"LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
This little hotel has location, location, location! It is less than 5-10 minutes walking distance to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, & Tempolo Adriano. It is about 15-20 minutes from the Coliseum, the Forum, and Vittoria Emmanuelle, around 25-30 minutes from Piazza del Popolo, and a half hour from the Vatican. Seconds away from the main artery Via Del Corso, you can’t get a better location for a more reasonable price. The front desk staff is wonderful and Tomosso in particular will not hesitate to recommend the best restaurants and tell you how to get to all the sites within Rome. He recommended fabulous restaurants and mapped out a walkable itinerary of sites daily for us. If you don’t care to walk, the hop on hop off bus is two minutes away. What really sets this hotel apart is the 5th floor outside deck with a panoramic view which is used for breakfast in the morning and a possible night cap at night. What a way to start and end a day. It was beyond gorgeous and really a delightful highlight to a memorable stay in Rome. The rooms are big enough to accommodate two easily and are clean and neat. The only difficulty I encountered was that I was unable to connect to Wi-Fi but instead used the downstairs computer. Some of the rooms on the upper floors are only accessible by a short stairway which is difficult with heavy luggage. Other than that, our stay was perfect and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Excellent, convenience to airport was essential.

We did not get information that payment by card was not accepted. The breakfast was poor, bread from yesterday, cerials too sweet. The juice was more like lemonade than fruit-juice.
"Would stay there again"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Had a great experience. Our triple room was clean and bed very comfortable, including pillows. 40 inch hd tv with all the sky channels with the options to switch to English language. Filled a form with time and choices for breakfast . Arrived on time and plenty of food. ( Italian style breakfast) . Front desk nice and helpful. Near American embassy, hard rock cafe' , villa borghese park( very nice!) . Would stay there again and reccomand it to friends and family

Room was so small that we could barely walk around the bed and there were no drawers in which to put clothes. The buffet breakfast, however, was outstanding and the location very convenient. Front desk staff could be friendlier. The room was much smaller than the photo for that level of accommodation

Rome’s central train station, Termini is the entry point to the city from Fiumicino Airport, and is an impressive modern architectural sight. Between here and glamorous Via Veneto, there are several interesting places to visit. The Palazzo Barberini is a superb baroque palace, the Terme di Diocleziano was the city’s largest bath complex and the Church of Santa Maria della Concezione is remarkable for its Capuchin monks’ crypt.
see all hotels in Rome"Bad Neighborhood"
The area is pretty scary. I wouldn't walk around the area after 8;00pm.
"Dangerous neighborhood !"
Be alerted this is a BAD neighborhood. I was attacked arou d the corner of the hotel, near the subway station and had my crucifix ripped from around my neck. In chatting with another guest we were told they had a case containing $3,000 I camera gear stolen right out of the lobby as they were checking in.
"Good hotel if you want American style comforts"
This hotel was very nice, still had hard beds (almost all beds in Italy seemed this way), and they had a great breakfast. It felt very stuffy though, and most of the people staying there were older and the atmosphere was geared more towards this. The area of town was a convenient location, but we had to walk through a not so nice area to get there from […] the Termini station. Overall, it was good if you want to feel like you're in America and have a very quiet and "upper-class" kind of experience. This was not what we were looking for, so we were glad that we were only here for 1 night. Read more
"Rome Best Western"
Not bad for the price. I was able to walk to most of the sites with no problem. Very close to the train station. Room was a little smaller then I am used to and it was not a five start hotel, but for the price pretty good.

"B.W. Ambra Palace -- fine hotel, great staff"
The hotel was a gem. Clean, well appointed rooms. A very nice area for breakfast and a bar that also served a lite menu from noon until midnight. The front desk staff was outstanding. Very friendly, professional, knowledgeable and helpful. The hotel is convenient for transportation purposes as it is but a short walk to the central train station and […] just a block walk to a metro stop. The only downside is that it is a bit off the beaten path as contrasted with the more exciting and active areas of Rome. There is no "street scene" in the immediate area as one will find in other (but far more expensive) parts of central Rome. Quality sidewalk cafes are about a five block walk. Read more
"Ambra Palace Rome"
Hotel is ok but the neighborhood is rather frightening late night on foot (or public transportation) returns not advisable
"Great Hotel"
The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating to our needs. Best places to eat, best way to get around Rome, etc. The room was very nice and clean and was very spacious considering most European hotel rooms are on the smaller side. At the main train station find a newspaper stand, they sell Metro A and B passes only 4 Euros for a day pass. So […] worth the money. Also down the street from the hotel is a place called Pepe's it is tucked into a small corner but is amazing food! Read more
"Perfect Location"
Walking distance from Leonardo Airport Express train. Subway station around the corner. Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms not very special but clean.
"Best Western- not the best neighborhood"
Convenient to the train and the subway, but not close to any of the sights- and the neighborhood leaves a lot to be desired. If you stay just a few hundred meters north you will still be close to the station, but in a better area with more to do.
"Great hotel"
The room was what we expected based on the pictures from the website. The bed was comfortable, bathroom was spacious, the shower was a little small but big for Europe. Overall it was a great experience with a great breakfast. Very close to the subway which made sightseeing easy, liquor stores within walking distance. Bar and room service were great, […] we recommend the Fantasy Pizza, its amazing!! The only downfall was the surrounding neighborhood, on one night there was pretty much a riot, but other than that it was a quiet comfortable stay! Read more

