This might be the nicest hotel based right on the ocean at Ocean Beach. The staff was very helpful, the room immaculate, and the location second to none. I've stayed at a number of hotels in the area, but I won't stay anywhere but here in the future. You can't go wrong with an ocean front suite!

Was hesitant at first but went ahead and booked here. Glad I did! The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable about the surrounding area. Beds were okay and room was clean. Will plan on staying here again.

"Close to Wild Animal Park"
Beds were not very comfortable and breakfast was not so great. Front desk was not very helpful when asking about what we could do around the area. She just directed me to the pamplets and thats all.

"Not a value for quality of room"
I stayed at much nicer hotels where the rooms are bigger, the beds are bigger, the surroundings are more pleasing AND they are cheaper. I think the rate at this hotel for a room with two small double beds only is completely outrageous. I won't stay there again--unless, of course the price is at least in the 2 digit range
"Except for the norovirus, it was fine"
Not sure where I picked up the norovirus, but it was somewhere on this trip to northern San Diego County. Filthy people who don't wash their hands after going to the john are the likely culprits...

My family like the hotel a lot. It's a very convenient location where it's in the center of everything. I have recommended a few friends to stay whenever they take their family to Safari Park.

"A place to stay as necessary"
Stayed here because my son's soccer team was playing in a tournament nearby. Rooms were well kept up and clean. Nice lobby. Pool was basically in the parking lot, but the kids didn't mind. Skip the breakfast - it hardly resembles food.

This is a great little motel for a quick business stopover, or as a base for exploring north San Diego County. Right off the north-south15 Fwy. and just one exit from the terminus of the 78 freeway to the coast, and on the main street into old downtown Escondido with its tree-lined Grand Ave. and sidewalk cafes. Walking distance to several restaurants […] and shopping right across the street. Very clean, well appointed, comfortable rooms with a nice cheery breakfast room. No more than 30 minutes from Temecula wine country, 5 casinos, Wild Animal Park, Lego Land, Sea World, San Diego Zoo, the coast and miles and miles of beaches, and surrounded by scores of golf courses. "Quiet, clean, comfortable"
I had a lovely stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Escondido, California. All of the staff were very gracious and helpful, the hotel was welcoming and nicely decorated, hallways were well-lit, room was clean and very nicely appointed. Bathroom was spacious, fixtures were new, new tile and very clean. I enjoyed the fitness center which had 3 different […] cardio options and a tv to keep me distracted and was open 24 hours! The included breakfast was very nice - lots of options including hot entrees. I can't think of one negative thing (and I'm picky) - my stay was lovely - very convenient to the home of family I was visiting as well as close to restaurants, shopping and most importantly, Starbucks! "Convenient"
The location was very convenient - accessible to the 78 and 15 freeways. Many amenities in the surrounding area. The room was generally comfortable, but could use a little fine tuning.

However, it was hard to find. I had to call the hotel and get directions. Once I knew it was behind Coco's I knew how to get there. I thought the hotel was good value.

Walking distance to eating places is a plus. No refrigeration in room is a minus.

People were friendly, hotel was located in an area where you could walk to dinner. Fitness center was nice. The Wi-Fi was difficult to get connected to, but it would work. Breakfast was good, the pool and jacuzzi were nice. Everything was clean/nice. We'd stay here again.

Upon arriving back to our room, the room was not all cleaned and coffee pot was still full of morning coffee. It was not cleaned exept for the beds being made. Also, I left the towels on the floor to be exchanged for clean ones and we got the same towels that I had left on the floor. Good, comfortable hotel. My wife liked it and even said she would stay there again. I would say the quality of the hotel is slightly better than what you pay for and the service was excellent. We were in the 2 rooms suite and it was perfect for our family of 3. The kitcehette was nice, and everything was clean. The room was much nicer than you would expect given how run down the hallways were, they looked cheap and old, very narrow. The elevator was a bit scary it bounced the whole way up and down. "Hotel close to family residence"
No air in hallway temp. was 86 degrees. No air return in room which caused high humidity and no air circulation. Would have relocated to another hotel if not for no refund policy. Could not open windows do to paint build up. Ceilings had been repaired do to obvious roof leaks. Elevator shook and vibrated when in motion. "Good Room, Not so good food"
Fairly clean and comfortable room for the price. The "buffet" breakfast was terrible. There were a few choices and the taste of food wasn't all that great. Our breakfast was free and we ate elsewhere. Close to animal park.

