"Parking was awful, staff member was rude"
Everything was great, except parking. I arrived late at night and was told to park in a parking lot two blocks away, which turned out to be an abandoned lot, then walk back to the hotel. As a woman traveling alone checking in at almost midnight, this was completely unacceptable, especially considering how poorly lit the streets were and all the drunks wandering the street from the nearby bar. I did not feel safe at all, and ended up driving around for 30 minutes until I found a place to pay to park closer to the hotel. The staff was also rather rude when I checked in, telling me that I didn't have a reservation then trying to argue with me about what website I used to book my reservation online. I felt like my check-in was an inconvenience to her. But the ocean was fantastic and the price wasn't bad. I doubt I would stay again because of the parking situation. I just didn't feel safe.

"Decent hotel / great location"
The hotel was located in the heart of Isle of Palms and the price was reasonable. The place was clean, but could clearly use some updating. The elevator was extremely slow and sounded like it was in dire need of maintenance or repair. Also, noises in the hallway such as doors shutting and people talking are very loud in the rooms and easily woke us in the morning.

"Great Beach Front Location - comfortable but worn"
Hotel is right on the beach. Rooms were comfortable. Rooms looked worn. Stains on carpet, needed to slam doors to get them to close. Our rooms were quiet and comfortable. Staff was very attentive. Breakfast was okay.

"Close to the beach. Like go back to 1970."
Main thing it is much chipper than surrounding hotels. Door to the room does not close without a kick. Shower leaking. Breakfast is OK. Parking across the street. With a bags is not convenient way to travel. Staff segregate people by there names and origin.

"Would not stay there for full season price."
We had a great time. There was a bit of disappointment as one of my friends smokes, and that's why we paid so much for an ocean front room with a balcony. BUT, not hotels fault, it's the Island Ordinance. Bathroom fan didn't work, and foggy mirror with 3 chicks, not good. Also the breakfast lacked appeal, with it's instant pancakes, fake juice and carbs carbs carbs stuff. The coffee was excellent though.

Stayed during off season. The staff was friendly and location was nice as ocean is very close. Would not stay again though as walls are paper thin and you can hear doors open and close and hear conversation from the next rooms.

"Not a bad hotel, but I won't stay there again"
I rarely leave reviews for anything, but I feel compelled to based on my experience here. The neighborhood seems very nice; everything you'd need is in close walking distance. Staff was pretty nice and tried to be helpful. I enjoyed my stay very much my first night that I decided to book a second night. The staff was very clear about this and they told me they wouldn't put a pending charge on my card for the second night (I was also very clear with them that I don't have enough money in my account to afford a pending charge), but on my way out I checked my bank account and saw there was in fact a pending charge, which resulted in six overdraft fees of $36 each. I spent hours on the phone with the bank and was finally able to get them removed, then I later called the hotel and they apologized but wouldn't accommodate at all. Based on the poor customer service I experienced, I'll never stay here again. If you do stay here, make sure you have funds in your account because they'll put a pending charge of $150 per night.

Great location on beach Finding parking is up to you.... Fan extractor in bathroom made a horrendous noise- when I told the front desk the comment was "but did it work OK?" You get what you pay for here and it was relatively inexpensive

With the hotel located on the ocean and walking distance from so many great restaurant, it makes it hard not to enjoy yourself. This time of year, parking is free everywhere on the Isle of Palms. Now and during the busy summer months, we have a parking lot dedicated for our guest. In the summer, there is a charge for parking in that lot and everywhere else. In the winter, we give our guest the option to park wherever is most convenient to them. It is never out intention to make this a burden. I apologize if this was not explained in the detail to you at check-in. I am truly sorry for the loud noise the fan in the bathroom made. I also apologize for the lack of urgency that was had in getting this issue resolved. "Location and staff was worth it. Room was not."
Location was perfect. Close to everything. On the beach. View was amazing. Loved that part. Unfortunately, the room was not very clean. There were things on the floor that should have been picked up or vacuumed up, had it been cleaned properly. Stains on the sheets and one of the towels. I know no one is perfect, but I was a bit disappointed considering there's not much competition for places to stay at Isle of Palms. Other than that, the front desk staff was AMAZING! Can't remember his name, but the same guy checked me in and out. He was very nice, cheerful, and helpful. Breakfast was good and the lobby was very nice.

"Huge disappointment"

"Oh well. We're right on the beach..."
This hotel is all about location. The furnishings are dated and our room needed a fresh coat of paint. We booked a king bed but were put in a double bed room. We received maid service one morning out of our three night stay. Staff was friendly and explained that there were renovations going on in the underneath drop off area. The room rate was reasonable for being right on the beach, which is why we stayed there. Beds were comfortable and breakfast is continental. If you aren't that particular, give it a try.

Wonderful location but do not stay unless you get a room with an outside balcony. We did not book one and we were very sorry. No cell reception in room and unable to rent a movie on the television. They held $150 on credit card for "incidentals" which is common practice, but we couldn't have charged anything if we wanted to! Cute village location and a couple of fun restaurants nearby.

