"Great location but hotel is falling apart"
The only good thing about this place is its ocean front location. I believe this is the only hotel option on isle of palms and they take advantage of it. The rooms are tiny and very dated. For room prices of $300-400 a night there's no excuse for them not reinvesting in their property to keep it up to date. From what we could tell the rooms were at […] least fairly clean and service experience was fine. I would equate the quality of this hotel to a small $60 a night hotel. "Good for family beach vacay, non romantic getaway"
Great location on the beach. That is what sells it. Room is average motel room. staff was personable and helpful. Small bathroom, nice to have fridge and microwave. Although the bar was next to it, stopped playing music at 10. Not a problem.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very nice location for a weekend trip to the beach"
The hotel is very nicely located directly at the beach and near restaurants and bars. Rooms are basic but clean and well maintainedGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Before arrival we got lost getting there. i called the hotel to see about getting directions and the clerk said she was not from there and could not give me directions. She was not nice about it. When we finally arrivied the room I thought I had booked was not the correct room and of course I had to pay more money to get it upgrqaded. She was not nice […] about it either. There were parts of the room that needed to be checked like the baseboards were coming off. We had a child and the area was not kid friendly. I do not think we will book here again. I went down for a girls weekend. We had a great time. The beds were comfortable, the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was good. The only negative I would say was the toilet had some issue flushing but that was no big deal. I would stay there again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very nice stay"
This was a great home base for my 3 day trip with my son. It was great to walk out to the ocean, parking was reasonable, there were restaurants in walking distance and it was simple to get into Charleston and Mt. Pleasant from this hotel. We had a first floor interior room which was fine, good size and clean, with a fridge and microwave. My only complaint […] is that is got kind of damp and musty, even with the air on all the time. Whether from bad shower ventilation or from the day of rain we had while there, I can't say, but everything took on a kind of dank feeling, clothes, papers, everything. My son's only complaint was that the pool was cold this time of year. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Worst experience ever!"
while the room was decent, but smelly, we were so tired we immediately got ready and went to bed. At 2am we were woken by loud banging and yelling of other occupants. All the rooms face one another in a long tiled corridor that echoes and exasperates any noise. The only window in the dungeon of a room faces the inside of this loud corridor so no natural […] light can enter the room. After 4 phone calls to the very unhelpful front desk clerk, we finally called and had to request to switch rooms at 3:30 am. We packed our bags and went to the from desk where the clerk was extremely unhelpful, especially for the terrible position we were put in in the middle of the night. We were polite and not blaming him, but his attitude left something to be desired. He switched us to the same room a floor above, same location in the loud tiled corridors, only the stench in this room was like nothing I would wish on anyone. By this time it was 4am and we had to get up in only 3 hours (I would have much rather slept in our clean and smell free car) so we did our best to get some sleep. There was no fitted sheet on the bed, only the plastic dust mite cover to protect the mattress so sleeping was made worse. I didn't notice till the morning that a portion of the bathroom door was cut away, looked like it had been crudely done and for what reason I don't know. This was the worse experience we ever had and nothing has been done by the hotel to try and mitigate our horrendous night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great spot but too loud!"
