Famous for its hotels, Mayfair holds London's most expensive homes and, on Bond Street, its most expensive shops. But the tucked-away pubs, restaurants, and shops of atmospheric Shepherd Market offer affordable local colour, too. Sandwiched between several main roads, Marylebone has a village atmosphere and a charming High Street. Nearby attractions include Madame Tussaud's and the Georgian splendours of Regent's Park, including London Zoo.

The hotel itself was a fairly standard Marriott-- great, but not outstanding. Nothing extraordinary, but nothing to complain about either. The surrounding neighborhood is so-so and not really close to most tourist sights, but the location is quite close to Paddington Station and is within a block of the Edgeware Road station (there are two of these stations, which is a little confusing at first). Plus, there are several buses that go within blocks of the hotel and provide great sightseeing tours of the city on the way to other destinations (the #15 bus leaving from Paddington to the Tower of London is a great route)

Booked a family room which was large and on the top floor with fantastic views. Incredibly however it was a smoking room so had to change. Preferences are not guaranteed as they rarely are with hotels, but a smoking family room is surely crazy. Check in also never mentioned the smoking so it was a long hike up and then back with the luggage (I could have asked a porter I guess !) Replacement room too small for a family of four but let's face it it's only a place to rest. Buffet breakfast was good, huge choice. Location good as we were using Marylebone Station, and Edgware Road tube only a stone's throw away.

Just a block from the underground station made this hotel in a perfect location for us. Because it's so big, our guided tours picked up here. We did not eat at any of the hotel's restaurants but the prices seeemed competitive. We walked to the Costa and Starbucks for coffee half the price of the one in the hotel. Also, across the street is the M and S market for a quick dinner or breakfast at a reasonable price. Our room was clean and comfortable. Plan on a line at the lobby concierge because this is a huge hotel. We would stay here again for sure!

This hotel is ideal if you want to get out of the hustle and bustle of London but don't want to be too far away. The staff were really helpful from the minute we arrived to the moment we left, very efficient and curteous (which is almost unheard of in London). We stayed in the West Wing of the hotel which was a Queens Deluxe room (really good offer on Hotels.com which was 50% off) for two nights and the room was spacious and very clean. The view wasn't great as there was scaffolding opposite but as we weren't in our room much then there was no problem. The breakfasts are buffet style and you can eat as much as you want, again the staff were really nice and friendly and the food was excellent and set you up for all the sightseeing and walking that you do in London. The sports bar was really good and if you get in for the happy hour period is really cheap for certain drinks (£2.20 for a pint of Becks!). Edgware Road tube station is virtually opposite the hotel and here you can get several lines into London - the Cirle, Bakerloo and the Hammersmith line all stop at Edgware road so it's really handy and are only a few stops away. Madamme Tussaurds is one stop away and Marble Arch and Hyde Park are a 10 minute walk straight down Edgware Road. I would definately return as it's ideal for the location, fantastic value for the price (look for discounts) and a really fantastic hotel with plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants within walking distance.

Excellent location (walking distance from Paddington Station, Hyde Park and Oxford Street) but a massive hotel so if you are looking for peace and quiet, this hotel is not for you. Our room (Queen delux plus) was clean and spacious, but quite worn and in a need of a facelift. Especially the beds were sub-standard for a Hilton; the springs were hard and squeeky. The complimentary toiletries were lovely but the hairdryer in the room was quite useless, and the mirror in the room was so high that you couldn't even dream of using it sitting down. The breakfast was fabulous and the choice of foods extensive. The 2nd morning we had to have our breakfast in the Kings Suite (one of the banquetting rooms) because the main restaurant was full; hot foods were bit disappointing there as they were more lukewarm than hot. Dinner in the main restaurant and the food in the Asian restaurant up on the 23rd floor were excellent - not to mention the panoramic view from the 23rd floor! For some reason the housekeeping kept knocking on our door on the morning of the departure although there was still a couple of hours to go before the check-out time - not something you'd expect in a Hilton! But all in all we enjoyed our stay and although the bedroom was not quite up to the standard you'd expect from a Hilton, the other services compensated to it and the hotel was reasonably good value for money.

