"Good if you're on a budget."
We chose a cheaper hotel for our weekend in TO, because we wanted to spend out money on dining, drinking, and shopping (TO has some excellent restaurants and bars, but restaurants prices and taxes are very high!) The Hojo was cheap (rooms are tiny; no elevator; hotel is next to the streetcar tracks, so it's loud throughout the night), and the rooms, […] had which all of the amenities needed for a hotel stay, were surprisingly clean. The staff is not knowledgeable, which is difficult is you're from the U.S. and don't want to use your smartphone for everything. Their answer to everything was "I don't know." They were know help in getting us a cab, and were unable to give us directions to famous tourist attractions. (We ultimately got directions from other guests in the lobby). We weren't warned of the Labour Day Parade (which was amazing, but caught us by surprise when we tried to drive down Queen Street). With ear plugs and some preparation, it's a good budget hotel. Remember to ask for your cash security deposit back at the end of your stay; they won't volunteer it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"close to where we needed to be"
My family and I had to fly into Toronto on very short notice and under difficult circumstances. The location was as close as we could find to where we needed to be. The hotel manager and night clerk were extremely sympathetic to our situation, and accommodated us in many ways. For example, they allowed us to park very close to the front door, and they […] allowed us an open departure date. We were so grateful for all the help they so kindly extended to us all - thank you very much. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Good location, very close to lake shore. The room is newly renovated. Very clean and comfort. Breakfast is also good. Only complain is the parking. It is far away from hotel and charging for $12.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Totally a no no hotel to stay ."
I was stunned with this no parking space hotel. Room is so tight of space, dirty breakfast room with stale coffee creamers. U. Fresh and dry oranges. Never to comeback.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Bad Parking experience"
There is no clear instructions of the process to park the car. (Two blocks away from the hotel). It was needed to have a key to open the electric dorr of a residential complex (building) which is not part of the hotel. The charge is too high for the parking service. Only one block away from the hotel was a paring lot that charges helf of the cost to […] leave the car on the suggested one from the Hotel. Very dissapointed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"OK if you just need a place to sleep."
The room was disappointingly small. The location was good but there was no parking on site. There was an additional charge for parking which was two blocks away. The continental breakfast was good. OK place if you are just needing a place to sleep.Genuine Expedia guest review
When i came to the Hotel, ther were Police cars everywhere i couldn't find a parking, i came inside and i asked the staff where should i park they told me nowhere the cops are occupying the parking of the guests, and after i checked in went upstairs to my room, it was freezing cold look like the heat was off the temp was 30 degree fahrenheit, i called […] downstairs asking them how can i turn the heat up, they told me it's only done from downstairs, so i said please would u do that, they didn't apparently, it was cold all night. early morning woke with the alarm of the hotel and people yelling, came out to check the hallway, saw a naked man completely naked with blood on his face, i asked him why the alarm is on he said he doesn't know, i called downstairs they said the Police r on the way, they came arrested the guy, my sleep was gone i coudln't go back sleep, they were interogating the guy at the hallway for almost 2hrs naked. i wasn;t allowed to go thru the hallway i had to use the emergency exit. it was nasty scene, next day i complained about the heat me and other couple but no one did somethin about it. but luckily my last night of stayin ther was a nice gentleman behind the desk told me i could adjut the heat from my room, but other staff won't tell no one u can do that. it was a dissapointin experience, will never go back that place. the other thing it's in a bad neighbourhood, and the street cars r right there hard to sleep. it was a night mare Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Look for a better place"
Old tired hotel in need of a lot of upgrades. No lightbulbs in floor lamps, no rom control so I had to run A/C to offset radiators on full.Genuine Expedia guest review
At this motel available parking is several blocks away; there are no porters to help with luggage. The complimentary newspapers and bagels run out very early each morning. In back of the building is huge lot from which the city's noisy cable cars are stored and leave at all times, day or night. Its price and location are redeeming features.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cheap hotel, tough park, skimpy breakfast, hotroom"
Consider the price, you get what you pay for. The rooms were the smallest I haver ever experienced, the heat could not be adjusted and was extremely hot, there are three options for parking all the desk only tells you of the $12/day 2 blocks away one, there is also $2 per night, but the trouble with that is it ends at 6am, do you want to leave at 6am? […] Then there is Queen Street parking 1/4 block away from 9pm to 8am for free. Breakfast was toast, muffins, or make yourself waffles with juice and drinks and little else, for instance there was fruit basket empty, every day. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Worst hotel I've ever stayed at... Tiny room. Everything in the building was old and needed repair and/or updating. Even the iron didn't get the wrinkles out of my shirt... The parking was 2 or 3 blocks away, a few spots in the parking lot of an apartment building. I understand that you get what you pay for, but this hotel is not worth the rate.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"convenient location on streetcar route"
It was an appropriate hotel for the money. No frills but it is small and adequate.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Room to small"
The room I stayed in was extremely small. I had to walk sideways to get into bed! The hotel also does not have a elevator, so I had to walk up 3 flights of stairs. They have odd check-in-out hours 3 p.m. check-in and 11 a.m. check-out.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient, but cramped."
