"NOT WORTH STAYING THERE!!"
WE ASKED FOR A ROOM THAT WAS QUIET AND THEY PUT US NEXT TO THE LAUNDRY WHERE THE WORKERS YELLED AND PLAYED AT ALL HOURS. THIS HOTEL IS NOT AS GOOD AS MANY MOTEL 6'S WE'VE STAYED IN. CERTAINLY NOT WORTH WHAT WE PAID FOR IT. IT NEEDS SOME SERIOUS MAINTENANCE. BREAKFAST WAS GOOD. SPEND YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great value in Santa Barbara"
Handsome, well maintained grounds; very good service; free breakfast; soft beds. Very satisfied.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good hotel for price"
Hotel was nice, although the rooms were a little outdated and needed some new carpets. The humidity seemed to have gotten the better of the room as it smelled a little musty and the door would stick. But overall it was clean and everything worked fine. The beds were good and the furniture seemed well maintained.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel is old and needs some TLC and upgrading. Ants in the bathroom. Bathroom tile missing.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Economical nice for Santa Barbara getaway"
This was a nice motel for our weekend. Very clean, friendly staff, easy parking and felt safe. Off the main drag but only minutes away and Santa Barbara is a easy parking place to be.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Would stay again"
Really liked our room near pool. Bath tub seriously needs to be replaced. Our room had not been cleaned when we returned at 6 p.m. We've stayed before and all in all, for the price this is a decent value.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The comfort of the room, the modern feel, the best rest I had on my whole trip.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"A nice stay for the price."
Add one extra toilet paper per room. We had no spare roll. Toilet was loud, but did report that. Grounds were very nicely kept. Breakfast area was very nice. Suggestions would be to add fresh waffles.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Clean, well-priced accommodations in a quiet, clean setting. Do not expect fashionable decor nor special amenities, but mircowave and small refrigerator, ironing board and iron are available in the room. Good value.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Sullen staff, dirty room, bait and switch tactics."
We booked a room for two adults and one teenager, but were given a tiny room filled with one king sized bed. When we went to the desk to get things straightened out, they told us they told us they could provide a small roll away at an additional cost. Bathroom was also dirty and beds sagged badly. Hotel does not provide any beach equipment (even towels), […] despite advertising such amenities. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Clean room with interesting decor, two pools, a hot tub, and better than average free breakfast!! We really enjoyed our one night at this hotel, and would recommend it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean and close to Mission Santa Barbara"
very clean and nice staff. Only hiccup was that our room wasn't clean the next day, after being gone all day. However, they immediately sent someone to take care of it and gave us more time to explore the town. It's on the main street which is only about 10 mins.drive from everything. Definitely stay there againGenuine Expedia guest review
"Will not return"
Pillows were old and not comfortable. Shows it's age. Pictures are much nicer than reality.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to city center"
The motel is close to city center in Santa Barbara and nearby highway 1. Good breakfast and several pools to enjoy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Staff was ver friendly. No problem getting more towels. Bathroom shower had mold in it is the only problem we hadGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great Location-Close to Downtown"
Our stay at The Sandman was very nice. We have stayed here before and know what to expect. This time our room was a bit smaller than what we have experienced before, but it was still more than adequate. Also, the water in the bathtub backed up quite a bit; I think that the drainage needs some attention.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"UCSB drop off"
Hotel is located near everything..restaurants, markets, gas stations. Hotel was clean and staff was friendly. But oh how I wish the walls/floors were not so thin. I had no intention being up at 6:00 am. But the upstairs people were all over the room and I heard EVERY SINGLE STEP. They were not stomping it was just the walls/ floors were very thinGenuine Hotels.com guest review
too old building and too small bed. bathroom is dirty and shower knob is broken and too old. outside is pretty clean but inside is terrible.Genuine Expedia guest review

"It does not worth the money I've paid"

"Upper State Street Oasis"
