"not to recommend anyone to go to this hotel"
my experience at this hotel was really terrible , once I got assigned to a room the first thing I smelt when I was opened was a stink odor . I don't know how I could even stay their for just a night . So I had to spray perfume in the whole room . Then the air conditioning wasn't good either . It was really humid no air what so ever.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great for the discounted price"
The staff in the front desk were incredibly helpful for directions, bus routes, cab rides, and special requests. Shout out to Rackelle (sorry if that's spelled incorrectly); thank you so much again! It was fantastic that the beach was a short 10 minute walk. Bus stops were close by. There was a fashion center of some sort nearby for dining. The recommended […] Doraku sushi and Chibo okonomiyaki were delicious. The only down side was the room didn't have a fan so it did get pretty warm and the cleaning staff took old towels but did not replace them with new ones. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice and friendly place to stay"
Everything went smoothly from booking to checking in. Front desk was very friendly and down to earth. We enjoyed our stay!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Over all our stay was good. Great location close to everything. The rooms wasn't a 5 star hotel but it was good enough for our stay. I would stay here again for the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not worth the money. Better for the same price."
Check-In staff not friendly at all. Rooms were old and smelled. Bathroom disqusting, wore my flip flops in the shower. Walls were paper thin, could here everything outside. Even people walking down the side walk talking, and we were 5 floors up from street.Genuine Expedia guest review
It was closer to Kona downtown than our last hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Too noise, too old."
The air condition is make very loud noise, and the staff won't do anything after we'd complain about, house keeping also talk to loud when come to clean the room a cross from us, couldn't get to rest at night or day. Some one calling us to make sure that we didn't have four people in one room without checking on my reservation that I have booked for […] two room, is unprofessional. Very old and outdated hotel for the price. Parking is expensive. It is not worth it to stay here.Genuine Expedia guest review
"This Hotel needs updating, but location is good."
I'd give this hotel about an average rating. It definitely needed upgrading in the rooms, even though they did some work in the lobby area, they should put their money into the rooms. It's dingy and the carpet needs some work done, along with the old fashioned television set. Also, you may want to call the hotel after you've booked with Expedia to make […] sure that you get the kind of room you had requested from Expedia. We got two double beds, rather than the king size bed that we've asked for. The cost for all day parking is $24.99 + tax, and it's only valet parking, so there's tipping involved. It's a big cost if you have to have a car and it just sits there. Although I'd recommend it, if you don't have a lot of money to go to another hotel, I'd seriously think about spending another $50 to upgrade to a better hotel in and around the area. However, the location is really what you're buying here. Although it's not across from the beach, it's very close to everything else. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice hotel right close to waikiki"
Nice hotel close to beach (walking distance). couple of options close by for eating. ABC store at first floor is good. Overall value of moneyGenuine Expedia guest review
Hotel has seen better days. Needs serious updating. No exhaust fans in bathroom. Old tv. Air conditioner is very loud but traffic was louder so had to use ac for air flow. The staff were very friendly though. Would likely not stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"In the center of it all!"
The Waikiki Gateway is comfortable, clean and safe. The staff were very helpful. It is within a short walk of restaurants, shopping and the ocean. When I made an online inquiry about using the shuttle prior to my arrival, I received a prompt, helpful reply. Although I was not expecting a frig, 2 views of Waikiki or a view of Diamond Head, I had them […] all! I will stay there the next time I go to Honolulu and will not hesitate to recommend it to others. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
It was okay, The room was quite spacious, lots of lanai space, bit dirty outside, didnt want to really sit down and enjoy the lanaiGenuine Expedia guest review
"Sorta pretty, sorta meh"
Hotel is very hard to get to, had to drive around a series of one way streets to find the entrance. No mention of the parking fees visible while handing car over to valet, no self parking option. But in and out is included and the valets were fast and friendly. Over all the staff was very nice, but seem unsure how to deal with problems. The lobby is […] beautiful but the floors and rooms and quite beat up under layers of touch up paints. Beds we had were trailered to an Asian clientele and were very hard, unknown if other options available. Hotel's proximity to the beach is deceiving in the advertising images... It is several blocks across very busy streets. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"10-15 minutes to the beach and a good location."
