Lace Market Hotel - Nottingham

The room was very comfortable and had wonderful Church views. The Staff were very helpful. Breakfasts were superb. We would definitely recommend this Hotel to our Friends and Family.

This is a classic hotel in the absolute heart of Nottingham. However, it is getting on in years and could use new carpet in spots. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel room itself was ok. There was no temperature control in the room and the window didn't open more than a few inches. The bathroom was mostly clean, however there was some mold in the shower area. Make sure to bring your own toiletries, the selection is limited. I was most disappointed in the misrepresentation of parking. The description says […] that parking is available, which is why we chose this hotel instead of another one. However, the parking is not provided by the hotel, the nearest car park is about half a block away and was not included in the room rate. The lot was trashed and near several bars which left us nervous about our vehicle during the entire stay. You can also choose to have valet parking for a little more than the cost of the car park, however the hotel staff told us that we were limited in how many times we could have our vehicle brought to us during the day. The breakfast was mediocre at best. The fruit was under ripe, the pancakes were dense and bland, and the buffet selection was limited. My spouse enjoyed the English Breakfast off the hot menu. Great location. Expect to walk 300 yards from the car park. It's a very old building so expect some things not to work. We had drains that were blocked, but the staff helped us quickly and were very courteous Rooms were small, but just enough for a comfortable stay. The welcome & customer service throughout our stay was excellent. We would also highly recommend the valet parking offered by the hotel - no hassle, no grief, cheaper than the closest NCP for 24 hours & a clean car! The only unfortunate event was a loud awakening by a fire alarm at 6:00am, we spent half an hour outside in the early morning sunshine, […] all guests took it with good humour including a bride still wearing her tiara, a famous comedian and some very hunky firemen! We had a "king bedded" room which had a view of a yard out the back! We weren't too bothered as this is a city centre hotel and we felt it could be noisy if we had a room with a view due to the late night revellers on a saturday evening. The hotel overall was a little tired - decorations were looking old and shabby though the bed was very comfortable […] and nice linen. The situation was excellent, not far from shops, close to restaurants and 5 minutes walk from the Arena. Unfortunately we were on the third floor and the lift was out of order. We therefore had to carry our luggage both up and down three flights of stairs that got progressively narrower the higher we went. My room (203) was a little quirky with its entrance, where one door entered the bedroom, and one door entered the bathroom. The downside was that this room/floor seemed only accessible by an impossibly slow lift, no option of using stairs? Clean and comfortable bed. Basic bathroom amenities. Adequate wardrobe space. Set in a quiet street this is a lovely hotel - we stayed one night before going to see the new War of the Worlds production at the Arena, which was just a few streets away. There is a quaint pub attached to the hotel which we used before we left for the concert, it had a lovely atmosphere and the staff were very friendly,. Our room (a king standard) was very comfortable and had all the usual amenities associated with it - lots of fluffy towels and robes in the bathroom, a small mini bar (not over the top prices!) which we used prior to leaving for our night out! When we returned later we didn't use the 'Saint' bar but it looked busy for a Tuesday night and the cocktail list seemed endless and inviting!! Breakfast the next morning was lovely, there were several choices for your main course but we opted for the Full English, very yummy! There was plenty of cereals, etc and a small choice of continental cheeses and meats, etc., and lots of toast on request. We have stayed at the Lace Market Hotel before so it was not a surprise to the excellent location for shopping and proximity to a good selection of bars and restaurants. From the outside and hotel reception, it seems welcoming and modern living up to its boutique reputation but beyond that it is tired and in needs of refurbishment. Our room was a standard […] double with a king bed (small king bed!), the bathroom was tired with mould round the tiles, no toilet roll holder, this was left on the floor. You had to put the blind down to use the bathroom otherwise you were on display for all of the outside to see. On drawing the curtains these were heavily stained. The main problem came with the bed, on drawing back the sheets, these were covered in hair. At this point in we prompty marched down to reception, we were told the hotel was almost full and the only room they could offer us was a lesser standard room to what we had which considering what we had, we declined. The receptionist did come and change the sheets but from that point we did not feel relaxed during our stay. Breakfast was pleasant although buffet choice not extensive. I would not stop at this hotel again unless I hear it has gone under an extensive renovation to bring it up to the standard that a 4 star pricey boutique hotel should have. Read more