Love the new room renovations! Always enjoy the breakfast area, pools, and location on upper State Street. Wish the WiFi was stronger, but it is free! It's also fun to mingle with so many European travelers...must be on a popular travel site there too.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Did not like the shower. Could not regulate the water temperature.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"It's tired and needs some TLC"
The location was excellent. The rooms were large and clean for their old condition but it definitely needs a good deep cleaning and some major remodeling. We were in Santa Barbara to attend a 2:00 pm Sunday funeral service and had driven down that morning from Northern California. When booking, I explained our situation and asked if we could access […] our room early so that we could clean-up for the memorial service. No commitment was made but they said they would try to honor our request. We called two times on our drive down to repeat our request and explain our need. Ultimately, we were told that no rooms would be available before 3:00 p.m.. I found that very difficult to believe as I am certain the housekeeping staff starts around 10 or 11 and, surely, at least one room would be clean and available not longer after their starting time for a special situation. Bottom line: they were not very helpful. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Really cute place not too far from UCSB"
All in all it was a really good place to stay (2 nights) and I will likely stay again. This must have been really cool back in the 50s & 60s and they they have kept a lot of the charm. My 18 year old daughter described it as a "motel resort" with the 2 pools and meandering sprawl of rooms. For the price it's quite good and you can tell they do really […] try pretty hard keep the place nice. Also, it has plenty of parking and there are restaurants & stores within walking distance. "Excellent budget stay in Santa Barbara"
Great room, great pools and Jacuzzi, well-maintained venue. Enjoyed a lot!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Not a bad place but for the price it could use some work. Towel bar fell off the wall, 2 light bulbs needed replacing, bathroom door stuck making it hard to turn the lock. Also cushions on lounges by the pool need replacing (filthy)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great place to stay on Upper State St. The continental breakfast spread was actually pretty impressive. The rooms are all very clean, nicely decorated, and quiet.Genuine Expedia guest review
"OK hotel with nice pool/hot tub."
Overall our stay was nice. A little overpriced considering the quality of the room. All of the furniture was from IKEA (not a bad thing), but we had a lot of ants in the room. This isnt really the hotels fault, but there were several on the walls in the bathroom. Our room walked out to the pool area which was a great amenity. We were travelling with […] our 7 month old, so it was nice to have a place to go when she was napping. Overall, I would recommend the hotel, but keep your expectations in check with the quality of the actual room. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Worked fine for us"
My wife and I were just getting away for a quick overnights to Santa Barbara. The Sandman Inn served us well. Nothing fancy. Just convenient location & comfortable room. We always bring our own pillows, but the hotel ones were ok. We didn't avail ourselves of the breakfast because we wanted to go somewhere in particular. We had some credit coming to […] us, so we didn't pay full price. I do think the normal price was a little high. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Need a lots of renovation"
We decided to stay at the Sandman Inn based on the other people's ratings, but I feel like we stayed in very different place. This was one of the worst experience we have ever had and we could have stayed at Motel 6 and had better experience. The floor of the room was old carpet and bathroom's tile floor was also very old. There was no bathtub. Shower […] had two faucet (hot and cold) and very difficult to adjust the temperature. My daughter couldn't adjust and she had to have cold shower. So I called the front desk and a service person came and told us that we need to open cold faucet all the way then slowly adjust with hot water. I went in the shower and tried as he said. The temperature of water wasn't stable and water pressure was also non-stable. I ended up to turn off hot water and surprisingly water temperature became perfect.... Bed sheets were clean but all wrinkled. It seems the sheets was just pulled out from the dryer and never bother to be ironed. Pillows are the worst kind and very uncomfortable. Pool was also not clean and there were hairs in the water. We always try to stay non-franchised motel/hotel but this was really unfortunate experience. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Family oriented, noisy, worn or really ridden hard. Staff nice. Breakfast too crowded to get to at several times tried. Parking goodGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed one night and enjoyed our time. Many families and young couples. Hotel is older, so don't expect high end luxury, however grounds and room are very clean and comfortable. Complementary breakfast at Al's dinner on the premisis was fantastic! We traveled with our two teenage kids.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Good hotel for the money. Well located, good access.Genuine Expedia guest review
