"Nice renovations!"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 1, 2012
I was there on business and I was literally in the hotel for about 2 hrs total! My mom and daughter were there much more than I was...but the room was clean and beds pretty comfy! We were in the new side and it was very nice!
"A lot to like about this hotel"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Apr 24, 2012
After viewing all the other reviews, I selected this hotel. What a pleasant surprise. Restaurant for dinner is pricey but worth it. The breakfast (by voucher) is way above what you would normally see on a breakfast buffet. Will definitely stay at Best Western Plus again. White Spot Restaurant across the street is upscale and food is wonderful.
"close to airport"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Apr 22, 2012

"Fairmont MacDonald - Edmonton"
This was our second visit in the last month, and we were given a room upgrade - complimentary. The room was beautiful, and the service is fantastic. Unfortunately there was a young lady's 18th birthday party just above us, so they got a bit noisy around 3 in the morning. We called the front desk and it was taken care of immediately. The apologies upon […] our check out were very professional, and we were told that due to the inconvenience, upon our next stay, we will be upgraded again for our room. Excellent hotel. Read more
"What a beautiful experience!!!!"
One of the nicest hotels we have stayed in.Well kept, gorgious suroundings, staff was polite, curtious, dining was delicious. We felt like a queen and king. Thank you!
"ONE OF THE BEST"
GREAT HOTEL, TERRIFIC CITY, FANTASTIC LOCATION. nOTHING TO NOT LIKE.
"Classic Fairmont/CP"
Outrageous; this is the quintessential old Canadian Pacific hotel — elegant, classy. Probably the best bell staff we've ever encountered at any hotel.

beautiful hotel, and superb staff!
"Edmonton Fairmont Hotel"
We spent 3 days in the hotel. Food was exelent in the restaurant also at the special event. Hotel staff very friendly ready to help you. One thing we had problem with we did not have free internet service. In the hotel this nice they sould have free internet even for the people who is not a member. But over all we recomend the hotel to any one who is […] visiting Edmonton Canada Read more
"Fairmont - Mc Donald"
Wow! It is not only beautiful outside, but inside as well. The view was the best in Edmonton! We included the daily breakfast - choice of menu or buffet - it was good as well. We were also pleasantly surprized as to how many countries were represented in the staff! Everyone very polite and accomodating!
The Hotel is beautiful and the rooms are nice...not as nice as I thought they would be, but comfortable. I thought the rooms needed some updating but it was ok. We got an excellent rate on the room but the Hotel seems to charge for all the little stuff...good thing we got a deal.
"A Fine Hotel with Lots of Class"
If you'd like to stay in a grand old railway hotel, one with history and class, this is the place. It's story goes back to the early days of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railroad, before it became the CNR. This place is breathing with early Edmonton history dating from nearly 100 years ago. But it has been restored and updated with modern comforts so it […] is not at all out-of-date. The old decorative features have been preserved. A guided tour, which we took, helps one to appreciate the colourful story of the old days. I am glad they did not demolish this place as had been planned at one time. We need to preserve some of our historic buildings, as they do in Europe. Read more

"Outstanding Service"
We were late for their breakfast buffet but they kept it open and available for us. The host definitely went out of her way. We also wanted to go out to the gardens but it was drizzling. Again, the same restaurant host went out of her way and found umbrellas for us to use. There was only one instance of bad service. No one at the entrance of the hotel […] offered to help my daughter with her suitcase. She carried it up the stairs herself while several employees were just standing by. Read more
"Construction Central"
Edmonton was doing road work on the neighboring street to the hotel, so it was loud during the day when construction was on going. Also toilets were very loud and plumbing was loud through the walls.
Beautiful, old hotel! Location was excellent! Staff was friendly and accomodating! Food was excellent! Was dissappointed that management didn't acknowledge our 35th Ann. For the price we paid, I thought they would at least give us a bottle of wine or a rose.
"comfortable"
I am never comfortable in hotel rooms until I stayed at the Fairmont, extras are veeeeerrry expensive, but worth it with the service.
"Fantastic!"
Was absolutely incredible, flew my girlfriend to Edmonton for a surprise romantic weekend and the hotel sure helped make it that much more special. Incredible service, luxurious room, pool & spa were spectacular. Would stay again in a second without any hesitation!

"Happy with the Fairmont Edmonton"
When we arrived at the hotel we wanted to self-park, which involved a trek through a construction site with our bags to get to the hotel from the parking gararge, which wasn't a great start to our stay. Then we were given a room that was dirty, but the hotel staff were very nice, gave us a new room and even upgraded our room for free. The room was very […] nice (with a nice tv that my husband was happy about), but it wasn't the cleanest hotel room we've stayed in (my 2 year old found some old food he wanted to eat), and the room was on the cold side, even with the heat up. The location is good if you have a car as it is easy to get to, but if you are only walking there are still some shady areas along this end of Jasper avenue, although it has improved a lot over the last couple of years. "MacDonald Hotel Edmonton"
The dining room had been closed for some months because it had suffered from snow damage over the winter (we visited in late August). The food offered in the bar was not of a high standard and was very expensive.
"Good Hotel"
A very classy hotel. A great location downtown Edmonton. Close to the LRT, the Art Gallery. The complementary bottle of water for $6.50 was a bit much, and there aren't any restaurants for a quick late night bite in the area. The service was very good but it has to be for the price.

"extra costs"
The hotel was great over all. How ever, for the price you pay for the room, one would think it would include a lot more. I found i was quite surprised about how much they seemed to nicle and dime you on all the extras. E.i. Internet access, parking, and even local phone calls.

"Overall good experience"
At the time of our stay at Hotel Macdonald, the hotel was dealing with damage from snow and ice from the winter. This resulted in the closure of most of their restaurants, their self-parking, their health centre and pool. This was the biggest inconvenience of our stay as it required us to find alternate arrangements for dining several times. Other than […] that, the cleanliness of the room was never an issue and the service was good. Read more

"Great Hotel with a couple of issues"
Our overall impression was excellent. We had a wonderful brunch on Sunday morning, the room was nice but needing a facelift (especially the 1950's tub) and the service was terrific. We are very unimpressed with the price of parking at the hotel. There is no hotel parking. There is a parkade that you have to park in but not attached to the hotel. Perhaps […] it was just because we were in downtown Edmonton but we thought that we were charged an enormous amount. The location is great - close to the Winspear and all the other downtown restaurants etc. Overall the stay was great and relaxing with the exception of parking. Read more
"Hotel Macdonald"
We were very happy with the hotel. We had a basic room with a city view but had access to all amenities the hotel has to offer. It's a great location with a great history. My only criticism is that parking is not included and is expensive, along with the in room food and room service. I guess they figure most people who stay in a hotel have an unlimited […] budget, so in this case I wouldn't recommend the hotel for families. Room was drafty but it's an old hotel with lots of character, so to be expected. Read more
"Great trip but a little pricy"
Now, before I say anything. I don't often stay in "higher class" hotels. However I booked this for my lady's birthday and for the price (we got a deluxe room) we did not get a whole lot. The room was not that big, however the worst part is that the internet was not free. I recommend it if you want to make your girlfriend or wife feel special. But don't […] expect them to bend over backwards for you without extra cash. Read more

Easy check in, valet parking a great asset when the temperature was -35! Rooms spacious and well equipped. Wait staff very efficient and food was excellent. I love these hotels as you are treated well and anything you need is catered for.

Read more

"Hochklassiges Hotel"
Read more
