the upgrade in cabs. The cabs weren't the old beaters of 10 years ago. Now we rode in newer air conditioned mini vans! The funniest thing that happened was arriving at the airport the "tour hawkers" grab you and have their sales people give you a speil about their tours. Then you are escorted over to the cab counter and the girls are hanging out of their booths, three booths in a row, trying getting your attention to take their companies cab. This is our first time staying here, have stayed at others but not all inclusive. The price was excellent for 2 weeks, not much more than the non all inclusive. If you dont wont to get bombarded by venders on the beach you should stay at the pool also. The bar closes at 10 but thats alright for us we where usually done by then or if not we would get a couple of extras and go to our balcony. Upon check-in, we were given a wrist band to identify hotel guests and a room key with a long string to loop around the neck and a TV remote control. Overall the hotel was what you paid for. The biggest complaint was the beds. I have NEVER slept on a more uncomfortable bed in my entire life. Luckily, we had all inclusive and I figured I would get trashed and be able to sleep on the bed. WRONG! You know the beds are bad when you can barely stumble to them and still not be able to sleep on them. The […] food was ok and had its highs and lows. It was all buffet style and typically would have different food items for every meal. Some things were the same, but usually some diversity. Another complaint was that the hotel bar opened at 11 and closed at 10. Since the beds were horrible I woke up every morning at 6 and had to wait until 11 for a drink. I was on vacation, its 5 o'clock somewhere! The excursion people were pretty annoying and hounded you like crazy. It just so happens that the bar is right next to their office. As soon as you went for a drink they darted towards you. I will say the ATV excursion was AWESOME! Best excursion I have ever done. The guy who took us was great and spoke english very well. We felt safe the majority of the time and ran across only one problem where one of the workers who promotes the night life and club scene harassed one of the girls we were with and made her feel so uncomfortable that she ran to her room in tears. Overall for the amount of money I paid I cannot complain. If you don't mind being surrounded by the locals and homosexuals, this is the place for you! Read more

We just got back form a long Labor Day weekend at the San Marino in Puerto Vallarta. We love staying in the Romantic Zone and have been trying out different hotels in the area. The hotel is not a 5 star by any means, but the staff was friendly, it was clean and the location and room are fantastic. You must upgrade to the Jr. Suite, couldn't imagine […] staying in some of the other rooms w/out a view. We did the all inclusive, just because it was a minimal amount extra, really for breakfast, lunch and cocktails. We would never eat dinner there, not with so many great restaurants in town. Typically you can't go wrong with breakfast, but that was lacking most days and not appetizing (in some cases food on the buffet was scarce). Lunch was scary but after the first day went up the beach to have a bite. I wouldn't do the all inclusive option there again, but it was worth the shot. It is a great location but weekends in this area (right by the pier) are very busy and crazy. A lot of locals and great people wathcing. If you want something a little more quiet you need to head down the beach for a quieter spot. All in all not bad, what we expected but probably wouldn't rush back to this hotel either. Read more

Turns our he worked for a time share resort and tried to corner us every chance he got for the first 4 days of our stay, desperately trying to get us to come to a time share presenation. Excellent location as you don't have to take a taxi anywhere and all the action is on the Malecon in old town and in old town. The beds are a bit hard so ask for a piece of foam for the bed at no extra charge. If you like excitment on the beach this is your spot. Lots of food vendors on the beach and safe to eat it all if you do not do all inclusive […] which I don't recomend to do as the food is a mistery. Beers are only $1.00 and the surrounding resturants are all great to eat at. All the Italian resturants are fantastic excpecially their pizzas. The taco stand on the opposite side of hotel San Marino on Rudolpho drive at the corner of Olas Atlas is the best tacos you will ever eat. The best shopping is lying on the beach If you don't want to go to the dance clubs on the Malecon, then Aundalles is the spot for good old rock and roll and dancing, plus you can ride the donkey through the bar for fun. The plug ins are the same as Canada, no one ever tells you that, and no hairdryers supplied so bring your own, but they do have on request. Don't use the hotel phone to call home, as they charge to much, buy a phone card from the OXXO stores and oh ya you can buy beer out of there to. Renting a private boat from Chico on Rudalpho street at the peer is the way to go if you want to see Yullapa, Mismaloya and those beaches, don't cram onto those water taxis as you miss the whole experience of those beaches I mentioned. The room was clean. We had a junior suite which was large with a view over the beach. Asked for King size bed but room had two hard double beds. The swimming pools are small but otherwise ok. It is hard to get a chaise by the pool or on the beach as everyone went down in the early morning but many people did not seem to use their chairs all day. Many […] places now allow you about an hour away then remove your stuff. Lots of smokers at the hotel smoking around the pool and outisde on the patio at meals. Breakfast omelette was good. Coffee was good. All other food at breakfast and supper was not what I would choose to eat. Lunch was mediocre at best. We did not eat supper there. Wireless internet is available in the cafe.