"Beautiful room"
We were upgraded to a superiour room, it was brilliant, very roomy and very well fitted out. Superbly comfortable, I wish out whole trip through Italy had rooms like this.
"Not impressed"
We picked this hotel because we thought the location would be easy for leaving the next day. The location was near enough to the main train terminal but overall it was in a not so nice neighborhood. There were other hotels closer to the train station which were in nicer area. Hotel staff was pleasant enough. Room size was nice, clean only problem was […] shower doors were falling apart. Internet was included but was not wireless. Beds were hard which seems to be very common in Europe. Did not get to enjoy breakfast due to early departure. Also only English channels were news channels. Read more
"Every thing we needed"
We went in with lower expectations and were very pleasantly surprised. The Hotel is right by the train station which is also by the subways. Very easy to find. The room was comfortable and the bathroom adequate. The shower was very small but plenty of hot water. The breakfast was really quite good and the staff were all friendly and helpful. The neighborhood […] is a little shady looking but we never felt intimidated by it. There were some little stores around the corner with the best price for Diet Coke we found. We were there for 7 days and enjoyed our stay very much. An excellent value for the price! Read more
"Close to Roma Termini"
Lovely room, very clean and comfortable. Very convenient to Roma Termini train station (easy walk) and also the Metro. It's located in an Indian section of Rome, so if you like Indian food, it would be an added plus. It is out of the heavily tourist-infested areas which to me is a plus, yet with the Metro so close by you can quickly get to the site […] s. Read more
"An average hotel"
Location is near to the Rome Central Station which is convenient. But the neighborhood is outright filthy.
"Supportive staff"
The room was fine - a decent deal for what we paid - although the flow of water in the shower went alternately hot and cold. What made the place a good deal was the breakfast service, the knowledgeable and helpful staff at the reception desk (good tips on a nearby restaurant) and the reasonable comfort and cleanliness of the room. The area right next […] to the Termini train station is packed with hotels and this one was a bit farther and included a three-block stroll through a seemingly dicier area than the area right next to the station. However, being close to Termini is an advantage, because it is the intersection of the two metro lines and has a 6 euro comfortable bus to the Ciampino airport that takes you through a lot of Rome at the same time. The breakfast buffet was very good. It was packed one morning and we had to wait two minutes for a table, but the staff was very nice about it and it was no problem. Read more

"Great Hotel"
Our only disappointment was the neighborhood surrounding the hotel. It's definitely a rose among thorns! But it was very close to the Metro and just a few blocks from the Train Station and a great deal on a great hotel. Breakfast was outstanding, the rooms were terrific, and the staff was great.
"Best Western Ambra Palace"
Spent a weekend i Rome and styed at this fantastic hotel. When we arrived at the hotel we were welcomed by the staff, who was very polite, friendly and serviceminded, for example; they carried our bags up to the room and showed us around the facilities. The room was very nice, clean and had all you could ask for as a tourist. Breakfast was very good […] too, lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, delicious bread and so on. The staff was very helpful with everything we could ask for, even helped us with our sightseeing and gave us maps and suggestions on were to go. The hotel was located very close to the trainstation which was perfect. Also restaurants with good food and even better prices nearby. Walking distance to all the sightseeing like Colosseum, the Vatican, Fontana di Trevi, Campo de Fiori and so on. We will definately come back to this fantastic hotel! Read more

"Amber Palace, was only 15 min walk to Colosseum"
We found the Amber Palace hotel was very convenient to walk into the city only 15 mins walk to the Colosseum, 5 mins from train station and Metro. the Hotel staff were very very pleasent and very helpful, the room was very comfortable and the Breakfast had an excellent choice
"Only 10 mins to Termini station"
Over all hotel service is good. Only 10 mins to Termini station and few mins to metro station. There are many Indian stores and restaurent....
"Very nice Hotel"
Pretty good. Room is clean and staffs are kind, Morning buffet is so good. Location is good but room i small. Generally it is a nice hotel,