I booked a nights stay for me & my boyfriend for a show at the arena. Was a perfect location! The room we stayed in was big & lovely. Only the view we had was a wall & we could see old matresses & things that should be in a skip as we looked down.. But we didn't go to look at a view it was just somewhere to crash at night. Only problem was when we got in the car there was a strong smell off body Oder which was Horriable, something that could need addressing as it was the last imprestion of our vist & didn't end our service journey very well. Small hotel rooms... tired bathroom with mould on grout and peeling sealant on bath. Nice location polite staff but leaves you feeling under whlemed given the price you pay for something that appears sleek fans fancy. Would not recommend . . . The Lace Market hotel is very classy, service is excellent - the staff are really friendly and helpful. The city centre is just a short walk away, there are cool bars just up the road, and the hotel has a great cocktails bar yet the location is quiet, away from any busy roads, you'll get a good night's sleep here. All I wanted was a decent night's sleep after a long and tiring day to be followed by an early start. My room was so hot I couldn't sleep and ended up with a splitting headache in the morning through dehydration. The bottle of water in the mini bar was over-priced. It was on checking the mini-bar that I found the cause of the heat. The fridge was positioned […] in a cabinet with no air space above its top. The drawer and papers in it that sat above the fridge were too hot to touch. I arrived at 8 for breakfast, a little disappointed by the buffet. I helped myself to what was there then, on leaving, discovered a waiter adding fresh fruit salad, cheese and meats to the table! I felt badly done by and did not have time to take these matters up with the staff as I was working to a tight schedule and had to leave by taxi. A disappointing experience. Read more

I had not stayed at Lace Market for a few years. It pleases me to be able to say that customer service levels are exemplary. All staff are well trained and informed and always have a smile on their faces. Having been fortunate enough to stay for the Test Match Cricket, I used the valet car parking service at the hotel; fantastic value and service don't […] even think about parking elsewhere ! If you stay in one of the single rooms as I did they are a bit on the small side ( this is mentioned in the blurb) but well appointed . I would suggest pay that bit extra for a larger room. The room was clean albeit a little scruffy round the edges. For example the bathroom vanity top was damaged and the tile grouting was grubby. The glass bowl basin was fine but the tap was located too low so it was impossible to fill the kettle or a glass and this had to be done from the bath.The room window had blackout curtains but the bathroom did […] not and the bathroom door was glazed so the room was not blacked out.There was no robe, complimentary water or TV remote in the room and I had to ask for these. Me and my partner stayed there for an event at the Capital FM Arena. Its close to arena and also the centre of town where there are lots of nice bars and restaurants. The service was fantastic and all staff were very helpful. Now for the downfalls... we first stayed there 2 years ago and at this time we commented that the hotel could do with a revamp. […] Now 2 years on, the hotel is in desperate need of a make over. The first time we stayed we had a standard room which was very small and dark however was located in the heart of the hotel overlooking a conservatory roof which was nice and quiet. The second time around, we paid a little more for a king room which was of a larger size and had a view over the church which was lovely. However we stayed on a saturday night and as our hotel was on the corner of the street, there was a lot of noise coming from people walking along the road and using the walkway at the side of the church. The room we had was also right next to the lift so we had noise coming from all angles throughout the night. All in all, if its just the location your looking for, this is the hotel to be at. I will be considering whether we go back this year due to the problems experienced this time however should the hotel be updated, and the price is right, I would still consider staying at this hotel but avoid Room 22! :) Read more

This Hotel is Ok, it is a central location and serves a good breakfast but the room was cold. There was also lots of noise throughout the night from out side of the hotel. i.e students coming back fro a late night (4am).