The beach front location is great except it's next door to a rooftop lounge. I couldn't even hear the movie I was trying to watch on my laptop because the music from the live Reggae band was so loud. Tough trying to fall asleep as well. I was worried my room would be dirty after reading all the comments on this site but I was pleasantly surprised. It's […] an old hotel (the elevator moves like a snail and the underground garage was unusable due to renovation so I had to park in a lot a block away) but the room was very clean. This would be a great place for folks on spring break who are in the mood to party and stay up late but I had to go to a meeting the next morning! I would stay again if it wasn't so loud. I don't think it's over priced for a beach front hotel on a beautiful little island but it's impossible to go to sleep until the band stops playing! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great location, not so great room"
The location of the Palms Hotel is in the heart of Isle of Palms and is beach front. That is about the only good thing I can say about the Hotel. The worst part of the room was the humidity. Despite being mid-April and not so humid outside, everything in the room was wet to the touch and never dried out. After the first day, all of my clothes felt like […] I just got back from the gym. The AC worked fine, but we couldn't really go below 74 at night since this hotel does not provide blankets or comforters on the bed. You only get three top sheets. The mattress was good. In the bathroom, the showers curtain rod, one of the bowed out types, was falling down. This caused the curtain to always reamian open. The water pressure was good, but the rest of the bathroom was pretty dingy, and the lights would only turn on 1/5 times of hitting the switch. The service was friendly, but room service didn't change our sheets one day. I guess they thought since we made the bed, we didn't want new sheets? All in all I can't recommend the Palms Hotel. However, I am not sure there are any better choices on this island. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ok staff was great"
There was no place to park at hotel, we had to park across the street. I understand the breakfast was free. Hotel had a lot of noise. The best part about Hotel was that the staff was very nice.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good beach side hotel"
The hotel was a typical beach side hotel. The carpet had a few stains. The bed was comfortable, but did not have blankets (it was cold the days we were there). However, the staff was very helpful in getting blankets for the beds. The free breakfast was pretty good with more variety than I expected.Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel was very nice, right by the ocean, liked the room, very clean, the only thing it was cold , could not enjoy the ocean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Its ok - ideal for short stays"
The hotel was no big deal. Small and cozy, needs some maintenance, rooms are comfortable. Staff could have been friendlier. Breakfast was ok, again, no big deal. Felt the place was operated as "good enough to get by". Right next to beach.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Our room was disgustingly dirty. Rusty doors, dirty carpets and bedspread. The pillows were covered in drool marks. They only covered with one pillowcase so that part of the saliva covered pillow was exposed. Just gross, would never stay here again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good hotel, helpful staff, few maintenance issues"
The front desk was very helpful with check-in, and the room was clean, except for a spot by the bed which had some spilled soda or syrup in the carpet, which luckily, I found while wearing shoes. There was a burnt-out bulb in one of the fixtures and the fridge was inoperable. I had a "partial view" room with a king-size bed, and there was plenty of […] room to walk around. The view of the ocean was only available when on the balcony, not from the room as I had hoped. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect couple's getaway!"
We loved staying here! It was the perfect room for a short vacation. We did have an issue where housekeeping let themselves into our room while we were in it, but I think that was a one time. All in all, we loved it.Genuine Expedia guest review
"OK, but not worth peak price."
Staff was superb! The view of the ocean from the balcony was fabulous. The area was safe and well lit. We went during off season and the parking was still very difficult. I can't even imagine what it would be like during busy season. I would have been livid to pay the peak season price for this room. Breakfast selection was minimal. The pull out sofa […] bed was horrid. The two beds were good. There were no linens for the sofa bed. The touch up paint was not the same color as the original paint so that was tacky. The vanity in the bathroom, including the sink, needs replaced - its just worn out. In the hallways, the outsides of the doors need painted. The elevator needs serious attention. The "drive" under the hotel was not well cared for. The views and the location to the beach made the other issues bearable. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"close to Charleston and beach"
The hotel staff were very friendly. Our only complaint is that the room smelled musty and closed up. Breakfast was more than expected for continenal. Off season so no parking fees. Would like more info about open resturant on holidays. :)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fall weekend in Charleston"
Hotel was located in a nice surrounding area with excellent access to the beach. The room was rather standard fare with average comfort beds. Bathroom needed some painting/upgrade. Overall it was a nice place to stay with easy access to the Charleston and other tourist areas.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"right on the beach"
Great room for the price. Bed was comfortable, room was clean. My only complaint if you can call it that is that though there were five light fixtures in the room the room was extreamly dark. I would shell out the additional money to stay on the beach side next visit.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very nice stay"
I read a lot of mixed reviews on the Palms when we decided to stay, and I'm glad we made that choice. Very convenient to pretty much everything. Only a short drive from just about anywhere. Clean and comfortable. Great stay for a reasonable price. Totally recommend a stay here.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean and Adequate"
The Palms Hotel is a nice enough hotel and it served our purpose for two nights after staying in Charleston. The hotel is a little worn down and out of date but it was clean and the staff was nice. I've had better breakfasts that were included in the room price but again it was O.K. We had good access to the ocean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is a small old hotel. We had a partial view room...partial view of a bar next door. The room was so dark, even with the window. I was disappointed that it was not a larger room. The pictures I saw gave the impression that the room was larger. The room was clean but everything in the room seemed so old. The beach was a disappointment too. Maybe […] it was the time of year but it was dirty and had lots of nasty looking things washed up on the beach. We did not go out to the beach after the first morning we took a walk. The parking is on street and limited. We were there in the off season and parking spots were scarce. During the season you have to pay to park there IF you can find a spot. I wish we had stayed in town. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Right on the beach!"