The room smelled like a combination of wet dog and cheap disinfectant. It was so bad that it clung to my clothes and I had to wash them as soon as I returned home. I could hear mice in the walls and ceiling at night. There was mold around the bottom of the shower.Genuine Expedia guest review
This was my second time staying at Sandman Inn and the quality of my room was the complete opposite of my first, and very positive, stay at Sandman Inn just two months ago. Our refrigerator was not working and very old. There was rust along the inside portion of the door. The freezer portion was melting and there was no way to turn the temperature […] lower. We called the front desk and someone was sent but after looking at it their response was to call again if it continued to drip. It continued to drip during the two hours we were out and so we had to call again before they finally replaced our refrigerator. The walls were dirty-black smudges all over and there were cracks in the paint and wall. The tissue box holder and the towel holder were rusted. The toothbrush packaging was open and there was a brown spot on the handle of the toothbrush. I asked for extra lotion and one of the tubes of lotion was only half full, like someone had used it-there no lotion on the outside of the tube like there would be if it had leaked. I left them a comment via their website but haven't received a response yet. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Close to everything, nice breakfast area and pools"
Close to everything (shopping, restaurants, freeway close by, easy to find), nice breakfast area and pools. Rooms and bathrooms are older and nothing fancy, but makes for an easy stay anyway. Had a room close to the pool, which made it easier to get kids to and from. Breakfast spread was fulfilling and fun (50s style diner) and the staff was nice and […] accomodating. Nothing over the top, but made for an easy stay with the kids in the 90 degree heat (in the pool and in room with A/C made things bearable). And considering it was packed at night, it was pretty quiet. Bed was too squishy though - they need to upgrade to firmer mattresses, but the down comforters were nice and things were clean. "loved the breakfast area"
There's a great little dining room where they serve breakfast, furnished with 50's-style tables and chairs, with a (real?) gas pump from the 50's and posters from that era on the walls. The pool was great too. My only complaint was that we couldn't check in until 3:00 pm.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Pools and Breakfast"
We had a great stay at the Sandman Inn.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"lovely place but with a real need for an update"
The Sandman Inn had the feel of the kind of places I used to stay at on family vacation s as a kid: welcoming, low-key, all-included, and simple. The emphasis isn't on the time you spend in your room but your experiences outside. So I very much appreciated those aspects. Still, we were a bit taken aback by the black mold in our bathroom around the […] sink and in the shower, and the room felt like it needed an overall to bring it back from the early 1990s. "Got a great room and friendly people."
We came in from out of town and were in a hurry because we didn't want to miss a concert at the Santa Barbara Concert Bowl we were running late for. The service people in the front were very mindful of that a quickly helped me with my room and processing. The area is very quaint and clean. The room we stayed in was spacious and had no problem with parking […] near by. I would definitely come back to this hotel, especially for the great rates! Definitely worth it! "Quite pleasant and we'll come again!"
The grounds are very cute and well maintained. Our room was simple but stylish. The pool had an extensive 2 ft section which was great for our kids. Guest were a nice mix of families, singles and couples-not too many partiers, not too many screaming kids. Across the street from Whole Foods, Chick-fil-a and Rusty's PizzaGenuine Expedia guest review
"Fit and functional"
Good location to restaurants and shops. Pool was nice and clean, as well as the hot tub. Bed was extremely soft and seem to be more from age than the type of mattress. Bathroom was cramped but functional.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
When my husband and I first walked into the room we were pleasantly surprised. It had the comforts of home and was decorated nicely. The bathroom was clean and I enjoyed all of the complimentary soaps and lotions. If we ever need to stay somewhere in Santa Barbara again, we will stay there.