"Worst customer service I have ever received."
What compliants do I not have? Carol, the front desk agent, was rude to the customer ahead of us at check in. (Apparently its an absolutely rediculous question to ask if the hotel has a hot-tub.) The elevator was broken at check in. The room looked like what you would find at Motel 6 at any highway exit. The comforter was practically non-existent. The shutters over the window barely blocked the light from the hallway. Every single noise in the hotel could be heard through the paper thin walls. Everytime someone shut a door, I woke up. The slamming of doors was so bad that we also had to wake up to people screaming down the hallways to "stop slamming the f-in doors!" Since the elevator was out, people were walking up the stair-well which most certainly could be heard loud and clear from our room. We could not sleep at all. When you stay at a hotel on the beach you would expect to have a nice relaxing "get away" but instead we choose to get on home and didnt even make it through the night. At check-out we requested to speak with the manager but Carol refused to call him. What kind of manager is unavailable when its staff receives complaints??? Whatever you do, do not stay at the Palms Oceanfront Hotel!!! They are rediculously over-priced compared to the services you receive!

Our elevator was down for some time. We did our best to reach out to all guests to inform them of the situation. If you book your reservation through a third party, we do not have access to any of your personal contact information. The elevator being out of order was a great burden on our guests and staff and I apologize for this. Due to the constant and heavy ocean breeze, the doors are pushed close by the wind. We are currently looking into a solution for this. A solution that will make the doors close with no noise but also quickly and securely to ensure the safety and security of our guests. "sleepers beware"
This could be a nice hotel in a great location with a few upgrades. The room doors slam so loudly you cant get any sleep. My tub backed up with 4 inches of water every time it was used. Talked to the front but no one ever came to the room, the cleaning staff must be used to this kind of thing they never attempted to clean the tub. Left early not happy.

Brian, I want to sincerely apologize for your understandable stay with us. The doors tend to shut loudly due to the ocean breeze sweeping through the hallway and forcing them closed. We are working on finding a resolution to this. One that will decrease noise without decreasing guest security. There is no reason we should have not responded to your concerns about the tub backing up. Being a beach front property, this can occur due to sand going down the drain. This does not excuse us from not addressing your worries with haste. I am very sorry for this poor lack of service. Overall, the description of this hotel is exactly what you will get. It has the usual hotel accommodations that any hotel will give you. Some things I didn't like (and you probably won't either): The elevator made very worrisome grunts and moans as you moved in it, the location of the main office, parking, the condition of the hotel.

"Not planning to stay here again."
This hotel is in need of significant repairs. It shows serious wear and tear and lack of upkeep, and for the price of the rooms, it seems like basic maintenance should be a no-brainer. I also question the cleanliness of the rooms. The toilet was not clean in our room when we checked in and the furniture had stains. We were tired and didn't want to leave, so we stayed and made the best of it. The ease of getting to the beach was nice, but I would look elsewhere if I'm in the area again.

"Disappointed"
Recently stayed at The Palms and was disappointed right from the start. First the description of the room boasted of ocean side views but what we got for over $200 was an interior cell block type room, which was not ready at check-in time. In order to not have our entire trip ruined by this room we waited on we had to upgrade another $80 to get a room with a view and waited over an hour for it as well. Once in the room, the room was nice enough but noticed that the bathroom was not as cleaned as I had hoped it be. Overall the staff was friendly but no one should have to wait that long just to check in. Honestly if I could have canceled my reservation and gone somewhere else I would have. As far as the beach and the location, nothing to complain about there. Simply gorgeous.

"Old and worn. Rude staff."
The staff was rude and didn't care. Rooms were not made up until after 5:30. Overall feel of the hotel was not clean. We had to upgrade because the room had a window that looked out on a passageway inside. It cost us $80 a night extra.

They did a poor job of making you feel welcome and warm and that is unacceptable. I will address this with all of my Front Desk staff immediately. According to your comments, it appears you upgraded to an Oceanfront room. I apologize that the third party you booked through was not transparent with all the amenities of one of our interior rooms. As you wrote, our interior rooms only have one window that look out on the hallway. I am sorry this was not made more clear to you. Also, having your room not made up until after 5:30 is unacceptable. Our Housekeeping staff does stay as long as it takes to get the job done but they should have been much more timely than they were. "Isle of Palms Resort One-night stay"
Accommodations were average; rooms were adequate and clean. Common areas (elevators and interior areas had a trash and were not kept clean. The male front desk clerk provided excellent customer service and was able to help with an early check in. The female was very unfriendly and at times rude, especially during the breakfast serving time. The continental breakfast was average or better. Location was excellent, within walking distance of beach and shops/restaurants.