A little high for the price, but a basic nice hotel. The room had a musky odor but it was clean and kept well. Very close to the beach and most activities on the island. Staff was ok, not very friendly but did their job and answered our questions. The cleaning ladies were very nice and friendly though. Kudos to them. Wished the parking wasn't across […] the street in a gravel lot, was kinda worried about it being broke into, but all was well and we had a great time. Water pressure and the shower was great, a little small overall and our balcony looked out into the bar & grill next door, but there was little noise after 10pm and we slept very well. Overall ok and what I expected. The breakfast was 50/50. Some items just didn't taste right, not the staff's fault, most likley the vendor. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I thought I'd take a chance on a "locally" owned hotel since it was on the beach, and there are no "chain" places on the Isle. I was hesitant because the price was more than we really wanted to spend, but decided to take a chance so that we could walk on the beach in the morning. I had read that the hotel entry and layout was a bit unusual on other […] reviews, so I tried to keep my mind open as I walked up the dingy stairwell to the office to check in. When we opened the door to our room, we found a dark, stained carpet, dim lighting #probably good#, a rickety table, tiny bathroom, rusted balcony, and, yes, hairs on the sheets when we pulled back the covers. We would've definitely left and found somewhere else if we weren't going to only be there 1 night. I got no sleep that night, and it wasn't just because I kept feeling like bugs were crawling on me #though that was part of it#, and not even because of the very loud mini refrigerator... I eventually figured out that our "partial view" balcony actually overlooked the patio of the neighboring bar, which became livelier with partiers as the night progressed #way past midnight, into the wee morning hours#. I could literally hear their conversations and laughing. Oh, and then there's the outdoor "pool", located on the 2nd floor #the level above the office#. No one was using it when we checked it out. I don't blame them. Continental bkfst was barely that. So, my advice is: keep looking - don't choose this place! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Our September vist to The Palms"
The hotel seemed very old and run down. Room smelled musty. Our "partial ocean view" room included a balcony on the side of the building and there were tall palm trees growing along side of the building right in the middle of the view. We could "reach out" and hug the trees - also had to lean over the railing to see any part of the ocean. Air conditioning […] units for the inside rooms vented into the enclosed hallway (Our visit was mid-September - can't imagine the heat during the hottest part of summer. ) Staff was very helpful. Continental breakfast was adequate. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Close to the water but a drive to everything else"
Extra fee to park in public parking but it's the same parking that you would use if you stayed in town and drive to the location. The pictures on the hotel site look great but does not reflect the reality of the place. I would not recommend this hotel because it is very pricy to be close to the water and more options for dining are over the bridge. […] Which we traveled to each day at least once. Better rates are on isle of palms area and like I said you will still be parking in the place it's worth the extra haul of kids beach toys chairs etc since you will be saving money. Service was nice staff was friendly pool was clean I'm just not sure it's worth the money and would not stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

I'm sure it was a very nice hotel in it's day. It's an older place, pool wasn't great but if you need a hotel in this area it works. Needs an update in rooms and the breakfast was pretty basic. While the hotel was in a very good location I was a bit disappointed with my room. The bathroom was TINY and needed a bit of updating and the balcony had cheap, plastic furniture. "Good for what it is, a beach hotel on a nice beach"
I was there for a weekend getaway trip and to visit friends in Charleston. The hotel is conveniently located right on the beach, so if that's your primary goal, you won't be disappointed. You'll have to pay separately for an umbrella and lounge chairs though. The hotel is not in the best shape (it has that sandy, semi-run down feel that a lot of beach […] hotels get after a while), but the room was pretty clean and the hotel staff were great. "Oh What A Dump!"
Location of the hotel was excellent. The hotel was very old and showed it's age.Dragging our belongings to the room was not great.......no bellboy service.. We made our reservation about two months in advance. We were 3 women. Carol asked if the room would accomodate 3 people. The answer was yes. There were 2 FULL size beds. Three into two full does […] not work.... so they brought in a rollaway and charged us $10.00. The room was an interior room.........meaning that there was a window opening into an INTERIOR unventilated area. It was like being in a pit or a cave. The light over the sink didn't go on. Someone came to fix it and we were told that it would take 15 minutes for it to warm up and light up. We went to put things into"the safe" but noticed that it was not bolted down and could be picked up and be removed.Money was not a problem when we booked and we expected to get a decent room for three. It was like, take this room it's the only one left. We left the next day and went to Wild Dunes for the next 3 days, where we had a fabulous time. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