10 minutes to the beach and a nice location that allows for walks through downtown Honolulu from this hotel. It's not a newer hotel by any means, but it's one of the more affordable ones if you're on a budget. Be aware that if you rent a car, the parking will be about $26 per day to park in the hotel basement garage. It was handy having an ABC store […] right within the hotel also. $9.99 breakfast buffet available, though I never tried it. There is a makeshift laundry room where you can do loads for $3.75 per. and the outdoor pool that is on the same floor also is small and not much to see and do there. "Upgrade Room for A Quality Stay"
The entire staff was excellent. They were all friendly, polite, courteous and helpful. The Director of operations must supervise, instruct and regulate his staff in a dedicated manner. The staff makes your stay a positive hotel experience. The Hotel is about a 10-12 minute walk from the beach, but is very near to many restaurants, shops, public busses, […] and trolleys. The closest are within a 2 to 3 minute walk. There is an ABC store and a separate bar at the hotel. For breakfast, I recommend Mooseheads on Leward Street about a 4 minute walk or the restaurant right across the street adjacent to another hotel. For dinner, the best value for quality and price is the Cheesecake Factory. For happy hour including appetizers , PF Changs is the place. I booked a basic room and this was a mistake. Both Although it had a city view and balcony, the room and bath were very tiny and with luggage, it was nearly impossible to move around and we are small in size. I rate our one night in this room as mediocre and a 1 star rating. For the following 4 nights, we upgraded for a reasonable charge with the help of the front desk clerk and our stay became a superior quality hotel experience with a 4 star rating. Remember, this is a budget priced hotel for Waikiki and even with the added cost, we probably saved anywhere from 20 to 60% depending upon what other hotel you might choose. Either at booking or at check in, upgrade. You can view a room prior to checking in. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Decent hotel for the location and price"
This a no frills but decent hotel in Waikiki for the location and price. The beach and downtown Waikiki are all within walking distance. The rooms are a nice size, but I thought that the A/C was a bit undersized for the room. In room internet costs extra.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"You don't get what you pay for"
This hotel needs a major upgrade, especially the fourth floor, bar and breakfast area. The room was ok, but is in need of some good fixing up, especially in the bathroom. The service on the front desk was great, we have no complaints there. It is just the overall upkeep of the hotel. It needs a little TLC.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good price decent location"
The Decor is new. They were still painting a few of the floors. Strong paint smell. There he clean. The hotel staff was excellent. Extremely nice people. Very helpful. I was pleased with the service and helpful bus info. Great location near bus stop. Short walk to beach. Short walk to shopping. It's easy to catch a bus.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Rooms are dirty and outdated."
Our room didn't look anything like what they show on the Internet. It was so dirty and smelled like smoke so we asked for a different room. Although the staff accommodated us, the new room wasn't much better.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Surpassed Our Expectations"
After reading several reviews, I prepared for the worst. However, upon our arrival to Waikiki Gateway, I was pleasantly surprised to find that our room was large, clean, and better than what I expected. We were in a corner room on the 6th floor. We had two king sized beds and two balconies. There was a mini fridge, a coffee maker, closet space, and […] a safe. Staff was friendly. The convenience of the location was a plus. We weren't too far from Waikiki beach and the Ala Moana Center, which took about 15 minutes to each location by walking. Bus stops are near. Also, the Gateway has its very own ABC store. We didn't use the pool so I can't say much about that. Overall, we had a great experience at Waikiki Gateway. It was our home away from home for a while. I would definitely recommend staying here to friends and family. Enjoy!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Cockroaches in the rooms, unpleasant odor, lots of noise from the streets, long walk to Waikiki beach.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Can't beat the location"
We stayed overnight twice in the last month, going to and coming from Australia. It's much nicer to stay in Waikiki than near the airport, although the cab fare is high and the traffic always bad. We were very pleased with the Gateway -- would have stayed longer if we could.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"great price for waikiki"
Decent room. Lots of movies to order. I would stay again and choose this hotel over ambassador and maile. $100 security deposit.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Mis-rated: should be 2.5*"
If this were a 2.5* I would have no complaints. However, the air conditioner didn't work well (we were sweating until about 2AM), the paint around the shower was very chipped, they had the smallest TV I've seen in years of frequent traveling (also not a flatscreen, which was weird). Just overall not up to 3* standards.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I read the reviews and almost didn't stay there. I'm glad I did. Friendly staff. Good security. Great room first two nights. I needed to stay one extra night and my room wasn't as nice. This could be why the reviews vary.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"small and quiet"
stayed 6 nights over thanksgiving weekend. very little road noise. was on the 6th of 16 floors. hotel is situated at the junction of 2 main streets in waikiki. window air conditioners are located close to the floor so be prepared to kneel to read the labels if the remote doesn't work. front desk staff was very pleasant.Genuine Expedia guest review
"This hotel locates at a very noisy location."