"Very disappointing"
Paid almost 300 dollars a night for a room i thought was ocean front and wasn't, the staff is very unprofessional and tidiness is seriously lacking. So overpriced and false advertised! Dont waste your money here

During a rain storm, we did recently discover a leak in on of the rooms. That room was not used until the leak was fixed. It was out of order for several days. I apologize that you were the ones that had to discover this issue. I know how that looks on us and our facility. I also want to apologize for the attitude of our Front Desk staff. It is unacceptable that they were impolite to you and I will discuss and retrain them on how to handle out guests. We are aware of the concerns relating to the elevator. Due to these concerns, this winter we will be installing a brand new elevator. Unfortunately, we will be without an elevator for a short period of time but we know it will be well worth it. "Dirty...Dirty...Dirty"
The ONLY thing good about this hotel is its proximity to the beach. The standard rooms do not have a patio/balcony/door or window that looks outside! There is 1 window that looks into the breezeway that you won't want to open unless you want other guests looking right in your room. As a result, the room is dark, dank and musty smelling. The rooms are run down and DIRTY! The shower curtain was filthy, there was ground in filth inside the tub, HAIRS all over the bathroom, toilet was moldy, towels were dirty. Sink was clogged, I cringe think what was clogging it. The worst part is our visit was not even during peak season (Sept 26th-28th) and the rates were insane for the nasty product. $250/night?! Do your self a favor and book a condo or beach house rental instead. I did not see one hotel on Ocean Blvd that could potentially be any better that "The Palms Oceanfront Hotel".....sounds nice, hungh? Gross, gross, gross!

"Close to the Beach older facility"
Overall good experience ! Close to some great food ! Beach access close! Cleaning staff less than efficient ! Room was cleaned and towels replaced after 3 rd day and had to request ! Front desk staff was great though would stay again they just need to get the cleaning staff more efficient !

"worst hotel experience of my life"
The first thing, we did not receive the king size bed we booked. when we got to the room there was a stain on the sheet which was on top of the covers, why sheets were on top I'm not sure. when we requested a different room we were told that we booked through a third party, Expedia. I was treated like they could do nothing. I don't care if I booked through Expedia or your ex wife I paid over two hundred a night for the room. I found coffee grounds in the coffee maker from the last guest and the microwave had not been cleaned for some time. the TV had a long scratch that showed a white line on every show and there was no list for the channels. and to top off the experience the tub didn't drain so I stood in nasty water while I showered. The hotel had nasty bags of maybe sand stored in the stairwell which smelled of mold, bags of dirty linens scattered about the hall way and the next day we didn't get maid service until after five of which she emptied the trash and gave us towels no new coffee nor did they make the bed. they charged us 16 dollars for parking which was a block away.

We would have loved to move you into a different room, one that would have met your needs. Our front desk staff was correct in informing you that all changes in reservations booked with a third party must go through the third party first. It is one of the policies that third party reservation sites have set in place and we are forced to follow. I apologize that our staff did not handle your concerns with more care and that the third party site was not transparent during your booking process. Your other concerns about the room are our shortcomings. The housekeeping staff should have done a more thorough job of inspecting the room before your arrival. "Only Because of the Location"
Upon arriving, I was a bit confused as to where to check in. You have to actually go to the 2nd floor of the hotel and then inside of the "breakfast area" where I then waited for about 20 mins for someone to finally show up. Be prepared to either wait your turn with I think only 3 luggage carts that was in very bad shape. The hallways to the room were unbearably hot and the wifi was a waste. I did love the balcony view we had which looked down onto the outside dining area of the next restaurant and the beach. During the day the beach was PACKED!!! Didn't care because we enjoyed it every night with maybe 5-7 other random guest. BTW, this by far was their biggest SCORE the closeness to the beach right behind the hotel. There is little to no diversity in terms of restaurants so be prepared to go to the Mt. Pleasant for some decent variety. Came, saw, minimally enjoyed! Dont think I need to try it again.

"What really matters?"
I was concerned abt this property after reading the reviews.I decided to take a chance since my trip was last minute & properties directly on the beach in area seem to be limited. Yes, it would be nice if the outside was properly maintained but I had to remember this was not a Ritz on the beach and I was not sleeping outside! With that being said, here is some general info. There is no help with unloading or loading your car. Short term check in/check out parking is located under the building which is good if raining when you arrive. Carts are available for your use then you move the car to the lot. Check in was no problem, a charge for parking across a small street to gravel lot.Total for 3 days was about $22.00. Now, for the exterior of the property...this is the total fault of property management. Why can't they daily sweep or blow off the walkways of all the sand? Why can't they dump the mat in the elevator of the all sand at the end of each day? Why can't the sidewalks and open stairwells be pressured cleaned every now and then? Why can't the area where the picnic tables/children's are located at least be raked? These are simple, easy maintenance tasks that would add a lot to the overall appearance. Sorta made me crazy that so little would add so much to this property. This property could be a real jewel!

Many of the concerns you expressed are being addressed as we speak. We are going through some construction and many other changes. Some of the exterior maintenance you wrote about is quite difficult to maintain during these events but a necessity nonetheless. Pressuring washing of the entire property is a task that will be taken care of this winter but is difficult to accomplish during our busy season when occupancy is high every night.