The desk clerks were very pleasant, but the furniture arrangement was very cramped. I was traveling with my mother, and she was not pleased to sleep in a bunkbed! This hotel has a wonderful location close to everything, the street car stops very close and can get you everywhere. The staff is helpful. The room is rather small but clean and has all you need. "Only for its location and price"
Overall, we got a great deal on a room at a time when there were no rooms available in that part of Toronto. In addition, the location is great, at Queen St and Roncy St, you have miles of walkable shopping, dining, etc. That said this hotel is total junk. Most of the staff are friendly except the manager who seems to rule his decaying smelly kingdom […] with an Iron Fist. The continental breakfast is barely there, the whole place smells of cigarettes and mildew, the single rooms are TINY and many things just do not work...like our Television for example. "You Get What You Pay For!"
This hotel is old and run-down. The neighbourhood is a bit seedy and the streetcars make a huge racket. Fortunately there was an airdonditioning unit that helped deaden the noise. This is a Great place for the price near trolley in Toronto. Takes 15 to 20 minutes by trolley to get to downtown convertion or financial centers. "Stay away if you can!"
Hi, I read all the bad reviews this hotel had and I thought to myself that they were probably exaggerated or written by guests who were too demanding. That wasn't the case. The hotel has no parking on front of anywhere close by, you have to park temporarily on the sidewalk while you check in. There is a parking 2 1/2 blocks away, they will charge you […] separate and the parking is at an apartment complex where you will find use needles in the outside lot and alley. You have to walk back to the hotel. Once there, the moldy smell of the lobby will help you forget what you just went through with the parking. There is no elevator and the rooms smell like cat urine. The biggest room was the size of a shoe box and the TV in the room was a tube half-green, half-blurry. There is no remote for the TVs but the rooms are so small that you can change the channels with your foot literally. The sound of the trolleys arriving every 10 minutes or so at night will not let you sleep. There is only one menu for breakfast and it is waffles. You cannot take the waffles out of there to your room neither. The bread was so old it was toasted by the lightbulb ahead. Please, stay away from this place at all costs!!! Consider sleeping in your car before staying here. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
only the parking was a problem, too costly and inconvenient.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Returning customer from Texas & I would still recommend this hotel to others. If you dont plan on staying in the room the majority of your stay this room provides exactly what you want. Clean room, clean bed to sleep in, clean linens to use, cable television for winding down & catch the weather. Plumbing worked great, no backed up or slow draining sinks […] or tubs, no clogged toilet (which I've gotten at higher priced hotels). It's not the roomiest but getting a 2-double bed room this time gave us a little more room than the 1-double bed room did. If you want a clean room to leave your stuff in & shower so you can spend your day sight seeing this is the place for you. Others on here have complained about the parking issue & about the neighborhood. We walked around the neighborhood during the night & never had an issue of felt threatened. Quite frankly I've lived in a neighborhood worse than that area & I think some people are just too sensitive. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

This hotel does not look good from outside and even worse inside. I would NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE staying here.. The rooms smells, there are trolleys passing throguh making noise so you cannot get sleep. They DONT even have a Parking garage and to park you have to go 5 -10 min walk. The smallest rooms I've ever seen. The manager insisted on double billing and charging for more than agreed with Hotels.com for the room, but I got it taken care of through my Visa credit card with Capitol One. The parking is 2 blocks away in an underground garage that has mostly broken down cars in it. There is parking one block away for half the price […] $6 for 24 hours. "Not bad, for the price."
