Wall Street comes to life before dawn as traders rush to Lower Manhattan to make and break deals. But finance is just one aspect of Lower Manhattan, where colonial churches stand next to skyscrapers. Within the district, rebuilding continues at Ground Zero. At Battery Park, ferries depart for Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, America’s beacon of freedom.

We are used to getting our room at abt 2-4pm. Here we were given our room already in the morning 10 am even though we had not requested early check-in. The complimentary breakfast was excellent. The "manager's cocktails" in the evening was an unexpected nice surprise. Concierge very helpful in making a dinner reservation.

Reviewed by Kim of Arlington on Nov 11, 2009
This hotel was perfect for a girls weekend in NYC. The room was in great condition and very clean. Also, the beds were very comfortable. The rooms had microwaves, a large bathroom, a king bed, pull out queen couch with memory foam bed (yes on the pull out couch - so its surprisingly comfortable). The rooms were separated by a door so it's great if you are traveling with a group. It was very affordable for NYC and was by far the largest hotel room I have ever stayed in in NYC (it's bigger than most apartments!). Also, the room came with a great breakfast and happy hour every night (as all embassy suites do). The only downside is this hotel is pretty far down in the financial district (literally 2 blocks from ground zero) so we spent a lot of time in cabs. Although there was a cab line outside the hotel and never had any trouble getting one away from hotel, getting back proved to be a little more challenging (cabs in NYC are much harder to track down than cabs in DC).

It is a bit frayed at the edges, but the Embassy Suites downtown is still great value. For the price of a 1br elsewhere, you get a suite, with breakfast... The only big downside is parking. Nothing but $80/night valet at the hotel, but you can get a $35/night special by prebooking with one of the Central Parking lots on Murray St or Chambers St

The hotel is beautiful, the rooms were spotlessly clean, the concierge service was friendly and efficient, the business center was convenient, and the breakfast included with the lodgings is the best value I've ever found in a U.S. hotel. There is also a "Whole Foods" nearby if you wish to pick up a few snacks or take a little something back to eat in your room. Beware the fees, however -- from the instant mini-bar charges if an item is so much as picked up (and kids pick up everything), to keeping bags with the bell hop for a few hours after check-out. The hotel even tried to charge us for delivering a gift basket sent to our room by a friend, but did remove the charge when asked about it.

The hotel was decent in many ways, though outstanding in none. Room condition was new and there was a high standard of cleanliness. Service was acceptable if not necessarily warm or impressive. Free breakfast was quite good except for the coffee. The location was not very convenient as the closest subway stations are nearly 10 minutes away on foot (5 minutes if you walk very fast). However, given that it is difficult to find a $350/night hotel in New York that is not disappointing, this hotel represents a very good relative value.

Fine hotel. A great breakfast and afternoon reception (drinks) added to value. On the other hand, it was over-priced as are all NYC hotels. BEWARE: It took me more than four hours to reach from Newark airport by shuttle primarily because location led to entire shuttle being emptied before taking me there. Staff is accommodating and knowledgeable.

We asked for another room, the receptionist was able to give us a non-smoking room which was bigger better, and with no extra charge. I would love to stay there again, and I probably will next time I visit NY. Good experience. TAKE IT!

Within 15 minutes of checking in, we had moved to two rooms (no upgrade!) because both had literally broken closet doors, phone socket hanging out the wall, and get this- one room had no toilet paper! That was awkward. We had to call the manager twice to get a day’s credit back, the concierge was very rude, and room service was lazy (we requested our linens changed and they didn’t bother to include the pillow cases). However on a positive note the breakfast buffet was awesome.

We had a huge, very comfortable room. However, valet is $60 and all the surrounding parking is similarly priced, even on the weekend, because its the financial district. Worse, however, is the construction EVERYWHERE. It is impossible to walk or drive near the hotel. Its not so bad that the area looks like a wreck, but the inability to go anywhere easily was pretty annoying.

Reviewed by S of Bedfordshire on Jul 29, 2009
Hotel scores principally on three counts- rooms are 'suite' style with a separate bedroom, and a double sofa-bed in the lounge-diner; the location is quiet with lovely views of Hoboken; and breakfast & a free drinks happy hour are included in the rates. The hotel has a very efficient check in. The check out can be done swiftly on a simple terminal, also used for confirming flights and printing boarding cards. There is a free business centre. Wireless from the room is charged on a daily basis. Rooms have a CD player and fax machine and 2 TVs. Standards are acceptable but not outstanding. I have stayed 3 times, twice recently, and on the first of the two recent visits there had been a failure to clean the toilet area properly. Generally the rooms are fine given the prices & size, but functional not luxurious. Breakfast is a bit of a scrum with long queues for cooked food and busy tables. Eat early, or have fruit and cereal or pancakes (no queuing!), or put it into a carton and take it to your room. There are a few restaurants and bars nearby. The slightly remote and quiet location of Battery Park is lovely, but is a distance from the hubub of NYC. Also since 9/11 it is a 5-10 min walk to the nearest metro stop [it is close to Ground Zero]. Despite the criticisms, it's still a hotel I'd use again, for the spacious rooms which are good for families, and the untypical NY location, and good value.