We chose this hotel as we had to pass through London on our way home after a long plane flight, and we wanted somewhere to recover. We were therefore disappointed to be told there were only smoking rooms available (we had booked the room six weeks beforehand to ensure we had a smoke-free room). After some discussion we were offered a non smoking room, but we had to pay extra as it was a better room than the one we booked. The hotel was very busy as there was a conference on - the public areas were crowded. The bedroom, while very spacious, was quite basic - furniture and carpets were old and shabby, taps needed repaired, no hairdryer. The windows were not ones that opened, so we had to depend on the air conditioning for fresh air which was not very comfortable. Plus points were the fairly large swimming pool, which was quiet after breakfast so we had a nice swim, the excellent cooked buffet breakfast, the late check-out time of 12 noon, and the proximity to Paddington station and Edgware Road tube. Most of the staff were very helpful too. Overall though, we would have expected more for the price we paid.

Even though we have booked the double non-smokers room, we were given the twin smoking room (different price on the website). So we have complained then the reception girl put us into the original requested room for the 2nd night. After we went back a few times, they gave us the upgrade room on the higher floor. Which was good. But they should had given this to us from the beggining as we had to put up with the very bad condition small room that we havent originally booked from the begening. We also asked some infomation at the desk, they gave us wrong information (Where is the closest stop etc). Also when we leave the bag, even though there was a long queue, the girl start taking the baggage from the very end of the queue. Even worse, when we get back to pick the bags up, the man told us there are no numbers on the card and there are 400 bags and impossible to find our bag. We found no communication between staff all together and they might need to get the proper training done at least. To have breakfast was very crowded and had to queue as well. I dont know what is their system but there are a few free seats anyway, I hope they can find the better way to sort this problem out for the future guests.

The price of the coffee in the lobby is over double the outside location. The eating places in the hotel, are very pricey. We ate there when it was covered by our tour. We actually stayed there twice on this trip. The first room was on the 11th floor, and was very small. You had to climb over a corner of the bed to access another part of the room. We had booked for 2 nigthts. Upon arrival we were told that the non-smoking room we had booked was not available and we would be upgraded to Deluxe Room but it is a "smoking room". We declined so the receptionist said that it had "just been refurbished and there should be no smell of smoke". We were tired from travelling and in need of rest but we should have complained and asked for a different room because the room was not free from smells and the corridor had that lingering whiff of cigarette smoke which will be familiar to all non-smokers. We were also very surprised at the size of the room as it was very compact and much smaller than any other room I had stayed in across the whole country including London. This was a surprise as I had stayed at the Metropole as a business traveller previously and the room was quite spacious. If I decide to stay at this hotel again I will be making sure that the room is "non-smoking" and of a reasonable size where one is able to "swing a cat". Overall we were disspapointed with the hotel due to the poor quality room - which was supposed to be Deluxe. We felt a little bit conned. That said the staff were pleasant and the ground floor area with coffee bar, bars and restaurant is nice enough. Location is okay and within walking distance of Oxford Street on a dry day. May be a bit far if carrying bags and yu're not too fit. There is a tube nearby or there are always taxis outside the main entrance.

We ordered a fridge for personal use and it hadn't been cleaned. It was disgusting but we received no apology and the problem took 3 phonecalls and 2 hours to sort out. The ice machine on our floor was broken but nobody seemed to care. Everything we ordered to our room took more than one phoncall and a 1-2 hour wait. The room itself was lovely, no problems there (apart from staring at a brick wall but you have to pay more for any kind of view). The hotel itself is ok. My mother has a phobia of lifts and they didn't have stairs so she had to walk up the dingy fire escape stairs which wasn't very nice. The pool is way too small for a hotel with such capacity. There just wasn't room to swim due to the number of people there at most times of the day. It is in a good location though with Paddington station 5-10 minutes walk away and lots of nearby shops.