I stayed at the HoJo for a week while waiting for my apartment to open up. It was convenient to the Queen streetcar, which made it relatively easy to get to work. I was a bit nervous after reading some of the reviews on here, but was content with my time there. The hotel was cheap, so I didn't expect anything exceptional. The room was clean, though […] the decorations were dated. It was small, but the bed was comfortable. The staff, for their part, were great. They were polite and accomodating. I'm not sure why people thought the neighborhood was frightening. There were plenty of nice restaurants down Queen Street and I never felt awkward walking around at night. "Stay away from this hotel!"
I am not picky about hotels, but this one was awful all-around. It had a decent rating on this website, so I thought it would be alright. It was not. First, it was located in a bad section of Toronto. The parking is off-site and costs a substantial amount per night, which I was not notified of until I arrived. Second, I have always been pleased with […] other Howard Johnson hotels, which is the main reason why I chose this one. The degree of comfort is usually very high at Howard Johnson hotels. Not this one. There was barely enough room to move. The desk chair just about butted up against the bed. This really should not even be called a room. It should be called a closet. Also, the room smelled bad the entire time. And the toilet was not clean. There was an old urine stain underneath the toilet seat. The pillows had stains on them and were damp. I also found a pubic hair inside the nightstand drawer. Finally, the breakfast was awful. I have stayed at Howard Johnson hotels before with a very nice selection of hot and cold foods. All this had was stale bread and bagels, cereal, and waffles. It had water and very terrible fruit juices. I really wish that I were making some of this up, but I am not. Sadly, it is all too true. This easily was the worst hotel experience of my life. As I wrote above, I am not picky about hotels. I am willing to sacrifice a degree of comfort if needed. But this was very uncomfortable and not worth the price. You are better off paying ten bucks more a night for a much nicer hotel than this trashy one. I do want to make one positive comment, however: overall, the people who worked there were nice. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I was so disgusted with the Howard Johnson Hotel. I have never stayed in such a dirty and small room. There was no room to even stand and change let alone sleep. The bathroom had mold in the shower and the sink was cracked. The bathroom was so small that the door wouldn't even open the whole way without hitting the sink. The airconditioning unit didn't […] work and there was mold growing around it. What is the point of having a dresser and desk when the end of the bed touches it and you can't even stand between them? This was the worst Hotel I have ever stayed in and would never recommend it to anyone. It was so bad I was crying and I couldn't wait to go home. Do Not Stay Here. "Howard Johnson Lakeview"
I was worried when I read the reviews but went ahead and booked it anyways because it was what I wanted to spend. I was pleasantly surprised. Check in took a while because the woman checking in when I got there kept asking a ton of questions. The front desk clerk was nice & helpful. The room was quite smaller than I've ever experienced before but it […] was clean. There is a McDonalds on the corner & a convenience store across the street that takes US currency. No fridge or microwave in the rooms but there are one of each in the lobby. The breakfast is decent with cereal, bagels, toast, fruit, waffles, coffee, milk, & various juices. Most of the staff was nice. No elevator but each level is locked & you have to use your key card to get in. Neighborhood was not the greatest but I've been in worse. The staff is a little stingy with towels and washrags. When housekeeping cleaned the room they didn't always leave the correct amount of towels. HOWEVER, one day I left my iPod touch in the room when my boyfriend & I went out for the day. When we got back, the room had been cleaned & my iPod was where I left it. AWESOME! Down Queen St. there is a small coffee shop called Skyline Cafe that serves an excellent 3 egg breakfast, with taters, pea-meal bacon, & toast for $6.75. It's a bit of a walk but it's worth it. Lake Ontario is a short walk across a bridge from the hotel. Very nice & romantic walk along a well lit boardwalk. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