I was very disappointed to do the prepaid booking with this hotel. This hotel locates at the busy and noisy traffic location where local buses/tour buses stopped to pick up passengers all night/day long. In addition, there are also trucks that drive by the streets...It was so noisy at night that me and my friends couldn't sleep at all at night. The […] bathroom is small and way outdated. The hotel itself is quite old. Most of the front desk staffs are not friendly and polite. I wonder why this hotel is rated at 3 stars, it should be only 2 stars. I will never wanted to stay at this hotel again even though if their rate is cheapest. When you're on a vacation, you want to be able to have a good night sleep, unfortunately you won't be able to sleep well at night if you stay at this hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Gateway to everything."
Hotel is close to everything you need. ABC store right in front. Very convenient. The room is clean. But one of my four rooms has this sewage odor in the bath room. The other rooms are fine. Great view of Waikiki. The surrounding front streets might be a little too congested because it's located in between Kalakaua and Kuhio which are the two main streets […] in Waikiki. Other than that, everything else is great. Friendly staff and friendly guests. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Old and uncomfortable"
Right when we got off the elevator the whole hall way and room was humid and stale. The bedding was new, and they looked nice, but the mattresses were old and the room had two full beds when i reserved one king. The bathrooms were discusting and small. Popcorn ceilings, rusted small tub, AC unit was in the window and sounded like a small generator running […] in the room. We also had a loud whistle coming from the bathroom pipes that there was nothing we could do about. I didnt expect fancy, but i did expect decent based on the pictures. "The magic of Gateway hotel"
This was my second time staying at Gateway hotel, At first I was staying on the 4th floor, room 415, had a low view of khuhio ave, I felt it was too noisy for my taste, then i choose to upgrade my room, for 20 more dollars per night, the fourteen floor, room 1410, was amazing, quiet, breath taking view, decent size, balcony, good bathroom. I felt as […] thought my vacations just begin the right way, then i has super happy!!! the staff was super nice, attentive and respectful. THANK YOU GATEWAY HOTEL.. "Excellent value for a place to spend the night!!"
Who comes to Hawaii to enjoy sitting around their hotel facilities?? This hotel is an excellent value, as it is generally under $100/nt, and provides all of the basic amenities that we have come to expect (basic cable, take-out menus, coffee maker, blow dryer), and the ABC Store adjacent to the lobby is a great help!! They were very flexible with me, […] and even upgraded me despite not having a credit card to hold a deposit. One downside is that there is only one ice machine in the hotel, but with three elevators it is quick and easy to access. I would definitely recommend this as my number 1 choice in Honolulu, and I have never stayed anywhere else on the island. Oh, and by the way, I am a Hawaii resident with a background in housekeeping, and hospitality. Much ALOHA from Kauai!!!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"One of the best hotels I have been"
After a really long flight/layovers I had been up for over 24hrs I got to the hotel about midnight. The person at the front desk(Heidi) was very freindly and helpful. I was not sure what to expect since some of the reviews were not very good. I stayed on the 15th floor, had a great view of the city. I had the breakfast buffet which was not bad, good […] way to start the day. I thought the location was perfect a short walk to everything that I wanted, the beach maybe a 5 minute walk, a couple great places to eat near by Cheeseburger Wakiki. The staff was very helpful I asked to get a cab, to take me to Diamonod Head. Not sure of her name but she was very helpful also. The only negative and I don't consider it a big deal is you can hear the traffic. Like I mentioned not a big deal I can deal with that, very comfy beds. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