"okay hotel"
The hotel is located very good though I was there for only two nights and they had no hot water in the shower :( But nice people working there otherwise..
"Hotel Ambra Palace"
Excellent service...great for sightseeing - only a short walk to the metro. The room was very good......one slight criticism - the bath area had some areas of black mould and would benefit from some bleach type cleaner. Other than that a very good, comfortable hotel, staff really knowledgable and helpful.
"Great location great food and coffee"
Very nice hotel the only down thing was the Internet connection that was very slow... Great place to stay in Rome!!!
"Stay in Rome"
The hotel was very good and the staff are very friendly. The location is ideal and very close to train station and Metro is right behind the hotel. Lot of people complained they were not so comfortable about the location as people were standing on the streets but most of the people are friendly and not dangerous. It is weird to see people standing […] on the streets but didn't feel like unsecured. Read more

"Best Western Ambra Palace"
would not consider this hotel as value for money, especially for 4 star grade
"great stay"
breakfast was terrific! Easy to walk to key areas of interest, hotel staff very helpful... a great experience.
"never again"
this is the first review that i have written, i am writing it to warning you not to stay here. Service is OK, there is No restaurant. In terms of he neighbourhood, you don't want to be walking around in the dark, trust me. Over priced, i paid alot of money for 5 nights. and the room was small, noisy, and had a hard bed. Oh they do have a bar with […] light snacks, but the same person who runs the bar also makes you food. so it can take up to 15 minutes just for a drink. breakfast in the morning is ok apart from the stale bread Read more
"Best Western Ambra Hotel, Rome"
The hotel is reasonably good in general. Good breakfast! The double room is a bit tight for staying longer than a couple of days. Curtain is not covering the whole balcony door. Noisy with traffic passing through. Street lights need improving, dark especially in rainy days. Convenient to get around using the metro.
"The Ambra Palace - Clean rooms & good service"
We had a four night stay at this hotel in early October. Whilst the hotel has the basic facilities available, it was more than addequate for our requirements. The staff were very helpful and provided us with lots of sighseeing advice on Rome. Luigi on front desk was especially helpful and accommodating, even helping us with finding an additional nights […] accommodation when we had a hiccup in our travel arrangements after checking out. The room was clean and whilst not a large room, it was a good size. The buffet breakfast was well stocked but I guess if you like a hot breakfast there is not much choice - however, again, more than adequate for what our needs were. It was a short walk to the Termini Centri, which was handy for catching the hop-on hop-off bus or any train travel you may have. This may not be the flashiest hotel with all the "bells and whistles"but it is a good, clean standard hotel. We would stay here again when we return to Rome. Read more
"Sept visit"
Overall the hotel was really good, and we were happy. It was clean, everything worked fine except the shower - that needed fixing. The neighborhood was a little odd -- lots of Indian and other ethnic (non-Italian) shops which made the neighborhood feel less nice. Also, the market across the street meant deliveries began very early, so street noise woke […] us the days it was open. Those were the only detractors, and not bad enough to keep us from staying there again in the future. Read more
"Convenient location though not much around"
A nice hotel with free wifi in the lobby area and also a cabled connection in the rooms. A very good offering of an American buffet breakfast and waiters will take your plates as well. Location is excellent with the Roma Termini station a few blocks away - great to get to off the Leonardo Express from the airport FCO. The area is very Asian and not […] very reminisicent of Italy alas but there is a great Italian nearby and a reasonable ice cream place - oldest in Italy they claim and a lot cheaper than the overpriced stuff at the Vatican! Room is comfortable with a good sized bathroom. TV is mostly Italian language, only English are BBC World/CNN - only news therefore! Get the hop on hop off tickets from Roma Termini (a store will sell at discount) as well - and it's a good place to start your tourist trip from Termini too. Read more

Read more
Hotellet ligger tæt ved metro. Der er en fin atmosfære og god service. Ligeledes gåafstand til Termine togstation. Det var anden gang på dette hotel , og nok ikke sidste gang.
"Hyggelig besøk i Roma"
E+S, Sarpsborg, Norge
"Best Western Ambra Palace Rom - superservice"
Traditionelt indrettet hotel i den bedre ende. Meget stort bad og stort værelse. Fantastisk velholdt og rengjort overalt. Godt varieret morgenbord. Meget serviceminded personale overalt. Besøg det fantastiske fødevaremarked i hallerne skråt overfor hotellet.
Teppich sehr stark verschmutzt