I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Escondido while on an impromptu business trip. I am a TV news producer and was sent to San Diego to cover a story. So, I had no time to research or book a hotel room. I went to Kinko's to log onto hotels.com and one of the associates told me she had heard the hotel was nice. So, I checked out the reviews on hotels.com […] and tripadvisor.com and booked a room. My brief stay was very satisfactory. The price was right, the front desk clerk was very gracious, the room was spotless, and the king-size bed was very comfortable. There is free WiFi offered in the rooms. But for some reason my work laptop could not get the signal. So, I used the guest computer in the lobby. My only comment would be maybe this computer could be relocated to a separate room like a "business center" to allow for more privacy. I also noticed a very nice workout room. I did not have time to use it, but I saw two newer-looking treadmills and a TV set among other amenities. The hotel also has a pool. Read more

The room was really small, there was no refrigerator or microwave. The wireless internet was very spotty, if you were able to get logged in - you would be booted off within a few minutes, which was very irratating. The pool, weight room, area, etc was nice.

Very convenient to shopping area. Restaurants and fast food nearby. The room we stayed in was extremely small would not stay in that room again. It had two double beds and not much room for anything else. There were three of use in the room two adults and a ten year old. They offered a standard continental breakfast. The online discription of the hotel doesn't meet your expectations. Room was very small with very few amenities. Air conditioning unit did not keep it cool, even on high setting. Some, not all, of the front desk personnel were rude when asked questions. Washers and dryers required quarters to operate but there weren't any change machines in the building […] and the front desk doesn't provide quarters. Read more
The room was nice for the price, but should be better after the refirbishing is done to the rooms and the roadwork and construction down the street is finished. The breakfast was very good and really added to the value of the room. All in all, it was a comfortable room for the price.

"Liked the Room but a little small"
Overall I would definately recommend this hotel to others! The only complaint I would have is that the room was a little small so if you are looking for a hotel that you will be spending a lot of time in with a family this may not be it! For us, we were just there at night to sleep so it was perfect and the fact that it included a delicious hot breakfast […] made it even better! We got a really good rate so we didnt mind making the 30 minute drive to Sea World and the zoo ! Read more

This is a pleasant enough stay, with an appealing lobby, but some peculiarities: in the space of a one-night stay, my card-key had to be rplaced 4 times, one bedside lamp didn't work, and the headboard was not fully anchored to the wall. Aside from that it was the typical HIE experience (which I find comfort in.) Management was pleasant.

We resserved three rooms, which we requested be in somewhat the same area. They weren't! The air conditioning in our room didn't work! We were moved to a new room. The luggage cart we were using to move did not fit on the elevator. The wall lamps by the bed in the second room had a malfunctioning switch and had to be pushed many times to get them to […] work. The TV stand was such that when the doors were open and the TV turned on, it stuck out over the end of one of the bed. The shower head was significantly corroded. One positive - excellent breakfast! "Good for traveler basics"
Nothing fancy, as expected...just a clean and well-maintained facility that is super convenient to local shops and restaurants. A good value for those passing through on travels.

even if it has been upgraded ,still needs more work .the electronic lock didnt work very well on our door,had to insert it many times before it unlocked.breakfast was ok but only just. just as the title says you get what you pay for ,luckly i was only there for a concert at the rincon so it ws omk for that reason only
